Gravitational wave echoes can be used as a significant observable to understand the properties of black holes horizon. In addition, echoes would also closely relate to the unique properties of compact objects. In this work we study the evolution of electromagnetic field and scalar field under the background of novel black-bounce spacetimes. Our results show an obvious echoes signal that can characterize the properties of novel black-bounce spacetimes, and a detailed analysis about the characteristics of the echoes signal is given. By studying the quasinormal ringdown of the three states of novel black-bounce spacetimes, including black holes in $0<a<2 M$, the one-way wormhole in $a=2M$ and the traversable wormhole in $a>2 M$, we find that the echoes signal only appears when $a>2M$ in this spacetime, but when the parameter $a$ increases to a threshold, the echoes signal will be transformed into a quasinormal ringdown of the two-way traversable wormhole.
In present work, the evolution of scalar field and electromagnetic field under the background of the charged black-bounce spacetimes are investigated, and we obtain an obvious echoes signal which appropriately reports the properties of the charged black-bounce spacetimes and disclose the physical reasons behind such phenomena. Furthermore, by studying the quasinormal ringdown, we analyze the three states of the charged black-bounce spacetimes in detail, our results show that the echoes signal only appears when $(\rvert {Q}\rvert \le m)$ and $(\rvert {l}\rvert > m+ \sqrt{m ^{2}-Q^{2} })$ in thi…
In the string theory, the fundamental blocks of nature are not particles but one-dimensional strings. Therefore, a generalization of this idea is to think of it as a cloud of strings. Rodrigues et al. embedded the black bounces spacetime into the string cloud, which demonstrates that the existence of the string cloud makes the Bardeen black hole singular, while the black bounces spacetime remains regular. On the other hand, the echoes are the correction to the late stage of the quasinormal ringing for a black hole, which is caused by the deviation of the spacetime relative to the initial black…
The existence of exact solutions which represent a lattice of black holes at a scalar-field-dominated cosmological bounce suggests that black holes could persist through successive eras of a cyclic cosmology. Here we explore some remarkable cosmological consequences of this proposal. In different mass ranges pre-big-bang black holes could explain the dark matter, provide seeds for galaxies, generate entropy and even drive the bounce itself. The cycles end naturally when the filling factor of the black holes reaches unity and this could entail a dimensional transition.
The time evolution of the field perturbations in the wormhole and black bounce backgrounds are investigated. We find that the asymmetry of spacetime results in the asymmetry of the effective potential of the perturbed equation. The quasinormal modes are strongly dependent on the shapes of the effective potentials. Specifically, the signals of echoes arise in some wormhole cases and reflect the asymmetric properties of wormholes. We examine the features of echoes within different circumstances. Besides, the negative values of effective potentials usually imply the instability of the system. By …

We have studied the stability of wormhole geometries, under massless scalar, electromagnetic and axial gravitational perturbations, in the context of higher dimensional spacetimes. Intriguingly, the construction of a wormhole spacetime in the presence of higher dimensions, known as braneworld wormholes, \emph{does not} require the existence of exotic matter fields, unlike the scenario in four spacetime dimensions. Being a nonvacuum spacetime, the effective potential experienced by the axial gravitational perturbation differs considerably from the scenarios involving black holes. In particular,…
We study the stability of an asymptotically flat, static, spherically symmetric naked singularity spacetime in the novel four dimensional Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity. The four dimensional EGB black hole for large enough values of the coupling parameter leads to such a naked singularity. The stability and the response of the spacetime is studied against the perturbations by test scalar, electromagnetic and Dirac fields and the time evolution of these perturbations were observed numerically. Implementing a null Dirichlet boundary condition near the singularity, we observed that for l=1 m…
Though the cosmic censorship conjecture states that spacetime singularities must be hidden from an asymptotic observer by an event horizon, naked singularities can form as the end product of a gravitational collapse under suitable initial conditions, so the question of how to observationally distinguish such naked singularities from standard black hole spacetimes becomes important. In the present paper, we try to address this question by studying the ringdown profile of the Janis-Newman-Winicour (JNW) naked singularity under axial gravitational perturbation. The JNW spacetime has a surfacelike…
Recently, two kinds of deformed schwarzschild spacetime have been proposed, which are the black-bounces metric (\cite{2019JCAP...02..042S,2021PhRvD.103h4052L}) and quantum deformed black hole (BH) (\cite{2021arXiv210202471B}). In present work, we investigate the rotating spacetime of these deformed Schwarzschild metric. They are exact solutions to the Einstein$'$s field equation. We analyzed the properties of these rotating spacetimes, such as event horizon (EH), stationary limit surface (SIS), structure of singularity ring, energy condition (EC), etc., and found that these rotating spacetime …
We consider a non-static evolving version of the regular "black-bounce"/traversable wormhole geometry recently introduced in JCAP02(2019)042 [arXiv:1812.07114 [gr-qc]]. We first re-write the static metric using Eddington-Finkelstein coordinates, and then allow the mass parameter $m$ to depend on the null time coordinate (a la Vaidya). The spacetime metric is \[ ds^{2}=-\left(1-\frac{2m(w)}{\sqrt{r^{2}+a^{2}}}\right)dw^{2}-(\pm 2 \,dw \,dr) +\left(r^{2}+a^{2}\right)\left(dθ^{2}+\sin^{2}θ\;dϕ^{2}\right). \] Here $w=\{u,v\}$ denotes the $\{outgoing,ingoing\}$ null time coordinate; representing $\…
In this work, we calculate the deflection angle of light in a spacetime that interpolates between regular black holes and traversable wormholes, depending on the free parameter of the metric. Afterwards, this angular deflection is substituted into the lens equations which allows to obtain physically measurable results, such as the position of the relativistic images and the magnifications.
Given the recent development of rotating black-bounce-Kerr spacetimes, for both theoretical and observational purposes it becomes interesting to see whether it might be possible to construct black-bounce variants of the entire Kerr-Newman family. Specifically, herein we shall consider black-bounce-Reissner-Nordström and black-bounce-Kerr-Newman spacetimes as particularly simple and clean everywhere-regular black hole "mimickers" that deviate from the Kerr-Newman family in a precisely controlled and minimal manner, and smoothly interpolate between regular black holes and traversable wormholes. …

We investigate retrolensing by two photon spheres in a novel black-bounce spacetime suggested by Lobo et al. which can correspond to a Schwarzschild black hole, a regular black hole, and a traversable wormhole including an Ellis-Bronnikov wormhole. In a case, the wormhole has a throat which acts as a photon sphere and it has another photon sphere outside of the throat. With the sun as a light source, an observer, and the wormhole are lined up in this order, sunlight reflected slightly outside of the throat and barely outside and inside of the outer photon sphere can reach the observer. We show…
Gravitational wave astronomy provides an unprecedented opportunity to test the nature of black holes and search for exotic, compact alternatives. Recent studies have shown that exotic compact objects (ECOs) can ring down in a manner similar to black holes, but can also produce a sequence of distinct pulses resembling the initial ringdown. These "echoes" would provide definite evidence for the existence of ECOs. In this work we study the generation of these echoes in a generic, parametrized model for the ECO, using Green's functions. We show how to reprocess radiation in the near-horizon region…
We investigate gravitational lensing by a primary photon sphere which is a sphere filled with unstable circular light orbits, and by a secondary photon sphere on a wormhole throat in a black-bounce spacetime which is suggested in [F. S. N. Lobo, M. E. Rodrigues, M. V. d. S. Silva, A. Simpson, and M. Visser, Phys. Rev. D 103, 084052 (2021)] in strong deflection limits. There is an antiphoton sphere between the primary photon sphere and the secondary photon sphere. If a light source and an observer are on the same side of the wormhole throat, in addition to an infinite number of images slightly …
Key results from the literature pertaining to a class of nonsingular black hole mimickers are explored. The family of candidate spacetimes is for now labelled the `black-bounce' family, stemming from the original so-called `Simpson--Visser' spacetime in static spherical symmetry. All model geometries are analysed through the lens of standard general relativity, are globally free from curvature singularities, pass all weak-field observational tests, and smoothly interpolate between regular black holes and traversable wormholes. The discourse is segregated along geometrical lines, with candidate…
We compare the optical appearance of a thin accretion disk in the Simpson-Visser spacetime to the Schwarzschild black hole case in this paper. We calculate and illustrate the red-shift and observed flux distributions as viewed by distant observers at various inclination angles. Simpson-Visser family of metrics create Novikov-Thorne (NT) accretion disks images that nearly look like a Schwarzschild black hole's NT accretion disk. We have studied also the embedding diagram, the electromagnetic properties of the accretion disk such as the temperature and the radiation flux of the energy by the acc…
Recently a consistent non-perturbative quantization of the Schwarzschild interior resulting in a bounce from black hole to white hole geometry has been obtained by loop quantizing the Kantowski-Sachs vacuum spacetime. As in other spacetimes where the singularity is dominated by the Weyl part of the spacetime curvature, the structure of the singularity is highly anisotropic in the Kantowski-Sachs vacuum spacetime. As a result the bounce turns out to be in general asymmetric creating a large mass difference between the parent black hole and the child white hole. In this manuscript, we investigat…
A Simpson-Visser spacetime has two nonnegative parameters $a$ and $m$ and its metric is correspond with (i) a Schwarzschild metric for $a=0$ and $m\neq0$, (ii) a regular black hole metric for $a<2m$, (iii) a one-way traversable wormhole metric for $a=2m$, (vi) a two-way traversable wormhole metric for $a>2m$, and (v) an Ellis-Bronnikov wormhole metric for $a\neq0$ and $m=0$. The spacetime is one of the most useful spacetimes for the purpose of comprehensively understanding gravitational lensing of light rays reflected by a photon sphere of black holes and wormholes. We have investigated gravit…
We use qualitative arguments combined with numerical simulations to argue that, in the approach to the singularity in a vacuum solution of Einstein's equations with $T^2$ isometry, the evolution at a generic point in space is an endless succession of Kasner epochs, punctuated by bounces in which either a curvature term or a twist term becomes important in the evolution equations for a brief time. Both curvature bounces and twist bounces may be understood within the context of local mixmaster dynamics although the latter have never been seen before in spatially inhomogeneous cosmological spacet…
We develop a number of novel "black-bounce" spacetimes. These are specific regular black holes where the "area radius" always remains non-zero, thereby leading to a "throat" that is either timelike (corresponding to a traversable wormhole), spacelike (corresponding to a "bounce" into a future universe), or null (corresponding to a "one-way wormhole"). We shall first perform a general analysis of the regularity conditions for such a spacetime, and then consider a number of specific examples. The examples are constructed using a mass function similar to that of Fan--Wang, and fall into several p…
Gravitational waves are rapidly becoming a very reliable tool for testing alternative theories of gravity. In particular, features in the gravitational wave emission during black hole ringdown phase provide a direct probe of the spacetime outside the black hole. In this article, we consider black holes in ghost-free massive gravity. These black holes generically have scalar hair. We found that a simple coupling between gravitational perturbations and this scalar hair can change the quasinormal ringing of the black hole, and in particular, produce echoes in the emitted gravitational waves. This…
Various spacetime candidates for traversable wormholes, regular black holes, and `black-bounces' are presented and thoroughly explored in the context of the gravitational theory of general relativity. All candidate spacetimes belong to the mathematically simple class of spherically symmetric geometries; the majority are static, with a single dynamical (time-dependent) geometry explored. To the extent possible, the candidates are presented through the use of a global coordinate patch -- some of the prior literature (especially concerning traversable wormholes) has often proposed coordinate syst…
So-called "regular black holes" are a topic currently of considerable interest in the general relativity and astrophysics communities. Herein we investigate a particularly interesting regular black hole spacetime described by the line element \[ ds^{2}=-\left(1-\frac{2m}{\sqrt{r^{2}+a^{2}}}\right)dt^{2}+\frac{dr^{2}}{1-\frac{2m}{\sqrt{r^{2}+a^{2}}}} +\left(r^{2}+a^{2}\right)\left(dθ^{2}+\sin^{2}θ\;dϕ^{2}\right). \] This spacetime neatly interpolates between the standard Schwarzschild black hole and the Morris-Thorne traversable wormhole; at intermediate stages passing through a black-bounce (i…
We consider a very simple model for gravitational wave echoes from black hole merger ringdowns which may arise from local Lorentz symmetry violations that modify graviton dispersion relations. If the corrections are sufficiently soft so they do not remove the horizon, the reflection of the infalling waves which trigger the echoes is very weak. As an example, we look at the dispersion relation of a test scalar field corrected by roton-like operators depending only on spatial momenta, in Gullstrand-Painlevé coordinates. The near-horizon regions of a black hole do become reflective, but only very…
The photon ring, shadow and observational appearance of the emission originating near a charged black-bounce are investigated. Based on the geodesic analysis, we determine the upper and lower limits of critical impact parameters of a charged black-bounce. In particular, we find that the charged black-bounce shares the same critical impact parameter with the Reissner-Nordstöm black hole. In addition, we classify the light trajectories coming from the region near the charged black-bounce by utilizing the rays tracing procedure, and then investigate the observational appearance of the emissions f…
Quantum nature of black hole horizons has been a subject of recent interest and scrutiny. In particular, a near-horizon quantum violation of the equivalence principle has been proposed as a resolution of the black hole information paradox. Such a violation may lead to a modified dispersion relation at high energies, which could become relevant due to the intense gravitational blueshift experienced by ingoing gravitational waves. We investigate the ringdown for a perturbed black hole with such a modified dispersion relation and find that infalling gravitational waves are partially reflected nea…
The recent detection of gravitational waves has generated interest in alternatives to the black hole interpretation of sources. One set of such alternatives involves a prediction of gravitational wave "echoes". We consider two aspects of possible echoes: First, general features of echoes coming from spacetime reflecting conditions. We find that the detailed nature of such echoes does not bear any clear relationship to quasi-normal frequencies. Second, we point out the pitfalls in the analysis of local reflecting "walls" near the horizon of rapidly rotating black holes.
The "black-bounce" spacetime geometries, were recently proposed in [A. Simpson, M. Visser, JCAP 02 (2019) 042] as regular black holes that bouncing into a future incarnation of the universe. In this work we will present several black-bounce exact solutions of General Relativity. Among them is a novel type of black-bounce solutions, which in contrast of the Simpson-Visser type [A. Simpson, M. Visser, JCAP 02 (2019) 042], do not have the Ellis wormhole metric as a particular case. The source of these solutions are linear superposition of phantom scalar fields and nonlinear electromagnetic fields…
We present numerical waveforms of gravitational-wave echoes from spinning exotic compact objects (ECOs) that result from binary black hole coalescence. We obtain these echoes by solving the Teukolsky equation for the $ψ_4$ associated with gravitational waves that propagate toward the horizon of a Kerr spacetime, and process the subsequent reflections of the horizon-going wave by the surface of the ECO, which lies right above the Kerr horizon. The trajectories of the infalling objects are modified from Kerr geodesics, such that the gravitational waves propagating toward future null infinity mat…
The present work analyzes the various conditions in which there can be a bouncing universe solution in f(R) gravity. In the article an interesting method, to analyze the bouncing FRW solutions in a spatially flat universe using f(R) gravity models using an effective Einstein frame description of the process, is presented. The analysis shows that a cosmological bounce in the f(R) theory need not be described by an equivalent bounce in the Einstein frame description of the process where actually there may be no bounce at all. Nevertheless the Einstein frame description of the bouncing phenomena …
