It has been known for many years that the leading correction to the black hole entropy is a logarithmic term, which is universal and closely related to conformal anomaly. A fully consistent analysis of this issue has to take quantum backreactions to the black hole geometry into account. However, it was always unclear how to naturally derive the modified black hole metric especially from an effective action, because the problem refers to the elusive non-locality of quantum gravity. In this paper, we show that this problem can be resolved within an effective field theory (EFT) framework of quantum gravity. Our work suggests that the EFT approach provides a powerful and self-consistent tool for studying the quantum gravitational corrections to black hole geometries and thermodynamics.
Due to quantum fluctuations, spacetime is foamy on small scales. The degree of foaminess is found to be consistent with holography, a principle prefigured in the physics of black hole entropy. It has bearing on the ultimate accuracies of clocks and measurements and the physics of quantum computation. Consistent with existing archived data on active galactic nuclei from the Hubble Space Telescope, the application of the holographic spacetime foam model to cosmology requires the existence of dark energy which, we argue, is composed of an enormous number of inert "particles" of extremely long wav…
We evaluate the one loop determinant of matter multiplet fields of N=4 supergravity in the near horizon geometry of quarter BPS black holes, and use it to calculate logarithmic corrections to the entropy of these black holes using the quantum entropy function formalism. We show that even though individual fields give non-vanishing logarithmic contribution to the entropy, the net contribution from all the fields in the matter multiplet vanishes. Thus logarithmic corrections to the entropy of quarter BPS black holes, if present, must be independent of the number of matter multiplet fields in the…
We compute the logarithmic corrections to black hole (BH) entropy product of ${\cal H}^{\pm}$ \footnote{ ${\cal H}^{+}$ and ${\cal H}^{-}$ denote outer (event) horizon and inner (Cauchy) horizons} by using \emph{Cardy prescription}. We particularly apply this formula for \emph{BTZ BH}. We speculate that the logarithmic corrections to entropy product of ${\cal H}^{\pm}$ when computed \emph{via Cardy formula} the product should be neither \emph{mass-independent (universal)} nor be \emph{quantized}.
Exploiting a recently constructed target space action for the exact string black hole, logarithmic corrections to the leading order entropy are studied. There are contributions from thermal fluctuations and from corrections due to alpha'>0 which for the microcanonical entropy appear with different signs and therefore may cancel each other, depending on the overall factor in front of the action. For the canonical entropy no such cancellation occurs. Remarks are made regarding the applicability of the approach and concerning the microstates. As a byproduct a formula for logarithmic entropy corre…
Logarithmic corrections to the extremal black hole entropy can be computed purely in terms of the low energy data -- the spectrum of massless fields and their interaction. The demand of reproducing these corrections provides a strong constraint on any microscopic theory of quantum gravity that attempts to explain the black hole entropy. Using quantum entropy function formalism we compute logarithmic corrections to the entropy of half BPS black holes in N=2 supersymmetric string theories. Our results allow us to test various proposals for the measure in the OSV formula, and we find agreement wi…
We compute logarithmic corrections to the black hole entropy $S_{\rm bh}$ in a holographic set up where the cosmological constant $Λ$ and Newton's constant $G_D$ are taken to be thermodynamic parameters, related to variations in bulk pressure \(P\) and central charge \(c\). In the bulk, the logarithmic corrections are of the form: $\mathcal{S} = S_{\rm bh} - k \ln S_{\rm bh} + \cdots$ arising due to fluctuations in thermodynamic volume, induced by a variable $Λ$, in addition to energy fluctuations. We explicitly compute this coefficient $k$ for the BTZ black hole and show that the result match…
The entanglement entropy correlates two quantum sub-systems which are the part of the larger system. A logarithmic divergence term present in the entanglement entropy is universal in nature and directly proportional to the conformal anomaly. We study this logarithmic divergence term of entropy for massive scalar field in $(2+1)$ dimension by applying numerical techniques to entanglement entropy approach. This (2+1) dimensional massive theory can be obtained from (3+1) dimensional massless scalar field via dimensional reduction. We also calculated mass corrections to entanglement entropy for sc…
In this paper, we have considered a cosmological model with the non--minimal kinetic coupling terms and investigated its cosmological implications with respect to the logarithmic entropy-- corrected holographic dark energy (LECHDE). The correspondence between LECHDE in flat FRW cosmology and the phantom dark energy model with the aim to interpret the current universe acceleration is also examined.
We examine the logarithmic corrections to the black hole (BH) entropy product formula of outer horizon and inner horizon by taking into account the \emph{effects of statistical quantum fluctuations around the thermal equilibrium} and \emph{via conformal field theory} (CFT). We argue that logarithmic corrections to the BH entropy product formula when calculated using CFT and taking into the effects of quantum fluctuations around the thermal equilibrium, the formula should \emph{not be universal} and it should also \emph{not be quantized}. These results have been explicitly checked by giving sev…
It has been shown by explicit and exact calculation that whenever we have taken the \emph{effects of stable thermal fluctuations} the entropy product formula should \emph{not be mass-independent} nor \emph{does it quantized}. It has been examined by giving some specific examples for non-rotating and rotating black hole.
The tunneling approach beyond semiclassical approximation has been used to calculate the corrected Hawking temperature and entropy for various black holes and FRW universe model. We examine their derivations, and prove that the quantity $H$ in the corrected temperature is the explicit function of the only free parameter $\mathcal{A}$ (which is an auxiliary parameter defined by $\mathcal{A}=\hbar S_{BH}$). Our analysis improves previous calculations, and indicates that the leading order logarithmic correction to entropy is a natural result of the corrected temperature and the first law of therm…
We present a class of exact analytic and static, spherically symmetric black hole solutions in the semi-classical Einstein equations with Weyl anomaly. The solutions have two branches, one is asymptotically flat and the other asymptotically de Sitter. We study thermodynamic properties of the black hole solutions and find that there exists a logarithmic correction to the well-known Bekenstein-Hawking area entropy. The logarithmic term might come from non-local terms in the effective action of gravity theories. The appearance of the logarithmic term in the gravity side is quite important in the …
Euclidean gravity method has been successful in computing logarithmic corrections to extremal black hole entropy in terms of low energy data, and gives results in perfect agreement with the microscopic results in string theory. Motivated by this success we apply Euclidean gravity to compute logarithmic corrections to the entropy of various non-extremal black holes in different dimensions, taking special care of integration over the zero modes and keeping track of the ensemble in which the computation is done. These results provide strong constraint on any ultraviolet completion of the theory i…
We study the noncommutative corrections to the entropy of the Reissner-Nordström black hole using a $κ$-deformed scalar probe within the brick-wall framework. The noncommutativity is encoded in an Abelian Drinfeld twist constructed from the Killing vector fields of the Reissner-Nordström black hole. We show that the noncommutative effects naturally lead to a logarithmic correction to the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy even at the lowest order of the WKB approximation. In contrast, such logarithmic corrections in the commutative setup appear only after the quantum effects are included through highe…
We consider the role of the type-A trace anomaly in static black hole solutions to semiclassical Einstein equation in four dimensions. Via Wald's Noether charge formalism, we compute the contribution to the entropy coming from the anomaly induced effective action and unveil a logarithmic correction to the Bekenstein-Hawking area law. The corrected entropy is given by a seemingly universal formula involving the coefficient of the type-A trace anomaly, the Euler characteristic of the horizon and the value at the horizon of the solution to the uniformization problem for Q-curvature. Two instances…
We derive an exact expression for the partition function of the Euclidean BTZ black hole. Using this, we show that for a black hole with large horizon area, the correction to the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy is $-3/2 log(Area)$, in agreement with that for the Schwarzschild black hole obtained in the canonical gravity formalism and also in a Lorentzian computation of BTZ black hole entropy. We find that the right expression for the logarithmic correction in the context of the BTZ black hole comes from the modular invariance associated with the toral boundary of the black hole.
We compute logarithmic corrections to the entropy of supersymmetric extremal black holes in N=4 and N=8 supersymmetric string theories and find results in perfect agreement with the microscopic results. In particular these logarithmic corrections vanish for quarter BPS black holes in N=4 supersymmetric theories, but has a finite coefficient for 1/8 BPS black holes in the N=8 supersymmetric theory. On the macroscopic side these computations require evaluating the one loop determinant of massless fields around the near horizon geometry, and include, in particular, contributions from dynamical fo…
We compute leading order corrections to the entropy of any thermodynamic system due to small statistical fluctuations around equilibrium. When applied to black holes, these corrections are shown to be of the form $-k\ln(Area)$. For BTZ black holes, $k=3/2$, as found earlier. We extend the result to anti-de Sitter Schwarzschild and Reissner-Nordstrom black holes in arbitrary dimensions. Finally we examine the role of conformal field theory in black hole entropy and its corrections.
We investigate logarithmic corrections to the entropy of supersymmetric, rotating, asymptotically AdS$_5$ black holes and black strings. Within the framework of the AdS/CFT correspondence, the entropy of these black objects is determined, on the field theory side, by the superconformal index and the refined topologically twisted index of $\mathcal{N}=4$ supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory, respectively. We read off the logarithmic correction from those field-theoretic partition functions. On the gravity side, we take the near-horizon limit and apply the Kerr/CFT correspondence whose associated ch…
Motivated by recent logarithmic entropy of Ho$\check{r}$ava-Lifshitz gravity, we investigate Hawking radiation for Kehagias-Sfetsos black hole from tunneling perspective. After considering the effect of self-gravitation, we calculate the emission rate and entropy of quantum tunneling by using Kraus-Parikh-Wilczek method. Meanwhile, both massless and massive particles are considered in this letter. Interestingly, two types tunneling particles have the same emission rate $Γ$ and entropy $S_b$ whose analytical formulae are $Γ= \exp{[π(r_{in}^2 - r_{out}^2t)/2 + π/α\ln r_{in}/r_{out}]}$ and $S_b =…
We develop new techniques to efficiently evaluate heat kernel coefficients for the Laplacian in the short-time expansion on spheres and hyperboloids with conical singularities. We then apply these techniques to explicitly compute the logarithmic contribution to black hole entropy from an N=4 vector multiplet about a Z(N) orbifold of the near-horizon geometry of quarter--BPS black holes in N=4 supergravity. We find that this vanishes, matching perfectly with the prediction from the microstate counting. We also discuss possible generalisations of our heat kernel results to higher-spin fields ove…
In this paper, we have considered $F(R,T)$ gravity as a linear function of the curvature and torsion scalars and interacted it with logarithmic entropy corrected holographic dark energy to evaluate cosmology solutions. The model has been investigated by FRW metric, and then the energy density and the pressure of dark energy have calculated. Also we obtained equation of state (EoS) parameter of dark energy and has plotted it with respect to both variable of cosmic time and $e$-folding number. Finally, we have described the scenario in three status: early, late and future time by $e$-folding num…
In the context of effective field theory, we consider quantum gravity with minimally coupled massless particles. Fixing the background geometry to be of the Kerr-Schild type, we fully determine the one-loop effective action of the theory whose finite non-local part is induced by the long-distance portion of quantum loops. This is accomplished using the non-local expansion of the heat kernel in addition to a non-linear completion technique through which the effective action is expanded in gravitational curvatures. Via Euclidean methods, we identify a logarithmic correction to the Bekenstein-Haw…
An `open' or $(μ,P,T)$-ensemble describes equilibrium systems whose control parameters are chemical potential $μ$, pressure $P$ and temperature $T$. Such an unconstrained ensemble is seldom used for applications to standard thermodynamic systems due to the fact that the corresponding free energy identically vanishes as a result of the Euler relation. However, an open ensemble is perfectly regular for the case of black holes, as the entropy is a quasi-homogeneous function of extensive thermodynamic variables with scaling dictated by the Smarr formula. Following a brief discussion on thermodynam…

Quantum effects due to conformal matter in a black hole background result in universal logarithmic corrections to black-hole entropy. The universality resides in the connection of the log term coefficient with those of type-A and type-B Weyl anomalies, regularization-scheme independent quantities. We presently study the case of extremal black holes within Wald's Noether charge formalism. In the conformal class of flat metrics, we are again able to unveil the log term in the entropy from the horizon value of the solution to the Q-curvature uniformization problem. Beyond conformally flat backgro…
The exact formula derived by us earlier for the entropy of a four dimensional non-rotating black hole within the quantum geometry formulation of the event horizon in terms of boundary states of a three dimensional Chern-Simons theory, is reexamined for large horizon areas. In addition to the {\it semiclassical} Bekenstein-Hawking contribution to the area obtained earlier, we find a contribution proportional to the logarithm of the area together with subleading corrections that constitute a series in inverse powers of the area.
The Bekenstein-Hawking (BH) entropy is expected to be modified by certain correction terms in the quantum loop expansion. As is well known the logarithmic terms in the entropy of black holes appear as a one-loop addition to the classical BH entropy. In this note we study the further modifications of the logarithmic terms in the entropy of the Schwarzschild black holes due to higher quantum loops: up to three loops in a general renormalizable theory of gauge fields, scalars and fermions and two loops in quantum gravity. For a large class of field multiplets (including that of the Standard Model…
Many recent attempts to calculate black hole entropy from first principles rely on conformal field theory techniques. By examining the logarithmic corrections to the Cardy formula, I compute the first-order quantum correction to the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy in several models, including those based on asymptotic symmetries, horizon symmetries, and certain string theories. Despite very different physical assumptions, these models all give a correction proportional to the logarithm of the horizon size, and agree qualitatively with recent results from ``quantum geometry'' in 3+1 dimensions. Ther…
We compute the entanglement entropy of minimally coupled scalar fields on subtracted geometry black hole backgrounds, focusing on the logarithmic corrections. We notice that matching between the entanglement entropy of original black holes and their subtracted counterparts is only at the order of the area term. The logarithmic correction term is not only different but also, in general, changes sign in the subtracted case. We apply Harrison transformations to the original black holes and find out the choice of the Harrison parameters for which the logarithmic corrections vanish.
Using the corrected expression of Hawking temperature derived from the tunneling formalism beyond semiclassical approximation developed by \emph{Banerjee} and \emph{Majhi}\cite{beyond}, we calculate the corrected entropy of a high dimensional Schwarzschild black hole and a 5-dimensional Gauss-Bonnet (GB) black hole. It is shown that the corrected entropy for this two kinds of black hole are in agreement with the corrected entropy formula (\ref{entropy of apparent horiozn}) that derived from tunneling method for a $(n+1)$-dimensional Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe\cite{FRW}. This fea…
It has been shown by explicit and exact calculation that the geometric product formula i.e. horizon area (or entropy) product formula of outer horizon (${\cal H}^{+}$) and inner horizon (${\cal H}^{-}$) for charged accelerating black hole (BH) should \emph{ neither be mass-independent nor it be quantized}. This implies that the horizon area (or entropy ) product is mass-independent conjecture has been~\emph{broken down} for charged accelerating BH. This also further implies that the mass-independent feature of the area product of ${\cal H}^{\pm}$ is \emph{not} a generic feature at all. We also…
We compute logarithmic corrections to the entropy of rotating extremal black holes using quantum entropy function i.e. Euclidean quantum gravity approach. Our analysis includes five dimensional supersymmetric BMPV black holes in type IIB string theory on T^5 and K3 x S^1 as well as in the five dimensional CHL models, and also non-supersymmetric extremal Kerr black hole and slowly rotating extremal Kerr-Newmann black holes in four dimensions. For BMPV black holes our results are in perfect agreement with the microscopic results derived from string theory. In particular we reproduce correctly th…
For a thermodynamic system, apart from thermal fluctuations, there are also fluctuations in thermodynamic volume when the system is in contact with a volume reservoir. For the case of black holes in anti-de Sitter spacetimes, the effect of thermal fluctuations on the entropy is well studied. The aim of this work is to compute novel logarithmic corrections to black hole entropy coming from simultaneous fluctuations of energy and thermodynamic volume. We work in the isothermal-isobaric ensemble and first obtain a general form of corrections to entropy which are valid for any thermodynamic system…
Using quantum tunneling approach, we are able to derive the entropy with logarithmic term of the static spherically symmetric black hole in semi-classical Einstein equations with conformal anomaly. The results indicate that the logarithmic correction to Bekenstein-Hawking area entropy can be well explained by the self-gravitation.
The entanglement and Rényi entropies for spherical entangling surfaces in CFTs with gravity duals can be explicitly calculated by mapping these entropies first to the thermal entropy on hyperbolic space and then, using the AdS/CFT correspondence, to the Wald entropy of topological black holes. Here we extend this idea by taking into account corrections to the Wald entropy. Using the method based on horizon symmetries and the asymptotic Cardy formula, we calculate corrections to the Wald entropy and find that these corrections are proportional to the logarithm of horizon area. With the correcte…
We consider a massive black hole in four dimensional AdS space and study the effect of thermal fluctuations on the thermodynamics of the black hole. We consider thermal fluctuations as logarithmic correction terms in the entropy. We analyse the effect of logarithmic correction on thermodynamics potentials like Helmholtz and Gibbs which are found decreasing functions. We study critical points and stability and find that presence of logarithmic correction is necessary to have stable phase and critical point.
Logarithmic corrections to the entropy of extremal black holes have been successfully used to accurately match degeneracies from microscopic constructions to calculations of the gravitational path integral. In this paper, we revisit the problem of deriving such corrections for the case of extremal black holes, either non-supersymmetric or supersymmetric, and for near-extremal black holes. The zero-modes that are present at extremality are crucial, since their path integral cannot be treated quadratically and needs to be regulated. We show how the regulated result can be obtained by taking the …
It has been argued that the entropy of de Sitter space corresponds to the entanglement between disconnected regions computable by switching on a replica parameter $q$ modeled by the quotient dS$/\mathbb{Z}_q$. Within this framework, we show that the centrally-extended asymptotic symmetry algebra near the cosmic horizon is a single copy of the Virasoro algebra. The resulting density of states matches the semi-classical result of Gibbons and Hawking up to an undetermined constant that is chosen to reproduce the entanglement entropy previously found in the literature. It follows that the logarith…
In this paper we consider a model universe with large extra dimensions to obtain a modified black hole entropy-area relation. We use the generalized uncertainty principle to find a relation between the number of spacetime dimensions and the presence or vanishing of logarithmic prefactor in the black hole entropy-area relation. Our calculations are restricted to the microcanonical ensembles and we show that in the modified entropy-area relation, the microcanonical logarithmic prefactor appears only when spacetime has an even number of dimensions.
We investigate the cosmological dynamics of interacting Logarithmic Entropy Corrected Holographic Dark Energy model with Cold Dark Matter. Fixed points are determined and their corresponding cosmological models are presented. Moreover, the dynamical properties of these fixed points are derived.
We show, using the tunneling method, that Lovelock black holes Hawking radiate with a perfect blackbody spectrum. This is a new result. Within the semiclassical (WKB) approximation the temperature of the spectrum is given by the semiclassical Hawking temperature. Beyond the semiclassical approximation the thermal nature of the spectrum does not change but the temperature undergoes some higher order corrections. This is true for both black hole (event) and cosmological horizons. Using the first law of thermodynamics the black hole entropy is calculated. Specifically the $D$-dimensional static, …
We compute logarithmic corrections to entropy for black holes with hyperbolic horizon. For this purpose, we introduce the topological black hole and MTZ black holes in four dimensions, while in five dimensions, the topological black holes and Gauss-Bonnet black hole with negative coupling are considered. As they stand, logarithmic corrections are problematic because small black holes with positive heat capacity have negative energies. However, introducing the background state of extremal black hole, the logarithmic corrections are performed for black hole with hyperbolic horizon.
The modified field equations are written in logarithmic and power law versions of entropy corrected models in Einstein's gravity in the background of FRW universe. In one section, a brief review of the Ho$\check{\text r}$ava-Lifshitz gravity is discussed and the modified field equations in logarithmic and power law versions of entropy corrected models in Ho$\check{\text r}$ava-Lifshitz gravity are formulated. The stability analysis for these models are performed by describing the dynamical system. In another section, a brief review of the fractal universe is presented and the modified field eq…

Seeley-DeWitt Coefficients in $\mathcal{N}=2$ Einstein-Maxwell Supergravity Theory and Logarithmic Corrections to $\mathcal{N}=2$ Extremal Black Hole Entropy
We numerically study the topologically twisted index of several three-dimensional supersymmetric field theories on a genus $g$ Riemann surface times a circle, $Σ_g\times S^1$. We show that for a large class of theories with leading term of the order $N^{3/2}$, where $N$ is generically the rank of the gauge group, there is a universal logarithmic correction of the form $\frac{g-1}{2} \log N$. We explain how this logarithmic subleading correction can be obtained as a one-loop effect on the dual supergravity theory for magnetically charged, asymptotically AdS$_4\times M^7$ black holes for a large…
The entropy functional formalism allows one to recover general relativity, modified gravity theories, as well as the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy formula. In most approaches to quantum gravity, the Bekenstein-Hawking's entropy formula acquires a logarithmic correction term. As such terms occur almost universally in most approaches to quantum gravity, we analyze the effect of such terms on the entropy functional formalism. We demonstrate that the leading correction to the micro-canonical entropy in the entropy functional formalism can be used to recover modified theories of gravity already obtain…
If the negative cosmological constant is treated as a dynamical pressure and if the volume be its thermodynamically conjugate variable then the gravitational mass can be expressed as the total gravitational enthalpy rather than the energy. Under these circumstances, a new phenomena emerges in the context of extended phase space thermodynamics. We \emph{examine} here these features for recently discovered Van-der-Waal (VDW) black hole (BH) \cite{mann15} which is analogous to the VDW fluid. We show that the thermodynamic volume is \emph{greater} than the naive geometric volume. We also show that…
We study the inflation via logarithmic entropy-corrected holographic dark energy LECHDE model with future event horizon, particle horizon and Hubble horizon cut-offs, and compare the results with those of obtained in the study of inflation by holographic dark energy HDE model. In comparison, the spectrum of primordial scalar power spectrum in the LECHDE model becomes redder than the spectrum in HDE model. Moreover, the consistency with the observational data in LECHDE model of inflation, constrains the reheating temperature and Hubble parameter by one parameter of holographic dark energy and t…
Recently, there has been a lot of attention devoted to resolving the quantum corrections to the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of the black hole. In particular, the coefficient of the logarithmic term in the black hole entropy correction has been of great interest. In this paper, the black hole is corresponded to a canonical ensemble in statistics by radiant spectrum, resulted from the black hole tunneling effect studies and the partition function of ensemble is derived. Then the entropy of the black hole is calculated. When the first order approximation is taken into account, the logarithmic term…
A simple regular black hole solution satisfying the weak energy condition is obtained within Einstein--non--linear electrodynamics theory. We have computed the thermodynamic properties of this black hole by a careful analysis of the horizons and we have found that the usual Bekenstein--Hawking entropy gets corrected by a logarithmic term. Therefore, in this sense our model realizes some quantum gravity predictions which add this kind of correction to the black hole entropy. In particular, we have established some similitudes between our model and a quadratic generalized uncertainty principle. …
We compute the black hole horizon entanglement entropy for a massless scalar field in the brick wall model by incorporating the minimal length. Taking the minimal length effects on the occupation number $n(ω,l)$ and the Hawking temperature into consideration, we obtain the leading UV divergent term and the subleading logarithmic term in the entropy. The leading divergent term scales with the horizon area. The subleading logarithmic term is the same as that in the usual brick wall model without the minimal length.
In this paper, we continue investigating the possible values of the pre-factors $α$ and $β$ in the logarithmic corrected entropy-area relation based on cosmological stability arguments. In a previous study, we have investigated the stability of the entropy-corrected cosmology using an empirical hyperbolic form of the scale factor. We found that the zero values of the two pre-factors are necessary to obtain a stable flat universe with a deceleration-acceleration transition and no causality violation. The necessity of the zero values of the two pre-factors has also been reached in the current wo…
