We consider vector-valued solutions to a linear transmission problem, and we prove that Lipschitz-regularity on one phase is transmitted to the next phase. More exactly, given a solution $u:B_1\subset \mathbb{R}^n \to \mathbb{R}^m$ to the elliptic system \begin{equation*} \mbox{div} ((A + (B-A)χ_D )\nabla u) = 0 \quad \text{in }B_1, \end{equation*} where $A$ and $B$ are Dini continuous, uniformly elliptic matrices, we prove that if $\nabla u \in L^{\infty} (D)$ then $u$ is Lipschitz in $B_{1/2}$. A similar result is also derived for the parabolic counterpart of this problem.
Using a direct approach, we prove a $2$-dimensional epiperimetric inequality for the one-phase problem in the scalar and vectorial cases and for the double-phase problem. From this we deduce, in dimension $2$, the $C^{1,α}$ regularity of the free-boundary in the scalar one-phase and double-phase problems, and of the reduced free-boundary in the vectorial case, without any restriction on the sign of the component functions. Furthermore we show that in the vectorial case the free boundary can end in a cusp.
We consider the vectorial analogue of the thin free boundary problem introduced in \cite{CRS} as a realization of a nonlocal version of the classical Bernoulli problem. We study optimal regularity, nondegeneracy, and density properties of local minimizers. Via a blow-up analysis based on a Weiss type monotonicity formula, we show that the free boundary is the union of a "regular" and a "singular" part. Finally we use a viscosity approach to prove $C^{1,α}$ regularity of the regular part of the free boundary.

We consider an iterative procedure to solve quasilinear elliptic systems with $p$-growth. The scheme was first considered by Koshelev in the quadratic case $p=2$. We present numerical applications as well as applications to higher regularity properties.
In this paper we study the regularity of the free boundary for a vector-valued Bernoulli problem, with no sign assumptions on the boundary data. More precisely, given an open, smooth set of finite measure $D\subset \mathbb{R}^d$, $Λ>0$ and $φ_i\in H^{1/2}(\partial D)$, we deal with \[ \min{\left\{\sum_{i=1}^k\int_D|\nabla v_i|^2+Λ\Big|\bigcup_{i=1}^k\{v_i\not=0\}\Big|\;:\;v_i=φ_i\;\mbox{on }\partial D\right\}}. \] We prove that, for any optimal vector $U=(u_1,\dots, u_k)$, the free boundary $\partial (\cup_{i=1}^k\{u_i\not=0\})\cap D$ is made of a regular part, which is relatively open and loc…
We prove in this article that functions satisfying a dynamic programming principle have a local interior Lipschitz type regularity. This DPP is partly motivated by the connection to the normalized parabolic $p$-Laplace operator.
This paper is devoted to the proof of Lipschitz regularity, down to the microscopic scale, for solutions of an elliptic system with highly oscillating coefficients, over a highly oscillating Lipschitz boundary. The originality of this result is that it does not assume more than Lipschitz regularity on the boundary. Our Theorem, which is a significant improvement of our previous work on Lipschitz estimates in bumpy domains, should be read as an improved regularity result for an elliptic system over a Lipschitz boundary. Our progress in this direction is made possible by an estimate for a bounda…
We discuss conditions for Lipschitz and C^1 regularity for a uniformly elliptic equation in divergence form with coefficients that were introduced by Gilbarg & Serrin. In particular, we find cases where Lipschitz or C^1 regularity holds but the coefficients are not Dini continuous, or do not even have Dini mean oscillation. The form of the coefficients also enables us to obtain specific conditions and examples for which there exists a weak solution that is not Lipschitz continuous.
We prove interior Lipschitz regularity result for weak and viscosity solutions of the pseudo $p$Laplacien $(p-1)\sum_i |\partial_i u|^{p-2} \partial_{ii} u = f$ for $p>2$ and $f$ bounded.
We prove partial regularity for minimizers of vectorial integrals of the Calculus of Variations, with general growth condition, imposing quasiconvexity assumptions only in an asymptotic sense.
In this paper, we study the nonhomogeneous Dirichlet problem concerning general semilinear elliptic equations in divergence form. We establish that the boundary Lipschitz regularity of solutions under some more weaker conditions on the coefficients, the boundary, the boundary function and the nonhomogeneous term. In particular, we assume that the nonhomogeneous term satisfies Dini continuity condition and Lipschitz Newtonian potential condition, which will be the optimal conditions to obtain the boundary Lipschitz regularity of solutions.
In this paper, we consider the pointwise boundary Lipschitz regularity of solutions for the semilinear elliptic equations in divergence form mainly under some weaker assumptions on nonhomogeneous term and the boundary. If the domain satisfies C^{1,\text{Dini}} condition at a boundary point, and the nonhomogeneous term satisfies Dini continuous condition and Lipschitz Newtonian potential condition, then the solution is Lipschitz continuous at this point. Furthermore, we generalize this result to Reifenberg C^{1,\text{Dini}} domains.
We provide Lipschitz regularity for solutions to viscous time-dependent Hamilton-Jacobi equations with right-hand side belonging to Lebesgue spaces. Our approach is based on a duality method, and relies on the analysis of the regularity of the gradient of solutions to a dual (Fokker-Planck) equation. Here, the regularizing effect is due to the non-degenerate diffusion and coercivity of the Hamiltonian in the gradient variable.
Dirac-Schrödinger systems play a central role when modeling Dirac bundles and Dirac-Schrödinger operators near the boundary, along ends or near other singularities of Riemannian manifolds. In this article we develop the Fredholm theory of Dirac-Schrödinger systems with Lipschitz coefficients.
This paper contains two results on the $L^p$ regularity problem on Lipschitz domains. For second order elliptic systems and $1<p<\infty$, we prove that the solvability of the $L^p$ regularity problem is equivalent to that of the $L^{p^\prime}$ Dirichlet problem. For higher order elliptic equations and systems, we show that if $p>2$, the solvability of the $L^p$ regularity problem is equivalent to a weak reverse Hölder condition with exponent $p$.
We prove higher differentiability of bounded local minimizers to some widely degenerate functionals, verifying superquadratic anisotropic growth conditions. In the two dimensional case, we prove that local minimizers to a model functional are locally Lipschitz continuous functions, without any restriction on the anisotropy.
We establish the local Lipschitz continuity and the higher differentiability of vector-valued local minimizers of a class of energy integrals of the Calculus of Variations. The main novelty is that we deal with possibly degenerate energy densities with respect to the x-variable.
We prove that, given~$p>\max\left\{\frac{2n}{n+2},1\right\}$, the nonnegative almost minimizers of the nonlinear free boundary functional $$ J_p(u,Ω):=\int_Ω\Big( |\nabla u(x)|^p+χ_{\{u>0\}}(x)\Big)\,dx$$ are Lipschitz continuous.
Most of lipschitz regularity results for nonlinear strictly elliptic equations are obtained for a suitable growth power of the nonlinearity with respect to the gradient variable (subquadratic for instance). For equations with superquadratic growth power in gradient, one usually uses weak Bernstein-type arguments which require regularity and/or convex-type assumptions on the gradient nonlinearity. In this article, we obtain new Lipschitz regularity results for a large class of nonlinear strictly elliptic equations with possibly arbitrary growth power of the Hamiltonian with respect to the gradi…
We prove an asymptotic Lipschitz estimate for value functions of tug-of-war games with varying probabilities defined in $Ω\subset \mathbb R^n$. The method of the proof is based on a game-theoretic idea to estimate the value of a related game defined in $Ω\times Ω$ via couplings.
For the singularly perturbed system \[Δu_{i,β}=βu_{i,β}\sum_{j\neq i}u_{j,β}^2, \quad 1\leq i\leq N,\] we prove that flat interfaces are uniformly Lipschitz. As a byproduct of the proof we also obtain the optimal lower bound near the flat interfaces, \[\sum_iu_{i,β}\geq cβ^{-1/4}.\]
We prove local Lipschitz regularity for weak solutions to a class of degenerate parabolic PDEs modeled on the parabolic $p$-Laplacian $$\p_t u= \sum_{i=1}^{2n} X_i (|\nabla_0 u|^{p-2} X_i u),$$ in a cylinder $Ω\times \R^+$, where $Ω$ is domain in the Heisenberg group $\Hn$, and $2\le p \le 4$. The result continues to hold in the more general setting of contact sub-Riemannian manifolds.
We start presenting an $L^{\infty}$-gradient bound for solutions to non-homogeneous $p$-Laplacean type systems and equations, via suitable non-linear potentials of the right hand side. Such a bound implies a Lorentz space characterization of Lipschitz regularity of solutions which surprisingly turns out to be independent of $p$, and that reveals to be the same classical one for the standard Laplacean operator. In turn, the a priori estimates derived imply the existence of locally Lipschitz regular solutions to certain degenerate systems with critical growth of the type arising when considering…
We consider a nonlocal equation set in an unbounded domain with the epigraph property. We prove symmetry, monotonicity and rigidity results. In particular, we deal with halfspaces, coercive epigraphs and epigraphs that are flat at infinity.
The goal of this article is to establish local Lipschitz continuity of weak solutions for a class of degenerated elliptic equations of divergence form, in the Heisenberg Group. The considered hypothesis for the growth and ellipticity condition is a natural generalization of the p-Laplace equation and more general quasilinear elliptic equations with polynomial or exponential type growth.
We prove local Lipschitz regularity for bounded minimizers of functionals with nonstandard $p,q$-growth with the source term in the Lorentz space $L(N,1)$ under the restriction $q<p+1+p\,\min\left\{\frac 1N,\frac{2(p-1)}{Np-2p+2}\right\}$. This extends the recent work by Beck-Mingione to bounded minimizers under weaker hypothesis and is sharp for some special ranges of $p$, $q$ and $N$.
We study the doubly nonlinear PDE $$ |\partial_t u|^{p-2}\,\partial_t u-\textrm{div}(|\nabla u|^{p-2}\nabla u)=0. $$ This equation arises in the study of extremals of Poincaré inequalities in Sobolev spaces. We prove spatial Lipschitz continuity and Hölder continuity in time of order $(p-1)/p$ for viscosity solutions. As an application of our estimates, we obtain pointwise control of the large time behavior of solutions.
We use the scale $B^s_τ(L_τ(Ω))$, $1/τ=s/d+1/2$, $s>0$, to study the regularity of the stationary Stokes equation on bounded Lipschitz domains $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^d$, $d\geq 3$, with connected boundary. The regularity in these Besov spaces determines the order of convergence of nonlinear approximation schemes. Our proofs rely on a combination of weighted Sobolev estimates and wavelet characterizations of Besov spaces. By using Banach's fixed point theorem, we extend this analysis to the stationary Navier-Stokes equation with suitable Reynolds number and data, respectively.
In this paper we prove the Lipschitz regularity for local minimizers of convex variational integrals of the form \[ \mathfrak{F}( v, Ω)= \int_Ω \! F(x, Dv(x)) \, dx, \] where, for ${n > 2}$ and $N\ge 1$, $Ω$ is a bounded open set in $\mathbb{R}^n$, $u \in W^{1,1}(Ω, \mathbb{R}^N)$ and the energy density $F:Ω\times \mathbb{R}^{N \times n}\to \mathbb{R}$ satisfies the so called variable growth conditions. The main novelty of the paper is that we assume an almost critical regularity in the Orlicz Sobolev setting for the energy density as a function of the $x$ variable.
In this paper, we provide suitable adaptations of the "weak version of Bernstein method" introduced by the first author in 1991, in order to obtain Lipschitz regularity results and Lipschitz estimates for nonlinear integro-differential elliptic and parabolic equations set in the whole space. Our interest is to obtain such Lipschitz results to possibly degenerate equations, or to equations which are indeed "uniformly el-liptic" (maybe in the nonlocal sense) but which do not satisfy the usual "growth condition" on the gradient term allowing to use (for example) the Ishii-Lions' method. We treat …
We are interested in the inverse problem of recovering a Robin coefficient defined on some non accessible part of the boundary from available data on another part of the boundary in the nonstationary Stokes system. We prove a Lipschitz stability estimate under the \textit{a priori} assumption that the Robin coefficient lives in some compact and convex subset of a finite dimensional vectorial subspace of the set of continuous functions. To do so, we use a theorem proved by L. Bourgeois which establishes Lipschitz stability estimates for a class of inverse problems in an abstract framework.
We consider critical points of the geometric obstacle problem on vectorial maps $u: \mathbb{B}^2 \subset \mathbb{R}^2 \to \mathbb{R}^N$ \[ \int_{\mathbb{B}^2} |\nabla u|^2 \quad \mbox{subject to $u \in \mathbb{R}^N \backslash \mathbb{B}^N(0)$}. \] Our main result is $C^{1,α}$-regularity for any $α< 1$. Technically, we split the map $u=λv$, where $v: \mathbb{B}^2 \to \mathbb{S}^{N-1}$ is the vectorial component and $λ= |u|$ the scalar component measuring the distance to the origin. While $v$ satisfies a weighted harmonic map equation with weight $λ^2$, $λ$ solves the obstacle problem for \[ \in…
For a linear, strictly elliptic second order differential operator in divergence form with bounded, measurable coefficients on a Lipschitz domain $Ω$ we show that solutions of the corresponding elliptic problem with Robin and thus in particular with Neumann boundary conditions are Hoelder continuous for sufficiently $L^p$-regular right-hand sides. From this we deduce that the parabolic problem with Robin or Wentzell-Robin boundary conditions are well-posed on $\mathrm{C}(\barΩ)$.
We study regularity properties of the free boundary for the thin one-phase problem which consists of minimizing the energy functional $$\label{E} E(u,Ω) = \int_Ω|\nabla u|^2 dX + \mathcal{H}^n(\{u>0\} \cap \{x_{n+1} = 0\}), \quad Ω\subset \R^{n+1},$$ among all functions $u\ge 0$ which are fixed on $\p Ω$. We prove that the free boundary $F(u)=\p_{\R^n}\{u>0\}$ of a minimizer $u$ has locally finite $\mathcal{H}^{n-1}$ measure and is a $C^{2,α}$ surface except on a small singular set of Hausdorff dimension $n-3$. We also obtain $C^{2,α}$ regularity of Lipschitz free boundaries of viscosity solut…
In this paper we are interested in integro-differential elliptic and parabolic equations involving nonlocal operators with order less than one, and a gradient term whose coercivity growth makes it the leading term in the equation. We obtain Lipschitz regularity results for the associated stationary Dirichlet problem in the case when the nonlocality of the operator is confined to the domain, feature which is known in the literature as censored nonlocality. As an application of this result, we obtain strong comparison principles which allow us to prove the well-posedness of both the stationary a…
We establish new Hoelder and Lipschitz estimates for viscosity solutions of a large class of elliptic and parabolic nonlinear integro-differential equations, by the classical Ishii-Lions's method. We thus extend the Hoelder regularity results recently obtained by Barles, Chasseigne and Imbert (2011). In addition, we deal with a new class of nonlocal equations that we term mixed integro-differential equations. These equations are particularly interesting, as they are degenerate both in the local and nonlocal term, but their overall behavior is driven by the local-nonlocal interaction, e.g. the …
We study the optimal sets $Ω^\ast\subset\mathbb{R}^d$ for spectral functionals $F\big(λ_1(Ω),\dots,λ_p(Ω)\big)$, which are bi-Lipschitz with respect to each of the eigenvalues $λ_1(Ω),\dots,λ_p(Ω)$ of the Dirichlet Laplacian on $Ω$, a prototype being the problem $$ \min{\big\{λ_1(Ω)+\dots+ λ_p(Ω)\;:\;Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^d,\ |Ω|=1\big\}}. $$ We prove the Lipschitz regularity of the eigenfunctions $u_1,\dots,u_p$ of the Dirichlet Laplacian on the optimal set $Ω^*$ and, as a corollary, we deduce that $Ω^*$ is open. For functionals depending only on a generic subset of the spectrum, as for example …
