We explore the tunability of the phonon polarization in suspended uniaxially strained graphene by magneto-phonon resonances. The uniaxial strain lifts the degeneracy of the LO and TO phonons, yielding two cross-linearly polarized phonon modes and a splitting of the Raman G peak. We utilize the strong electron-phonon coupling in graphene and the off-resonant coupling to a magneto-phonon resonance to induce a gate-tunable circular phonon dichroism. This, together with the strain-induced splitting of the G peak, allows us to controllably tune the two linearly polarized G mode phonons into circular phonon modes. We are able to achieve a circular phonon polarization of up to 40 % purely by electrostatic fields and can reverse its sign by tuning from electron to hole doping. This provides unprecedented electrostatic control over the angular momentum of phonons, which paves the way toward phononic applications.
The polarization of conduction electron spins due to an electrical current is observed in strained nonmagnetic semiconductors using static and time-resolved Faraday rotation. The density, lifetime, and orientation rate of the electrically-polarized spins are characterized by a combination of optical and electrical methods. In addition, the dynamics of the current-induced spins are investigated by utilizing electrical pulses generated from a photoconductive switch. These results demonstrate the possibility of a spin source for semiconductor spintronic devices without the use of magnetic materia…
The superposition of topological phonons and flexoelectronic charge separation in an inhomogeneously strain Si give rise to topological electronic magnetism of phonons. The topological electronic magnetism of phonons is also expected to give rise to stationary spin current or spin superfluidity. In this experimental study, we present possible evidence of spin superfluidity in an inhomogeneously strained p-Si thin films samples. The spin superfluidity is uncovered using non-local resistance measurement. A resonance behavior is observed in a non-local resistance measurement at 10 kHz and between…
The superposition of flexoelectronic doping and topological phonons give rise to topological electronic magnetism of phonon in an inhomogeneously strained Si in the bilayer structure with metal. In case of ferromagnetic metal and Si bilayer structure, the flexoelectronic doping will also give rise to larger spin current, which will lead to large spin to charge conversion due to topological electronic magnetism of phonon. By applying a temperature difference to ferromagnetic metal/Si bilayer structure under an applied strain gradient, a large thermoelectric response can be generated. In this ex…
Transverse acoustic waves in an inhomogeneous medium are analogues to electromagnetic waves and will exhibit topological behavior due to the Berry gauge potential in the momentum space due to inhomogeneity. The inhomogeneous (or gradient) medium can be created using an applied strain gradient in a semiconductor thin film (silicon) since the phonon frequency and dispersion will be a function of the local strain along the strain gradient direction. As a consequence, topological phonon mediated spin and heat transport can be engineered in the semiconductor thin films. Here, we present evidence of…
An L-shaped strained n-InGaAs channel is used to polarize and subsequently rotate electron spins solely by means of electric fields. Precession of electrically-excited spins in the absence of applied magnetic fields is directly observed by Kerr rotation microscopy. In addition, in-plane and out-of-plane components of the spin polarization in the channel are simultaneously imaged.
In this paper, electrical and electronic properties of strained mono-layer InTe for two structures, $α$, and $β$ phases, is investigated. The band structure is obtained using density functional theory (DFT). The minimum energy and effective mass of the conduction band and second conduction band for different strains are calculated. A FET with using InTe as the channel material is investigated. Voltage-current characteristics of InTe FET is calculated and I$_{ON}$/I$_{OFF}$ ratio is obtained with respect to biaxial strain.
In this study, we report first experimental evidence of spin-momentum locking in the topological phonons in an inhomogeneously strained Si thin film. The spin-momentum locking in the topological phonons lead to a longitudinal spin texture or spatially inhomogeneous spin distribution in the freestanding sample structure. The spin texture was uncovered using location dependent Hall effect and planar Hall effect measurement. The charge carrier density and anomalous Hall resistance showed a linear behavior along the length of the sample. Similarly, the planar Hall resistance related with the spin …
We derive the frequency shifts and the broadening of $Γ$ point longitudinal optical (LO) and transverse optical (TO) phonon modes, due to electron-phonon interaction, in graphene under uniaxial strain as a function of the electron density and the disorder amount. We show that, in the absence of a shear strain component, such interaction gives rise to a lifting of the degeneracy of the LO and TO modes which contributes to the splitting of the G Raman band. The anisotropy of the electronic spectrum, induced by the strain, results in a polarization dependence of the LO and TO modes. This dependen…
We investigate the effect of strain and isotopic disorder on thermal transport in suspended graphene by equilibrium molecular dynamics simulations. We show that the thermal conductivity of unstrained graphene, calculated from the fluctuations of the heat current at equilibrium is finite and converges with size at finite temperature. In contrast, the thermal conductivity of strained graphene diverges logarithmically with the size of the models, when strain exceeds a relatively large threshold value of 2%. An analysis of phonon populations and lifetimes explains the divergence of the thermal con…
One of the unique properties of graphene is its extremely high mechanical strength. Several studies have shown that the mechanical failure of graphene sheet under a tensile strain is due to the enhancement of the Kohn anomaly of the zone boundary transverse optical phonon modes. In this work, we derive an analytical expression of the Kohn anomaly parameter $α_{\vec{K}}$ of these phonons in graphene deformed by a uniaxial strain along the armchair direction. We show that, the tilt of Dirac cones, induced by the strain, contributes to the enhancement of the Kohn anomaly under a tensile deformati…
We numerically analyze the interaction of small-amplitude phonon waves with standing gap discrete breather (DB) in strained graphene. To make the system support gap DB, strain is applied to create a gap in the phonon spectrum. We only focus on the in-plane phonons and DB, so the issue is investigated under a quasi-one-dimensional setup. It is found that, for the longitudinal sound waves having frequencies below 6 THz, DB is transparent and thus no radiation of energy from DB takes place; whereas for those sound waves with higher frequencies within the acoustic (optical) phonon band, phonon is …
The spatially inhomogeneity in a magnetic crystal give rise to electric polarization, which is known as inhomogeneous magnetoelectric effect. Similarly, an inhomogeneous magnetoelectronic effect in a conducting multiferroic material give rise to spatially inhomogeneous magnetic moment and spin distribution due to spatially inhomogeneity in the charge carrier concentration. In this study, we present experimental evidence of inhomogeneous magnetoelectronic effect in Py/p-Si layered structure. The Py/p-Si layered structure exhibit electronic multiferroicity due to superposition of flexoelectronic…
Based on first-principles approaches, we study the ballistic phonon transport properties of finite monatomic carbon chains stretched between graphene nanoribbons, an $sp$-$sp^2$ hybrid carbon nanostructure that has recently seen significant experimental advances in its synthesis. We find that the lattice thermal conductance anomalously increases with tensile strain for the even-numbered carbon chains that adopt the alternating bond-length polyyne configuration. On the other hand, in the odd-numbered carbon chain cases, which assume the equal bond-length cumulene configuration, phonon conductan…
In this paper, the chiral Hall effect of strained Weyl semimetals without any external magnetic field is proposed. Electron-phonon coupling emerges in the low-energy fermionic sector through a pseudogauge potential. We show that, by using chiral kinetic theory, the chiral Hall effect appears as a response to a real time-varying electric field in the presence of structural distortion and it causes spatial chirality and charges separation in a Weyl system. We also show that the coupling of the electrons to acoustic phonons as a gapless excitation leads to emerging an optical absorption peak at $…
NiO thin films with various strains were grown on SrTiO3 (STO) and MgO substrates using a pulsed laser deposition technique. The films were characterized using an x-ray diffractometer, atomic force microscopy, and infrared reflectance spectroscopy. The films grown on STO (001) substrate show a compressive in-plane strain which increases as the film thickness is reduced, resulting in an increase of the NiO phonon frequency. On the other hand, a tensile strain was detected in the NiO film grown on MgO (001) substrate which induces a softening of the phonon frequency. Overall, the variation of in…
A double peak structure in the magneto-phonon resonance (MPR) spectrum of uniaxial strained graphene, under crossed electric and magnetic fields, is predicted. We focus on the $Γ$ point optical phonon modes coupled to the inter-Landau level transitions $0 \leftrightarrows \pm 1$ where MPR is expected to be more pronounced at high magnetic field. We derive the frequency shifts and the broadenings of the longitudinal (LO) and transverse (TO) optical phonon modes taking into account the effect of the strain modified electronic spectrum on the electron-phonon coupling. We show that the MPR lines a…
Using first-principles density functional theoretical analysis, we predict coexisting ferroelectric and semi-metallic states in two-dimensional monolayer of h-NbN subjected to electric field and in-plane strain ($ε$). At strains close to $ε$=4.85%, where its out-of-plane spontaneous polarization changes sign without inverting the structure, we demonstrate a hysteretic response of its structure and polarization to electric field, and uncover a three-state (P=$\pm$P$_o$Po, 0) switching during which h-NbN passes through Dirac semi-metallic states. With first-principles evidence for a combination …
Using Ensemble Monte Carlo simulations the photocurrent in a 500nm long strained [110] silicon nanowire with diameter of 3.1 nm is investigated. It was observed that a phototransistor based on this nanowire can have responsivities in the order of 21.3 mA/W for an input light wavelength of 532 nm and intensity of 0.25-2.5 kW/cm2. The super-unity slope of 1.2 in photo conductance versus input light intensity suggests that the nanowire has a photoconductive gain and highlights its advantage over germanium nanowires with sub-unity slope (0.77). The generated photocurrents are in the 0.1 nA-1 nA ra…
The valleys in hexagonal two-dimensional systems with broken inversion symmetry carry an intrinsic orbital magnetic moment. Despite this, such systems possess zero net magnetization unless additional symmetries are broken, since the contributions from both valleys cancel. A nonzero net magnetization can be induced through applying both uniaxial strain to break the rotational symmetry of the lattice and an in-plane electric field to break time-reversal symmetry owing to the resulting current. This creates a magnetoelectric effect whose strength is characterized by a magnetoelectric susceptibili…
We present a first-principles study of the temperature- and density-dependent intrinsic electrical resistivity of graphene. We use density-functional theory and density-functional perturbation theory together with very accurate Wannier interpolations to compute all electronic and vibrational properties and electron-phonon coupling matrix elements; the phonon-limited resistivity is then calculated within a Boltzmann-transport approach. An effective tight-binding model, validated against first-principles results, is also used to study the role of electron-electron interactions at the level of ma…
Phonon carrier interactions can have significant impact on device performance. They can be probed by measuring the phonon lifetime, which reflects the interaction strength of a phonon with other quasi-particles in particular charge carriers as well as its companion phonons. The carrier phonon and phonon-phonon contributions to the phonon lifetime can be disentangled from temperature dependent studies. Here, we address the importance of phonon carrier interactions in Joule-heated graphene constrictions in order to contribute to the understanding of energy dissipation in graphene based electroni…
We present a study on the uniformity of the pseudomagnetic field in graphene as a function of the relative orientation between the graphene lattice and straining directions. For this, we strained a regular micron-sized graphene hexagon by deforming it symmetrically by displacing three of its edges. By simulations, we found that the pseudomagnetic field is strongest if the strain is applied perpendicular to the armchair direction of graphene. For a hexagon with a side length of 1 ${\rm μ}$m, the pseudomagnetic field has a maximum of 1.2 T for an applied strain of 3.5% and it is uniform (varianc…
Recent advances in strain engineering at the nanoscale have shown the feasibility to modulate the properties of graphene. Although the electron-phonon (e-ph) coupling and Kohn anomalies in graphene define the phonon branches contributing to the resonance Raman scattering, and is relevant to the electronic and thermal transport as a scattering source, the evolution of the e-ph coupling as a function of strain has been less studied. In this work, the Kohn anomalies and the e-ph coupling in uniaxially strained graphene along armchair (AC) and zigzag (ZZ) directions were studied by means of densit…
We find that in BaTiO$_3$ the phonon angular momentum is dominantly pointing in directions perpendicular to the electrical polarization. Therefore, external electric field in ferroelectric BaTiO$_3$ does not control only the direction of electrical polarization, but also the direction of phonon angular momentum. This finding opens up the possibility for electric-field control of physical phenomena that rely on phonon angular momentum. We construct an intuitive model, based on our first-principles calculations, that captures the origin of the relationship between phonon angular momentum and ele…
High bias electrical transport characteristics of freely suspended metallic single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) are investigated at 250-400K in vacuum and various gases. Self-heating is exploited to examine the temperature dependence of phonon transport and optical phonon decay in SWNTs. The acoustic phonon thermal conductivity of a SWNT follows ~1/T at high temperatures. Non-equilibrium optical phonon effects in suspended nanotubes decrease as the ambient temperature increases. Gas molecules assist the relaxation of hot optical phonons along the tube length and enable enhanced current flow…
Electronic transport in a model molecular device coupled to local phonon modes is theoretically analyzed. The method allows for obtaining an accurate approximation of the system's quantum state irrespective of the electron and phonon energy scales. Nonlinear electrical features emerge from the calculated current-voltage characteristics. The quantum corrections with respect to the adiabatic limit characterize the transport scenario, and the polaronic reduction of the effective device-lead coupling plays a fundamental role in the unusual electrical features.
In the present molecular dynamics study, external ac driving is used at frequencies outside the phonon spectrum to excite gap DBs in uniformly strained graphene nanoribbon. Harmonic displacement or harmonic force is applied to a zigzag atomic chain of graphene. In the former case non-propagating DBs are excited on the atoms next to the driven atoms, while in the latter case the excited DBs propagate along the nanoribbon. The energy transfer along the nanoribbon assisted by the DBs is investigated in detail and the differences between harmonic displacement driving and harmonic force driving are…
We report the influence of uniaxial tensile mechanical strain in the range 0-2.2% on the phonon spectra and bandstructures of monolayer and bilayer molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) two-dimensional crystals. First, we employ Raman spectroscopy to observe phonon softening with increased strain, breaking the degeneracy in the E' Raman mode of MoS2, and extract a Grüneisen parameter of ~1.06. Second, using photoluminescence spectroscopy we measure a decrease in the optical band gap of MoS2 that is roughly linear with strain, ~45 meV% strain for monolayer MoS2 and ~120 meV% strain for bilayer MoS2. Thir…
We report the inclusion of phonon scattering to our recently established numerical package QmeQ for transport in quantum dot systems. This enables straightforward calculations for a large variety of devices. As examples we show (i) transport in a double-dot structure, where energy relaxation is crucial to match the energy difference between the levels, and (ii) the generation of electrical power by contacting cold electric contacts with quantum dot states, which are subjected to heated phonons.
The interplay of massive electrons with spin-orbit coupling in bulk graphene results in a spin-valley dependent gap. Thus, a barrier with such properties can act as a filter, transmitting only opposite spins from opposite valleys. In this Letter we show that strain induced pseudomagnetic field in such a barrier will enforce opposite cyclotron trajectories for the filtered valleys, leading to their spatial separation. Since spin is coupled to the valley in the filtered states, this also leads to spin separation, demonstrating a spin-valley filtering effect. The filtering behavior is found to be…
The electron-phonon interaction and related transport properties are investigated in monolayer silicene and MoS2 by using a density functional theory calculation combined with a full-band Monte Carlo analysis. In the case of silicene, the results illustrate that the out-of-plane acoustic phonon mode may play the dominant role unlike its close relative - graphene. The small energy of this phonon mode, originating from the weak sp2 bonding between Si atoms, contributes to the high scattering rate and significant degradation in electron transport. In MoS2, the longitudinal acoustic phonons show t…
We demonstrate significant modification of the electron-phonon energy loss rate in a many-valley semiconductor system due to lattice mismatch induced strain. We show that the thermal conductance from the electron system to the phonon bath in strained n + Si, at phonon temperatures between 200 mK and 450 mK, is more than an order of magnitude lower than that for a similar unstrained sample.
We examine the intrinsic energy dissipation steps in electrically biased graphene channels. By combining in-situ measurements of the spontaneous optical emission with a Raman spectroscopy study of the graphene sample under conditions of current flow, we obtain independent information on the energy distribution of the electrons and phonons. The electrons and holes contributing to light emission are found to obey a thermal distribution, with temperatures in excess of 1500 K in the regime of current saturation. The zone-center optical phonons are also highly excited and are found to be in equilib…
We describe the formation of superconducting states in graphene in the presence of pseudo-Landau levels induced by strain, when time reversal symmetry is preserved. We show that superconductivity in strained graphene is quantum critical when the pseudo-Landau levels are completely filled, whereas at partial fillings superconductivity survives at weak coupling. In the weak coupling limit, the critical temperature scales \emph{linearly} with the coupling strength and shows a sequence of quantum critical points as a function of the filling factor that can be accessed experimentally. We argue that…
We describe an approach to electrically control the strong interaction between a single electron spin and the vibrational motion of a suspended carbon nanotube resonator. The strength of the deflection-induced spin-phonon coupling is dependent on the wavefunction of the electron confined in a lateral carbon nanotube quantum dot. An electrical field along the nanotube shifts the effective center of the quantum dot, leading to the corresponding modification of the spin-phonon strength. Numerical simulations with experimentally reachable parameters show that high fidelity quantum state transfer b…
Most studies of the mean-free path accumulation function (MFPAF) rely on optical techniques to probe heat transfer at length scales on the order of the phonon mean-free path. In this paper, we propose and implement a purely electrical probe of the MFPAF that relies on photo-lithographically defined heater-thermometer separation to set the length scale. An important advantage of the proposed technique is its insensitivity to the thermal interfacial impedance and its compatibility with a large array of temperature-controlled chambers that lack optical ports. Detailed analysis of the experimental…
We study the electronic and optical properties of strained single-layer SnC in the density functional theory (DFT) and tight-binding models. We extract the hopping parameters tight-binding Hamiltonian for monolayer SnC by considering the DFT results as a reference point. We also examine the phonon spectra in the scheme of DFT, and analyze the bonding character by using Mulliken bond population. Moreover, we show that the band gap modulation and transition from indirect to direct band gap in the compressive strained SnC. The applied tensile strain reduces the band gap and eventually the semicon…
Based on the symmetry properties of graphene lattice, we derive the effective Hamiltonian of graphene under spatially non-uniform acoustic and optical strains. We show that with the proper selection of the parameters, the obtained Hamiltonian reproduces the results of first-principles spectrum calculations for acoustic strain up to 10%. The results are generalized for the case of graphene with broken plane reflection symmetry, which corresponds, for example, to the case of graphene placed at a substrate. Here, essential modifications to the Hamiltonian give rise, in particular, to the gap open…
We present the first Raman spectroscopic study of Bernal bilayer graphene flakes under uniaxial tension. Apart from a purely mechanical behavior in flake regions where both layers are strained evenly, certain effects stem from inhomogeneous stress distribution across the layers. These phenomena such as the removal of inversion symmetry in bilayer graphene may have important implications in the band-gap engineering providing an alternative route to induce the formation of a band-gap.
We discuss the BCS theory for electrons in graphene with a superimposed electrical unidirectional superlattice potential (SL). New Dirac points emerge together with van Hove singularities (VHS) linking them. We obtain a superconducting transition temperature $ T_c $ for chemical potentials close to the VHS assuming that acoustic phonon coupling should be the dominant mechanism. Pairing of two onsite electrons with one electron close to the $ {\bf K} $ and the other close to the $ -{\bf K} $ point is the most stable pair formation. The resulting order parameter is almost constant over the entir…
Phonon polaritons in natural anisotropic crystals hold great promise for infrared nano-optics. However, the direct electrical control of these polaritons is difficult, preventing the development of active polaritonic devices. Here we propose the heterostructures of graphene on a biaxial crystal (α-phase molybdenum trioxide) slab and theoretically study the hybridized plasmon-phonon polaritons with dependence on the Fermi level of graphene from three aspects: dispersion relationships, iso-frequency contours, and the quantum spin Hall effects. We demonstrate the distinct wavelength tunability of…
We combine first-principles calculations and Boltzmann transport theory to study the electrical transport properties of intermetallic compound YbAl3. To accurately predict the electronic relaxation time, we use the density functional perturbation theory and Wannier interpolation techniques which can effectively treat the electron-phonon scattering. Our calculated transport coefficients of YbAl3 are in reasonable agreement with the experimentally measured results. Strikingly, we discover that in evaluating the Seebeck coefficient of YbAl3, the scattering term has a larger contribution than the …
Silver nanowires have great application potential in fields like flexible electronic devices, solar cells and transparent electrodes. It is critical and fundamental to study the thermal and electrical transport properties in a single silver nanowire. In this work, the thermal and electrical transport in an individual silver nanowire is characterized down to 35 K with the steady state electro-thermal technique. The results indicate that, at room temperature, the electrical resistivity increases by around 4 folds compared from that of its bulk counterpart. After fitting the temperature dependent…
We report a comprehensive study of the tuning with electric fields of the resonant magneto-exciton optical phonon coupling in gated graphene. For magnetic fields around $B \sim 25$ T which correspond to the range of the fundamental magneto-phonon resonance, the electron-phonon coupling can be switched on and off by tuning the position of the Fermi level in order to Pauli block the two fundamental inter Landau level excitations. The effects of such a profound change in the electronic excitation spectrum are traced through investigations of the optical phonon response in polarization resolved ma…
We present an empirical model for the nearballistic transport in carbon nanotube (CNT) transistors used as strain sensors. This model describes the intrinsic effect of strain on the transport in CNTs by taking into account phonon scattering and thermally activated charge carriers. As this model relies on a semiempirical description of the electronic bands, different levels of electronic structure calculations can be used as input. The results show that the electronic structure of strained single-walled CNTs with a radius larger than 0.7nm can be described by a fully analytical model in the sen…
We report electrical transport experiments using the phenomenon of electrical breakdown to perform thermometry that probe the thermal properties of individual multi-walled nanotubes. Our results show that nanotubes can readily conduct heat by ballistic phonon propagation, reaching a quantum-mechanical limit to thermal conductance. We determine the thermal conductance quantum, the ultimate limit to thermal conductance for a single phonon channel, and find good agreement with theoretical calculations. Moreover, our results suggest a breakdown mechanism of thermally activated C-C bond breaking co…
The interplay between discrete vibrational and electronic degrees of freedom directly influences the chemical and physical properties of molecular systems. This coupling is typically studied through optical methods such as fluorescence, absorption, and Raman spectroscopy. Molecular electronic devices provide new opportunities for exploring vibration-electronic interactions at the single molecule level. For example, electrons injected from a scanning tunneling microscope tip into a metal can excite vibrational excitations of a molecule in the gap between tip and metal. Here we show how current …
The topic of this review is the effects of electron-phonon interaction (EPI) on the transport properties of molecular nano-conductors. A nano-conductor connects to two electron leads and two phonon leads, possibly at different temperatures or chemical potentials. The EPI appears only in the nano-conductor. We focus on its effects on charge and energy transport. We introduce three approaches. For weak EPI, we use the nonequilibrium Green's function method to treat it perturbatively. We derive the expressions for the charge and heat currents. For weak system-lead couplings, we use the quantum ma…
We theoretically study the electrical, thermal and thermoelectric transport properties of graphene nanoribbons under torsional deformations. The modelling follows a nonequilibrium Green's function approach in the ballistic transport regime, describing the electrical and phononic properties through \textit{ab-initio} density functional theory and empirical interatomic potentials, respectively. We consider two different types of deformations, a continuous twist of a given angle applied to the nanoribbon, and two consecutive twists applied in opposite angular directions. The numerical results are…
Hole spins in semiconductors are a potential qubit alternative to electron spins. In nuclear-spin-rich host crystals like GaAs, the hyperfine interaction of hole spins with nuclei is considerably weaker than that for electrons, leading to potentially longer coherence times. Here we demonstrate optical pumping and coherent population trapping for acceptor-bound holes in a strained GaAs epitaxial layer. We find $μ$s-scale longitudinal spin relaxation time T$_1$ and an inhomogeneous dephasing time T$_2^*$ of $\sim$7~ns. We attribute the spin relaxation mechanism to a combination effect of a hole-…
In a recent paper [R. Soto-Garrido and E. Muñoz, J. Phys. Condens. Matter 30, 195302 (2018)], we studied the electronic transport properties in Weyl semimetals (WSMs) submitted to the combined effects of torsional mechanical strain and magnetic field, showing that this configuration induces a node-polarization effect on the current that can be used to measure the torsion angle from transmission experiments. In this article, we extend our previous work to study thermoelectric transport in WSMs under torsional strain and an external magnetic field. Our analysis involves only the electronic contr…
Debye temperature decrease, residual resistivity increase and electron-phonon coupling constant increase as crystallite size decreases have been found from electrical resistivity in temperature range 5 K to 300 K of well-characterized Ag nanoparticles synthesized with oleylamine, trioctylphosphine and/ polyvinylpyrrolidone with Scherrer sizes ranging from 15.1 nm to 33.4 nm. Notably, about 36 % reduction in Debye temperature in 15.1 nm compared to bulk Ag is found. Remarkably, usual phonon drag peak found in Seebeck coefficient for bulk Ag turned into dips or phonon drag minima in these NPs th…
We consider metallic carbon nanotubes with an overlying unidirectional electrical chiral (wavevector out of the radial direction, where the axial direction is included) superlattice potential. We show that for superlattices with a wavevector close to the axial direction, the electron velocity assumes the same value as for nanotubes without superlattice. Due to an increased number of phonons with different momenta but lower electron-phonon scattering probabilities, we obtain a large enhancement of the high-voltage conductance and current sustainability in comparison with the nanotube without su…
We investigate the effect of strain along armchair and zigzag directions on electrical transport in graphene through a magnetic barrier and a linearly polarized electromagnetic wave. In the context of Floquet theory, the eigenvalues and related eigenspinors are calculated analytically. The transmission probabilities are expressed as a function of different parameters using the transfer matrix approach and boundary conditions at two interfaces with current densities. We see that as the barrier width and incident energy change, the transmission via the center band oscillates less at zero strain.…
