We prove several results about integers represented by positive definite quadratic forms, using a Fourier analysis approach. In particular, for an integer $\ell\geq 1$, we improve the error term in the partial sums of the number of representations of integers that are a multiple of $\ell$. This allows us to obtain unconditional Brun-Titchmarsh-type results in short intervals, and a conditional Cramér-type result on the maximum gap between primes represented by a given positive definite quadratic form.
We state and prove an identity which represents the most general eta-products of weight 1 by binary quadratic forms. We discuss the utility of binary quadratic forms in finding a multiplicative completion for certain eta-quotients. We then derive explicit formulas for the Fourier coefficients of certain eta-quotients of weight 1 and level 47, 71, 135,648 1024, and 1872.
Let $-d$ be a a negative discriminant and let $T$ vary over a set of representatives of the integral equivalence classes of integral binary quadratic forms of discriminant $-d$. We prove an asymptotic formula for $d \to \infty$ for the average over $T$ of the number of representations of $T$ by an integral positive definite quaternary quadratic form and obtain results on averages of Fourier coefficients of linear combinations of Siegel theta series. We also find an asymptotic bound from below on the number of binary forms of fixed discriminant $-d$ which are represented by a given quaternary f…
In this article, we establish an average behaviour of the normalised Fourier coefficients of the Hecke eigenforms supported at the integers represented by any primitive integral positive definite binary quadratic form of fixed discriminant $D < 0$ when the class number $h(D) = 1$. We also obtain a quantitative result for the number of sign changes of the sequence of the normalised Fourier coefficients $λ_{f}(n)$ of the Hecke eigenforms $f$ where $n$ is represented by any primitive integral positive definite binary quadratic form of fixed discriminant $D < 0$ when the class number $h(D) = 1$ in…
In this work we prove a prime number type theorem involving the normalised Fourier coefficients of holomorphic and Maass cusp forms, using the classical circle method. A key point is in a recent paper of Fouvry and Ganguly, based on Hoffstein-Ramakrishnan's result about the non-existence of the Siegel zeros for $GL(2)$ $L$-functions, which allows us to improve preceding estimates.
In this paper, we investigate sign changes of Fourier coefficients of half-integral weight cusp forms. In a fixed square class $t\mathbb{Z}^2$, we investigate the sign changes in the $tp^2$-th coefficient as $p$ runs through the split or inert primes over the ring of integers in a quadratic extension of the rationals. We show that sign changes occur in both sets of primes when there exists a prime dividing the discriminant of the field which does not divide the level of the cusp form and find an explicit condition that determines whether sign changes occur when every prime dividing the discrim…
We investigate some extremal problems in Fourier analysis and their connection to a problem in prime number theory. In particular, we improve the current bounds for the largest possible gap between consecutive primes assuming the Riemann hypothesis.
We give an explicit construct of a harmonic weak Maass form $F_Θ$ that is a "lift" of $Θ^3$, where $Θ$ is the classical Jacobi theta function. Just as the Fourier coefficients of $Θ^3$ are related to class numbers of imaginary quadratic fields, the Fourier coefficients of the "holomorphic part" of $F_Θ$ are associated to class numbers of real quadratic fields.
We prove a non-vanishing result of modular L-values with quadratic twists, where the quadratic discriminants are in a short interval. Using this fact and Waldspurger's theorem, we improve the results of Balog-Ono[The chebotarev density theorem in short intervals and some questions of Serre, Journal of number theory. 91(2):356-371(2001)] on the non-vanishing of Fourier coefficients of half-integral weight eigenform.
We study the $q$-analogue of the average of Montgomery's function $F(α, T)$ over bounded intervals. Assuming the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis for Dirichlet $L$-functions, we obtain upper and lower bounds for this average over an interval that are quite close to the pointwise conjectured value of 1. To compute our bounds, we extend a Fourier analysis approach by Carneiro, Chandee, Chirre, and Milinovich, and apply computational methods of non-smooth programming.
We prove sharp $\ell^q L^p$ decoupling inequalities for $p,q \in [2,\infty)$ and arbitrary tuples of quadratic forms. Connections to prior results on decoupling inequalities for quadratic forms are also explained. We also include some applications of our results to exponential sum estimates and to Fourier restriction estimates. The proof of our main result is based on scale-dependent Brascamp--Lieb inequalities.
We study the relation of the middle convolution to the $\ell$-adic Fourier transformation in the étale context. Using Katz' work and Laumon's theory of local Fourier transformations we obtain a detailed description of the local monodromy and the determinant of Katz' middle convolution functor $\MC_χ$ in the tame case. The theory of local $ε$-constants then implies that the property of an étale sheaf of having an at most quadratic determinant is often preserved under $\MC_χ$ if $χ$ is quadratic.
Eigenvectors of the discrete Fourier transform can be expressed using Ramanujan theta functions. New theta function identities, Ramanujan theta function identities, and generating functions for the quadratic numbers are a consequence.
In this paper, we study lower order terms of the $1$-level density of low-lying zeros of quadratic Hecke L-functions in the Gaussian field. Assuming the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis, our result is valid for even test functions whose Fourier transforms are supported in $(-2, 2)$. Moreover, we apply the ratios conjecture of $L$-functions to derive these lower order terms as well. Up to the first lower order term, we show that our results is consistent with each other, when the Fourier transforms of the test functions are supported in $(-2, 2)$.
The Density Conjecture of Katz and Sarnak associates a classical compact group to each reasonable family of $L$-functions. Under the assumption of the Generalized Riemann Hypothesis, Rubinstein computed the $n$-level density of low-lying zeros for the family of quadratic Dirichlet $L$-functions in the case that the Fourier transform $\hat{f}(u)$ of any test function $f$ is supported in the region $\sum^n_{j=1}u_j < 1$ and showed that the result agrees with the Density Conjecture. In this paper, we improve Rubinstein's result on computing the $n$-level density for the Fourier transform $\hat{f}…
We generalize Roth's theorem on three term arithmetic progressions to translation invariant quadratic forms in at least 17 variables. We use Fourier-analysis, restriction theory, uniformity norms and Roth's density increment method to show quantitative estimates for subsets of the integers without any non-trivial solutions.
In this article we give an analogue of Hecke and Sturm bounds for Hilbert modular forms over real quadratic fields. Let $K$ be a real quadratic field and $\Om_K$ its ring of integers. Let $Γ$ be a congruence subgroup of $\SL_2(\Om_K)$ and $M_{(k_1,k_2)}(Γ)$ the space of Hilbert modular forms of weight $(k_1,k_2)$ for $Γ$. The first main result is an algorithm to construct a finite set $S$, depending on $K$, $Γ$ and $(k_1,k_2)$, such that if the Fourier expansion coefficients of a form $G \in M_{(k_1,k_2)}(Γ)$ vanish on the set $S$, then $G$ is the zero form. The second result corresponds to th…
We generalize Merel's work on universal Fourier expansions to Bianchi modular forms over Euclidean imaginary quadratic fields, under the assumption of the nondegeneracy of a pairing between Bianchi modular forms and Bianchi modular symbols. Among the key inputs is a computation of the action of Hecke operators on Manin symbols, and building upon the Heilbronn-Merel matrices constructed by Mohamed.
In this paper, we calculate the Fourier coefficients of the paramodular twist of a Siegel modular form of paramodular level $N$ by a nontrivial quadratic Dirichlet character mod $p$ for $p$ a prime not dividing $N$. As an application, these formulas can be used to verify the nonvanishing of the twist for particular examples. We also deduce that the twists of Maass forms are identically zero.
Previous work by Rubinstein and Gao computed the n-level densities for families of quadratic Dirichlet L-functions for test functions where the sum of the supports of the Fourier transforms is at most 2, and showed agreement with random matrix theory predictions in this range for n < 4 but only in a restricted range for larger n. We extend these results and show agreement for n < 8, and reduce higher n to a Fourier transform identity. The proof involves adopting a new combinatorial perspective to convert all terms to a canonical form, which facilitates the comparison of the two sides.
We give upper bounds on the size of the gap between the constant term and the next non-zero Fourier coefficient of an entire modular form of given weight for Γ_0(2). Numerical evidence indicates that a sharper bound holds for the weights h \equiv 2 . We derive upper bounds for the minimum positive integer represented by level two even positive-definite quadratic forms. Our data suggest that, for certain meromorphic modular forms and p=2,3, the p-order of the constant term is related to the base-p expansion of the order of the pole at infinity, and they suggest a connection between divisibility…
In this paper, we explicitly construct harmonic Maass forms that map to the weight one theta series associated by Hecke to odd ray class group characters of real quadratic fields. From this construction, we give precise arithmetic information contained in the Fourier coefficients of the holomorphic part of the harmonic Maass form, establishing the main part of a conjecture of the second author.
We give upper bounds on the size of the gap between a non-zero constant term and the next non-zero Fourier coefficient of an entire level two modular form. We give upper bounds for the minimum positive integer represented by a level two even positive-definite quadratic form. These bounds extend partial results in part I.
We investigate integrality and divisibility properties of Fourier coefficients of meromorphic modular forms of weight $2k$ associated to positive definite integral binary quadratic forms. For example, we show that if there are no non-trivial cusp forms of weight $2k$, then the $n$-th coefficients of these meromorphic modular forms are divisible by $n^{k-1}$ for every natural number $n$. Moreover, we prove that their coefficients are non-vanishing and have either constant or alternating signs. Finally, we obtain a relation between the Fourier coefficients of meromorphic modular forms, the coeff…
The aim of this article is to study the derivative of "incoherent" Siegel-Eisenstein series on symplectic groups over function fields. By the Siegel-Weil formula for "coherent" Siegel-Eisenstein series, we can relate the non-singular Fourier coefficients of the derivative in question to the arithmetic of quadratic forms. Restricting to the special case when the incoherent quadratic space has dimension 2, we explicitly compute all the Fourier coefficients, and connect the derivative with the special cycles on the coarse moduli schemes of rank 2 Drinfeld modules with "complex multiplication."
