It is shown that a simple closed curve in $\mathbb C^n$ that is a uniform limit of rectifiable simple closed curves each of which has nontrivial polynomial hull has itself nontrivial polynomial hull. In case the limit curve is rectifiable, the hull of the limit is shown to be the limit of the hulls. It is also shown that every rectifiable simple closed curve in $\mathbb C^n$, $n\geq 2$, can be approximated in total variation norm by a polynomially convex, rectifiable simple closed curve that coincides with the original curve except on an arbitrarily small segment. As a corollary, it is shown that every rectifiable arc in $\mathbb C^n$, $n\geq 2$, is contained in a polynomially convex, rectifiable simple closed curve.

Polynomial Hulls of Arcs and Curves II

We prove that if a compact set E in complex Euclidean space is contained in an arc J, then there is a choice of J whose polynomial hull is the union of J and the polynomial hull of E. This strengthens an earlier result of the author. We also correct an inaccuracy in the statement, and fill a gap in the proof, of that earlier result.

Pluripolar hulls and convergence sets

Polynomial Hulls of Arcs and Curves

It is shown that there exist arcs and simple closed curves in ${\mathbb C}^3$ with nontrivial polynomial hulls that contain no analytic discs. It is also shown that in any bounded Runge domain of holomorphy in ${\mathbb C}^N$ ($N \geq 2$) there exist polynomially convex arcs and simple closed curves of almost full measure. These results, which strengthen earlier results of the author, are obtained as consequences of a general result about polynomial hulls of arcs and simple closed curves through Cantor sets.

On the continuity of half-plane capacity with respect to Carathéodory convergence

We study the continuity of half-plane capacity as a function of boundary hulls with respect to the Carathéodory convergence. In particular, our interest lies in the case that hulls are unbounded. Under the assumption that every hull is contained in a fixed hull with finite imaginary part and finite half-plane capacity, we show that the half-plane capacity is indeed continuous. We also discuss the extension of this result to the case that the underlying domain is finitely connected.

Polynomially convex sets whose union has nontrivial hull

Several results concerning pairs of polynomially convex sets whose union is not even rationally convex are given. It is shown that there is no restriction on how two spaces can be embedded in some $\C^N$ so as to be polynomially convex but have nonrationally convex union. Spaces with polynomial hulls that contain no analytic discs

Extensions of the notions of polynomially and rationally convex hulls are introduced. Using these notions, a generalization of a result of Duval and Levenberg on polynomially convex hulls containing no analytic discs is presented. As a consequence it is shown that there exists a Cantor set $X$ in ${\mathbb C}^3$ with a nontrivial polynomially convex hull that contains no analytic discs. Using this Cantor set, it is shown that there exist arcs and curves in ${\mathbb C}^4$ with nontrivial polynomially convex hulls that contain no analytic discs. Effect of Random Time Changes on Loewner Hulls

Loewner hulls are determined by their real-valued driving functions. We study the geometric effect on the Loewner hulls when the driving function is composed with a random time change, such as the inverse of an $α$-stable subordinator.
