We study the ferromagnetic Ising model on the infinite $d$-regular tree under the free boundary condition. This model is known to be a factor of IID in the uniqueness regime, when the inverse temperature $β\ge 0$ satisfies $\tanh β\le (d-1)^{-1}$. However, in the reconstruction regime ($\tanh β> (d-1)^{-\frac{1}{2}}$), it is not a factor of IID. We construct a factor of IID for the Ising model beyond the uniqueness regime via a strong solution to an infinite dimensional stochastic differential equation which partially answers a question of Lyons. The solution $\{X_t(v) \}$ of the SDE is distributed as
\[
X_t(v) = tτ_v + B_t(v),
\] where $\{τ_v \}$ is an Ising sample and $\{B_t(v) \}$ are independent Brownian motions indexed by the vertices in the tree. Our construction holds whenever $\tanh β\le c(d-1)^{-\frac{1}{2}}$, where $c>0$ is an absolute constant.
We study invariant percolation processes on the d-regular tree that are obtained as a factor of an iid process. We show that the density of any factor of iid site percolation process with finite clusters is asymptotically at most (log d)/d as d tends to infinity. This bound is asymptotically optimal as it can be realized by independent sets. One implication of the result is a (1/2)-factor approximation gap, asymptotically in d, for estimating the density of maximal induced forests in locally tree-like d-regular graphs via factor of iid processes.
Classical ergodic theory for integer-group actions uses entropy as a complete invariant for isomorphism of IID (independent, identically distributed) processes (a.k.a. product measures). This theory holds for amenable groups as well. Despite recent spectacular progress of Bowen, the situation for non-amenable groups, including free groups, is still largely mysterious. We present some illustrative results and open questions on free groups, which are particularly interesting in combinatorics, statistical physics, and probability. Our results include bounds on minimum and maximum bisection for ra…
This paper is concerned with certain invariant random processes (called factors of IID) on infinite trees. Given such a process, one can assign entropies to different finite subgraphs of the tree. There are linear inequalities between these entropies that hold for any factor of IID process (e.g. "edge versus vertex" or "star versus edge"). These inequalities turned out to be very useful: they have several applications already, the most recent one is the Backhausz-Szegedy result on the eigenvectors of random regular graphs. We present new entropy inequalities in this paper. In fact, our approac…

We study factor of i.i.d. processes on the $d$-regular tree for $d \geq 3$. We show that if such a process is restricted to two distant connected subgraphs of the tree, then the two parts are basically uncorrelated. More precisely, any functions of the two parts have correlation at most $k(d-1) / (\sqrt{d-1})^k$, where $k$ denotes the distance of the subgraphs. This result can be considered as a quantitative version of the fact that factor of i.i.d. processes have trivial 1-ended tails.
We consider the ferromagnetic Ising model with spatially dependent external fields on a Cayley tree, and we investigate the conditions for the existence of the phase transition for a class of external fields, asymptotically approaching a homogeneous critical external field. Our results extend earlier results by Rozikov and Ganikhodjaev.
This paper is concerned with factor of i.i.d. processes on the $d$-regular tree for $d \geq 3$. We study the mutual information of the values on two given vertices. If the vertices are neighbors (i.e., their distance is $1$), then a known inequality between the entropy of a vertex and the entropy of an edge provides an upper bound for the (normalized) mutual information. In this paper we obtain upper bounds for vertices at an arbitrary distance $k$, of order $(d-1)^{-k/2}$. Although these bounds are sharp, we also show that an interesting phenomenon occurs here: for any fixed process the rate …
It is known that the Kesten-Stigum reconstruction bound is tight for roughly symmetric binary channels. In this paper, we will adopt a refined analysis of moment recursion on a weighted version of the magnetization, which is engaged in Sly [2011] to handle the symmetric Potts model, and establish the critical condition of the asymmetric Ising model to make Kesten-Stigum bound the reconstruction threshold on regular $d$-ary trees.
We consider the ferromagnetic Ising model on the Cayley tree and we investigate the decomposition of the free state into extremal states below the spin glass temperature. We show that this decomposition has uncountably many components. The tail observable showing that the free state is not extremal is related to the Edwards-Anderson parameter, measuring the variance of the (random) magnetization obtained from drawing boundary conditions from the free state.
In this article we show the convergence of a loop ensemble of interfaces in the FK Ising model at criticality, as the lattice mesh tends to zero, to a unique conformally invariant scaling limit. The discrete loop ensemble is described by a canonical tree glued from the interfaces, which then is shown to converge to a tree of branching SLEs. The loop ensemble contains unboundedly many loops and hence our result describes the joint law of infinitely many loops in terms of SLE type processes, and the result gives the full scaling limit of the FK Ising model in the sense of random geometry of the …

Let $G$ be the product of finitely many trees $T_1\times T_2 \times \cdots \times T_N$, each of which is regular with degree at least three. We consider Bernoulli bond percolation and the Ising model on this graph, giving a short proof that the model undergoes a second order phase transition with mean-field critical exponents in each case. The result concerning percolation recovers a result of Kozma (2013), while the result concerning the Ising model is new. We also present a new proof, using similar techniques, of a lemma of Schramm concerning the decay of the critical two-point function alon…
Recent inapproximability results of Sly (2010), together with an approximation algorithm presented by Weitz (2006) establish a beautiful picture for the computational complexity of approximating the partition function of the hard-core model. Let $λ_c(T_Δ)$ denote the critical activity for the hard-model on the infinite $Δ$-regular tree. Weitz presented an FPTAS for the partition function when $λ<λ_c(T_Δ)$ for graphs with constant maximum degree $Δ$. In contrast, Sly showed that for all $Δ\geq 3$, there exists $ε_Δ>0$ such that (unless RP=NP) there is no FPRAS for approximating the partition fu…
In a recent paper by A. Backhausz, B. Gerencsér and V. Harangi, it was shown that factors of independent identically distributed random processes (IID) on trees obey certain geometry-driven inequalities. In particular, the mutual information shared between two vertices decays exponentially, and there is an explicit bound for this decay. In this note we show that all of these inequalities could be verbatim translated to the setting of factors of processes driven by unique Gibbs measures. As a consequence, we show that correlations decay exponentially for unique Gibbs measures on trees.
We consider the ferromagnetic n.n Ising model on Cayley trees in absence of external fields submitted to a modified majority rule transformation with overlapping cells already known to lead to non-Gibbsian measures. We describe the renormalized measures within the Generalized Gibbs framework and prove that they are Almost Gibbs at any temperature.
We study the problem of learning a tree Ising model from samples such that subsequent predictions made using the model are accurate. The prediction task considered in this paper is that of predicting the values of a subset of variables given values of some other subset of variables. Virtually all previous work on graphical model learning has focused on recovering the true underlying graph. We define a distance ("small set TV" or ssTV) between distributions $P$ and $Q$ by taking the maximum, over all subsets $\mathcal{S}$ of a given size, of the total variation between the marginals of $P$ and …
We consider the ferromagnetic nearest-neighbor Ising model on regular trees (Bethe lattice), which is well-known to undergo a phase transition in the absence of an external magnetic field. The behavior of the model at critical temperature can be described in terms of various critical exponents; one of them is the critical 1-arm exponent $ρ$, which characterizes the rate of decay of the (root) magnetization. The crucial quantity we analyze in this work is the thermal expectation of the root spin on a finite subtree, where the expected value is taken with respect to a probability measure related…
The aim of this study is tree-fold. First, we investigate the thermodynamics of the Ising models with respect to 2-multiple Hamiltonians. This extends the previous results of [Chazotte and Redig, Electron. J. Probably., 2014] to $\mathbb{N}^d$. Second, we establish the large deviation principle (LDP) of the average $\frac{1}{N} S_N^G$, where $S_N^G$ is a 2-multiple sum along a semigroup generated by k numbers which are k co-primes. This extends the previous results [Ban et al. Indag. Math., 2021] to a board class of the long-range interactions. Finally, the results described above are generali…
The Swendsen-Wang algorithm is a sophisticated, widely-used Markov chain for sampling from the Gibbs distribution for the ferromagnetic Ising and Potts models. This chain has proved difficult to analyze, due in part to the global nature of its updates. We present optimal bounds on the convergence rate of the Swendsen-Wang algorithm for the complete $d$-ary tree. Our bounds extend to the non-uniqueness region and apply to all boundary conditions. We show that the spatial mixing conditions known as Variance Mixing and Entropy Mixing, introduced in the study of local Markov chains by Martinelli e…
We prove that the Loop O(1) model, a well-known graphical expansion of the Ising model, is a factor of i.i.d. on unimodular random rooted graphs under various conditions, including in the presence of a non-negative external field. As an application we show that the gradient of the free Ising model is a factor of i.i.d. on unimodular planar maps having a locally finite dual. The key idea is to develop an appropriate theory of local limits of uniform even subgraphs with various boundary conditions and prove that they can be sampled as a factor of i.i.d. Another key tool we prove and exploit is t…
