Einstein's equations with two commuting Killing vectors and the associated Lax pair are considered. The equations for the connection $A(ς, η, γ)=Ψ_{,γ}Ψ^{-1}$, where $γ$ the variable spectral parameter are considered. A transition matrix ${\cal T}= A(ς, η, γ)A^{-1}(ξ, η, γ)$ for $A$ is defined relating $A$ at ingoing and outgoing light cones. It is shown that it satisfies equations familiar from integrable pde's theory. A transition matrix on $ς={\mbox constant}$ is defined in an analogous manner.
These transition matrices allow us to obtain a hierarchy of integrals of motion with respect to time, purely in terms of the trace of a function of the connections $g_{,ς}g^{-1}$ and $g_{,η}g^{-1}$. Furthermore a hierarchy of integrals of motion in terms of the curvature variable $B=A_{,γ}A^{-1}$, involving the commutator $[A(1), A(-1)]$, is obtained.
We interpret the inhomogeneous wave equation that governs $σ=ln N$, $N$ the lapse, as a Klein-Gordon equation, a dispersion relation relating energy and momentum density, based on the first connection observable and hence this first observable corresponds to mass. The corresponding quantum operators are $\frac{\partial}{\partial t}$, $\frac{\partial}{\partial z}$ and this means that the full Poincare group is at our disposal.
In this paper we derive the most general first-order symmetry operator commuting with the Dirac operator in all dimensions and signatures. Such an operator splits into Clifford even and Clifford odd parts which are given in terms of odd Killing-Yano and even closed conformal Killing-Yano inhomogeneous forms respectively. We study commutators of these symmetry operators and give necessary and sufficient conditions under which they remain of the first-order. In this specific setting we can introduce a Killing-Yano bracket, a bilinear operation acting on odd Killing-Yano and even closed conformal…
Four-dimensional Riemannian spacetimes with two commuting spacelike Killing vectors are studied in Einstein's theory of gravity, and found that no outer apparent horizons exist, provided that the dominant energy condition holds.
Given an d-dimensional manifold with two commuting Killing vectors, together with an d - 1 dimensional submanifold in which one of the Killing vectors lies, then the lapse and shift of the second Killing vector, relative to this slice, remain constant along the orbits of the `surface' Killing vector. Alternatively, the six dot products that can be formed from the three vectors, the two Killing vectors and the normal to the submanifold, are all constants along the `surface' Killing vector.
A new first integral for the equations corresponding to twisting type-N vacuum gravitational fields with two non-commuting Killing vectors is introduced. A new reduction of the problem to a complex second-order ordinary differential equation is given. Alternatively, the mentioned first integral can be used in order to provide a first integral of the second-order complex equation introduced in a previous treatment of the problem.
We consider the Klein-Gordon equation in generalized higher-dimensional Kerr-NUT-(A)dS spacetime without imposing any restrictions on the functional parameters characterizing the metric. We establish commutativity of the second-order operators constructed from the Killing tensors found in arXiv:hep-th/0612029 and show that these operators, along with the first-order operators originating from the Killing vectors, form a complete set of commuting symmetry operators (i.e., integrals of motion) for the Klein-Gordon equation. Moreover, we demonstrate that the separated solutions of the Klein-Gordo…
Under the action of the Geroch group, the Minkowski metric can be transformed into any vacuum metric with two commuting Killing vectors. In principle, this reduces the problem of deriving vacuum metrics with two commuting Killing vectors to pure algebra. In this short note, we use these facts to give a purely algebraic derivation of the Einstein-Rosen metric, which describes a cylindrical gravitational wave. Our derivation has a straightforward extension to gravitational pulse waves.
The equation of motion for comohogeneity-one Nambu-Goto strings in flat space $\mathbb{R}^{n,1}$ has been investigated. We first classify possible forms of the Killing vector fields in $\mathbb{R}^{n,1}$ after appropriate action of the Poincaré group. Then, all possible forms of the Hamiltonian for the cohomogeneity-one Nambu-Goto strings are determined. It has been shown that the system always has the maximum number of functionally independent, pair-wise commuting conserved quantities, i.e. it is completely integrable. We have also determined all the possible coordinate forms of the Killing v…
We introduce the domain structure for stationary black hole space-times. Given a set of commuting Killing vector fields of the space-time the domain structure lives on the submanifold where at least one of the Killing vector fields have zero norm. Depending on which Killing vector field has zero norm the submanifold is naturally divided into domains. A domain corresponds either to a set of fixed points of a spatial symmetry or to a Killing horizon, depending on whether the characterizing Killing vector field is space-like or time-like near the domain. The domain structure provides invariants o…
Local scalar QFT (in Weyl algebraic approach) is constructed on degenerate semi-Riemannian manifolds corresponding to Killing horizons in spacetime. Covariance properties of the $C^*$-algebra of observables with respect to the conformal group $PSL(2,\bR)$ are studied. It is shown that, in addition to the state studied by Guido, Longo, Roberts and Verch for bifurcated Killing horizons, which is conformally invariant and KMS at Hawking temperature with respect to the Killing flow and defines a conformal net of von Neumann algebras, there is a further wide class of algebraic (coherent) states repr…
New similarity variables are introduced for the Einstein - Maxwell equations with one Killing vector that reduce the non-linear partial differential equations in three independent variables to ordinary differential equations. These similarity variables are the extensions of those previously found for the Einstein-Maxwell equations with two Killing vectors. The resulting equations are then solved, providing new solutions of the Einstein - Maxwell equations with one Killing Vector.
We consider first order linear operators commuting with the operator appearing in the linearized equation of motion of Rarita-Schwinger fields which comes directly from the action. First we consider a simplified operator giving an equation equivalent to the original equation, and classify first order operators commuting with it in four dimensions. In general such operators are symmetry operators of the original operator, but we find that some of them commute with it. We extend this result in four dimensions to arbitrary dimensions and give first order commuting operators constructed of odd ran…
In this paper we are concerned to reveal that any spacetime structure <M,[g]<LaTeX>\slg</LaTeX>,D,τ_{[sg]<LaTeX>\sslg</LaTeX>},\uparrow>, which is a model of a gravitational field in General Relativity generated by an energy-momentum tensor T --- and which contains at least one nontrivial Killing vector field A --- is such that the 2-form field F=dA (where A=[g]<LaTeX>\slg</LaTeX>(A,)) satisfies a Maxwell like equation --- with a well determined current that contains a term of the superconducting type--- which follows directly from Einstein equation. Moreover, we show that the resulting Maxwel…
Starting with a subclass of the four-dimensional spaces possessing two commuting Killing vectors and a non-trivial Killing tensor, we fully integrate Einstein's vacuum equation with a cosmological constant. Although most of the solutions happen to be already known, we have found a solution that, as far as we could search for, has not been attained before. We also characterize the geometric properties of this new solution, it is a Kundt spacetime of Petrov type II possessing a null Killing vector field and an isometry algebra that is three-dimensional and abelian. In particular, such solution b…
In this short paper we establish the definition of the Lie derivative of a second rank tensor in the context of teleparallel theory of gravity and also extend it for a general tensor of rank $p+q$. This definition is then used to find Killing vectors of the Einstein universe. It turns out that Killing vectors of the Einstein universe in the teleparallel theory are the same as in General Relativity.
Einstein complex spacetimes admitting null Killing or null homothetic Killing vectors are studied. These vectors define totally null and geodesic 2-surfaces called the null strings or twistor surfaces. Geometric properties of these null strings are discussed. It is shown, that spaces considered are hyperheavenly spaces (HH-spaces) or, if one of the parts of the Weyl tensor vanishes, heavenly spaces (H-spaces). The explicit complex metrics admitting null Killing vectors are found. Some Lorentzian and ultrahyperbolic slices of these metrics are discussed.
We investigate solutions of new massive gravity with two commuting Killing vectors, one of which is null, with a special emphasis on black hole solutions. Besides extreme BTZ black holes and, for a special value of the coupling constant, massless null warped black holes, we also obtain for a critical coupling a family of massive "log" black holes. These are asymptotic to the extreme BTZ black holes in the sense of log gravity.
The solutions of vacuum Einstein's field equations, for the class of Riemannian metrics admitting a non Abelian bidimensional Lie algebra of Killing fields, are explicitly described. They are parametrized either by solutions of a transcendental equation (the tortoise equation), or by solutions of a linear second order differential equation in two independent variables. Metrics, corresponding to solutions of the tortoise equation, are characterized as those that admit a 3-dimensional Lie algebra of Killing fields with bidimensional leaves.
Exact solutions to an Einstein-Maxwell(E-D-M) system with an electric current are simple models of global cosmic magnetic phenomena in the universe. In this paper, we consider an E-D-M system with two chiral spinors $ ψ^\pm$ coupled with a gauge field $ A$ and an electromagnetic field $F=dA$. We construct a family of exact solutions to the E-D-M system on four-dimensional static Sasakian spacetimes. The electromagnetic field in the solutions is a contact magnetic field, and the chiral spinors are induced from Sasakian quasi-Killing spinors. We find closed universe models whose weak energy cond…
In a space-time $M$ with a Killing vector field $ξ^a$ which is either everywhere timelike or everywhere spacelike, the collection of all trajectories of $ξ^a$ gives a 3-dimension space $S$. Besides the symmetry-reduced action from that of Einstein-Hilbert, an alternative action of the fields on $S$ is also proposed, which gives the same fields equations as those reduced from the vacuum Einstein equation on $M$.
A formalism (zeta-complex analysis), allowing one to construct global Einstein metrics by matching together local ones described in the papers Phys. Lett. B 513(2001)142-146; Diff. Geom. Appl. 16(2002)95-120, is developed. With this formalism the singularities of the obtained metrics are described naturally as well.
Through an exhaustive search, we produce a 5-parameter family of propagation identities for the closed conformal Killing-Yano equation on 2-forms, which hold on an Einstein cosmological vacuum spacetime in any dimension $n>4$. It is well-known that spacetimes admitting a non-degenerate 2-form of this type are exhausted by the Kerr-NUT-(A)dS family of exact higher dimensional black hole solutions. As a consequence, we identify a set of necessary and sufficient conditions ensuring that the cosmological vacuum development of an initial data set for Einstein's field equations admits a closed confo…
In a previous paper (hep-th/0407256) local scalar QFT (in Weyl algebraic approach) has been constructed on degenerate semi-Riemannian manifolds $\bS^1\times Σ$ corresponding to the extension of Killing horizons by adding points at infinity to the null geodesic forming the horizon. It has been proved that the theory admits a natural representation of $PSL(2,\bR)$ in terms of $*$-automorphisms and this representation is unitarily implementable if referring to a certain invariant state $λ$. Among other results it has been proved that the theory admits a class of inequivalent algebraic (coherent) …
It is well known that any 4-dimensional hyperkahler metric with two commuting Killing fields may be obtained explicitly, via the Gibbons-Hawking Ansatz, from a harmonic function invariant under a Killing field on R^3. In this paper, we find all selfdual Einstein metrics of nonzero scalar curvature with two commuting Killing fields. They are given explicitly in terms of a local eigenfunction of the Laplacian on the hyperbolic plane. We discuss the relation of this construction to a class of selfdual spaces found by Joyce, and some Einstein-Weyl spaces found by Ward, and then show that certain `…
By using anholonomic frames in (pseudo) Riemannian spaces we define anisotropic extensions of Euclidean Taub-NUT spaces. With respect to coordinate frames such spaces are described by off-diagonal metrics which could be diagonalized by corresponding anholonomic transforms. We define the conditions when the 5D vacuum Einstein equations have as solutions anisotropic Taub-NUT spaces. The generalized Killing equations for the configuration space of anisotropically spinning particles (anisotropic spinning space) are analyzed. Simple solutions of the homogeneous part of these equations are expressed…
The geometry of two infinitely long lines of mass moving in a fixed circular orbit is considered as a toy model for the inspiral of a binary system of compact objects due to gravitational radiation. The two Killing fields in the toy model are used, according to a formalism introduced by Geroch, to describe the geometry entirely in terms of a set of tensor fields on the two-manifold of Killing vector orbits. Geroch's derivation of the Einstein equations in this formalism is streamlined and generalized. The explicit Einstein equations for the toy model spacetime are derived in terms of the degre…
We explore various aspects of the self-dual Plebański-Demiański family in the Euclidean Einstein-Maxwell-$Λ$ system. The Killing-Yano tensor which was recently found by Yasui and one of the present authors allows us to prove that the self-dual Plebański-Demiański metric can be brought into the self-dual Carter metric by an orientation-reversing coordinate transformation. We show that the self-dual Plebański-Demiański solution admits two independent Killing spinors in the framework of $N=2$ minimal gauged supergravity, whereas the non-self-dual solution admits only a single Killing spinor. This…
Violating Lorentz-invariance, and so implicitly permitting some form of superluminal communication, necessarily alters the notion of a black hole. Nevertheless, in both Einstein-Æther gravity, and Hořava-Lifshitz gravity, there is still a causally disconnected region in black-hole solutions; now being bounded by a "Universal horizon", which traps excitations of arbitrarily high velocities. To better understand the nature of these black holes, and their Universal horizons, we study ray trajectories in these spacetimes. We find evidence that Hawking radiation is associated with the Universal hor…
We construct solutions to the constraint equations in general relativity using the limit equation criterion introduced by Dahl, Humbert and the first author. We focus on solutions over compact 3-manifolds admitting a $\bS^1$-symmetry group. When the quotient manifold has genus greater than 2, we obtain strong far from CMC results.
In 4 spacetime dimensions there is a well known proof that for any asymptotically flat, stationary, and axisymmetric vacuum solution of Einstein's equation there exists a "$t$-$ϕ$" reflection isometry that reverses the direction of the timelike Killing vector field and the direction of the axial Killing vector field. However, this proof does not generalize to higher spacetime dimensions. Here we consider asymptotically flat, stationary, and axisymmetric (i.e., having one or more commuting rotational isometries) black hole spacetimes in vacuum general relativity in $d \geq 4$ spacetime dimensio…
From the Killing spinor equation and the equations satisfied by their bilinears we deduce some well known bosonic and fermionic field equations of mathematical physics. Aside from the trivially satisfied Dirac equation, these relativistic wave equations in curved spacetimes respectively are Klein-Gordon, Maxwell, Proca, Duffin-Kemmer-Petiau, Kähler, twistor and Rarita-Schwinger equations. This result shows that, besides being special kinds of Dirac fermions, Killing fermions can be regarded as physically fundamental. For the Maxwell case the problem of motion is analysed in a reverse manner wi…
It seems to be expected, that a horizon of a quasi-local type, like a Killing or an isolated horizon, by analogy with a globally defined event horizon, should be unique in some open neighborhood in the spacetime, provided the vacuum Einstein or the Einstein-Maxwell equations are satisfied. The aim of our paper is to verify whether that intuition is correct. If one can extend a so called Kundt metric, in such a way that its null, shear-free surfaces have spherical spacetime sections, the resulting spacetime is foliated by so called non-expanding horizons. The obstacle is Kundt's constraint indu…
A 3+1 decomposition of the twistor and valence-2 Killing spinor equation is made using the space spinor formalism. Conditions on initial data sets for the Einstein vacuum equations are given so that their developments contain solutions to the twistor and/or Killing equations. These lead to the notions of twistor and Killing spinor initial data. These notions are used to obtain a characterisation of initial data sets whose development are of Petrov type N or D.
In this paper, we derive the Einstein's field equation (EFE) by considering an non-commuting two dimensional quantized space, which can be excited by absorbing energy. Any variation of the energy level of space quantas, will result in a change in the quanta's area state. This means, that the geometry of space depends on the energy which exists in it. Using Holographic principle and Unruh effect, without any further assumptions like equipartition theorem, our model leads to Newton's law of gravity in the limit $\hbar \to 0$.
We consider the 3-dimensional formulation of Einstein's theory for spacetimes possessing a non-null Killing field $ξ^a$. It is known that for the vacuum case some of the basic field equations are deducible from the others. It will be shown here how this result can be generalized for the case of essentially arbitrary matter fields. The systematic study of the structure of the fundamental field equations is carried out. In particular, the existence of geometrically preferred reference systems is shown. Using local coordinates of this type two approaches are presented resulting resolvent systems …
This is the second part of a series of 3 papers. Using the same method and the same coordinates as in part 1, rotating dust solutions of Einstein's equations are investigated that possess 3-dimensional symmetry groups, under the assumption that only one of the Killing fields is spanned on the fields of velocity $u^α$ and rotation $w^α$, while the other two define vectors that are linearly independent of $u^α$ and $w^α$ at every point of the spacetime region under consideration. The Killing fields are found and the Killing equations solved for the components of the metric tensor in every case t…
We consider four (real or complex) dimensional hyper-Kähler metrics with a conformal symmetry K. The three-dimensional space of orbits of K is shown to have an Einstein-Weyl structure which admits a shear-free geodesics congruence for which the twist is a constant multiple of the divergence. In this case the Einstein-Weyl equations reduce down to a single second order PDE for one function. The Lax representation, Lie point symmetries, hidden symmetries and the recursion operator associated with this PDE are found, and some group invariant solutions are considered.
We discuss the reduction of gravitating Chern-Simons electrodynamics with two commuting Killing vectors to a dynamical problem with four degrees of freedom, and present regular particle-like solutions.
We discuss various properties of rotating Killing horizons in generic $F(R)$ theories of gravity in dimension four for spacetimes endowed with two commuting Killing vector fields. Assuming there is no curvature singularity anywhere on or outside the horizon, we construct a suitable $(3+1)$-foliation. We show that similar to Einstein's gravity, we must have $T_{ab}k^ak^b=0$ on the Killing horizon, where $k^a$ is a null geodesic tangent to the horizon. For axisymmetric spacetimes, the effective gravitational coupling $\sim\,F'^{-1}(R)$ should usually depend upon the polar coordinate and hence ne…
For stationary cylindrically symmetric solutions of the Einstein-Maxwell equation we have shown that the "charged" solutions of McCrea, Chitre et al.(CGN), Van den Bergh and Wils (VW) can be obtained from the seed metrics using generating conjecture. The McCrea "charged" solution has as a seed vacuum metric the Van Stockum solution with a Killing vector (0,0,1,0). The CGN "charged" solution and the VW "charged" solution have the static seed metrics connected by the complex substitution (t --> iz), (z --> it) and the Killing vector which is a simple linear combination of ${\partial}_ϕ$ and ${\p…
We present weighted covariant derivatives and wave operators for perturbations of certain algebraically special Einstein spacetimes in arbitrary dimensions, under which the Teukolsky and related equations become weighted wave equations. We show that the higher dimensional generalization of the principal null directions are weighted conformal Killing vectors with respect to the modified covariant derivative. We also introduce a modified Laplace-de Rham-like operator acting on tensor-valued differential forms, and show that the wave-like equations are, at the linear level, appropriate projection…
Generalizing the scaling limit of Martelli and Sparks [hep-th/0505027] into an arbitrary number of spacetime dimensions we re-obtain the (most general explicitly known) Einstein-Sasaki spaces constructed by Chen, Lu, and Pope [hep-th/0604125]. We demonstrate that this limit has a well-defined geometrical meaning which links together the principal conformal Killing-Yano tensor of the original Kerr-NUT-(A)dS spacetime, the Kahler 2-form of the resulting Einstein-Kahler base, and the Sasakian 1-form of the final Einstein-Sasaki space. The obtained Einstein-Sasaki space possesses the tower of Kill…
In general, geometries of Petrov type II do not admit symmetries in terms of Killing vectors or spinors. We introduce a weaker form of Killing equations which do admit solutions. In particular, there is an analog of the Penrose-Walker Killing spinor. Some of its properties, including associated conservation laws, are discussed. Perturbations of Petrov type II Einstein geometries in terms of a complex scalar Debye potential yield complex solutions to the linearized Einstein equations. The complex linearized Weyl tensor is shown to be half Petrov type N. The remaining curvature component on the …
This is the third and last part of a series of 3 papers. Using the same method and the same coordinates as in parts 1 and 2, rotating dust solutions of Einstein's equations are investigated that possess 3-dimensional symmetry groups, under the assumption that each of the Killing vectors is linearly independent of velocity $u^α$ and rotation $w^α$ at every point of the spacetime region under consideration. The Killing fields are found and the Killing equations are solved for the components of the metric tensor in every case that arises. No progress was made with the Einstein equations in any of…
For a rotating dust with a 3-dimensional symmetry group all possible metric forms can be classified and, within each class, explicitly written out. This is made possible by the formalism of Plebański based on the Darboux theorem. In the resulting coordinates, the Killing vector fields (if any exist) assume a special form. Each Killing vector field may be either spanned on the fields of velocity and rotation or linearly independent of them. By considering all such cases one arrives at the classification. With respect to the structures of the groups, this is just the Bianchi classification, but …
It has often been suggested (especially by Carlip) that spacetime symmetries in the neighborhood of a black hole horizon may be relevant to a statistical understanding of the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy. A prime candidate for this type of symmetry is that which is exhibited by the Einstein tensor. More precisely, it is now known that this tensor takes on a strongly constrained (block-diagonal) form as it approaches any stationary, non-extremal Killing horizon. Presently, exploiting the geometrical properties of such horizons, we provide a particularly elegant argument that substantiates this hi…
Using the ADM formulation of the Einstein-Maxwell axion-dilaton gravity we derived the formulas for the variation of mass and other asymptotic conserved quantities in the theory under consideration. Generalizing this kind of reasoning to the initial dota for the manifold with an interior boundary we got the generalized first law of black hole mechanics. We consider an asymptotically flat solution to the Einstein-Maxwell axion-dilaton gravity describing a black hole with a Killing vector field timelike at infinity, the horizon of which comprises a bifurcate Killing horizon with a bifurcate surf…
We study some symmetry and integrability properties of four-dimensional Einstein-Maxwell gravity with nonvanishing cosmological constant in the presence of Killing vectors. First of all, we consider stationary spacetimes, which lead, after a timelike Kaluza-Klein reduction followed by a dualization of the two vector fields, to a three-dimensional nonlinear sigma model coupled to gravity, whose target space is a noncompact version of $\mathbb{C}\text{P}^2$ with SU(2,1) isometry group. It is shown that the potential for the scalars, that arises from the cosmological constant in four dimensions, …
We derive the equations corresponding to twisting type-N vacuum gravitational fields with one Killing vector and one homothetic Killing vector by using the same approach as that developed by one of us in order to treat the case with two non-commuting Killing vectors. We study the case when the homothetic parameter $ϕ$ takes the value -1, which is shown to admit a reduction to a third-order real ordinary differential equation for this problem, similar to that previously obtained by one of us when two Killing vectors are present.
We study analytically quantum tunneling of relativistic and non-relativistic particles at both Killing and universal horizons of Einstein-Maxwell-aether black holes, after high-order curvature corrections are taken into account, for which the dispersion relation of the particles becomes nonlinear. Our results at the Killing horizons confirm the previous ones, i.e., at high frequencies the corresponding radiation remains thermal and the nonlinearity of the dispersion does not alter the Hawking radiation significantly. In contrary, non-relativistic particles are created at universal horizons and…
New relations involving the Riemann, Ricci and Einstein tensors that have to hold for a given geometry to admit Killing-Yano tensors are described. These relations are then used to introduce novel conserved "currents" involving such Killing-Yano tensors. For a particular current based on the Einstein tensor, we discuss the issue of conserved charges and consider implications for matter coupled to gravity. The condition on the background geometry to allow asymptotic conserved charges for a current introduced by Kastor and Traschen is found and a number of other new aspects of this current are c…
We obtain necessary and sufficient conditions for an initial data set for the vacuum conformal Einstein field equations to give rise to a spacetime development in possession of a Killing spinor. The fact that the conformal Einstein field equations are used in our derivation allows for the possibility of the initial hypersurface $\mathcal{S}$ intersecting non-trivially with (or even being a subset of) null infinity $\mathscr{I}$. For conciseness, these conditions are derived assuming that the initial hypersurface is spacelike. Hence, in particular, these conformal Killing spinor initial data eq…
We consider 5D Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton (EMd) gravity in spacetimes with three commuting Killing vectors: one timelike and two spacelike Killing vectors, one of which is hypersurface-orthogonal. Assuming a special ansatz for the Maxwell field we show that the 2-dimensional reduced EMd equations are completely integrable. We also develop a solution generating method for explicit construction of exact EMd solutions from known exact solutions of 5D vacuum Einstein equations with considered symmetries. We derive explicitly the rotating dipole black ring solutions as a particular application of the…
We show how one can systematically construct vacuum solutions to Einstein field equations with $D-2$ commuting Killing vectors in $D>4$ dimensions. The construction uses Einstein-scalar field seed solutions in 4 dimensions and is performed both for the case when all the Killing directions are spacelike, as well as when one of the Killing vectors is timelike. The later case corresponds to generalizations of stationary axially symmetric solutions to higher dimensions. Some examples representing generalizations of known higher dimensional stationary solutions are discussed in terms of their rod s…
Benefiting from the index spinorial formalism, the Killing spinor equation is integrated in six-dimensional spacetimes. The integrability conditions for the existence of a Killing spinor are worked out and the Killing spinors are classified in two algebraic types, in the first type the scalar curvature of the spacetime must be negative, while in the second type the spacetime must be an Einstein manifold. In addition, the equations that define Killing-Yano (KY) and closed conformal Killing-Yano (CCKY) tensors are expressed in the index notation and, as consequence, all non-vanishing KY and CCKY…
We show that two stationary, asymptotically flat vacuum black holes in 5 dimensions with two commuting axial symmetries are identical if and only if their masses, angular momenta, and their ``rod structures'' coincide. We also show that the horizon must be topologically either a 3-sphere, a ring, or a Lens-space. Our argument is a generalization of constructions of Morisawa and Ida (based in turn on key work of Maison) who considered the spherical case, combined with basic arguments concerning the nature of the factor manifold of symmetry orbits.
