The purpose of this paper is devoted to studying representation of measures of non generalized compactness, in particular, measures of noncompactness, of non-weak compactness, and of non-super weak compactness, etc, defined on Banach spaces and its applications. With the aid of a three-time order preserving embedding theorem, we show that for every Banach space $X$, there exist a Banach function space $C(K)$ for some compact Hausdorff space $K$, and an order-preserving affine mapping $\mathbb T$ from the super space $\mathscr B$ of all nonempty bounded subsets of $X$ endowed with the Hausdorff metric to the positive cone $C(K)^+$ of $C(K)$ such that for every convex measure, in particular, regular measure, homogeneous measure, sublinear measure of non generalized compactness $μ$ on $X$, there is a convex function $\digamma$ on the cone $V=\mathbb T(\mathscr B)$ which is Lipschitzian on each bounded set of $V$ such that \[\digamma(\mathbb T(B))=μ(B),\;\;\forall\;B\in\mathscr B.\] As its applications, we show a class of basic integral inequalities related to an initial-value problem in Banach spaces, and prove a solvability result of the initial-value problem, which is an extension of some classical results due to Goebel, Rzymowski, and Banaś.
Let $X(\mathbb{R})$ be a separable Banach function space such that the Hardy-Littlewood maximal operator $M$ is bounded on $X(\mathbb{R})$ and on its associate space $X'(\mathbb{R})$. Suppose $a$ is a Fourier multiplier on the space $X(\mathbb{R})$. We show that the Fourier convolution operator $W^0(a)$ with symbol $a$ is compact on the space $X(\mathbb{R})$ if and only if $a=0$. This result implies that nontrivial Fourier convolution operators on Lebesgue spaces with Muckenhoupt weights are never compact.
The paper introduces the concept of quasimeasure of noncompactness. Motivated by the Arzelà-Ascoli theorem for $C^b(X,E)$, where $X$ is an Euclidean space and $E$ an arbitrary Banach space, we construct a quasimeasure for this space and study its properties. An analogon for Darbo fixed point theorem is obtained with the additional aid of measure of nonconvexity. The paper ends with possible application in integral equations. We prove that a Hammerstein operator with Carathéodory kernel and nonlinearity of a certain type has a fixed point.
We consider the modulus of noncompact convexity $Δ_{X,ϕ}(\varepsilon)$ associated with the minimalizable measure of noncompactness $ϕ$. We present some properties of this modulus, while the main result of this paper is showing that $Δ_{X,ϕ}(\varepsilon)$ is a subhomogenous and continuous function on $[0,ϕ(\bar{B}_X))$ for an arbitrary minimalizable measure of compactness $ϕ$ in the case of a Banach space $X$ with the Radon-Nikodym property.
A long-standing question in the theory of measures of noncompactness is that for the Kuratowski measure of noncompactness $α$ defined on a metric space $M$, and for every bounded subset $B\subset M$, is there a countable subset $B_0\subset B$ such that $α(B_0)=α(B)$? In this paper, we give an affirmative answer to the question above. It is done by showing that for each nonempty set $B$ of a Banach space, there is a countable subset $B_0\subset B$ so that $B$ is strongly finitely representable in $B_0$, and that there is a free ultrafilter $\mathcal U$ so that $B$ is affinely isometric to a sub…
We prove new inequalities for the spectral radius, essential spectral radius, operator norm, measure of noncompactness and numerical radius of Hadamard weighted geometric means of positive kernel operators on Banach function and sequence spaces. Several inequalities appear to be new even in the finite dimensional case.
This paper deals with the following Cauchy problem to nonlinear time fractional non-autonomous integro-differential evolution equation of mixed type via measure of noncompactness $$ \left\{\begin{array}{ll} ^CD^α_tu(t)+A(t)u(t)= f(t,u(t),(Tu)(t), (Su)(t)),\quad t\in [0,a], \\[12pt] u(0)=A^{-1}(0)u_0 \end{array} \right. $$ in infinite-dimensional Banach space $E$, where $ ^CD^α_t$ is the standard Caputo's fractional time derivative of order $0<α\leq 1$, $A(t)$ is a family of closed linear operators defined on a dense domain $D(A)$ in Banach space $E$ into $E$ such that $D(A)$ is independent of …
We introduce a measure of super weak noncompactness $Γ$ defined for bounded linear operators and subsets in Banach spaces that allows to state and prove a characterization of the Banach spaces which are subspaces of a Hilbert generated space. The use of super weak compactness and $Γ$ casts light on the structure of these Banach spaces and complements the work of Argyros, Fabian, Farmaki, Godefroy, Hájek, Montesinos,\linebreak Troyanski and Zizler on this subject. A particular kind of relatively super weakly compact sets, namely uniformly weakly null sets, plays an important role and exhibits c…
Our aim in this paper is to present results of existence of fixed points for continuous operators in Banach spaces using measure of noncompactness under an integral condition. This results are generalization of results given by A. Aghajania and M. Aliaskaria which are generalization of Darbo's fixed point theorem. As application we use these results to solve an integral equations in Banach spaces.
In the paper compact multiplier operators on Banach spaces of analytic functions on the unit disk with the range in Banach sequence lattices are studied. If the domain space $X$ is such that $H_\infty\hookrightarrow X\hookrightarrow H_1$, necessary and sufficient conditions for compactness are presented. Moreover, the calculation of the Hausdorff measure of noncompactness for diagonal operators between Banach sequence lattices is applied to obtaining the characterization of compact multipliers in case the domain space $X$ satisfies $H_\infty\hookrightarrow X\hookrightarrow H_2$.
The main result of this paper establishes that the known Arazy-Cwikel property holds for classes of uniformly K-monotone spaces in the quasi-Banach setting provided that the initial couple is mutually closed. As a consequence, we get that the class of all quasi-Banach K-spaces (i.e., interpolation spaces which are described by the real K-method) with respect to an arbitrary mutually closed Banach couple enjoys the Arazy-Cwikel property. Another consequence complements some previous results by Bykov and Ovchinnikov, showing that this property holds also for the class of all interpolation quasi-…
We develop a theory of eventually positive $C_0$-semigroups on Banach lattices, that is, of semigroups for which, for every positive initial value, the solution of the corresponding Cauchy problem becomes positive for large times. We give characterisations of such semigroups by means of spectral and resolvent properties of the corresponding generators, complementing existing results on spaces of continuous functions. This enables us to treat a range of new examples including the square of the Laplacian with Dirichlet boundary conditions, the bi-Laplacian on $L^p$-spaces, the Dirichlet-to-Neuma…
The application of generalized inverses is usually neglected in pure mathematical research. However, it is very effective for this paper. We expand the famous matrix rank theorem due to R. Penrose to operators between Banach paces. Therefore a modern perturbation analysis of generalized inverses is built. Hereby, we find and prove a complete rank theorem in advanced calculus. So a complete answer to the rank theorem problem presented by M. S. Berger is given. Applying the co-final set and the perturbation analysis of generalized inverses we prove the Frobenius theorem in Banach space, in the p…
In this paper, the Pazy's Fixed Point Theorems of monotone $α-$nonexpansive mapping $T$ are proved in a uniformly convex Banach space $E$ with the partial order "$\leq$". That is, we obtain that the fixed point set of $T$ with respect to the partial order "$\leq$" is nonempty whenever the Picard iteration $\{T^nx_0\}$ is bounded for some initial point $x_0$ with $x_0\leq Tx_0$ or $Tx_0\leq x_0$. When restricting the demain of $T$ to the cone $P$, a monotone $α-$nonexpansive mapping $T$ has at least a fixed point if and only if the Picard iteration $\{T^n0\}$ is bounbed. Furthermore, with the h…
Given a category of objects, it is both useful and important to know if all the objects in the category may be realised as sub-objects -- via morphisms in the given category -- of a single object in that category enjoying some nice properties. In the category of separable Banach spaces with morphisms consisting of linear isometries, such an example of (a universal) object is provided by the well-known Banach Mazur theorem: the space C[0,1] of continuous functions on the unit interval contains each separable Banach spaces as a closed subspace via a linear isometry. Here the question also arises…
Given a Banach space X and one of its compact sets F, we consider the problem of finding a good n dimensional space X_n \subset X which can be used to approximate the elements of F. The best possible error we can achieve for such an approximation is given by the Kolmogorov width d_n(F)_X. However, finding the space which gives this performance is typically numerically intractable. Recently, a new greedy strategy for obtaining good spaces was given in the context of the reduced basis method for solving a parametric family of PDEs. The performance of this greedy algorithm was initially analyzed …
The problem involving the extension of functions from a certain class and defined on subdomains of the ambient space to the whole space is an old and a well investigated theme in analysis. A related question whether the extensions that result in the process may be chosen in a linear or a continuous manner between appropriate spaces of functions turns out to be highly nontrivial. That this holds for the class of continuous functions defined on metric spaces is the well-known Borsuk-Dugundji theorem which asserts that given a metric space M and a subspace S of M, each continuous function g on S …
A variant of the abstract Cauchy-Kovalevskaya theorem is considered. We prove existence and uniqueness of classical solutions to the nonlinear, non-autonomous initial value problem \[ \frac{du(t)}{dt} = A(t)u(t) + B(u(t),t), \ \ u(0) = x \] in a scale of Banach spaces. Here $A(t)$ is the generator of an evolution system acting in a scale of Banach spaces and $B(u,t)$ obeys an Ovcyannikov-type bound. Continuous dependence of the solution with respect to $A(t)$, $B(u,t)$ and $x$ is proved. The results are applied to the Kimura-Maruyama equation for the mutation-selection balance model. This yiel…
Consider a separable Banach space $ \mathcal{W}$ supporting a non-trivial Gaussian measure $μ$. The following is an immediate consequence of the theory of Gaussian measure on Banach spaces: there exist (almost surely) successful couplings of two $\mathcal{W}$-valued Brownian motions $ \mathbf{B}$ and $\widetilde{\mathbf{B}}$ begun at starting points $\mathbf{B}(0)$ and $\widetilde{\mathbf{B}}(0)$ if and only if the difference $\mathbf{B}(0)-\widetilde{\mathbf{B}}(0)$ of their initial positions belongs to the Cameron-Martin space $\mathcal{H}_μ $ of $\mathcal{W}$ corresponding to $μ$. Orlicz-type Function Spaces and Generalized Gradient Flows with Degenerate Dissipation Potentials in Non-Reflexive Banach Spaces: Theory and Application
The article is dedicated towards the study of fractional order non-linear differential systems with non-instantaneous impulses involving Riemann-Liouville derivatives with fixed lower limit and appropriate integral type initial conditions in Banach spaces. First, mild solution of the system is constructed and subsequently its existence is proven using Banach's fixed point theorem. Then, results of approximate controllability are established using concept of fractional semigroup and an iterative technique. Suitable examples are given in the end supporting the methodology along with pointing out…
End-point maximal $L^1$-regularity for parabolic initial-boundary value problems is considered. For the inhomogeneous Dirichlet and Neumann data, maximal $L^1$-regularity for initial-boundary value problems is established in time end-point case upon the homogeneous Besov space $\dot B_{p,1}^s({\mathbb R}^n_+)$ with $1< p< \infty$ and $-1+1/p<s\le 0$ as well as optimal trace estimates. The main estimates obtained here are sharp in the sense of trace estimates and it is not available by known theory on the class of UMD Banach spaces. We utilize a method of harmonic analysis, in particular, the a…
In this paper, we are concerned with backward solvabilities of heat equations, in an abstract framework. We show that semigroups $T_t$ in Banach spaces $X$, generated by heat operators, are extendable to groups in an extended space $E$, which is obtained by considering a sequence of wider Banach spaces containing $X$, i.e. $X$$/subset$$X_t$$/subset$$X_s$... $(t<s)$, under the following two conditions. One is the density assumption on a subset $D$ of $X$, the set of initial values $x$ from which $T_{-t}x$ exists for all $t>0$. Another is the backward uniqueness of the semigroup $T_t$. For examp…
We identify simple universal properties that uniquely characterize the Lebesgue $L^p$ spaces. There are two main theorems. The first states that the Banach space $L^p[0, 1]$, equipped with a small amount of extra structure, is initial as such. The second states that the $L^p$ functor on finite measure spaces, again with some extra structure, is also initial as such. In both cases, the universal characterization of the integrable functions produces a unique characterization of integration. Using the universal properties, we develop some of the basic elements of integration theory. We also state…
Consider a $C_0$-semigroup $(e^{tA})_{t \ge 0}$ on a function space or, more generally, on a Banach lattice $E$. We prove a sufficient criterion for the operators $e^{tA}$ to be positive for all sufficiently large times $t$, while the semigroup itself might not be positive. This complements recently established criteria for the individual orbits of the semigroup to become eventually positive for all positive initial values. We apply our main result to study the qualitative behaviour of the solutions to various partial differential equations.
Our main result concerns the following condition: {\bf Condition C.} Let $X$ be a Banach space. A $C^1$ function $f:X\rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ satisfies Condition C if whenever $\{x_n\}$ weakly converges to $x$ and $\lim _{n\rightarrow\infty}||\nabla f(x_n)||=0$, then $\nabla f(x)=0$. We assume that there is given a canonical isomorphism between $X$ and its dual $X^*$, for example when $X$ is a Hilbert space. {\bf Theorem.} Let $X$ be a reflexive, complete Banach space and $f:X\rightarrow \mathbb{R}$ be a $C^2$ function which satisfies Condition C. Moreover, we assume that for every bounded set …
The sequence of one-parameter semigroups arising as the approximation of initial-boundary value problem with singularities is the object of investigation of this paper. The set of limit points of the sequence of approximating semigroups is studied. The set of limit points of the map with values in a linear topological space is presented as the set of mean values of this map by measures on the domain of definition of the map. One to one correspondence betwin the semigroups generated by any approximating initial-boundary value problems and the pseudomeasures on the space of maps of time semiaxe …
In this work we study certain invariant measures that can be associated to the time averaged observation of a broad class of dissipative semigroups via the notion of a generalized Banach limit. Consider an arbitrary complete separable metric space $X$ which is acted on by any continuous semigroup $\{S(t)\}_{t \geq 0}$. Suppose that $§(t)\}_{t \geq 0}$ possesses a global attractor $\mathcal{A}$. We show that, for any generalized Banach limit $\underset{T \rightarrow \infty}{\rm{LIM}}$ and any distribution of initial conditions $\mathfrak{m}_0$, that there exists an invariant probability measure…
