We classify AdS$_3$ solutions preserving $\mathcal{N}=(8,0)$ supersymmetry in ten and eleven dimensions and find the local form of each of them. These include the AdS$_3\times$S$^6$ solution of \cite{Dibitetto:2018ftj} and the embeddings of AdS$_3$ into AdS$_4\times$S$^7$, AdS$_5\times$S$^5$, AdS$_7/\mathbb{Z}_k\times$S$^4$ and its IIA reduction within AdS$_7$. More interestingly we find solutions preserving the superconformal algebras $\mathfrak{f}_4$, $\mathfrak{su}(1,1|4)$, $\mathfrak{osp}(4^*|4)$ on certain squashings of the 7-sphere. These solutions asymptote to AdS$_4\times$S$^7$ and are promising candidates for holographic duals to defects in Chern-Simons matter theories.
We study AdS duals of four-dimensional (4D) $\mathcal{N}=1$ superconformal field theories (SCFTs) on $\mathbb{Z}_k$ S-folds with T-branes that flow to 4D $\mathcal{N}=3$ theories. In a previous study, it was discussed how considering T-brane structure breaks the $\mathcal{N}=2$ supersymmetry in 4D SCFTs on $\mathbb{Z}_k$ S-folds down to $\mathcal{N}=1$. In this study, we analyze this effect from the AdS perspective. We also discuss the constructions of 4D $\mathcal{N}=1$ SCFTs on S-folds with T-branes starting from global K3 hypersurfaces whose fibers involve complex multiplications. We choose…
We study four-point functions of spinning operators in the flavor current multiplet in four dimensional $\mathcal{N}=2$ SCFTs, using superspace techniques. In particular we explicitly construct the differential operators relating the different components of the super-correlator. As a byproduct of our analysis, we report the computation of the four-point amplitudes of gluons in bosonic Yang-Mills theories on $\mathrm{AdS}_5$ and we give evidence of an AdS double copy relation between the gluon amplitude and its gravitational counterpart.
We study warped AdS$_3$ solutions in massive IIA supergravity preserving $\mathcal{N}=(3,0)$ and $\mathcal{N}=(1,0)$ supersymmetry. We consider solutions whose internal spaces decompose as an S$^3\times$S$^3$ fibration and a interval over which the rest of the solution is foliated. We present necessary and sufficient conditions for these solutions to exist, in terms of systems of ordinary differential equations and find several new analytic and numerical examples with internal spaces bounded between D-brane and O-plane behaviors.
In this paper, we are looking for $\mathcal{N}=1$, AdS$_4$ sourceless vacua in type IIB. While several examples exist in type IIA , there exists only one example of such vacua in type IIB . Thanks to the framework of generalized geometry we were able to devise a semi-algorithmical method to look for sourceless vacua. We present this method, which can easily be generalized to more complex cases, and give two new vacua in type IIB.
We study compactifications of an infinite family of four-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=1$ SCFTs on a Riemann surface in the presence of arbitrary background fluxes for global symmetries. The four-dimensional parent theories have holographic Sasaki-Einstein duals in type IIB string theory. We compute central charges and R-charges of baryonic operators in the resulting two-dimensional $\mathcal{N}=(0,2)$ theories in three distinct ways: from the field theory side utilizing c-extremization, its recently discovered geometric dual formulation, and holographically using new AdS$_3$ duals of two-dimension…
We investigate the superconformal index and the partition function for the chiral-like Chern-Simons-matter theory proposed for M2-branes probing the cones over $M^{3,2}$ and find perfect agreements with the gravity index and the gravitational free energy.
We propose a class of ${\rm AdS}_3/{\rm CFT}_2$ dualities with $\mathcal{N}=(2,2)$ supersymmetry. These dualities relate string theory on ${\rm AdS}_3 \times ({\rm S}^3\times \mathbb{T}^4)/{\rm G}$ to marginal deformations of the symmetric product orbifold of $\mathbb{T}^4/{\rm G}$, where ${\rm G}$ is a dihedral group. We demonstrate that the BPS spectrum calculated from supergravity and string theory agrees with that of the dual CFT. Moreover, the supergravity elliptic genus is shown to reproduce the CFT answer, thus providing further non-trivial evidence in favour of the proposal.
We consider the action of a non-abelian T-duality on backgrounds with an AdS${}_5$ factor in type IIA supergravity, finding a new type IIB background, as well as the non-abelian T-dual of a domain wall solution which has as limits the non-abelian T-dual of $AdS_5\times T^{1,1}$ and the non-abelian T-dual of $AdS_3\times \mathbb{R}^2\times S^2\times S^3$. We explore some consequences of non-abelian T-duality for the dual conformal field theories.
We discuss marginal deformations of warped AdS$_3\times$S$^2$ solutions preserving small $\mathcal{N}=(0,4)$ supersymmetry in massive IIA and eleven-dimensional supergravity and obtain a whole family of new solutions. We characterise these new backgrounds by studying some observables like the quantised charges, associated Hannany-Witten brane set-ups and the holographic central charge, the latter is shown to be invariant under the deformation. The study of the preservation of supersymmetry shows that the new backgrounds support an identity structure on the internal five-dimensional space, whic…
We summarize the results and the ideas in 1707.06152, 1707.06154, 1807.07768 where new warped $\mathrm{AdS}_3$ backgrounds are derived in massive IIA string theory by uplifting exact solutions in $\mathcal N=1$, $d=7$ and $\mathcal N=(1,1)$, $d=6$ gauged supergravities. These solutions are respectively asymptotically $\mathrm{AdS}_7$ and $\mathrm{AdS}_6$ and they are related to the D2-D4-NS5-D6-D8 brane intersection. We provide a particular supergravity solution in 10d describing this bound state and we discuss the relations between its near-horizon geometry and the uplifts from 6d and 7d. The…
We consider string theory on AdS$_3$ $\times$ (S$^3$ $\times$ S$^3$ $\times$ S$^1)/\mathbb Z_2$, a background supporting $\mathcal N=(3,3)$ spacetime supersymmetry. We propose that string theory on this background is dual to the symmetric product orbifold of $\mathcal S_0/\mathbb Z_2$ where $\mathcal S_0$ is a theory of four free fermions and one free boson. We show that the BPS spectra of the two sides of the duality match precisely. Furthermore, we compute the elliptic genus of the dual CFT and that of the supergravity limit of string theory and demonstrate that they match, hence providing n…
We construct a general class of (small) $\mathcal{N}=(0,4)$ superconformal solutions in M-theory of the form AdS$_3\times S^3/\mathbb{Z}_k\times \text{CY}_2$, foliated over an interval. These solutions describe M-strings in M5-brane intersections. The $M$-strings support $(0,4)$ quiver CFTs that are in correspondence with our backgrounds. We compute the central charge and show that it scales linearly with the total number of $M$-strings. We introduce momentum charge, thus allowing for a description in terms of M(atrix) theory. Upon reduction to Type IIA, we find a new class of solutions with f…
In this paper we study an $AdS_5$ solution constructed using non-Abelian T-duality, acting on the Klebanov-Witten background. We show that this is dual to a linear quiver with two tails of gauge groups of increasing rank. The field theory dynamics arises from a D4-NS5-NS5' brane set-up, generalizing the constructions discussed by Bah and Bobev. These realize $\mathcal{N}=1$ quiver gauge theories built out of $\mathcal{N}=1$ and $\mathcal{N}=2$ vector multiplets flowing to interacting fixed points in the infrared. We compute the central charge using $a$-maximization, and show its precise agreem…
We discuss the string corrections to one-loop amplitudes in AdS$_5\times$S$^5$, focussing on their expressions in Mellin space. We present the leading $(α')^3$ corrections to the family of correlators $\langle \mathcal{O}_2 \mathcal{O}_2 \mathcal{O}_p \mathcal{O}_p \rangle$ at one loop and begin the exploration of the form of correlators with multiple channels. From these correlators we extract some string corrections to one-loop anomalous dimensions of families of operators of low twist.
We find a new $\mathcal{N}=2$ $AdS_4$ solution in M-theory supported by purely magnetic flux via a sequence of abelian and non-abelian T-dualities. This provides the second known example in this class besides the uplift of the Pernici and Sezgin solution to 7d gauged supergravity constructed in the eighties. We compute the free energy of the solution, and show that it scales as $N^{3/2}$. It is intriguing that even though the natural holographic interpretation is in terms of M5-branes wrapped on a special Lagrangian 3-cycle, this solution does not exhibit the expected $N^3$ behavior.
It is well known that Hopf-fibre T-duality and uplift takes the D1-D5 near-horizon into a class of $AdS_3 \times S^2$ geometries in 11D where the internal space is a Calabi-Yau three-fold. Moreover, supersymmetry dictates that Calabi-Yau is the only permissible $SU(3)$-structure manifold. Generalising this duality chain to non-Abelian isometries, a strong parallel exists, resulting in the first explicit example of a class of $AdS_3 \times S^2$ geometries with $SU(2)$-structure. Furthermore, the non-Abelian T-dual of $AdS_3 \times S^3 \times S^3 \times S^1$ results in a new supersymmetric $AdS_…
We consider $\mathcal{N}=(2,2)$ AdS$_3$/CFT$_2$ dualities proposed in the large central charge limit ($c\to\infty$) by Eberhardt. Here we propose the associated D1-D5 systems to be orbifolds of the standard $\mathcal{N}=(4,4)$ systems, thereby elevating the dualities to the finite-$c$ level on the boundary and to the quantum level in the bulk. In particular, we show that our brane systems yield low-energy sigma models whose subleading central charges match earlier predictions from bulk one-loop supergravity computations. In the case involving the Enriques surface, the finite-$c$ sigma model ha…
We study 4d membranes in type IIA flux compactifications of the form AdS$_4 \times X_6$, where $X_6$ admits a Calabi--Yau metric. These models feature scale separation and D6-branes/O6-planes on three-cycles of $X_6$. When the latter are treated as localised sources, explicit solutions to the 10d equations of motion and Bianchi identities are known in 4d $\mathcal{N}=1$ settings, valid at first order in an expansion parameter related to the AdS$_4$ cosmological constant. We extend such solutions to a family of perturbatively stable $\mathcal{N}=0$ vacua, and analyse their non-perturbative stab…
We consider the conformal $A_{n}$ Toda theory in AdS$_{2}$. Due to the bulk full Virasoro symmetry, this system provides an instance of a non-gravitational $\text{AdS}_{2}$/$\text{CFT}_{1}$ correspondence where the 1d boundary theory enjoys enhanced "$\frac{1}{2}$-Virasoro" symmetry. General boundary correlators are expected to be captured by the restriction of chiral correlators in a suitable $\mathcal WA_{n}$ Virasoro extension. At next-to-leading order in weak coupling expansion they have been conjectured to match the subleading terms in the large central charge expansion of the dual $\math…
We present the general form of all timelike supersymmetric solutions to 3D U(1)^3 gauged supergravity, a known consistent truncation of string theory. We uncover a rich vacuum structure, including an infinite class of new timelike-warped AdS_3 (Goedel) and timelike-warped dS_3 critical points. We outline the construction of supersymmetric flows, driven by irrelevant scalar operators in the SCFT, which interpolate between critical points. For flows from AdS_3 to Goedel, the natural candidate for the central charge decreases along the flow. Flows to timelike-warped dS_3 exhibit topology change.
We study the near horizon 2d gravity theory which captures the near extremal thermodynamics of Kerr black holes where a linear combination of excess angular momentum $δJ $ and excess mass $δM$ is held fixed. These correspond to processes where both the mass and the angular momenta of extremal Kerr black holes are perturbed leaving them near extremal. For the Kerr $AdS_4$ we hold $δJ-\mathcal{L}\,δM=0 $ while for Myers-Perry(MP) type Kerr black hole in $AdS_5$ we hold $δJ_{φ_{1,2}}\hspace{-0.2cm}-\mathcal{L}_{φ_{1,2}}\,δM=0$. We show that in near horizon, the 2d Jackiw-Teitelboim theory is able…
We determine the asymptotic symmetry algebra (for fields of low spin) of the $M\times M$ matrix extended Vasiliev theories on AdS$_3$ and find that it agrees with the $\mathcal{W}$-algebra of their proposed coset duals. Previously it was noticed that for $M=2$ the supersymmetry increases from $\mathcal{N}=2$ to $\mathcal{N}=4$. We study more systematically this type of supersymmetry enhancements and find that, although the higher spin algebra has extended supersymmetry for all $M\geq 2$, the corresponding asymptotic symmetry algebra fails to be superconformal except for $M=2$, when it has larg…
We analyse the conditions for $\mathrm{AdS}_3 \times \mathcal{M}_7$ backgrounds with pure NS-NS flux to be supersymmetric. We find that a necessary condition is that $\mathcal{M}_7$ is a $\mathrm{U}(1)$-fibration over a balanced manifold. We subsequently classify all $\mathcal{N}=(2,2)$ solutions where $\mathcal{M}_7$ satisfies the stronger condition of being a $\mathrm{U}(1)$-fibration over a Kahler manifold. We compute the BPS spectrum of all the backgrounds in this classification. We assign a natural dual CFT to the backgrounds and confirm that the BPS spectra agree, thus providing evidence…
We construct new families of $\mathcal{N}=(0,4)$ $\mathrm{AdS}_3\times S^2 \times \tilde S^2 \times S^1$ backgrounds fibred over a 2d Riemann surface in Type IIB string theory. These solutions are obtained by extracting the near-horizon limit of D3-brane box configurations, consisting on D3-D5-NS5 branes ending on D5'-NS5' background branes. We relate our families of solutions to previous $\mathrm{AdS}_3\times S^2 \times \text{CY}_2$ and $\mathrm{AdS}_3\times S^3 \times S^2$ solutions to Type IIA recently constructed in the literature. We construct explicit 2d quiver CFTs associated to the D3-…
We study supersymmetric AdS_4 x X_7 solutions of 11-dim supergravity where the tri-Sasakian space X_7 has generically U(1)^2\times SU(2)_R isometry. The compact and regular 7-dim spaces X_7=S(t_1,t_2,t_3) is originated from 8-dim hyperkahler quotient of a 12-dim flat hyperkahler space by U(1) and belongs to the class of the Eschenburg space. We calculate the volume of X_7 and that of the supersymmetric five cycle via localization. From this we discuss the 3-dim dual superconformal field theories with \CN=3 supersymmetry.
We use the AdS/CFT correspondence to study the DC conductivity of massive $\mathcal{N} = 2$ hypermultiplet fields in an $\mathcal{N} = 4\, SU(N_c)$ super-Yang-Mills theory plasma in the large $N_c$ and finite 't Hooft coupling. We also discuss general curvature-squared and Gauss-Bonnet corrections on the DC conductivity.

We consider the most general AdS$_3$ solutions of type IIB supergravity admitting a dynamical SU$(3)$ structure and preserving $\mathcal{N}=(0,2)$ supersymmetry. The analysis is broken into three distinct classes depending on whether the dynamical SU$(3)$ structure degenerates to a strict SU$(3)$ structure. The first class we consider allows for a holomorphically varying axio-dilaton consistent with the presence of $(p,q)$ 7-branes in addition to D3-branes and $(p,q)$ 5-branes. In the remaining two classes the axio-dilaton may vary but does not do so holomorphically. The second class of soluti…
We give a classification of fully supersymmetric chiral ${\cal N}=(8,0)$ AdS$_3$ vacua in general three-dimensional half-maximal gauged supergravities coupled to matter. These theories exhibit a wealth of supersymmetric vacua with background isometries given by the supergroups OSp$(8|2,\mathbb{R})$, F(4), SU$(4|1,1)$, and OSp$(4^*|4)$, respectively. We identify the associated embedding tensors and the structure of the associated gauge groups. We furthermore compute the mass spectra around these vacua. As an off-spin we include results for a number of ${\cal N}=(7,0)$ vacua with supergroups OSp…
We demonstrate the simplicity of $AdS_5\times S^5$ IIB supergravity at one loop level, by studying non-planar holographic four-point correlators in Mellin space. We develop a systematic algorithm for constructing one-loop Mellin amplitudes from tree-level data, and obtain a simple closed form answer for the $\langle \mathcal{O}_2^{SG}\mathcal{O}_2^{SG}\mathcal{O}_p^{SG}\mathcal{O}_p^{SG} \rangle$ correlators. The structure of this expression is remarkably simple, containing only simultaneous poles in the Mellin variables. We also study the flat space limit of the Mellin amplitudes, which repro…
We study exactly marginal deformations of 3d $\mathcal{N}=2$ CFTs dual to AdS$_4$ solutions in eleven-dimensional supergravity using generalised geometry. Focussing on Sasaki-Einstein backgrounds, we find that marginal deformations correspond to turning on a four-form flux on the internal space at first order. Viewing this as the deformation of a generalised structure, we derive a general expression for the four-form flux in terms of a holomorphic function. We discuss the explicit examples of S$^7$, Q$^{1,1,1}$ and M$^{1,1,1}$ and, using an obstruction analysis, find the conditions for the fir…
In this work, we build the most general boundary conditions for $\mathcal N=\left(1,1\right)$ and $\mathcal N=\left(2,2\right)$ extended supergravity. We show that for the loosest set of boundary conditions, their asymptotic symmetry algebras are two copies of the $\mathfrak{osp}\left(1\mid 2\right)_k$ and $\mathfrak{osp}\left(2\mid 2\right)_k$ algebra, respectively. Then, we restrict the gauge fields on the boundary conditions in order to obtain supersymmetric extensions of the Brown-Henneaux and Troessaert boundary conditions. Furthermore, for $\mathcal N=1$ and $\mathcal N=2$ (extended) sup…
We develop a recursive algorithm for the investigation of infinite sequences of quasi-primary fields obtained from chiral primary operators (CPOs) $O^I_k(x)$ and eventually their derivatives by applying operator product expansions and singling out SO(6) representations. We show that normal products of $O_2$ operators can be expressed in terms of projection operators on representations of SO(20) and discuss intertwining operators for SO(6) representations. Furthermore we derive $\mathcal{O}(\frac{1}{N^2})$ corrections to AdS/CFT 4-point functions by graphical combinatorics and finally extract a…
In this paper we study spin 2 fluctuations around a warped $AdS_3 \times S^2 \times T^4 \times \mathcal{I}_ρ$ background in type IIA supergravity with small $\mathcal{N} = (0,4)$ supersymmetry. We find a class of fluctuations, which will be called \textit{universal}, that is independent of the background data and corresponds to operators with scaling dimension $Δ= 2l +2$, being $l$ the angular-momentum-quantum-number on the $S^2$ which realises the $SU(2)_R$ symmetry. We compute the central charge for $\mathcal{N} = (0,4)$ two-dimensional superconformal theories from the action of the spin 2 f…
We investigate the behaviour of the mutual information $\mathcal{I}_{AB}$ between two "small" and wide separated spherical regions $A$ and $B$ in the $\mathcal{N}=4$ SYM gauge theory dual to Type IIB string theory in $AdS_5 \times S^5$. To this end, the mutual information is recasted in terms of correlators of surface operators $\mathcal{W}\left( Σ\right)$ defined along a surface $Σ$ within the boundary gauge theory. This construction relies on the strong analogies between the twist field operators appearing in the replica trick method used for the computation of the entanglement entropy, and …
In this work we present the ultra-relativistic $\mathcal{N}$-extended AdS Chern-Simons supergravity theories in three spacetime dimensions invariant under $\mathcal{N}$-extended AdS Carroll superalgebras. We first consider the $(2,0)$ and $(1,1)$ cases; subsequently, we generalize our analysis to $\mathcal{N}=(\mathcal{N},0)$, with $\mathcal{N}$ even, and to $\mathcal{N}=(p,q)$, with $p,q>0$. The $\mathcal{N}$-extended AdS Carroll superalgebras are obtained through the Carrollian (i.e., ultra-relativistic) contraction applied to an $so(2)$ extension of $\mathfrak{osp}(2|2)\otimes \mathfrak{sp}…
New local solutions in type II supergravity that are foliations of AdS$_3\times S^3\times S^3$ over an interval and preserve at least large $\mathcal{N}=(4,0)$ supersymmetry are found. Some cases have compact internal space, some not and one experiences an enhancement to $\mathcal{N}=(4,4)$. We present two new globally compact solutions with D brane and O plane sources explicitly, one in each of IIA and IIB. The former is part of an infinite family of solutions with D8/O8s back reacted on AdS$_3\times S^3\times S^3\times S^1$. In the latter the the algebra degenerates to small $\mathcal{N}=(4,…
We construct infinite new classes of $AdS_4\times S^1\times S^5$ solutions of type IIB string theory which have non-trivial $SL(2,\mathbb{Z})$ monodromy along the $S^1$ direction. The solutions are supersymmetric and holographically dual, generically, to $\mathcal{N}=1$ SCFTs in $d=3$. The solutions are first constructed as $AdS_4\times \mathbb{R}$ solutions in $D=5$ $SO(6)$ gauged supergravity and then uplifted to $D=10$. Unlike the known $AdS_4\times \mathbb{R}$ S-fold solutions, there is no continuous symmetry associated with the $\mathbb{R}$ direction. The solutions all arise as limiting c…
We study the holographic dual to $c$-extremization for 2d $(0,2)$ superconformal field theories (SCFTs) that have an AdS$_3$ dual realized in Type IIB with varying axio-dilaton, i.e. F-theory. M/F-duality implies that such AdS$_3$ solutions can be mapped to AdS$_2$ solutions in M-theory, which are holographically dual to superconformal quantum mechanics (SCQM), obtained by dimensional reduction of the 2d SCFTs. We analyze the corresponding map between holographic $c$-extremization in F-theory and $\mathcal{I}$-extremization in M-theory, where in general the latter receives corrections relative…
We consider $α'$ corrections to four-point correlators of half-BPS operators in $\mathcal{N}=4$ super Yang-Mills theory in the supergravity limit. By demanding the correct behaviour in the flat space limit, we find that the leading $(α')^3$ correction to the Mellin amplitude is fixed for arbitrary charges of the external operators. By considering the mixing of double-trace operators we can find the $(α')^3$ corrections to the double-trace spectrum which we give explicitly for $su(4)$-singlet operators. We observe striking patterns in the corrections to the spectra which hint at their common te…
We derive the four-point correlators of scalar operators of dimension one in the supergravity limit of the D1D5 CFT holographically dual to string theory on AdS$_3\times S^3\times \mathcal{M}$, with $\mathcal{M}$ either $T^4$ or $K3$. We avoid the use of Witten diagrams but deduce our result from a limit of the heavy-heavy-light-light correlators computed in arXiv:1705.09250, together with several consistency requirements of the OPE in the various channels. This result represents the first holographic correlators of single-trace operators computed in AdS$_3$.
We consider massive type IIA orientifold compactifications of the form AdS$_4 \times X_6$, where $X_6$ admits a Calabi-Yau metric and is threaded by background fluxes. From a 4d viewpoint, fluxes generate a potential whose vacua have been classified, including one $\mathcal{N}=1$ and three perturbatively stable $\mathcal{N}=0$ branches. We reproduce this result from a 10d viewpoint, by solving the type IIA equations at the same level of detail as previously done for the $\mathcal{N}=1$ branch. All solutions exhibit localised sources and parametric scale separation. We then analyse the non-pert…
We expand upon a claim made in a recent paper [arXiv:1411.5721] that generic minimally supersymmetric AdS backgrounds of warped flux compactifications of Type II and M theory can be understood as satisfying a straightforward weak integrability condition in the language of $E_{d(d)}\times\mathbb{R}^+$ generalised geometry. Namely, they are spaces admitting a generalised $G$-structure set by the Killing spinor and with constant singlet generalised intrinsic torsion.
