On $(M,g)$ a compact riemannian $4-$manifold we consider the prescribed $Q-$curvature equation defined on $M$ with finite singular sources. We first prove a classification theorem for singular Liouville equations defined on $\mathbb R^4$ and perform a concentration compactness analysis. Then we derive a quantization result for bubbling solutions and establish a priori estimate under the assumption that certain conformal invariant does not take some quantized values. Furthermore we prove a spherical Harnack inequality around singular sources provided their strength is not an integer. Such an inequality implies that in this case singular sources are \emph{isolated simple blow up points}.
In a geometrically non-linear Cosserat model for micro-polar elastic solids, we insert dipole pairs of singularities into smooth maps and control the amount of Cosserat energy needed to do so. We use this method to force an arbitrary number of singular points into Cosserat-elastic solids by prescribing smooth boundary data. Throughout this paper, we exploit connections between harmonic maps and Cosserat-elastic solids, so that we are able to adapt and incorporate ideas of R. Hardt and F.-H. Lin, as well as F. Béthuel.
We study conformal metrics with prescribed Gaussian curvature on surfaces with conical singularities and geodesic boundary in supercritical regimes. Exploiting a variational argument, we derive a general existence result for surfaces with at least two boundary components. This seems to be the first result in this setting. Moreover, we allow to have conical singularities with both positive and negative orders, that is cone angles both less and grater than $2π$.
In this paper we perform a fine blow-up analysis for a fourth order elliptic equation involving critical Sobolev exponent, related to the prescription of some conformal invariant on the standard sphere. We derive from this analysis some a priori estimates in dimension 5 and 6. On the five dimensionl sphere these a priori estimates combined with the perturbation result of Part I allow us to obtain some existence results. On the six dimensional sphere we prove the existence of at least one solution when an associated index is different from zero.
Motivated mainly by the localization over an open bounded set $Ω$ of $\mathbb R^n$ of solutions of the Schrödinger equations, we consider the Schrödinger equation over $Ω$ with a very singular potential $V(x) \ge C d (x, \partial Ω)^{-r}$ with $r\ge 2$ and a convective flow $\vec U$. We prove the existence and uniqueness of a very weak solution of the equation, when the right hand side datum $f(x)$ is in $L^1 (Ω, d(\cdot, \partial Ω))$, even if no boundary condition is a priori prescribed. We prove that, in fact, the solution necessarily satisfies (in a suitable way) the Dirichlet condition $u…
An orbit-like foliation is a singular foliation on a complete Riemannian manifold $M$ whose leaves are locally equidistant (i.e., a singular Riemannian foliation) and (transversely) infinitesimally homogenous. This class of singular foliation contains not only the classe of partion of the space into orbits of isometric actions, but also infinite many non homogenous examples and in particular the partition of $M$ into orbits of a proper groupoid. In this paper we prove a version of Kondrakov Embedding Theorem and an analogous Principle of Symmetric Criticality of Palais for basic funcions of or…
The problem of prescribing Gaussian curvature on Riemann surface with conical singularity is considered. Let $(Σ,β)$ be a closed Riemann surface with a divisor $β$, and $K_λ=K+λ$, where $K:Σ\rightarrow\mathbb{R}$ is a Hölder continuous function satisfying $\max_ΣK= 0$, $K\not\equiv 0$, and $λ\in\mathbb{R}$. If the Euler characteristic $χ(Σ,β)$ is negative, then by a variational method, it is proved that there exists a constant $λ^\ast>0$ such that for any $λ\leq 0$, there is a unique conformal metric with the Gaussian curvature $K_λ$; for any $λ$, $0<λ<λ^\ast$, there are at least two conformal…
Prescribing $σ_k$ curvature equations are fully nonlinear generalizations of the prescribing Gaussian or scalar curvature equations. Given a positive function $K$ to be prescribed on the 4-dimensional round sphere. We obtain asymptotic profile analysis for potentially blowing up solutions to the $σ_2$ curvature equation with the given $K$; and rule out the possibility of blowing up solutions when $K$ satisfies a non-degeneracy condition. We also prove uniform a priori estimates for solutions to a family of $σ_2$ curvature equations deforming $K$ to a positive constant under the same non-degene…
This article sets forth results on the existence, a priori estimates and boundedness of positive solutions of a singular quasilinear systems of elliptic equations involving variable exponents. The approach is based on Schauder's fixed point Theorem. A Moser iteration procedure is also obtained for singular cooperative systems involving variable exponents establishing a priori estimates and boundedness of solutions.
We extend some classical results dealing with boundary Harnack inequatilities to a class of quasilinear elliptic equations and derive some new estimates for solutions of such equations with an isolated singularity on the boundary of a domain.
We study quasilinear evolutionary partial integro-differential equations of second order which include time fractional $p$-Laplace equations of time order less than one. By means of suitable energy estimates and De Giorgi's iteration technique we establish results asserting the global boundedness of appropriately defined weak solutions of these problems. We also show that a maximum principle is valid for such equations.
In this paper we study the problem, posed by Troyanov, of prescribing the Gaussian curvature under a conformal change of the metric on surfaces with conical singularities. Such geometrical problem can be reduced to the solvability of a nonlinear PDE with exponential type non-linearity admitting a variational structure. In particular, we are concerned with the case where the prescribed function $K$ changes sign. When the surface is the standard sphere, namely for the singular Nirenberg problem, by a min-max approach and a new compactness argument we give sufficient conditions on $K$, concerning…
We study blow-up rates and the blow-up profiles of possible asymptotically self-similar singularities of the 3D Euler equations, where the sense of convergence and self-similarity are considered in various sense. We extend much further, in particular, the previous nonexistence results of self-similar/asymptotically self-similar singularities obtained in \cite{cha1,cha2}. Some implications the notions for the 3D Navier-Stokes equations are also deduced. Generalization of the self-similar transforms is also considered, and by appropriate choice of the transform we obtain new \textit{a priori} es…
We give a simpler proof of the a priori estimates obtained in the paper by Duran, Sanmartino and Toschi for solutions of elliptic problems in weighted Sobolev norms when the weights belong to the Muckenhoupt class $A_p$. The argument is a generalization to bounded domains of the one used in $\mathbb{R}^n$ to prove the continuity of singular integral operators in weighted norms. In the case of singular integral operators it is known that the $A_p$ condition is also necessary for the continuity. We do not know whether this is also true for the a priori estimates in bounded domains but we are abl…
In this paper, we prove existence and regularity of positive solutions for singular quasilinear elliptic systems involving gradient terms. Our approach is based on comparison properties, a priori estimates and Schauder's fixed point theorem.
We are concerned with a priori estimates for the obstacle problem of a wide class of fully nonlinear equations on Riemannian manifolds. We use new techniques introduced by Bo Guan and derive new results for a priori second order estimates of its singular perturbation problem under fairly general conditions. By approximation, the existence of a C^{1,1} viscosity solution is proved.
Given a closed two dimensional manifold, we prove a general existence result for a class of elliptic PDEs with exponential nonlinearities and negative Dirac deltas on the right-hand side, extending a theory recently obtained for the regular case. This is done by global methods: since the associated Euler functional is in general unbounded from below, we need to define a new model space, generalizing the so-called space of formal barycenters and characterizing (up to homotopy equivalence) its very low sublevels. As a result, the analytic problem is reduced to a topological one concerning the co…
In this paper, we prove existence results of a one-dimensional periodic solution to equations with the fractional Laplacian of order $s\in(1/2,1)$, singular nonlinearity, and gradient term under various situations, including nonlocal contra-part of classical Lienard vector equations, as well other nonlocal versions of classical results know only in the context of second-order ODE. Our proofs are based on degree theory and Perron's method, so before that we need to establish a variety of priori estimates under different assumptions on the nonlinearities appearing in the equations. Besides, we o…
We construct singular solutions to special Lagrangian equa- tions with subcritical phases and minimal surface systems. A priori estimate breaking families of smooth solutions are also produced cor- respondingly. A priori estimates for special Lagrangian equations with certain convexity are largely known by now.
In this paper local Lipschitz regularity of weak solutions to certain singular elliptic equations involving one-Laplacian is studied. Equations treated here also contains another well-behaving elliptic operator such as $p$-Laplacian with $1<p<\infty$. The problem is that one-Laplacian is too singular on degenerate points, what is often called facet, which makes it difficult to obtain even Lipschitz regularity of weak solutions. This difficulty is overcome by making suitable approximation schemes, and by avoiding analysis on facet for approximated solutions. The key estimate is a local a priori…
We consider the Kudryashov-Sinelshchikov equation, which contains nonlinear dispersive effects. We prove that as the diffusion parameter tends to zero, the solutions of the dispersive equation coverge to the entropy ones of the Burgers equation. The proof relies on deriving suitable a priori estimates together with an application of the compansated compactness method in the L^p setting.
We prove that an a priori BMO gradient estimate for the two phase singular perturbation problem implies Lipschitz regularity for the limits. This problem arises in the mathematical theory of combustion where the reaction-diffusion is modelled by the $p$-Laplacian. A key tool in our approach is the weak energy identity. Our method proves a natural and intrinsic characterization of the free boundary points and can be applied to more general classes of solutions.
We consider the Hardy-Hénon parabolic equation $u_t-Δu =|x|^a |u|^{p-1}u$ with $p>1$ and $a\in {\mathbb R}$. We establish the space-time singularity and decay estimates, and Liouville-type theorems for radial and nonradial solutions. As applications, we study universal and a priori bound of global solutions as well as the blow-up estimates for the corresponding initial boundary value problem.
We consider the Rosenau equation, which contains nonlinear dispersive effects. We prove that as the diffusion parameter tends to zero, the solutions of the dispersive equation converge to discontinuous weak solution of the Burgers equation. The proof relies on deriving suitable a priori estimates together with an application of the compensated compactness method in the L^p setting.
We study the following Helmholtz equation $$ (\nabla +iA(x))^{2} u+ V_{1}(x) u + V_{2}(x) u + λu = f(x) $$ in $\mathbb{R}^d$ with magnetic and electric potentials that are singular at the origin and decay at infinity. We prove the existence of a unique solution satisfying a suitable Sommerfeld radiation condition, together with some a priori estimates. We use the limiting absorption method and a multiplier technique of Morawetz type.

We consider the Ibragimov-Shabat equation, which contains nonlinear dispersive effects. We prove that as the diffusion parameter tends to zero, the solutions of the dispersive equation converge to discontinuous weak solutions of a scalar conservation law. The proof relies on deriving suitable a priori estimates together with an application of the compensated compactness method in the L^p setting
We study the ergodic problem for fully nonlinear operators which may be singular or degenerate when the gradient of solutions vanishes. We prove the convergence of both explosive solutions and solutions of Dirichlet problems for approximating equations. We further characterize the ergodic constant as the infimum of constants for which there exist bounded sub solutions. As intermediate results of independent interest, we prove a priori Lipschitz estimates depending only on the norm of the zeroth order term, and a comparison principle for equations having no zero order terms.
We consider the Rosenau-Korteweg-de Vries-regularized long wave and Rosenau- Korteweg-de Vries equations, which contain nonlinear dispersive effects. We prove that, as the diffusion parameter tends to zero, the solutions of the dispersive equations converge to the unique entropy solution of a scalar conservation law. The proof relies on deriving suitable a priori estimates together with an application of the compensated compactness method in the L^p setting.
Let $v$ be the velocity of Leray-Hopf solutions to the axially symmetric three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations. Under suitable conditions for initial values, we prove the following a priori bound \[ |v(x, t)| \le \frac{C}{r^2} |\ln r|^{1/2}, \]where $r \in (0, 1/2)$ is the distance from $x$ to the z axis, and $C$ is a constant depending only on the initial value. This provides a pointwise upper bound (worst case scenario) for possible singularities while the recent papers \cite{CSTY2} and \cite{KNSS} gave a lower bound. The gap is polynomial order 1 modulo a half log term.
We consider the Rosenau-Korteweg-de Vries-equation, which contains nonlinear dispersive effects. We prove that as the diffusion parameter tends to zero, the solution of the dispersive equation converge to the discontinous weak solutions of the Burgers equation. The proof relies on deriving suitable a priori estimates together with an application of tha compansated compactness method in the L^p setting.
We give an a priori bound on the (n-7)-dimensional measure of the singular set for an area-minimizing n-dimensional hypersurface, in terms of the geometry of its boundary.
In this paper, we apply blow-up analysis and Liouville type theorems to study pointwise a priori estimates for some quasilinear equations with p-Laplace operator. We first obtain pointwise interior estimates for the gradient of p-harmonic function, i.e., the solution of $Δ_{p}u=0,\ x\inΩ$, which extends the well-established results of the interior estimates of the gradient of harmonic function. We then get singularity and decay estimates of the sign changing solution of Lane-Emden-Fowler type p-Laplace equation $-Δ_{p}u=|u|^{λ-1}u, \ x\inΩ$, which are then generalized for the equation with gen…
We consider in the whole plane the Hamiltonian coupling of semilinear Schroedinger equations which have critical growth in the sense of Moser. We prove that the (nonempty) set S of ground state solutions is compact up to translations. Moreover, ground states are uniformly bounded and uniformly decaying at infinity. Then we prove that actually the ground state is positive and radially symmetric. We apply those results to prove the existence of semiclassical ground states solutions to the singularly perturbed system when the external potential stays bounded away from zero. Namely, as the adimens…
We study the regularity of the extremal solution $u^*$ to the singular reaction-diffusion problem $-Δ_p u = λf(u)$ in $Ω$, $u =0$ on $\partial Ω$, where $1<p<2$, $0 < λ< λ^*$, $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ is a smooth bounded domain and $f$ is any positive, superlinear, increasing and (asymptotically) convex $C^1$ nonlinearity. We provide a simple proof of known $L^r$ and $W^{1,r}$ \textit{a priori} estimates for $u^*$, i.e. $u^* \in L^\infty(Ω)$ if $n \leq p+2$, $u^* \in L^{\frac{2n}{n-p-2}}(Ω)$ if $n > p+2$ and $|\nabla u^*|^{p-1} \in L^{\frac{n}{n-(p'+1)}} (Ω)$ if $n > p p'$.
We establish in this paper \emph{a priori} global $W^{2,δ}$ estimates for singular fully nonlinear elliptic equations with $L^n$ right hand side terms. The method is to slide paraboloids and barrier functions vertically to touch the solution of the equation, and then to estimate the measure of the contact set in terms of the measure of the vertex point set. To derive global estimates from $L^n$ data, the Hardy-Littlewood maximal functions, appropriate localizations and a new type of covering argument are adopted. These methods also provide us a more direct proof of the $W^{2,δ}$ estimates for …
