This paper is one in a series that investigates topological measures on locally compact spaces. A topological measure is a set function which is finitely additive on the collection of open and compact sets, inner regular on open sets, and outer regular on closed sets. We examine semisolid sets and give a way of constructing topological measures from solid-set functions on locally compact, connected, locally connected spaces. For compact spaces our approach produces a simpler method than the current one. We give examples of finite and infinite topological measures on locally compact spaces and present an easy way to generate topological measures on spaces whose one-point compactification has genus 0. Results of this paper are necessary for various methods for constructing topological measures, give additional properties of topological measures, and provide a tool for determining whether two topological measures or quasi-linear functionals are the same.
In this paper, we introduce the topological structure of fuzzy parametrized soft sets and fuzzy parametrized soft mappings. We define the notion of quasi-coincidence for fuzzy parametrized soft sets and investigated basic properties of it. We study the closure, interior, base, continuity and compactness and properties of these concepts in fuzzy parametrized soft topological spaces
This paper introduces semiopen and semiclosed soft sets in soft topological spaces. The notions of interior and closure are generalized using these sets. A detail study is carried out on properties of semiopen, semiclosed soft sets, semi interior and semi closure of a soft set in a soft topological space. Various forms of soft functions, like semicontinuous, irresolute, semiopen soft functions are introduced and characterized. Further soft semicompactness, soft semiconnectedness and soft semiseparation axioms are introduced and studied.
In this paper, we have established boundaries of cardinal numbers of nonempty sets in finite non-$T_1$ topological spaces using interval analysis. For a finite set with known cardinality, we give interval estimations based on the closure and interior of the set. In this paper, we give new results for the cardinalities of non-empty semi-open sets in non-$T_1$ topological spaces as well as in extremely disconnected and hyperconnected topological spaces.
This paper covers some recent progress in the study of sg-open sets, sg-compact spaces, N-scattered spaces and some related concepts. A subset $A$ of a topological space $(X,τ)$ is called sg-closed if the semi-closure of $A$ is included in every semi-open superset of $A$. Complements of sg-closed sets are called sg-open. A topological space $(X,τ)$ is called sg-compact if every cover of $X$ by sg-open sets has a finite subcover. N-scattered space is a topological spaces in which every nowhere dense subset is scattered.
In this paper, we continue studying the properties of $γ^{*}$-semi-open sets in topological spaces introduced by S. Hussain, B. Ahmad and T. Noiri[8]. We also introduce and discuss the $γ^{*}$-semi-continuous functions which generalize semi-continuous functions defined by N. Levine [10].
We show that if a topological or paratopological group $G$ contains a stationary subset of some regular uncountable cardinal, then $G$ contains a subspace which is not collectionwise normal. This statement implies that if a monotonically normal space (in particular, any generalized ordered space) is a paratopological group then the space is hereditarily paracompact.
In this paper, we characterize infinite-dimensional manifolds modeled on absorbing sets in non-separable Hilbert spaces by using the discrete cells property, which is a general position property. Moreover, we study the discrete (locally finite) approximation property, which is an extension of the discrete cells property.
Based on topological Rudin's Lemma, we investigate two new kinds of sets - Rudin sets and well-filtered determined sets in $T_0$ topological spaces. Using such sets, we formulate and prove some new characterizations for well-filtered spaces and sober spaces. Part of the work was inspired by Xi and Lawson's work on well-filtered spaces. Our study also lead to a new class of spaces - strong $d$-spaces and some problems whose solutions will strengthen our understanding of the related structures.
A topological measure on a locally compact space is a set function on open and closed subsets which is finitely additive on the collection of open and compact sets, inner regular on open sets, and outer regular on closed sets. Almost all works devoted to topological measures, corresponding non-linear functionals, and their applications deal with compact spaces. The present paper is one in a series that investigates topological measures and corresponding non-linear functionals on locally compact spaces. Here we examine solid and semi-solid sets on a locally compact space. We then give a method …
Let ${\rm Fin}(X)$ be the hyperspace consisting of non-empty finite subsets of a space $X$ endowed with the Vietoris topology. In this paper, we characterize a metrizable space $X$ whose hyperspace ${\rm Fin}(X)$ is homeomorphic to the linear subspace spanned by the canonical orthonormal basis of a non-separable Hilbert space.
This note generalizes Berge's maximum theorem to noncompact image sets. It is also clarifies the results from E.A. Feinberg, P.O. Kasyanov, N.V. Zadoianchuk, "Berge's theorem for noncompact image sets," J. Math. Anal. Appl. 397(1)(2013), pp. 255-259 on the extension to noncompact image sets of another Berge's theorem, that states semi-continuity of value functions. Here we explain that the notion of a $\K$-inf-compact function introduced there is applicable to metrizable topological spaces and to more general compactly generated topological spaces. For Hausdorff topological spaces we introduce…
Given a finite subset $Σ\subset\mathbb{R}$ and a positive real number $q<1$ we study topological and measure-theoretic properties of the self-similar set $K(Σ;q)=\big\{\sum_{n=0}^\infty a_nq^n:(a_n)_{n\inω}\inΣ^ω\big\}$, which is the unique compact solution of the equation $K=Σ+qK$. The obtained results are applied to studying partial sumsets $E(x)=\big\{\sum_{n=0}^\infty x_n\varepsilon_n:(\varepsilon_n)_{n\inω}\in\{0,1\}^ω\big\}$ of some (multigeometric) sequences $x=(x_n)_{n\inω}$.
In this article, we consider $\mathcal{I}^\mathcal{K}$-convergence to define a new concept of convergence namely, $\mathcal{S}$-$\mathcal{I}^\mathcal{K}$-convergence which generalizes the notion of $\mathcal{S}$-$\mathcal{I}$-convergence introduced by Guevara et al. \cite{GSR20} recently. Some properties of $\mathcal{S}$-$\mathcal{I}^\mathcal{K}$-convergence of sequences and its relation with compact sets are discussed. In particular, we investigate the relation between semi-compactness and semi-Lindeloffness by introducing the notion of $\mathcal{S}$-$\mathcal{I}^\mathcal{K}$-cluster point of…
It is a simple fact that a subgroup generated by a subset $A$ of an abelian group is the direct sum of the cyclic groups $\langle a\rangle$, $a\in A$ if and only if the set $A$ is independent. In [5] the concept of an $independent$ set in an abelian group was generalized to a $topologically$ $independent$ $set$ in a topological abelian group (these two notions coincide in discrete abelian groups). It was proved that a topological subgroup generated by a subset $A$ of an abelian topological group is the Tychonoff direct sum of the cyclic topological groups $\langle a\rangle$, $a\in A$ if and on…
In this article, we investigate some properties of the coincidence point set of digitally continuous maps. Following the Rosenfeld graphical model which seems more combinatorial than topological, we expect to achieve results that might not be analogous to the classical topological fixed point theory. We also introduce and study some topological invariants related to the coincidence and common fixed point sets for continuous maps on a digital image. Moreover, we study how these coincidence point sets are affected by rigidity and deformation retraction. Lastly, we present briefly a concept of di…
This paper studies topological definitions of chain recurrence and shadowing for continuous endomorphisms of topological groups generalizing the relevant concepts for metric spaces. It is proved that in this case the sets of chain recurrent points and chain transitive component of the identity are topological subgroups. Furthermore, it is obtained that some dynamical properties induced by the original system on quotient spaces. These results link an algebraic property to a dynamical property.
First of all, we focused soft β-open sets and soft β-closed sets over the soft topological space and investigated some properties of them. Secondly, we defined the concepts soft β-continuity, soft β-irresolute and soft β-homeomorphism on soft topological spaces. We also obtained some characterizations of these mappings. Finally, we observed that the collection Sβr-h(X,τ,E) was a soft group.
The aim of this note is to show that every subset of a given topological space is the intersection of a preopen and a preclosed set, therefore $β$-locally closed, and that every topological space is $β$-submaximal.
We construct a continuum of non-homeomorphic compact subspaces of the real line R without singleton components. Thus from the purely topological point of view the real line contains not only more closed sets than open sets but also more closures of open sets than open sets. On the other hand, we show that this discrepancy vanishes either if the topological point of view is sharpened in the metrical or in the order-theoretical direction, or if R is replaced with R^n for dimension n>1. Furthermore, we track down a continuum of topological types of closed and totally disconnected subsets of R. In…
A discrete subset $S$ of a topological gyrogroup $G$ with the identity $0$ is said to be a {\it suitable set} for $G$ if it generates a dense subgyrogroup of $G$ and $S\cup \{0\}$ is closed in $G$. In this paper, it was proved that each countable Hausdorff topological gyrogroup has a suitable set; moreover, it is shown that each separable metrizable strongly topological gyrogroup has a suitable set.
For an upper semi-continuous set-valued mapping from one topological space to another and for a lower semi-continuous function defined on the product of these spaces, Berge's theorem states lower semi-continuity of the minimum of this function taken over the image sets. It assumes that the image sets are compact. For Hausdorff topological spaces, this paper extends Berge's theorem to set-valued mappings with possible noncompact image sets and studies relevant properties of minima.
We use convergence theory as the framework for studying H-closed spaces and H-sets in topological spaces. From this viewpoint, it becomes clear that the property of being H-closed and the property of being an H-set in a topological space are pretopological notions. Additionally, we define a version of H-closedness for pretopological spaces and investigate the properties of such a space.
This article has been withdrawn in 2013. The class of LOTS (linearly ordered topological spaces) contains many important spaces, like the set of real numbers, the set of rational numbers and the ordinals. Such spaces have rich topological properties, which are not necessarily hereditary.
We give a characterization of countable discrete subspace $A$ of a topological space $X$ such that there exists a (linear) continuous mapping $φ:C_p^*(A)\to C_p(X)$ with $φ(y)|_A=y$ for every $y\in C_p^*(A)$. Using this characterization we answer two questions of A.~Arhangel'skii. Moreover, we introduce the notion of well-covered subset of a topological space and prove that for well-covered functionally closed subset $A$ of a topological space $X$ there exists a linear continuous mapping $φ:C_p(A)\to C_p(X)$ with $φ(y)|_A=y$ for every $y\in C_p(A)$.
In 1999, Molodtsov initiated the concept of Soft Sets Theory as a new mathematical tool and a completely different approach for dealing with uncertainties in many fields of applied sciences. In 2011, Shabir and Naz introduced and studied the theory of soft topological spaces, also defining and investigating many new soft properties as generalization of the classical ones. In this paper, we introduce the notions of soft separation between soft points and soft closed sets in order to obtain a generalization of the well-known Embedding Lemma for soft topological spaces.
This paper has two parts. First, we recall and detail the definition of the Grothendieck topos of a connectivity space, that is the topos of sheaves on such a space. In the second part, we prove that every finite connectivity space is Morita-equivalent to a finite topological space, and vice versa (we have given this proof in several, but we haven't yet shared this in writing).

Topological measures and quasi-linear functionals generalize measures and linear functionals. We define and study deficient topological measures on locally compact spaces. A deficient topological measure on a locally compact space is a set function on open and closed subsets which is finitely additive on compact sets, inner regular on open sets, and outer regular on closed sets. Deficient topological measures generalize measures and topological measures. First we investigate positive, negative, and total variation of a signed set function that is only assumed to be finitely additive on compact…
We study directed sets definable in o-minimal structures, showing that in expansions of ordered fields these admit cofinal definable curves, as well as a suitable analogue in expansions of ordered groups, and furthermore that no analogue holds in full generality. We use the theory of tame pairs to extend the results in the field case to definable families of sets with the finite intersection property. We then apply our results to the study of definable topologies. We prove that all definable topological spaces display properties akin to first countability, and give several characterizations of…
We prove that the meandering set for $f_a(z)=e^z+a$ is homeomorphic to the space of irrational numbers whenever $a$ belongs to the Fatou set of $f_a$. This extends recent results by Vasiliki Evdoridou and Lasse Rempe. It implies that the radial Julia set of $f_a$ has topological dimension zero for all attracting and parabolic parameters, including all $a\in (-\infty,-1]$. Similar results are obtained for Fatou's function $f(z)=z+1+e^{-z}$.
A convex subset X of a linear topological space is called compactly convex if there is a continuous compact-valued map $Φ:X\to exp(X)$ such that $[x,y]\subsetΦ(x)\cup Φ(y)$ for all $x,y\in X$. We prove that each convex subset of the plane is compactly convex. On the other hand, the space $R^3$ contains a convex set that is not compactly convex. Each compactly convex subset $X$ of a linear topological space $L$ has locally compact closure $\bar X$ which is metrizable if and only if each compact subset of $X$ is metrizable.
The omega limit sets plays a fundamental role to construct global attractors for topological semi-dynamical systems with continuous time or discrete time. Therefore, it is important to know when omega limit sets become nonempty compact sets. The purpose of this paper is to understand the mechanism under which a given net of subsets of topological spaces is compact in the asymptotic sense. For this purpose, we introduce the notion of asymptotic compactness for nets of subsets and study the connection with the compactness of the limit sets. In this paper, for a given net of nonempty subsets, we …
We prove that each non-separable completely metrizable convex subset of a Frechet space is homeomorphic to a Hilbert space. This resolves an old (more than 30 years) problem of infinite-dimensional topology. Combined with the topological classification of separable convex sets due to Klee, Dobrowoslki and Torunczyk, this result implies that each closed convex subset of a Frechet space is homemorphic to $[0,1]^n\times [0,1)^m\times l_2(k)$ for some cardinals $0\le n\leω$, $0\le m\le 1$ and $k\ge 0$.
We extend Følner's amenability criterion to the realm of general topological groups. Building on this, we show that a topological group $G$ is amenable if and only if its left translation action can be approximated in a uniform manner by amenable actions on the set $G$. As applications we obtain a topological version of Whyte's geometric solution to the von Neumann problem and provide an affirmative answer to a question posed by Rosendal.
For an infinite cardinal $κ$ let $\ell_2(κ)$ be the linear hull of the standard othonormal base of the Hilbert space $\ell_2(κ)$ of density $κ$. We prove that a non-separable convex subset $X$ of density $κ$ in a locally convex linear metric space if homeomorphic to the space (i) $\ell_2^f(κ)$ if and only if $X$ can be written as countable union of finite-dimensional locally compact subspaces, (ii) $[0,1]^ω\times \ell_2^f(κ)$ if and only if $X$ contains a topological copy of the Hilbert cube and $X$ can be written as a countable union of locally compact subspaces.
If a discrete subset S of a topological group G with the identity 1 generates a dense subgroup of G and S \cup {1} is closed in G, then S is called a suitable set for G. We apply Michael's selection theorem to offer a direct, self-contained, purely topological proof of the result of Hofmann and Morris on the existence of suitable sets in locally compact groups. Our approach uses only elementary facts from (topological) group theory.
This paper is a contribution to understanding what properties should a topological algebra on a Stone space satisfy to be profinite. We reformulate and simplify proofs for some known properties using syntactic congruences. We also clarify the role of various alternative ways of describing syntactic congruences, namely by finite sets of terms and by compact sets of continuous self mappings of the algebra.
For a sequence $x \in l_1 \setminus c_{00}$, one can consider the set $E(x)$ of all subsums of series $\sum_{n=1}^{\infty} x(n)$. Guthrie and Nymann proved that $E(x)$ is one of the following types of sets: (I) a finite union of closed intervals; (C) homeomorphic to the Cantor set; (MC) homeomorphic to the set $T$ of subsums of $\sum_{n=1}^\infty b(n)$ where $b(2n-1) = 3/4^n$ and $b(2n) = 2/4^n$. By $I$, $C$ and $MC$ we denote the sets of all sequences $x \in l_1 \setminus c_{00}$, such that $E(x)$ has the corresponding property. In this note we show that $I$ and $C$ are strongly $\mathfrak{c}…
By the Galvin-Mycielski-Solovay theorem, a subset $X$ of the line has Borel's strong measure zero if and only if $M+X\neq\mathbb{R}$ for each meager set $M$. A set $X\subseteq\mathbb{R}$ is meager-additive if $M+X$ is meager for each meager set $M$. Recently a theorem on meager-additive sets that perfectly parallels the Galvin-Mycielski-Solovay theorem was proven: A set $X\subseteq\mathbb{R}$ is meager-additive if and only if it has sharp measure zero, a notion akin to strong measure zero. We investigate the validity of this result in Polish groups. We prove, e.g., that a set in a locally comp…
A Hausdorff topological group $(G,τ)$ is called an $s$-group and $τ$ is called an $s$-topology if there is a set $S$ of sequences in $G$ such that $τ$ is the finest Hausdorff group topology on $G$ in which every sequence of $S$ converges to the unit. The class $\mathbf{S}$ of all $s$-groups contains all sequential Hausdorff groups and it is finitely multiplicative. A quotient group of an $s$-group is an $s$-group. For a non-discrete topological group $(G,τ)$ the following three assertions are equivalent: 1) $(G,τ)$ is an $s$-group, 2) $(G,τ)$ is a quotient group of a Graev free topological gro…
We study computable topological spaces and semicomputable and computable sets in these spaces. In particular, we investigate conditions under which semicomputable sets are computable. We prove that a semicomputable compact manifold $M$ is computable if its boundary $\partial M$ is computable. We also show how this result combined with certain construction which compactifies a semicomputable set leads to the conclusion that some noncompact semicomputable manifolds in computable metric spaces are computable.
We prove that if an analytic subset $A$ of a linear metric space $X$ is not contained in a $σZ_ω$-subset of $X$ then for every Polish convex set $K$ with dense affine hull in $X$ the sum $A+K$ is non-meager in $X$ and the sets $A+A+K$ and $A-A+K$ have non-empty interior in the completion $\bar X$ of $X$. This implies two results: (i) an analytic subgroup $A$ of a linear metric space $X$ is a $σZ_ω$-space if $A$ is not Polish and $A$ contains a Polish convex set $K$ with dense affine hull in $X$; (ii) a dense convex analytic subset $A$ of a linear metric space $X$ is a $σZ_ω$-space if $A$ conta…
In a power system, the load demand considers two components such as the real power (P) because of resistive elements, and the reactive power (Q) because inductive or capacitive elements. This paper presents a graphical representation of the electric power demand based on the topological properties of the Julia Sets, with the purpose of observing the different graphic patterns and relationship with the hourly load consumptions. An algorithm that iterates complex numbers related to power is used to represent each fractal diagram of the load demand. The results show some representative patterns r…
