The electron-photon interaction (the spinor-vector field interaction) in the de Sitter ambient space formalism is investigated in the first (leading order) approximation. The interaction Lagrangian and the scattering matrix are presented. In this approximation, the scattering matrix can be written as a expansion of the interaction Lagrangian. The tree-diagram of electron-photon scattering amplitude is calculated. Finally the Minkowski limit is considered.
In the de Sitter ambient space formalism the massless fields, which include the linear gravity and massless minimally coupled scalar field, can be written in terms of two separate parts: a massless conformally coupled scalar field and a polarization tensor(-spinor) part. Therefore due to the massless conformally coupled scalar field, there exist an unique Bunch-Davies vacuum state for quantum field theory in the de Sitter space time. In the de Sitter ambient space formalism one can show that the massless fields with spin $s\geq 1$ are gauge invariant. By coupling the massless gauge spin-$2$ an…
Two important problems in studying the quantum black hole, namely the construction of the Hilbert space and the definition of the time evolution operator on such Hilbert space, are discussed using the de Sitter background field method for an observer far from the black hole. This is achieved through the ambient space formalism. Remarkably, in this approximation (distant observer), the theory preserves unitarity and analyticity, it is free from any infrared divergence, and it renders a quantum black hole entropy that turns out to be finite.
Quantum field theory in the $4$-dimensional de Sitter space-time is constructed in the ambient space formalism in a rigorous mathematical framework. This work is based on the group representation theory and the analyticity of the complexified pseudo-Riemannian manifolds. The unitary irreducible representations of de Sitter group and their corresponding Hilbert spaces are reformulated in the ambient space formalism. Defining the creation and annihilation operators, quantum field operators and their corresponding analytic two-point functions for various spin fields have been constructed. The var…
Recalling the universal covering group of de Sitter, the transformation properties of the spinor fields $ψ(x)$ and ${\barψ}(x)$, in the ambient space notation, are presented in this paper. The charge conjugation symmetry of the de Sitter spinor field is then discussed in the above notation. Using this spinor field and charge conjugation, de Sitter supersymmetry algebra in the ambient space notation has been established. It is shown that a novel dS-superalgebra can be attained by the use of spinor field and charge conjugation in the ambient space notation.
In de Sitter ambient space formalism, the massless minimally coupled scalar field can be constructed from a massless conformally coupled scalar field and a constant five-vector $A^α$. Also, a constant five-vector $B^α$ appears in the interaction Lagrangian of massless minimally coupled scalar and spinor fields in this formalism. These constant five-vector fields can be fixed in the interaction case in the null curvature limit. Here we will calculate the $\cal S$ matrix elements of scalar-spinor fields interaction in the tree level approximation. Then the constant five-vectors $A^α$ and $B^α$, …
Vanishing of the Fefferman-Graham obstruction tensor was used by Andersson and Chru{ś}ciel to show stability of the asymptotically de Sitter spaces in even dimensions. However, existing proofs of hyperbolicity of this equation contain gaps. We show in this paper that it is indeed a well-posed hyperbolic system with unique up to diffeomorphism and conformal transformations smooth development for smooth Cauchy data. Our method applies also to equations defined by various versions Graham-Jenne-Mason-Sparling operators. In particular, we use one of these operators to propagate Gover's condition of…
We refine and analytically prove an old proposition due to Calabi and Markus on the shape of timelike geodesics of anti--de Sitter space in the ambient flat space. We prove that each timelike geodesic forms in the ambient space a circle of the radius determined by $Λ$, lying on a Euclidean two--plane. Then we outline an alternative proof for $AdS_4$. We also make a comment on the shape of timelike geodesics in de Sitter space.
Conformally invariant wave equations in de Sitter space, for scalar and vector fields, are introduced in the present paper. Solutions of their wave equations and the related two-point functions, in the ambient space notation, have been calculated. The ``Hilbert'' space structure and the field operator, in terms of coordinate independent de Sitter plane waves, have been defined. The construction of the paper is based on the analyticity in the complexified pseudo-Riemanian manifold, presented first by Bros et al.. Minkowskian limits of these functions are analyzed. The relation between the ambie…
We consider the massless minimally coupled scalar field in the de Sitter ambient space formalism as a gauge potential or connection field. We construct the scalar gauge theory by helping an arbitrary constant five-vector field $B^α$ analogous to the standard gauge theory. The Lagrangian density of the interaction between the scalar and spinor fields is presented in this framework. The Yukawa potential can be extracted from this Lagrangian density at the null curvature limit by an appropriate choice of a constant five-vector field. It is shown that the de Sitter ambient space formalism permits …
The Hamiltonian formalism of Einstein--Cartan (EC) gravity is a starting point for canonical quantum gravity. The existing formalisms are at most Lorentz covariant, or diffeomorphism covariant. Here we analyze the Hamiltonian EC gravity in a 5d covariant way, with the gauge group being the de Sitter (dS) group, which unifies the Lorentz transformations and translation in an elegant manner, and also coincides with the acceleration of the universe. We reformulate the EC equations into a dS-covariant form, then find out the dS-covariant constraints of the phase space, and make all the constraint …
We present the quantum Yang-Mills theory in the four-dimensional de Sitter ambient space formalism. In accordance with the SU$(3)$ gauge symmetry the interaction Lagrangian is formulated in terms of interacting color charged fields in curved space-time. The gauge-invariant field equations are obtained in an independent coordinate description, and their corresponding color conserved currents are computed. Faddeev-Popov ghost fields are shown to be equivalent to their Minkowski counterparts. We obtain that the free ghost fields are massless minimally coupled scalar fields. The problems of the va…
The scalar-spinor interaction Lagrangian is presented by the Yukawa potential. In dS ambient space formalism, the interaction Lagrangian of scalar-spinor fields was obtained from a new transformation which is very similar to the guage theory. The interaction of massless minimally coupled scalar and spinor fields was investigated. The Minkowski limit of the massless minimally coupled scalar field and massive spinor field interaction in the ambient space formalism of de Sitter space time is calculated. The interaction Lagrangian and massless minimally coupled scalar field in the null curvature l…
Discrete symmetries, parity, time reversal, antipodal, and charge conjugation transformations for spinor field in de Sitter space, are presented in the ambient space notation, i.e. in a coordinate independent way. The PT and PCT transformations are also discussed in this notation. The five-current density is studied and their transformation under the discrete symmetries is discussed.
A frame work has been presented for theoretical interpretation of various modified gravitational models which is based on the group theoretical approach and unitary irreducible representations (UIR's) of de Sitter (dS) group. In order to illustrate the application of the proposed method, a model of modified gravity has been investigated. The background field method has been utilized and the linearized modified gravitational field equation has been obtained in the 4-dimensional dS space-time as the background. The field equation has been written as the eigne-value equation of the Casimir operat…
In de Sitter ambient space formalism, the linear gravity can be written in terms of a minimally coupled scalar field and a polarization tensor. In this formalism, the massless minimally coupled scalar field can be quantized on Bunch-Davies vacuum state, that preserves the de Sitter invariance, the analyticity and removes the infrared divergence. The de Sitter quantum linear gravity is then constructed on Bunch-Davies vacuum state, which is also covariant, analytic and free of any infrared divergences. We will conclude that the unique Bunch-Davies vacuum state can be used adequately to construc…
The Gupta-Bleuler triplet for vector-spinor gauge field is presented in de Sitter ambient space formalism. The invariant space of field equation solutions is obtained with respect to an indecomposable representation of the de Sitter group. By using the general solution of the massless spin-$\frac{3}{2}$ field equation, the vector-spinor quantum field operator and its corresponding Fock space is constructed. The quantum field operator can be written in terms of the vector-spinor polarization states and a quantum conformally coupled massless scalar field, which is constructed on Bunch-Davies vac…
We investigate when effective theories of a scalar field on (quasi-)de Sitter background break down through the stochastic formalism. We derive the Fokker-Planck equation leaving the second order time derivative of the scalar field. Assuming there exists an equilibrium distribution for the field velocity, we obtain a mean value and a variance of the field velocity caused by the quantum fluctuation. Introducing coarse-grained Einstein equations, we obtain bounds for the non-eternal inflation phase and for maintaining the exact de Sitter background. We point out that those bounds derived in our …
The massless minimally coupled scalar field in de Sitter ambient space formalism might play a similar role to what the Higgs scalar field accomplishes within the electroweak standard model. With the introduction of a "local transformation" for this field, the interaction Lagrangian between the scalar field and the spinor field can be made similar to a gauge theory. In the null curvature limit, the Yukawa potential can be constructed from that Lagrangian. Finally the one-loop correction of the scalar-spinor interaction is presented, which is free of any infrared divergence.
We develop a nonperturbative quantum scalar field formalism from a noncompact Kaluza-Klein (KK) theory using the induced-matter theory of gravity during inflation. We study the particular case of a de Sitter expansion for the universe.
We propose to compute the action and global charges of the asymptotically de Sitter solutions in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory by using the counterterms method in conjunction with the quasilocal formalism. The general expression of the counterterms and the boundary stress tensor is presented for spacetimes of dimension $d\leq 7$. We apply this tehnique for several different solutions in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet theory with a positive cosmological constant. Apart from known solutions, we consider also $d=5$ vacuum rotating black holes with equal magnitude angular momenta.
The quantum states or Hilbert spaces for the quantum field theory in de Sitter space-time are studied on ambient space formalism. In this formalism, the quantum states are only depended $(1)$ on the topological character of the de Sitter space-time, {\it i.e.} $\R \times S^3$, and $(2)$ on the homogeneous spaces which are used for construction of the unitary irreducible representation of de Sitter group. A compact homogeneous space is chosen in this paper. The unique feature of this homogeneous space is that its total number of quantum states, ${\cal N}$, is finite although the Hilbert space h…
Quantization of spinor and vector free fields in 4-dimensional de Sitter space-time, in the ambient space notation, has been studied in the previous works. Various two-points functions for the above fields are presented in this paper. The interaction between the spinor field and the vector field is then studied by the abelian gauge theory. The U(1) gauge invariant spinor field equation is obtained in a coordinate independent way notation and their corresponding conserved currents are computed. The solution of the field equation is obtained by use of the perturbation method in terms of the Gree…
''Massless'' spin-2 field equation in de Sitter space, which is invariant under the conformal transformation, has been obtained. The frame work utilized is the symmetric rank-2 tensor field of the conformal group. Our method is based on the group theoretical approach and six-cone formalism, initially introduced by Dirac. Dirac's six-cone is used to obtain conformally invariant equations on de Sitter space. The solution of the physical sector of massless spin-2 field (linear gravity) in de Sitter ambient space is written as a product of a generalized polarization tensor and a massless minimally…
The aim of this manuscript is to review the studies about de Sitter solution and the null infinity of asymptotically flat and de Sitter space-times. Thus, after introducing the de Sitter space-time, the symmetry group is described. Also precise definitions of asymptotically flat and de Sitter space-times are reviewed. Henceforth, the null infinities and the asymptotic symmetry groups of these two space-times are considered, which lead to the Fefferman-Graham approach and the Penrose-Newman formalism.
We obtain dS and AdS generalized Reissner-Nordstrom like black hole geometries in a curved D3-brane frame-work, underlying a noncommutative gauge theory on the brane-world. The noncommutative scaling limit is explored to investigate a possible tunneling of an AdS vacuum in string theory to dS vacuum in its low energy gravity theory. The Hagedorn transition is invoked into its self-dual gauge theory to decouple the gauge nonlinearity from the dS geometry, which in turn is shown to describe a pure dS vacuum.
We construct a simple algorithm to derive number density of spin 1/2 particles created in spatially flat FLRW spacetimes and resulting renormalized energy-momentum tensor within the framework of adiabatic regularization. Physical quantities thus found are in agreement with the known results. This formalism can be considered as an appropriate extension of the techniques originally introduced for scalar fields, applicable to fermions in curved space. We apply this formalism to compute the particle number density and the renormalized energy density and pressure analytically (wherever possible) an…
Respecting the group theoretical approach, it is debated that the theory of linear conformal gravity should be formulated through a tensor field of rank-3 and mixed symmetry \cite{binegar}. Pursuing this path, such a field equation was obtained in de Sitter space \cite{takook}. In present work, considering the de Sitter ambient space notation, a proper solution to the physical part of this field equation is obtained. We have also calculated the related two-point function, which is interestingly de Sitter invariant and free of infrared divergence.
We study the relation between two sets of correlators in interacting quantum field theory on de Sitter space. The first are correlators computed using in-in perturbation theory in the expanding cosmological patch of de Sitter space (also known as the conformal patch, or the Poincaré patch), and for which the free propagators are taken to be those of the free Euclidean vacuum. The second are correlators obtained by analytic continuation from Euclidean de Sitter; i.e., they are correlators in the fully interacting Hartle-Hawking state. We give an analytic argument that these correlators coincide…
The stochastic spectral expansion method offers a simple framework for calculations in de Sitter spacetimes. We show how to extend its reach to metastable vacuum states, both in the case when the potential is bounded from below, and when it is unbounded from below and therefore no stable vacuum state exists. In both cases, the decay rate of the metastable vacuum is given by the lowest non-zero eigenvalue associated to the Fokker-Planck equation. We show how the corresponding eigenfunction determines the field probability distribution which can be used to compute correlation functions and other…
We study the theory of interaction between charged scalar field and Maxwell field in de Sitter background. Solving the equation of interacting fields we define the in-out fields as asymptotic free fields and construct the reduction formalism for scalar field. Then we derive the perturbation expansion of the scattering operator. The first order transition amplitudes corresponding to particle production from de Sitter vacuum and pair production in an external field are analysed. We show that all these effects are important only in strong gravitational fields and vanish in the flat limit.
In this paper, the linearized field equations related to the quadratic curvature gravity theory have been obtained in the four-dimensional de Sitter (dS) space-time. The massless spin-2 field equations have been written in terms of the Casimir operators of dS group making use of the ambient space notations. By imposing some simple constraints, arisen from group theoretical interpretation of the field equations, a new four-dimensional Gauss-Bonnet (GB)-like action has been introduced with the related field equations transforming according to the unitary irreducible representations (UIR's) of dS…
We study the phi^4 scalar field theory in de Sitter space using the 2PI effective action formalism. This formalism enables us to investigate the nonperturbative quantum effects. We use the mean field and gap equations and calculate the physical mass and effective potential. We find that nonperturbative infrared effects on de Sitter space produce a curvature-induced mass and work to restore the broken Z_2 symmetry.
Several versions of fuzzy four-dimensional de Sitter space are constructed using the noncommutative frame formalism. Although all noncommutative spacetimes which are found have commutative de Sitter metric as a classical limit, the algebras and the differential calculi which define them have many differences which we derive and discuss.
In this paper, the two-point function of linearized gravitons on de Sitter (dS) space is presented. Technically, respecting the dS ambient space notation, the field equation is given by the coordinate-independent Casimir operators of the de Sitter group. Analogous to the quantization of the electromagnetic field in Minkowski space, the field equation admits gauge solutions. The notation allows us to exhibit the formalism of Gupta-Bleuler triplets for the present field in exactly the same manner as it occurs for the electromagnetic field. In this regard, centering on the spin-two part (the trac…
Generalizing to relativistic exponential scaling and using the theory of noise from quantum fluctuations, it has been shown that one vacuum (Rindler, Hartle-Hawking, or Gibbons-Hawking for the cases of the uniformly accelerated detector, black hole, and de-Sitter universe, respectively) can be understood as resulting from the scaling of quantum noise in another vacuum. We explore this idea more generally to establish a flat spacetime and curved spacetime analogy. For this purpose, we start by examining noise kernels for free fields in some well-known curved spacetimes, e.g., the spacetime of a…
We revisit the Hamiltonian formalism for a massive scalar field and study the particle production in a de Sitter space. In the invariant-operator picture the time-dependent annihilation and creation operators are constructed in terms of a complex solution to the classical equation of motion for the field and the Gaussian wave function for each Fourier mode is found which is an exact solution to the Schrödinger equation. The in-out formalism is reformulated by the annihilation and creation operators and the Gaussian wave functions. The de Sitter radiation from the in-out formalism differs from …
The formulation of gravity theory is considered where space-time is a 4-dimensional surface in flat ten-dimensional space. The possibility of using the "external" time (the time of ambient space) in this approach is investigated. The transition to the "external" time is realized with the help of partial gauge fixing, the coordinate condition which equates the timelike coordinate of the surface and time of the ambient space. It is shown that by using such a gauge condition in the action, the loss of any equations of motion does not take place, although it can happen in the general case. A versi…
The temperature associated with gravitation as presented in the Unruh effect and Hawking temperature serves to link different areas of physics, such as gravity, statistical mechanics, and quantum physics. In this paper, teleparallel gravity is considered to study temperature effects on the de Sitter space-time. The effects of temperature are introduced using the Thermo Field Dynamics (TFD) formalism. The gravitational Stefan-Boltzmann law is obtained. Then the temperature of gravitation in the de Sitter space-time is calculated. Here an Unruh-type effect is discussed. This effect relates the t…
Recently in \cite{Anderson:2013zia, Anderson:2013ila}, it was shown that global de Sitter space is unstable even to the massive particle creation with no self-interactions. In this paper we study the instability by making use of the coordinate-independent plane wave in de Sitter space, within this formalism, we show that the previous results of instability of de Sitter space due to the particle creation can be generalized to higher-spin fields in a straightforward way. The so-called plane wave are defined globally in de Sitter space and de Sitter invariance is manifest since such modes are ded…
This work deals with braneworld scenarios in the presence of real scalar field with standard dynamics. We show that the first-order formalism, which exists in the case of flat brane, can be extended to bent brane, for both de Sitter and anti-de Sitter geometry. We illustrate the results with some examples of current interest to high energy physics.
We present in this paper a fully covariant quantization of the minimally-coupled massless field on de Sitter space. We thus obtain a formalism free of any infrared (e.g logarithmic) divergence. Our method is based on a rigorous group theoretical approach combined with a suitable adaptation (Krein spaces) of the Wightman-Gärding axiomatic for massless fields (Gupta-Bleuler scheme). We make explicit the correspondence between unitary irreducible representations of the de Sitter group and the field theory on de Sitter space-time. The minimally-coupled massless field is associated with a represent…
Respecting that any consistent quantum field theory in curved space-time must include black hole radiation, in this paper, we examine the Krein-Gupta-Bleuler (KGB) formalism as an inevitable quantization scheme in order to follow the guideline of the covariance of minimally coupled massless scalar field and linear gravity on de Sitter (dS) background in the sense of Wightman-Gärding approach, by investigating thermodynamical aspects of black holes. The formalism is interestingly free of pathological large distance behavior. In this construction, also, no infinite term appears in the calculatio…
We construct the Wightman function for symmetric traceless tensors and Dirac fermions in dS$_{d+1}$ in a coordinate and index free formalism using a $d+2$ dimensional ambient space. We expand the embedding space formalism to cover spinor and tensor fields in any even or odd dimension. Our goal is to furnish a self-contained toolkit for the study of fields of arbitrary spin in de Sitter, with applications to cosmological perturbation theory. The construction for spinors is shown in extensive detail. Concise expressions for the action of isometry generators on generic bulk fields, the 2-point fu…
The 3+1 formalism of Thorne and Macdonald has been used to derive the linear two-fluid equations for transverse waves in the plasma closed to the Schwarzschild-anti-de Sitter (SAdS) black hole. We reformulate the relativistic two-fluid equations to take account of gravitational effects due to the event horizon and negative cosmological constant and describe the set of simultaneous linear equations for the perturbations. Using a local approximation we investigate the one-dimensional radial propagation of Alfven and high frequency electromagnetic waves. We derive the dispersion relation for thes…
In this study, we formulate a systematic way of deriving an effective equation of motion(EoM) for long wavelength modes of a massless scalar field with a general potential $V(ϕ)$ on de Sitter background, and investigate whether or not the effective EoM can be described as a classical stochastic process. Our formulation gives an extension of the usual stochastic formalism to including sub-leading secular growth coming from the nonlinearity of short wavelength modes. Applying our formalism to $λϕ^4$ theory, we explicitly derive an effective EoM which correctly recovers the next-to-leading secula…
The Laplace-de Rham operator acting on a one-form $a$: $\square a$, in $\mathbb{R}^{n+2}$ or $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ spaces is restricted to $n$-dimensional pseudo-spheres. This includes, in particular, the $n$-dimensional de Sitter and Anti-de Sitter space-times. The restriction is designed to extract the corresponding $n$-dimensional Laplace-de Rham operator acting on the corresponding $n$-dimensional one-form on pseudo-spheres. Explicit formulas relating these two operators are given in each situation. The converse problem, of extending an $n$-dimensional operator composed of the sum of the Lapl…
