The main goal of this paper is the analytic classification of the germs of singular foliations generated, up to an analytic change of coordinates, by the germs of vector fields of form the $x\partial_x+\sum_{i=1}^{n}a_i(x,\mathbf{z})\partial_{z_i}$, where $a_i(x,\mathbf{z})$ is a germ of analytic function with $a_i(x,0)=0$. We focus on the connection with the conjugation of the holonomies related to them. We prove, under some hypothesis, that these germs of singular foliations are analytically classified once their local holonomy along a given separatrix are analytically conjugated.
This paper deals with the question of analytic continuation of holonomy germs of holomorphic foliations. We prove that for a quasi-minimal Riccati foliation of the complex projective plane, any holonomy germ of the foliation between complex projective lines can be analytically continued along a generic Brownian path.
We are interested in characterizing the holonomy maps associated to integral curves of non-degenerate singularities of holomorphic vector fields. Such a description is well-known in dimension 2 where is a key ingredient in the study of reduced singularities. The most intricate case in the 2 dimensional setting corresponds to (Siegel) saddle singularities. This work treats the analogous problem for saddles in higher dimension. We show that any germ of holomorphic biholomorphism, in any dimension, can be obtained as the holonomy map associated to an integral curve of a saddle singularity. A natu…
In this article we investigate the natural domain of definition of a holonomy map associated to a singular holomorphic foliation of the complex projective plane. We prove that germs of holonomy between algebraic curves can have large sets of singularities for the analytic continuation. In the Riccati context we provide examples with natural boundary and maximal sets of singularities. In the generic case we provide examples having at least a Cantor set of singularities and even a nonempty open set of singularities. The examples provided are based on the presence of sufficiently rich contracting…
In this paper we study the problem of analytic extension of germs of holonomy of algebraic foliations. More precisely we prove that for a Riccati foliation associated to a branched projective structure over a finite type surface which is non-elementary and parabolic, all the germs of holonomy between a fiber and a holomorphic section of the bundle are led to singularities by almost every developed geodesic ray. We study in detail the distribution of these singularities and prove in particular that they are included and dense in the limit set and uncountable, giving another negative answer to a…
We prove that a representation of the fundamental group of a quasi-projective manifold into the group of formal diffeomorphisms of one variable either is virtually abelian or, after taking the quotient by its center, factors through an orbicurve.
We prove a generalisation of Bott's vanishing theorem for the full transverse frame holonomy groupoid of any transversely orientable foliated manifold. As a consequence we obtain a characteristic map encoding both primary and secondary characteristic classes. Previous descriptions of this characteristic map are formulated for the Morita equivalent étale groupoid obtained via a choice of complete transversal. By working with the full holonomy groupoid we obtain novel geometric representatives of characteristic classes. In particular we give a geometric, non-étale analogue of the codimension 1 G…
We study groups of germs of complex diffeomorphisms having a property called irreducibility. The notion is motivated by a similar property of the fundamental group of the complement of an irreducible hypersurface in the complex projective space. Natural examples of such groups of germ maps are given by holonomy groups and monodromy groups of integrable systems (foliations) under certain conditions on the singular or ramification set. The case of complex dimension one is studied in [7] where finiteness is proved for irreducible groups under certain arithmetic hypothesis on the linear part. In d…
We study the holonomy cocycle H of a holomorphic foliation \Fc by Riemann surfaces defined on a compact complex projective surface X satisfying the following two conditions: 1) its singularities E are all hyperbolic; 2) there is no holomorphic non-constant map \C\to X such that out of E the image of \C is locally contained in a leaf. Let T be a harmonic current tangent to \Fc which does not give mass to any invariant analytic curve. Using the leafwise Poincaré metric, we show that H is integrable with respect to T. Consequently, we infer the existence of the Lyapunov exponent function of T.
We build a germ of singular foliation in dimension two with analytical class of separatrix and holonomy representations prescribed. Thanks to this construction, we study the link between moduli of a foliation and moduli of its separatrix.
We consider a partially hyperbolic C1-diffeomorphism f on a smooth compact manifold M with a uniformly compact f-invariant center foliation. We show that if the unstable bundle is one-dimensional and oriented, then the holonomy of the center foliation vanishes everywhere, the quotient space of the center foliation is a torus and f induces a hyperbolic automorphism on it, in particular, f is centrally transitive. We actually obtain further interesting results without restrictions on the unstable, stable and center dimension: we prove a kind of spectral decomposition for the chain recurrent set …
Following Losik's approach to Gelfand's formal geometry, certain characteristic classes for codimension-one foliations coming from the Gelfand-Fuchs cohomology are considered. Sufficient conditions for non-triviality in terms of dynamical properties of generators of the holonomy groups are found. The non-triviality for the Reeb foliations is shown; this is in contrast with some classical theorems on the Godbillon-Vey class, e.g, the Mizutani-Morita-Tsuboi Theorem about triviality of the Godbillon-Vey class of foliations almost without holonomy is not true for the classes under consideration. I…
An asymptotic expansion is established for time averages of translation flows on flat surfaces. This result, which extends earlier work of A.Zorich and G.Forni, yields limit theorems for translation flows. The argument, close in spirit to that of G.Forni, uses the approximation of ergodic integrals by holonomy-invariant Hoelder cocycles on trajectories of the flows. The space of holonomy-invariant Hoelder cocycles is finite-dimensional, and is given by an explicit construction. First, a symbolic representation for a uniquely ergodic translation flow is obtained following S.Ito and A.M. Vershik…
In this work, we develop shape expansions of minimal matchbox manifolds without holonomy, in terms of branched manifolds formed from their leaves. Our approach is based on the method of coding the holonomy groups for the foliated spaces, to define leafwise regions which are transversely stable and are adapted to the foliation dynamics. Approximations are obtained by collapsing appropriately chosen neighborhoods onto these regions along a "transverse Cantor foliation". The existence of the "transverse Cantor foliation" allows us to generalize standard techniques known for Euclidean and fibered …
We study some kind of rigidity property for dicritical foliation in the complex plane. In fact, we prove that for a generic dicritical foliation, there exists deformations of the resolution space which cannot carry any deformation of the foliation with constant holonomy pseudo-group. This situation never occurs in the non-dicritical case.
In this paper, we study the dynamics of Riccati foliations over non-compact finite volume Riemann surfaces. More precisely, we are interested in two closely related questions: the asymptotic behaviour of the holonomy map Hol t ($ω$) defined for every time t over a generic Brownian path $ω$ in the base; and the analytic continuation of holonomy germs of the foliation along Brownian paths in transversal lines. When the monodromy representation is parabolic (i.e. the monodromy around any puncture is a parabolic element in P SL 2 (C)), these questions have already been solved in [DD2] and [Hus]. H…
We prove a result of classification for germs of formal and convergent quasi-homogeneous foliations in C^2 with fixed separatrix. Basically, we prove that the analytical and formal class of such a foliation depend respectively only on the analytical and formal class of its representation of projective holonomy.
In this paper we study bilipschitz equivalences of germs of holomorphic foliations in $(\mathbb{C}^2,0)$. We prove that the algebraic multiplicity of a singularity is invariant by such equivalences. Moreover, for a large class of singularities, we show that the projective holonomy representation is also a bilipschitz invariant.
We introduce and give normal forms for (one-dimensional) Riccati foliations (vector fields) on $\ov \bc \times \bc P(2)$ and $\ov \bc \times \ov \bc^n$. These are foliations are characterized by transversality with the generic fiber of the first projection and we prove they are conjugate {\em in some invariant Zariski open subset} to the suspension of a group of automorphisms of the fiber, $\bc P(2)$ or $\ov \bc^n$, this group called {\it global holonomy}. Our main result states that given a finitely generated subgroup $G$ of $\Aut(\bc P (2))$, there is a Riccati foliation on $\ov \bc \times \…
A transitive compact foliated space is shown to be a Riemannian foliation if and only if it is locally connected, finite dimensional, strongly equicontinuous and quasi-analytic, and the closure of its holonomy pseudogroup is quasi-analytic.
In this article we study the analytic classification of certain types of quasi-homogeneous cuspidal holomorphic foliations in $(\CC^3,{\bf 0})$ via the essential holonomy defined over one of the components of the exceptional divisor that appears in the reduction of the singularities of the foliation.
We classify two dimensional neighborhoods of an elliptic curve C with torsion normal bundle, up to formal equivalence. The proof makes use of the existence of a pair (indeed a pencil) of formal foliations having C as a common leaf, and the fact that neighborhoods are completely determined by the holonomy of such a pair. We also discussanalytic equivalence and show, for each formal model, that the corresponding moduli space is infinite dimensional.
We study a special kind of local invariant sets of singular holomorphic foliations called nodal separators. We define notions of equisingularity and topological equivalence for nodal separators as intrinsic objects and, in analogy with the celebrated theorem of Zariski for analytic curves, we prove the equivalence of these notions. We give some applications in the study of topological equivalences of holomorphic foliations. In particular, we show that the nodal singularities and its eigenvalues in the resolution of a generalized curve are topological invariants.
We give a complete topological classification of germs of holomorphic foliations in the plane under rather generic conditions. The key point is the introduction of a new topological invariant called monodromy representation. This monodromy contains all the relevant dynamical information, in particular the projective holonomy representation whose topological invariance was conjectured in the eighties by Cerveau and Sad and proved here under mild hypotheses.
We consider germs of holomorphic vector fields with an isolated singularity at the origin $0\in\mathbb{C}^2$. We introduce a notion of stability, similar to "Lyapunov stability". For such a germ, called $L$-stable singularity, either the corresponding foliation admits a holomorphic first integral, or it is a real logarithmic foliation singularity. A notion of $L$-stability is also naturally introduced for a leaf of a foliation. In the complex codimension one case, for holomorphic foliations, the holonomy groups of $L$-stable leaves are proved to be abelian, of a suitable type. This implies the…
Motivated by the study of Hörmander's sums-of-squares operators and their generalizations, we define the convolution algebra of transverse distributions associated to a singular foliation. We prove that this algebra is represented as continuous linear operators on the spaces of smooth functions and generalized functions on the underlying manifold, and on the leaves and their holonomy covers. This generalizes Schwartz kernel operators to singular foliations. We also define the algebra of smoothing operators in this context and prove that it is a two-sided ideal.
This work deals with the topological classification of singular foliation germs on $(\mathbb C^{2},0)$. Working in a suitable class of foliations we fix the topological invariants given by the separatrix set, the Camacho-Sad indices and the projective holonomy representations and we prove the existence of a topological universal deformation through which every equisingular deformation uniquely factorizes up to topological conjugacy. This is done by representing the functor of topological classes of equisingular deformations of a fixed foliation. We also describe the functorial dependence of th…
This work deals with the topological classification of germs of singular foliations on $(\mathbb C^{2},0)$. Working in a suitable class of foliations we fix the topological invariants given by the separatrix set, the Camacho-Sad indices and the projective holonomy representations and we compute the moduli space of topological classes in terms of the cohomology of a new algebraic object that we call group-graph. This moduli space may be an infinite dimensional functional space but under generic conditions we prove that it has finite dimension and we describe its algebraic and topological struct…
We consider an embedded $n$-dimensional compact complex manifold in $n+d$ dimensional complex manifolds. We are interested in the holomorphic classification of neighborhoods as part of Grauert's formal principle program. We will give conditions ensuring that a neighborhood of $C_n$ in $M_{n+d}$ is biholomorphic to a neighborhood of the zero section of its normal bundle. This extends Arnold's result about neighborhoods of a complex torus in a surface. We also prove the existence of a holomorphic foliation in $M_{n+d }$ having $C_n$ as a compact leaf, extending Ueda's theory to the high codimens…
We prove that a $C^{\infty}$ equivalence between germs holomorphic foliations at $({\mathbb C}^2,0)$ establishes a bijection between the sets of formal separatrices preserving equisingularity classes. As a consequence, if one of the foliations is of second type, so is the other and they are equisingular.
For finitely generated groups, amenability and Følner properties are equivalent. However, contrary to a widespread idea, Kaimanovich showed that Følner condition does not imply amenability for discrete measured equivalence relations. In this paper, we exhibit two examples of $C^\infty$ foliations of closed manifolds that are Følner and non amenable with respect to a finite transverse invariant measure and a transverse invariant volume, respectively. We also prove the equivalence between the two notions when the foliation is minimal, that is all the leaves are dense, giving a positive answer to…
We study the leading term of the holonomy map of a perturbed plane polynomial Hamiltonian foliation. The non-vanishing of this term implies the non-persistence of the corresponding Hamiltonian identity cycle. We prove that this does happen for generic perturbations and cycles, as well for cycles which are commutators in Hamiltonian foliations of degree two. Our approach relies on the Chen's theory of iterated path integrals which we briefly resume.
We study under the standpoint of integrable complex analytic 1-forms (complex analytic foliations), a class of second order ordinary differential equations with periodic coefficients. More precisely, we study Hill's equations of motion of the moon, which are related to the dynamics of the system Sun-Earth-Moon. We associate to the {\em complex Hill equation} an integrable complex analytic one-form in dimension three. This defines a {\it Hill foliation}. The existence of first integral for a Hill foliation is then studied. The simple cases correspond to the existence of rational or Liouvillian …
Given a n-dimensional lamination endowed with a Riemannian metric, we introduce the notion of a multiplicative cocycle of rank d, where n and d are arbitrary positive integers. The holonomy cocycle of a foliation and its exterior powers as well as its tensor powers provide examples of multiplicative cocycles. Next, we define the Lyapunov exponents of such a cocycle with respect to a harmonic probability measure directed by the lamination. We also prove an Oseledec multiplicative ergodic theorem in this context. This theorem implies the existence of an Oseledec decomposition almost everywhere w…
