The finite temperature phase diagram of QCD with two massless quark flavors is not yet understood because of the subtle effects of anomalous $U_A(1)$ symmetry. In this work we address this issue by studying the fate of the anomalous $U_A(1)$ symmetry in $2+1$ flavor QCD just above the chiral crossover transition temperature $T_c$, lowering the light quark mass towards the chiral limit along line of constant physical strange quark mass. We use the gauge configurations generated using the Highly Improved Staggered Quark (HISQ) discretization on lattice volumes $32^3\times8$ and $56^3\times 8$ to study the renormalized eigenvalue spectrum of QCD with valence overlap Dirac operator. We have implemented new numerical techniques that have allowed us to measure about $100$-$200$ eigenvalues of the gauge ensembles with light quark masses $\gtrsim 0.6$ MeV. From a detailed analysis of the dependence of the renormalized eigenvalue spectrum and $U_A(1)$ breaking observables on the light quark mass, our study suggests $U_A(1)$ is broken at $T\gtrsim T_c$ even when the chiral limit is approached.
The nature of chiral phase transition for QCD with two light quark flavors is not yet completely resolved. This is primarily because one has to understand whether or not the anomalous U(1) symmetry in the flavor sector is effectively restored along with the chiral symmetry. Since the physics near the chiral phase transition is essentially non-perturbative, we employ first principles lattice techniques to address this issue. We use overlap fermions, which have exact chiral symmetry on the lattice, to probe the anomalous U(1) symmetry violation of 2+1 flavor dynamical QCD configurations with dom…
Finite-temperature phase structure of lattice QCD with the Wilson quark action is analyzed. We show that the critical line at finite temperatures, defined to be the line of vanishing pion screening mass, turns back toward strong coupling, forming a cusp on the $(β, K)$ plane, and that the line of thermal transition runs past the tip of the cusp without touching the critical line. Previous results are discussed in the light of our findings.
The region of the Columbia plot with two light quark flavors is not yet conclusively understood. Non-perturbative effects, e.g. the magnitude of the anomalous U(1) axial symmetry breaking, decides on the nature of the phase transition in this region. We report on our study of this region of the Columbia plot using lattice techniques. We use gauge field ensembles generated within the Highly Improved Staggered Quark discretization scheme, with the strange quark mass fixed at its physical value and the light quark mass varied such that $m_l=m_s/27$ and $m_s/40$, where $m_l=m_s/27$ corresponds to …
In this paper we study the $η'$ in $N_f=2+1+1$ lattice QCD simulations at finite temperature. Results are obtained from the analysis of the gluonic defined topological charge density correlator after gradient flow. Our results indicate the growth of the $η'$ mass above the pseudocritical temperature, associated with the chiral symmetry restoration. In the vicinity of the pseudocritical temperature the results are consistent with a small dip in the $η'$ mass. The magnitude of the dip is compatible with the reduction of the $η'$ mass obtained by experimental analysis and suggests that $η'$ mass …
We review important aspects of QCD in the continuum and on the lattice and take a look at the fate of its symmetries with an emphasis on chiral symmetry breaking on the lattice.
We study the eigenvalues of Dirac operators in QCD with two mass degenerate dynamical fermions. The gauge configurations have been obtained with HMC and the so-called Chirally Improved fermionic action. We compare eigenvalues obtained for the overlap Dirac operator on these configurations with those for the Chirally Improved (CI) operator (studied earlier). Results of Random Matrix Theory allow us to determine the chiral condensate.
We apply the probability distribution function method to the study of chiral properties of QCD with quarks in the exact massless limit. A relation among the chiral condensate, zeros of the Bessel function and eigenvalue of Dirac operator is also given. The chiral condensate in this limit can be measured with small number of eigenvalues of the massless Dirac operator and without any ambiguous mass extrapolation. Results for SU(3) gauge theory with quenched Kogut-Susskind quarks on the $10^4$ lattice are shown.
We investigate general properties of the eigenvalue spectrum for improved staggered quarks. We introduce a new chirality operator $[γ_5 \otimes 1]$ and a new shift operator $[1 \otimes ξ_5]$, which respect the same recursion relation as the $γ_5$ operator in the continuum. Then we show that matrix elements of the chirality operator sandwiched between two eigenstates of the staggered Dirac operator are related to those of the shift operator by the Ward identity of the conserved $U(1)_A$ symmetry of staggered fermion actions. We perform a numerical study in quenched QCD using HYP staggered quark…
We reinvestigate constraints on the eigenvalue density of the Dirac operator in the chiral symmetric phase of 2 flavor QCD at finite temperature, employing the overlap Dirac operator with the exact chiral symmetry at finite lattice spacings to avoid possible ultra-violet(UV) divergences. Studying multi-point correlation functions in various channels in the thermodynamical limit, we obtain stronger constraints than those found in the previous studies that not only the eigenvalue density at the origin but also its first and second derivatives vanish in the chiral limit of 2 flavor QCD. In additi…
The spectrum of low-lying eigenvalues of overlap Dirac operator in quenched SU(2) lattice gauge theory with tadpole-improved Symanzik action is studied at finite temperatures in the vicinity of the confinement-deconfinement phase transition defined by the expectation value of the Polyakov line. The value of the chiral condensate obtained from the Banks-Casher relation is found to drop down rapidly at T = Tc, though not going to zero. At Tc' = 1.5 Tc = 480 MeV the chiral condensate decreases rapidly one again and becomes either very small or zero. At T < Tc the distributions of small eigenvalue…
We investigate chiral properties of the domain-wall fermion (DWF) system by using the four-dimensional hermitian Wilson-Dirac operator. We first derive a formula which connects a chiral symmetry breaking term in the five dimensional DWF Ward-Takahashi identity with the four dimensional Wilson-Dirac operator, and simplify the formula in terms of only the eigenvalues of the operator, using an ansatz for the form of the eigenvectors. For a given distribution of the eigenvalues, we then discuss the behavior of the chiral symmetry breaking term as a function of the fifth dimensional length. We fina…
Recent advances in Random Matrix Theory enable one to determine the pseudoscalar decay constant from the response of eigenmodes of quenched fermions to an imaginary isospin chemical potential. We perform a pilot test of this idea, from simulations with two flavors of dynamical overlap fermions.
We reconsider constraints on the eigenvalue density of the Dirac operator in the chiral symmetric phase of 2 flavor QCD at finite temperature. To avoid possible ultra-violet(UV) divergences, we work on a lattice, employing the overlap Dirac operator, which ensures the exact "chiral" symmetry at finite lattice spacings. Studying multi-point correlation functions in various channels and taking their thermodynamical limit (and then taking the chiral limit), we obtain stronger constraints than those found in the previous studies: both the eigenvalue density at the origin and its first and second d…
Chiral perturbation theory for eigenvalue distributions, and equivalently random matrix theory, has recently been extended to include lattice effects for Wilson fermions. We test the predictions by comparison to eigenvalue distributions of the Hermitian Wilson-Dirac operator from pure gauge (quenched) ensembles. We show that the lattice effects are diminished when using clover improvement for the Dirac operator. We demonstrate that the leading Wilson low-energy constants associated with Wilson (clover) fermions can be determined using spectral information of the respective Dirac operator at fi…
We present a detailed study of the interplay between chiral symmetry and spectral properties of the Dirac operator in lattice gauge theories. We consider, in the framework of the Schwinger model, the fixed point action and a fermion action recently proposed by Neuberger. Both actions show the remnant of chiral symmetry on the lattice as formulated in the Ginsparg-Wilson relation. We check this issue for practical implementations, also evaluating the fermion condensate in a finite volume by a subtraction procedure. Moreover, we investigate the distribution of the eigenvalues of a properly defin…
We investigate a chiral property of the domain-wall fermion (DWF) system using the four-dimensional hermitian Wilson-Dirac operator $H_W$. A formula expressing the Ward-Takahashi identity quark mass $m_{5q}$ with eigenvalues of this operator is derived, which well explains the $N_5$ dependence of $m_{5q}$ observed in previous numerical simulations. We further discuss the chiral property of DWF in the large volume in terms of the spectra of $H_W$.
The eigenvalue spectra of staggered fermions with an Adams and/or Hoelbling mass term are studied. The chiralities of the eigenmodes reflect whether the chirality linked to the unflavored approximate (γ_5 \times 1) or the flavored exact (γ_5 \times ξ_5) staggered symmetry is considered, and which one of the RR, LR, RL, LL eigenmode definitions is used. In either case a sensitivity to the topological charge of the gauge background is found. We discuss how to remove the leading cut-off effects of these actions by means of a properly tuned improvement term and/or the overlap procedure. The combin…
The magnitude of the $U_A(1)$ symmetry breaking is expected to affect the nature of $N_f=2$ QCD chiral phase transition. The explicit breaking of chiral symmetry due to realistic light quark mass is small, so it is important to use chiral fermions on the lattice to understand the effect of $U_A(1)$ near the chiral crossover temperature, $T_c$. We report our latest results for the eigenvalue spectrum of 2+1 flavour QCD with dynamical Mobius domain wall fermions at finite temperature probed using the overlap operator on $32^3\times 8$ lattice. We check how sensitive the low-lying eigenvalues are…
Chiral properties of QCD formulated with the domain-wall fermion (DWQCD) are studied using the anomalous quark mass m_{5q} and the spectrum of the 4-dimensional Wilson-Dirac operator. Numerical simulations are made with the standard plaquette gauge action and a renormalization-group improved gauge action. Results are reported on the density of zero eigenvalue obtained with the accumulation method, and a comparison is made with the results for m_{5q}.
We construct a model to study the impact of instantons on the low lying eigenvalue spectrum of the Dirac operator. The model is by necessity, approximate, though it does incorporate the important symmetries of the underlying field theory. The model also reproduces classical results in the appropriate limits. We find that generic instanton ensembles lead to an accumulation of eigenvalues around zero, and hence, break chiral symmetry. The eigenvalue spectrum is divergent however, as the eigenvalue approaches zero. This leads to a divergent chiral condensate in quenched QCD, and hence, shows the …
We study the $(1+1)$-dimensional chiral Gross-Neveu model on the lattice. At finite density, analytic mean-field results predict the existence of inhomogeneous condensates breaking both chiral symmetry and spacetime symmetries spontaneously. We investigate the fate of these inhomogeneities for two flavors and find remnant structural order, albeit with a decaying amplitude. We also map out phase diagrams in the plane spanned by the chemical potential and temperature for different lattice spacings and physical volumes. Finally, we comment on the interpretation of our results in the light of vari…
We compare the eigenvalue spectra of the Dirac operator from a simulation with two mass degenerate dynamical chirally improved fermions with Random Matrix Theory. Comparisons with distribution of k-th eigenvalues (k=1,2) in fixed topological sectors (nu=0,1) are carried out using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. The eigenvalue distributions are well described by the RMT predictions. The match allows us to read off the quark condensate in the chiral limit directly. Correcting for finite size and renormalization we obtain a mean value of -(276 (11)(16) MeV)**3 in the MS-bar scheme.
We investigate the Dirac eigenvalue spectrum ($ρ(λ,m_l)$) to study the microscopic origin of axial anomaly in high temperature phase of QCD. We propose novel relations between the derivatives ($\partial^n ρ(λ,m_l)/\partial m_l^n$) of the Dirac eigenvalue spectrum with respect to the quark mass ($m_l$) and the $(n+1)$-point correlations among the eigenvalues ($λ$) of the massless Dirac operator. Based on these relations, we present lattice QCD results for $\partial^n ρ(λ,m_l)/\partial m_l^n$ ($n=1, 2, 3$) with $m_l$ corresponding to pion masses $m_π=160-55$ MeV, and at a temperature of about 1.…
We introduce novel relations between the derivatives [$\partial^{n}ρ(λ, m_{l})/\partial m_{l}^n$] of the Dirac eigenvalue spectrum [$ρ(λ, m_{l})$] with respect to the light sea quark mass ($m_{l}$) and the $(n+1)$-point correlations among the eigenvalues ($λ$) of the massless Dirac operator. Using these relations we present lattice QCD results for $\partial^{n}ρ(λ, m_{l})/\partial m_{l}^n$ ($n=1, 2, 3$) for $m_{l}$ corresponding to pion masses $m_π=160-55$ MeV, and at a temperature of about 1.6 times the chiral phase transition temperature. Calculations were carried out using (2+1) flavors of …
Dirac operator eigenvalues split into two when subjected to two different external vector sources. In a specific finite-volume scaling regime of gauge theories with fermions, this problem can be mapped to a chiral Random Two-Matrix Theory. We derive analytical expressions to leading order in the associated finite-volume expansion, showing how individual Dirac eigenvalue distributions and their correlations equivalently can be computed directly from the effective chiral Lagrangian in the epsilon-regime. Because of its equivalence to chiral Random Two-Matrix Theory, we use the latter for all exp…
We compute individual distributions of low-lying eigenvalues of a chiral random matrix ensemble interpolating symplectic and unitary symmetry classes by the Nyström-type method of evaluating the Fredholm Pfaffian and resolvents of the quaternion kernel. The one-parameter family of these distributions are shown to fit excellently the Dirac spectra of SU(2) lattice gauge theory with a constant U(1) background or dynamically fluctuating U(1) gauge field, which weakly breaks the pseudo-reality of the unperturbed SU(2) Dirac operator. Observed linear dependence of the crossover parameter with the s…
In the planar limit, in the deconfined phase, the Euclidean Dirac operator has a spectral gap around zero. We show that functions of eigenvalues close to the spectral edge, which are independent of common rescalings and shifts gauge configuration by gauge configuration, have distributions described by a Gaussian Hermitian matrix model. However, combinations of eigenvalues that are scale and shift invariant only on the average, do not match this matrix model.
We give some estimates for the light-quark mass dependence of the pole position of the sigma ($f_{0}(500)$) resonance in the complex energy plane, with the help of a chiral Lagrangian for the resonance field and some input from hadronic models constrained by Chiral Perturbation Theory and elastic unitarity. We also speculate on the fate of the sigma resonance when the quark masses become unphysically large.
The eigenvalues of the Dirac operator at finite volume encode whether or not chiral symmetry is spontaneously broken in a massless theory. We apply this framework in a particular BSM context, namely SU(3) gauge theory with N_f=2 massless flavors in the 2-index symmetric (sextet) representation. Our first results are at a single lattice spacing. We find that both the density of near-zero eigenvalues and the renormalization group invariant mode number indicate spontaneous symmetry breaking. Quantitatively, there is a discrepancy between the determination of the fermion condensate in the chiral l…
To understand the relation between the chiral symmetry breaking and monopoles, the chiral condensate which is the order parameter of the chiral symmetry breaking is calculated in the $\overline{\mbox{MS}}$ scheme at 2 [GeV]. First, we add one pair of monopoles, varying the monopole charges $m_{c}$ from zero to four, to SU(3) quenched configurations by a monopole creation operator. The low-lying eigenvalues of the Overlap Dirac operator are computed from the gauge links of the normal configurations and the configurations with additional monopoles. Next, we compare the distributions of the neare…
In this proceedings contribution we discuss the fate of the electroweak and the quantum chromodynamics phase transitions relevant for the early stage of the universe at non-zero temperature. These phase transitions are related to the Higgs mechanism and the breaking of chiral symmetry, respectively. We will review that non-perturbative lattice field theory simulations show that these phase transitions actually do not occur in nature and that physical observables show a completely smooth behaviour as a function of the temperature.
We investigate the eigenvalues and eigenvectors of the staggered Dirac operator in the vicinity of the chiral phase transition of quenched SU(3) lattice gauge theory. We consider both the global features of the spectrum and the local correlations. In the chirally symmetric phase, the local correlations in the bulk of the spectrum are still described by random matrix theory, and we investigate the dependence of the bulk Thouless energy on the simulation parameters. At and above the critical point, the properties of the low-lying Dirac eigenvalues depend on the $Z_3$-phase of the Polyakov loop. …
Chiral dynamics is investigated using the chiral confining Lagrangian (CCL), previously derived from QCD with confinement interaction. Based on the calculations of the quark condensate, which is defined entirely by confinement in the zero quark mass limit, one can assert that chiral symmetry breaking occurs not spontaneously but is predetermined by confinement. The expansion of the CCL provides the GMOR relations and the effective chiral Lagrangian, which is used to provide the masses and decay constants of all chiral mesons, including $η,η'$. For the latter one needs to define a non-chiral co…
The low-lying eigenvalue spectrum of the QCD Dirac operator in the epsilon-regime is expected to match with that of chiral Random Matrix Theory (ChRMT). We study this correspondence for the case including sea quarks by performing two-flavor QCD simulations on the lattice. Using the overlap fermion formulation, which preserves exact chiral symmetry at finite lattice spacings, we push the sea quark mass down to \sim 3 MeV on a 16^3\times 32 lattice at a lattice spacing a \simeq 0.11 fm. We compare the low-lying eigenvalue distributions and find a good agreement with the analytical predictions of…
We compute the low lying eigenvalues of the Hermitian Dirac operator in lattice QCD with $N_{\rm f} = 2+1+1$ twisted mass fermions. We discuss whether these eigenvalues are in the $ε$-regime or the $p$-regime of Wilson chiral perturbation theory ($χ$PT) for twisted mass fermions. Reaching the deep $ε$-regime is practically unfeasible with presently typical simulation parameters, but still the few lowest eigenvalues of the employed ensemble evince some characteristic $ε$-regime features. With this conclusion in mind, we develop a fitting strategy to extract two low energy constants from analyti…
With two degenerate quarks, the chiral condensate exhibits a jump as the quark masses pass through zero. I discuss how this single transition splits into two Ising like transitions when the quarks are made non-degenerate. The order parameter is the expectation of the neutral pion field. The transitions represent long distance coherent phenomena occuring without the Dirac operator having vanishingly small eigenvalues.
In the epsilon-regime of lattice QCD one can get an accurate measurement of the pion decay constant F_pi by monitoring how just one single Dirac operator eigenvalue splits into two when subjected to two different external vector sources. Because we choose imaginary chemical potentials our Dirac eigenvalues remain real. Based on the relevant chiral Random Two-Matrix Theory we derive individual eigenvalue distributions in terms of density correlations functions to leading order in the finite-volume epsilon-expansion. As a simple byproduct we also show how the associated individual Dirac eigenval…
We use the idea of a Wigner surmise to compute approximate distributions of the first eigenvalue in chiral Random Matrix Theory, for both real and complex eigenvalues. Testing against known results for zero and maximal non-Hermiticity in the microscopic large-N limit we find an excellent agreement, valid for a small number of exact zero-eigenvalues. New compact expressions are derived for real eigenvalues in the orthogonal and symplectic classes, and at intermediate non-Hermiticity for the unitary and symplectic classes. Such individual Dirac eigenvalue distributions are a useful tool in Latti…
We utilize the eigenvalue filtering technique combined with the stochastic estimate of the mode number to determine the eigenvalue spectrum. Simulations of (2 + 1)-flavor QCD are performed using the Highly Improved Staggered Quarks (HISQ/tree) action on $N_τ$ = 8 lattices with aspect ratios $N_σ/N_τ$ ranging from 5 to 7. The strange quark mass is fixed to its physical value $m_{s}^{\rm phy}$, and the light quark masses $m_{l}$ are varied from $m_{s}^{\rm phy}/40$ to $m_{s}^{\rm phy}/160$ which correspond to pion mass $m_π$ ranging from 110 MeV to 55 MeV in the continuum limit. We compute the c…
We study the chirality of staggered quarks on the Dirac eigenvalue spectrum using deep learning (DL) techniques. The Kluberg-Stern method to construct staggered bilinear operators conserves continuum property such as recursion relations, uniqueness of chirality, and Ward identities, which leads to a unique and characteristic pattern (we call it "leakage pattern (LP)") in the matrix elements of the chirality operator sandwiched between two quark eigenstates of staggered Dirac operator. DL analysis gives $99.4(2)\%$ accuracy on normal gauge configurations and $0.998$ AUC (Area Under ROC Curve) f…
In a system where chiral symmetry is spontaneously broken, the low energy eigenmodes of the continuum Dirac operator are extended. On the lattice, due to discretization effects, the Dirac operator can have localized eigenmodes that affect physical quantities sensitive to chiral symmetry. While the infrared eigenmodes of the Wilson Dirac operator are usually extended even on coarse lattices, the chiral overlap operator has many localized eigenmodes in the physical region, especially in mixed action simulations. Depending on their density, these modes can introduce strong lattice artifacts. The …
We discuss chiral symmetry restoration and eigenmode localisation in finite-temperature QCD by looking at the lattice Dirac operator as a random Hamiltonian. We argue that the features of QCD relevant to both phenomena are the presence of order in the Polyakov line configuration, and the correlations that this induces between spatial links across time slices. This ties the fate of chiral symmetry and of localisation of the lowest Dirac eigenmodes to the confining properties of the theory. We then show numerical results obtained in a QCD-inspired Anderson-like toy model, derived by radically si…
I describe a mechanism to understand the relation between chiral-symmetry breaking and eigenmodes of the Dirac operator in lattice QCD with Kogut-Susskind sea quarks. It can be shown that if chiral symmetry is spontaneously broken, the eigenvalues $λ_i$ should behave as $z(i)/V$ for large volume $V$, where $z(i)$ is the i-th zero of the Bessel function. With neither chiral nor $λ$ extrapolation, one can precisely calculate the chiral condensate using only a small set of eigenvalues. Therefore, it is economical and free of systematic uncertainties. I present the first QCD data to support this m…
We re-analyze data from available finite-temperature QCD simulations near the chiral transition, with the help of Chiral Random Matrix Theory (chRMT). Statistical properties of the lowest-lying eigenvalues of the staggered Dirac operator for SU(3) lattice gauge theory with dynamical fermions are examined. We consider temperatures below, near, and above the critical temperature $T_c$ for the chiral phase transition. Below and above $T_c$ the statistics are in agreement with the exact analytical predictions in the microscopic scaling regime. Above $T_c$ we observe a gap in the spectral density a…
Close to the continuum the lattice spacing affects the smallest eigenvalues of the Wilson Dirac operator in a very specific manner determined by the way in which the discretization breaks chiral symmetry. These effects can be computed analytically by means of Wilson chiral perturbation theory and Wilson random matrix theory. A number of insights on chiral Dynamics with Wilson fermions can be obtained from the computation of the microscopic spectrum of the Wilson Dirac operator. For example, the unusual volume scaling of the smallest eigenvalues observed in lattice simulations has a natural exp…
We discuss the fate of the axial U(1) symmetry in 2-flavor QCD at finite temperature, where the non-singlet chiral symmetry is restored. We first summarize the previous theoretical investigation on the relation between the eigenvalue density of the Dirac operator and the axial U(1) symmetry. We show that the eigenvalue density near the origin behaves as $λ^γ$ with $γ> 2$ in the chirally symmetric phase, where $λ$ is an eigenvalue. This implies that the axial U(1) symmetry is partially restored, so that the low energy symmetry of the theory becomes SU(2)$\otimes$ SU(2)$\otimes$ Z$_4$. Secondly,…
We investigate the fate of the Roberge-Weiss endpoint transition and its connection with the restoration of chiral symmetry as the chiral limit of $N_f = 2+1$ QCD is approached. We adopt a stout staggered discretization on lattices with $N_t = 4$ sites in the temporal direction; the chiral limit is approached maintaining a constant physical value of the strange-to-light mass ratio and exploring three different light quark masses, corresponding to pseudo-Goldstone pion masses $m_π\simeq 100, 70$ and 50 MeV around the transition. A finite size scaling analysis provides evidence that the transiti…
We calculate numerically the eigenvalue distribution of the overlap Dirac operator in the quenched Schwinger model on a lattice. The distribution does not fit any of the three universality classes of spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking, and its strong volume dependence indicates that the chiral condensate in the quenched theory is an ill-defined and divergent quantity. When we reweight configurations with the Dirac determinant to study the theory with N_f=1, we obtain a distribution of eigenvalues that is well-behaved and consistent with the theory of explicit symmetry breaking due to the ano…
The QCD phase transition is studied on $16^3$ and $32^3 \times 4$ lattices both with and without quark loops. We introduce a new zero-flavor or quenched species of quark $ζ$ and study the resulting chiral condensate, $\azbz$ as a function of the $ζ$ mass, $m_ζ$. By examining $\azbz$ for $10^{-10} \le m_ζ\le 10$ we gain considerable information about the spectrum of Dirac eigenvalues. A comparison of $ma=0.01$ and 0.025 shows little dependence of the Dirac spectrum on such a light, dynamical quark mass, after an overall shift in $β$ is removed. The presence of sufficient small eigenvalues to su…
We investigate the eigenvalue spectrum of the staggered Dirac matrix in SU(3) gauge theory and in full QCD as well as in quenched U(1) theory. As a measure of the fluctuation properties of the eigenvalues, we consider the nearest-neighbor spacing distribution. We find that in all regions of their phase diagrams, compact lattice gauge theories have bulk spectral correlations given by random matrix theory, which is an indication for quantum chaos. In the confinement phase, the low-lying Dirac spectrum of these quantum field theories is well described by random matrix theory, exhibiting universal…
