We study lattice two-color QCD (QC$_2$D) with two flavors of staggered fermions at imaginary and real quark chemical potential $μ_q$ and $T>T_c$. We employ various methods of extrapolation of the quark number density from imaginary to real quark chemical potentials $μ_q$, including series expansions as well as analytic continuation based on phenomenological models, and study their accuracy by comparing the results to the lattice data. Below the Roberge-Weiss temperature, $T<T_{RW}$, we find that the cluster expansion model provides an accurate analytic continuation of the baryon number density in the studied range of chemical potentials. On the other hand, the behavior of the reconstructed canonical partition functions indicates that the available models may require corrections at high quark densities. At $T>T_{RW}$ we show that the analytic continuation to the real values of $μ_q$ based on trigonometric functions works equally well with the conventional method based on the Taylor expansion in powers of $μ_q$.
We discuss results for the Roberge Weiss (RW) phase transition at nonzero imaginary baryon and isospin chemical potentials, in the plane of temperature and quark masses. Our study focuses on the light tricritical endpoint which has already been used as a starting point for extrapolations aiming at the chiral limit at vanishing chemical potentials. In particular, we are interested in determining how imaginary isospin chemical potential shifts the tricritical mass with respect to earlier studies at zero imaginary isospin chemical potential. A positive shift might allow one to perform the chiral …
The so-called Columbia plot summarises the order of the QCD thermal transition as a function of the number of quark flavours and their masses. Recently, it was demonstrated that the first-order chiral transition region, as seen for $N_f \in [ 3,6 ]$ on coarse lattices, exhibits tricritical scaling while extrapolating to zero on sufficiently fine lattices. Here we extend these studies to imaginary baryon chemical potential. A similar shrinking of the first-order region is observed with decreasing lattice spacing, which again appears compatible with a tricritical extrapolation to zero.
Imaginary chemical potentials serve as a useful tool to constrain the QCD phase diagram and to gain insight into the thermodynamics of strongly interacting matter. In this study, we report on the first determination of the phase diagram for arbitrary imaginary baryon and isospin chemical potentials at high temperature using one-loop perturbation theory, revealing a nontrivial structure of Roberge-Weiss (RW) phase transitions in this plane. Subsequently, this system is simulated numerically with $N_{\rm f}=2$ unimproved staggered quarks on $N_τ=4$ lattices at a range of temperatures at one of t…

At finite imaginary values of the chemical potential, QCD is free of the sign problem. Moreover, at high temperatures the partition function exhibits a new symmetry (the Roberge-Weiss symmetry) connecting phases with different orientations of the Polyakov loop, and the corresponding phase transitions between these. In this contribution we investigate the perturbative one-loop effective potential for the Polyakov loop in the presence of imaginary isospin as well as baryon chemical potentials. This leads to a novel phase diagram, which reveals an interesting insight about the rich phase structur…
The order of the thermal phase transition in the chiral limit of Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) with two dynamical flavors of quarks is a long-standing issue and still not known in the continuum limit. Whether the transition is first or second order has important implications for the QCD phase diagram and the existence of a critical endpoint at finite densities. We follow a recently proposed approach to explicitly determine the region of first order chiral transitions at imaginary chemical potential, where it is large enough to be simulated, and extrapolate it to zero chemical potential with kno…
Constraining the QCD phase diagram by tricritical lines at imaginary chemical potential
We investigate the real and imaginary chemical-potential dependence of pion and $ρ$-meson screening masses in both the confinement and the deconfinement region by using two-flavor lattice QCD. The spatial meson correlators are calculated in the imaginary chemical potential region with lattice QCD simulations. We extract pion and $ρ$-meson screening masses from the correlators. The obtained meson screening masses are extrapolated to the real chemical potential region by assuming some analytic function. In the real chemical potential region, the resulting pion and $ρ$-meson screening masses mono…
We first extend our formulation for the calculation of $π$- and $σ$-meson screening masses to the case of finite chemical potential $μ$. We then consider the imaginary-$μ$ approach, which is an extrapolation method from imaginary chemical potential ($μ=i μ_{\rm I}$) to real one ($μ=μ_{\rm R}$). The feasibility of the method is discussed based on the entanglement Polyakov-loop extended Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (EPNJL) model in 2-flavor system. As an example, we investigate how reliable the imaginary-$μ$ approach is for $π$- and $σ$-meson screening masses, comparing "screening masses at $μ_{\rm R}$ i…
We extract the imaginary part of the heavy-quark potential using classical-statistical simulations of real-time Yang-Mills dynamics in classical thermal equilibrium. The $r$-dependence of the imaginary part of the potential is extracted by measuring the temporal decay of Wilson loops of spatial length $r$. We compare our results to continuum expressions obtained using hard thermal loop theory and to semi-analytic lattice perturbation theory calculations using the hard classical loop formalism. We find that, when plotted as a function of $m_D r$, where $m_D$ is the hard classical loop Debye mas…
The nature of the thermal phase transition of two flavor QCD in the chiral limit has an important implication for the QCD phase diagram. We carry out lattice QCD simulations in an attempt to address this problem. Simulations are conducted with a Symanzik-improved gauge action and the HISQ fermion action. Within the imaginary chemical potential formulation, five different quark masses, $am=0.020,\, 0.018, \, 0.015, \, 0.013,\, 0.010$, and four different lattice volumes $N_s=8, \, 12,\, 16, \, 20$ with temporal extent $N_t=4$ are used to explore the scaling behavior. At each of the quark masses,…
Properties of QCD at finite imaginary chemical potential are revisited to utilize for the model building of QCD in low energy regimes. For example, the electric holonomy which is closely related to the Polyakov-loop drastically affects thermodynamic quantities beside the Roberge-Weiss transition line. To incorporate several properties at finite imaginary chemical potential, it is important to introduce the holonomy effects to the coupling constant of effective models. This extension is possible by considering the entanglement vertex. We show justifications of the entanglement vertex based on t…
The imaginary part of the effective heavy-quark potential is related to the total in-medium decay width of heavy quark-antiquark bound states. We extract the static limit of this quantity using classical-statistical simulations of real-time Yang-Mills dynamics by measuring the temporal decay of Wilson loops. By performing the simulations on finer and larger lattices, we are able to show that the nonperturbative results follow the same form as the perturbative ones. For large quark-antiquark separations, we quantify the magnitude of the non-perturbative long-range corrections to the imaginary p…
Result on the locations of the tricritical points of $N_f=2$ lattice QCD with imaginary chemical potential is presented. Simulations are carried out with Symanzik improved gauge action and Asqtad fermion action. With imaginary chemical potential $iμ_I=iπT$, previous studies show that the Roberge-Weiss (RW) transition endpoints are triple points at both large and small quark masses, and second order transition points at intermediate quark masses. The triple and second order endpoints are separated by two tricritical ones. Our simulations are carried out at 7 values of quark mass $am$ ranging fr…
Using GPGPU techniques and multi-precision calculation we developed the code to study QCD phase transition line in the canonical approach. The canonical approach is a powerful tool to investigate sign problem in Lattice QCD. The central part of the canonical approach is the fugacity expansion of the grand canonical partition functions. Canonical partition functions $Z_n(T)$ are coefficients of this expansion. Using various methods we study properties of $Z_n(T)$. At the last step we perform cubic spline for temperature dependence of $Z_n(T)$ at fixed $n$ and compute baryon number susceptibilit…
The QCD phase diagram at imaginary chemical potential exhibits a rich structure and studying it can constrain the phase diagram at real values of the chemical potential. Moreover, at imaginary chemical potential standard numerical techniques based on importance sampling can be applied, since no sign problem is present. In the last decade, a first understanding of the QCD phase diagram at purely imaginary chemical potential has been developed, but most of it is so far based on investigations on coarse lattices ($N_τ=4$, $a=0.3\:$fm). Considering the $N_f=2$ case, at the Roberge-Weiss critical v…
