We study a filtered Lie splitting scheme for the cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation. We establish error estimates at low regularity by using discrete Bourgain spaces. This allows us to handle data in $H^s$ with $0<s<1$ overcoming the standard stability restriction to smooth Sobolev spaces with index $s>1/2$ . More precisely, we prove convergence rates of order $τ^{s/2}$ in $L^2$ at this level of regularity.
We introduce a new non-resonant low-regularity integrator for the cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) allowing for long-time error estimates which are optimal in the sense of the underlying PDE. The main idea thereby lies in treating the zeroth mode exactly within the discretization. For long-time error estimates, we rigorously establish the long-time error bounds of different low-regularity integrators for the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) with small initial data characterized by a dimensionless parameter $\varepsilon \in (0, 1]$. We begin with the low-regularity integrator fo…

In this paper, we propose a new scheme for the integration of the periodic nonlinear Schrödinger equation and rigorously prove convergence rates at low regularity. The new integrator has decisive advantages over standard schemes at low regularity. In particular, it is able to handle initial data in $H^s$ for $0 < s\le 1$. The key feature of the integrator is its ability to distinguish between low and medium frequencies in the solution and to treat them differently in the discretization. This new approach requires a well-balanced filtering procedure which is carried out in Fourier space. The co…
We propose a novel class of uniformly accurate integrators for the Klein--Gordon equation which capture classical $c=1$ as well as highly-oscillatory non-relativistic regimes $c\gg1$ and, at the same time, allow for low regularity approximations. In particular, the schemes converge with order $τ$ and $τ^2$, respectively, under lower regularity assumptions than classical schemes, such as splitting or exponential integrator methods, require. The new schemes in addition preserve the nonlinear Schrödinger (NLS) limit on the discrete level. More precisely, we will design our schemes in such a way t…

The numerical approximation of the semilinear Klein--Gordon equation in the $d$-dimensional space, with $d=1,2,3$, is studied by analyzing the consistency errors in approximating the solution. By discovering and utilizing a new cancellation structure in the semilinear Klein--Gordon equation, a low-regularity correction of the Lie splitting method is constructed, which can have second-order convergence in the energy space under the regularity condition $(u,\partial_tu)\in L^\infty(0,T;H^{1+\frac{d}{4}}\times H^{\frac{d}{4}})$, where $d=1,2,3$ denotes the dimension of space. In one dimension, th…

We establish improved uniform error bounds for the time-splitting methods for the long-time dynamics of the Schrödinger equation with small potential and the nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE) with weak nonlinearity. For the Schrödinger equation with small potential characterized by a dimensionless parameter $\varepsilon \in (0, 1]$ representing the amplitude of the potential, we employ the unitary flow property of the (second-order) time-splitting Fourier pseudospectral (TSFP) method in $L^2$-norm to prove a uniform error bound at $C(T)(h^m +τ^2)$ up to the long time $T_\varepsilon= T/\var…
In this paper, we propose and analyze an adaptive time-stepping fully discrete scheme which possesses the optimal strong convergence order for the stochastic nonlinear Schrödinger equation with multiplicative noise. Based on the splitting skill and the adaptive strategy, the $H^1$-exponential integrability of the numerical solution is obtained, which is a key ingredient to derive the strong convergence order. We show that the proposed scheme converges strongly with orders $\frac12$ in time and $2$ in space. To investigate the numerical asymptotic behavior, we establish the large deviation prin…

We propose a new class of uniformly accurate splitting methods for the Benjamin-Bona-Mahony equation which converge uniformly in the dispersive parameter $\varepsilon$. The proposed splitting schemes are furthermore asymptotic convergent and preserve the KdV limit. We carry out a rigorous convergence analysis of the splitting schemes exploiting the smoothing properties in the system. This will allow us to establish improved error bounds with gain either in regularity (for non smooth solutions) or in the dispersive parameter $\varepsilon$. The latter will be interesting in regimes of a small di…
We consider various filtered time discretizations of the periodic Korteweg--de Vries equation: a filtered exponential integrator, a filtered Lie splitting scheme as well as a filtered resonance based discretisation and establish convergence error estimates at low regularity. Our analysis is based on discrete Bourgain spaces and allows to prove convergence in $L^2$ for rough data $u_{0} \in H^s,$ $s>0$ with an explicit convergence rate.
Improved uniform error bounds on time-splitting methods are rigorously proven for the long-time dynamics of the weakly nonlinear Dirac equation (NLDE), where the nonlinearity strength is characterized by a dimensionless parameter $\varepsilon \in (0, 1]$ . We adopt a second order Strang splitting method to discretize the NLDE in time and combine the Fourier pseudospectral method in space for the full-discretization. By employing the {\sl regularity compensation oscillation} (RCO) technique where the high frequency modes are controlled by the regularity of the exact solution and the low frequen…

We establish improved uniform error bounds on time-splitting methods for the long-time dynamics of the Dirac equation with small electromagnetic potentials characterized by a dimensionless parameter $\varepsilon\in (0, 1]$ representing the amplitude of the potentials. We begin with a semi-discritization of the Dirac equation in time by a time-splitting method, and then followed by a full-discretization in space by the Fourier pseudospectral method. Employing the unitary flow property of the second-order time-splitting method for the Dirac equation, we prove uniform error bounds at $C(t)τ^2$ an…
We establish improved uniform error bounds on time-splitting methods for the long-time dynamics of the nonlinear Klein--Gordon equation (NKGE) with weak cubic nonlinearity, whose strength is characterized by $\varepsilon^2$ with $0 < \varepsilon \leq 1$ a dimensionless parameter. Actually, when $0 < \varepsilon \ll 1$, the NKGE with $O(\varepsilon^2)$ nonlinearity and $O(1)$ initial data is equivalent to that with $O(1)$ nonlinearity and small initial data of which the amplitude is at $O(\varepsilon)$. We begin with a semi-discretization of the NKGE by the second-order time-splitting method, a…
This paper focuses on the construction and analysis of explicit numerical methods of high dimensional stochastic nonlinear Schrodinger equations (SNLSEs). We first prove that the classical explicit numerical methods are unstable and suffer from the numerical divergence phenomenon. Then we propose a kind of explicit splitting numerical methods and prove that the structure-preserving splitting strategy is able to enhance the numerical stability. Furthermore, we establish the regularity analysis and strong convergence analysis of the proposed schemes for SNLSEs based on two key ingredients. One i…
In this paper, we establish the optimal convergence result of a second order exponential-type integrator from (136, Numer. Math., 2017) for solving the KdV equation under rough initial data. The scheme is explicit and efficient to implement. By rigorous error analysis, we show that the scheme provides the second order accuracy in $H^γ$ for initial data in $H^{γ+4}$ for any $γ\geq0$, where the regularity requirement is lower than the classical methods. The result is confirmed by numerical experiments and comparisons are made with the Strang splitting scheme.
We analyse a class of time discretizations for solving the nonlinear Schrödinger equation with non-smooth potential and at low-regularity on an arbitrary Lipschitz domain $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^d$, $d \le 3$. We show that these schemes, together with their optimal local error structure, allow for convergence under lower regularity assumptions on both the solution and the potential than is required by classical methods, such as splitting or exponential integrator methods. Moreover, we show first and second order convergence in the case of periodic boundary conditions, in any fractional positive S…
In this study, we consider the nonlinear Schödinger equation (NLS) with the zero-boundary condition on a two- or three-dimensional large finite cubic lattice. We prove that its solution converges to that of the NLS on the entire Euclidean space with simultaneous reduction in the lattice distance and expansion of the domain. Moreover, we obtain a precise global-in-time bound for the rate of convergence. Our proof heavily relies on Strichartz estimates on a finite lattice. A key observation is that, compared to the case of a lattice with a fixed size [Y. Hong, C. Kwak, S. Nakamura, and C. Yang, …
