In this paper, we mainly study immersed self-expander hypersurfaces in Euclidean space whose mean curvatures have some linear growth controls. We discuss the volume growths and the finiteness of the weighted volumes. We prove some theorems that characterize the hyperplanes through the origin as self-expanders. We estimate upper bound of the bottom of the spectrum of the drifted Laplacian. We also give the upper and lower bounds for the bottom of the spectrum of the $L$-stability operator and discuss the $L$-stability of some special self-expanders. Besides, we prove that the surfaces $Γ\times\mathbb{R}$ with the product metric are the only complete self-expander surfaces immersed in $\mathbb{R}^3$ with constant scalar curvature, where $Γ$ is a complete self-expander curve (properly) immersed in $\mathbb{R}^2$.
$λ$-self-expanders $Σ$ in $\mathbb{R}^{n+1}$ are the solutions of the isoperimetric problem with respect to the same weighted area form as in the study of the self-expanders. In this paper, we mainly extend the results on self-expanders which we obtained in \cite{ancari2020volum} to $λ$-self-expanders. We prove some results that characterize the hyperplanes, spheres and cylinders as $λ$-self-expanders. We also discuss the area growths and the finiteness of the weighted areas under the control of the growth of the mean curvature.
In this paper, we study self-expanders for mean curvature flows. First we show the discreteness of the spectrum of the drifted Laplacian on them. Next we give a universal lower bound of the bottom of the spectrum of the drifted Laplacian and prove that this lower bound is achieved if and only if the self-expander is the Euclidian subspace through the origin. Further, for self-expanders of codimension $1$, we prove an inequality between the bottom of the spectrum of the drifted Laplacian and the bottom of the spectrum of weighted stability operator and that the hyperplane through the origin is …
We show that any complete, immersed self-expander to the inverse mean curvature flow, which has one end asymptotic to a cylinder, or has two ends asymptotic to two coaxial cylinders, must be rotationally symmetric.
In [19], we prove that if an entire, spacelike, convex hypersurface $\mathcal{M}_{u_0}$ has bounded principal curvatures, then the $σ_k^{1/α}$ (power of $σ_k$) curvature flow starting from $\mathcal{M}_{u_0}$ admits a smooth convex solution $u$ for $t>0.$ Moreover, after rescaling, the flow converges to a convex self-expander $\tilde{\mathcal{M}}=\{(x, \tilde{u}(x))\mid x\in\mathbb{R}^n\}$ that satisfies $σ_k(κ[\tilde{\mathcal{M}}])=(-\left<X_0, ν_0\right>)^α.$ Unfortunately, the existence of self-expander for power of $σ_k$ curvature flow in Minkowski space has not been studied before. In thi…
We study self-expanding solutions $M^m\subset\mathbb{R}^{n}$ of the mean curvature flow. One of our main results is, that complete mean convex self-expanding hypersurfaces are products of self-expanding curves and flat subspaces, if and only if the function $|A|^2/|H|^2$ attains a local maximum, where $A$ denotes the second fundamental form and $H$ the mean curvature vector of $M$. If the pricipal normal $ξ=H/|H|$ is parallel in the normal bundle, then a similar result holds in higher codimension for the function $|A^ξ|^2/|H|^2$, where $A^ξ$ is the second fundamental form with respect to $ξ$. …
We construct examples of shrinkers and expanders for Lagrangian mean curvature flows. These examples are Hamiltonian stationary and asymptotic to the union of two Hamiltonian stationary cones found by Schoen and Wolfson. The Schoen-Wolfson cones $C_{p,q}$ are obstructions to the existence problems of special Lagrangians or Lagrangian minimal surfaces in the variational approach. It is known that these cone singularities cannot be resolved by any smooth oriented Lagrangian submanifolds. The shrinkers and expanders that we found can be glued together to yield solutions of the Brakke motion-a wea…
In this article, we examine complete, mean-convex self-expanders for the mean curvature flow whose ends have decaying principal curvatures. We prove a Liouville-type theorem associated to this class of self-expanders. As an application, we show that mean-convex self-expanders which are asymptotic to $O(n)$-invariant cones are rotationally symmetric.
We show that the space of asymptotically conical self-expanders of the mean curvature flow is a smooth Banach manifold. An immediate consequence is that non-degenerate self-expanders -- that is, those self-expanders that admit no non-trivial normal Jacobi fields that fix the asymptotic cone -- are generic in a certain sense.
We derive the equation of self-similar solutions to mean curvature flow based on the generalized Lawson-Osserman cone and prove the existence of self-expanders by modifying the theory of equilibria in the autonomous system. In particular, those self-expanders are unique if a local assumption is given.
We show compactness in the locally smooth topology for certain natural families of asymptotically conical self-expanding solutions of mean curvature flow. Specifically, we show such compactness for the set of all two-dimensional self-expanders of a fixed topological type and, in all dimensions, for the set of self-expanders of low entropy and for the set of mean convex self-expanders with strictly mean convex asymptotic cones. From this we deduce that the natural projection map from the space of parameterizations of asymptotically conical self-expanders to the space of parameterizations of the…
In this paper, we study self-expanding solutions to a large class of parabolic inverse curvature flows by homogeneous symmetric functions of principal curvatures in Euclidean spaces. These flows include the inverse mean curvature flow and many nonlinear flows in the literature. We first show that the only compact self-expanders to any of these flows are round spheres. Secondly, we show that complete non-compact self-expanders to any of these flows with asymptotically cylindrical ends must be rotationally symmetric. Thirdly, we show that when such a flow is uniformly parabolic, there exist comp…
In this paper we get a version of mean value inequality for generalized self-expander type submanifolds in Euclidean space. As the application, we prove that if mean curvature flow $M(t)$ on the self-expander in Euclidean space subconverges to an $n$-rectifiable varifold $T$ in weak sense for $t$ goes to the singular time, then $T$ must be the cone.
We investigate self-similar solutions to the inverse mean curvature flow in Euclidean space. In the case of one dimensional planar solitons, we explicitly classify all homothetic solitons and translators. Generalizing Andrews' theorem that circles are the only compact homothetic planar solitons, we apply the Hsiung-Minkowski integral formula to prove the rigidity of the hypersphere in the class of compact expanders of codimension one. We also establish that the moduli space of compact expanding surfaces of codimension two is big. Finally, we update the list of Huisken-Ilmanen's rotational expa…
For the Bach-flat closed manifold with positive scalar curvature, we prove a rigidity result under a given inequality involving the Weyl curvature and the traceless Ricci curvature. Moveover, under an inequality involving $L^{\frac{n}{2}}$-norm of the Weyl curvature, the traceless Ricci curvature and the Yamabe invariant, we also provide a similar rigidity result. As an application, we obtain some rigidity results on 4-dimensional manifolds.
We study rigidity results for the Einstein metrics as the critical points of a family of known quadratic curvature functionals involving the scalar curvature, the Ricci curvature and the Riemannian curvature tensor, characterized by some pointwise inequalities involving the Weyl curvature and the traceless Ricci curvature. Moreover, we also provide a few rigidity results for locally conformally flat critical metrics.
We study a notion of relative entropy motivated by self-expanders of mean curvature flow. In particular, we obtain the existence of this quantity for arbitrary hypersurfaces trapped between two disjoint self-expanders asymptotic to the same cone. This allows us to begin to develop the variational theory for the relative entropy functional for the associated obstacle problem. We also obtain a version of the forward monotonicity formula for mean curvature flow proposed by Ilmanen.
We prove a Lipschitz-Volume rigidity theorem for the non-collapsed Gromov-Hausdorff limits of manifolds with Ricci curvature bounded from below. This is a counterpart of the Lipschitz-Volume rigidity in Alexandrov geometry.
In this paper we extend the local scalar curvature rigidity result in [6] to a small domain on general vacuum static spaces, which confirms the interesting dichotomy of local surjectivity and local rigidity about the scalar curvature in general in the light of the paper [10]. We obtain the local scalar curvature rigidity of bounded domains in hyperbolic spaces. We also obtain the global scalar curvature rigidity for conformal deformations of metrics in the domains, where the lapse functions are positive, on vacuum static spaces with positive scalar curvature, and show such domains are maximal,…
Motivated by Brendle-Marques-Neves' counterexample to the Min-Oo's conjecture, we prove a volume constrained scalar curvature rigidity theorem which applies to the hemisphere.
In this paper, we consider some rigidity results for the Einstein metrics as the critical points of some known quadratic curvature functionals on complete manifolds, characterized by some point-wise inequalities. Moreover, we also provide rigidity results by the integral inequalities involving the Weyl curvature, the trace-less Ricci curvature and the Sobolev constant, accordingly.
In this paper, we prove some rigidity results for the Einstein metrics as the critical points of a family of known quadratic curvature functionals on closed manifolds, characterized by some point-wise inequalities. Moreover, we also provide a few rigidity results that involve the Weyl curvature, the trace-less Ricci curvature and the Yamabe invariant, accordingly.
A compactness theorem is proved for a family of Kähler surfaces with constant scalar curvature and volume bounded from below, diameter bounded from above, Ricci curvature bounded and the signature bounded from below. Furthermore, a splitting theorem and some rigidity theorems are proved for Einstein-Maxwell systems.
In a recent work of Brendle-Hirsch-Johne, a notion of intermediate curvature was introduced to extend the classical non-existence theorem of positive scalar curvature on torus to product manifolds. In this work, we study the rigidity when the intermediate curvature is only non-negative when the ambient dimension is at most $5$.
We prove some boundary rigidity results for the hemisphere under a lower bound for Ricci curvature. The main result can be viewed as the Ricci version of a conjecture of Min-Oo.
We prove that a Kahler manifold with positive bisectional curvature and maximal diameter is isometric to the complex projective space with the Fubini-Study metric.
We will show the Cheeger-Colding segment inequality for manifolds with integral Ricci curvature bound. By using this segment inequality, the almost rigidity structure results for integral Ricci curvature will be derived by a similar method as in \cite{CC1}. And the sharp Hölder continuity result of \cite{CoN} holds in the limit space of manifolds with integral Ricci curvature bound.
We study Riemannian manifolds with boundary under a lower $N$-weighted Ricci curvature bound for $N$ at most $1$, and under a lower weighted mean curvature bound for the boundary. We examine rigidity phenomena in such manifolds with boundary. We conclude a volume growth rigidity theorem for the metric neighborhoods of the boundaries, and various splitting theorems. We also obtain rigidity theorems for the smallest Dirichlet eigenvalues for the weighted $p$-Laplacians.
Let $M$ be an open Riemannian $n$-manifold with nonnegative Ricci curvature. We prove that if the first Betti number of $M$ equals $n-1$, then $M$ is flat.
We prove that the Euclidean plane is the only Riemannian plane with total curvature and free of conjugate points that satisfies Playfair's version of the parallel postulate.
We study Riemannian manifolds with boundary under a lower Bakry-E'mery Ricci curvature bound. In our weighted setting, we prove several rigidity theorems for such manifolds with boundary. We conclude a rigidity theorem for the inscribed radii, a volume growth rigidity theorem for the metric neighborhoods of the boundaries, and various splitting theorems. We also obtain rigidity results for the smallest Dirichlet eigenvalues for the weighted p-Laplacians.
Here, an extension of the Obata-Tanno's theorem to Finsler geometry is established and the following rigidity result is obtained; Every complete connected Finsler manifold of positive constant flag curvature is isometrically homeomorphic to an $n$-sphere equipped with a certain Finsler metric, and vise versa.
In this paper, we provide some remarks on the scalar curvature rigidity theorem of Brendle and Marques in \cite{BrendleMarques}. The main result is that Brendle and Marques' theorem holds on a geodesic ball larger than that specified in [2].
We prove that a hemisphere in the Euclidean space $R^{n+1}$, viewed as the graph of a function, admits no smooth perturbations as graphs with mean curvature $H\ge 1$ whose boundary equator is fixed up to $C^2$. This is an extension of the \emph{Mean Curvature Rigidity} phenomenon discovered by Gromov and Souam on non-compact totally umbilic hypersurfaces in space forms. The proof uses a Tangency Principle. On the other hand, we show that there exist nontrivial smooth perturbations with $H\ge 1$ on a great spherical cap whose boundary is fixed up to $C^2$. Similar results hold true for perturba…
A rigidity result for weakly asymptotically hyperbolic manifolds with lower bounds on Ricci curvature is proved without assuming that the manifolds are spin. The argument makes use of a quasi-local mass characterization of Euclidean balls from \cite{Miao} \cite{S_T} and eigenfunction compactification ideas from \cite{Qing}.
We study Riemannian manifolds with boundary under a lower Ricci curvature bound, and a lower mean curvature bound for the boundary. We prove a volume comparison theorem of Bishop-Gromov type concerning the volumes of the metric neighborhoods of the boundaries. We conclude several rigidity theorems. As one of them, we obtain a volume growth rigidity theorem. We also show a splitting theorem of Cheeger-Gromoll type under the assumption of the existence of a single ray.
An Einstein manifold is called scalar curvature rigid if there are no compactly supported volume-preserving deformation of the metric which increase the scalar curvature. We give various characterizations of scalar curvature rigidity for open Einstein manifolds as well as for closed Einstein manifolds. As an application, we construct mass-decreasing perturbations of the Riemannian Schwarzschild metric and the Taub-Bolt metric.
In this paper, we first investigate several rigidity problems for hypersurfaces in the warped product manifolds with constant linear combinations of higher order mean curvatures as well as "weighted'' mean curvatures, which extend the work \cite{Mon, Brendle,BE} considering constant mean curvature functions. Secondly, we obtain the rigidity results for hypersurfaces in the space forms with constant linear combinations of intrinsic Gauss-Bonnet curvatures $L_k$. To achieve this, we develop some new kind of Newton-Maclaurin type inequalities on $L_k$ which may have independent interest.
In the current paper, first we give the correct version of the formula for mean Berwald curvature of a spherically symmetric Finsler metric given in paper \cite{YCheWSon2015}. Further, we establish differential equations characterizing projectively as well as dually flat spherically symmetric Finsler metrics. Finally, we obtain a rigidity result on spherically symmetric Finsler metrics with isotropic $E$-Curvature.
We study the rigidity of complete, embedded constant mean curvature surfaces in R^3. Among other things, we prove that when such a surface has finite genus, then intrinsic isometries of the surface extend to isometries of R^3 or its isometry group contains an index two subgroup of isometries that extend.
In this paper, we are going to show some rigidity results for complete open Riemannian manifolds with nonnegative scalar curvature. Without using the famous Cheeger-Gromoll splitting theorem we give a new proof to a rigidity result for complete manifolds with nonnegative scalar curvature admitting a proper smooth map to $T^{n-1}\times \mathbf R$ with nonzero degree. Here we introduce a trick to obtain the compactness of limit hypersurface from locally graphical convergence. Based on the same idea we also establish an optimal $2$-systole inequality for several classes of complete Riemannian man…
We construct many self-similar and translating solitons for Lagrangian mean curvature flow, including self-expanders and translating solitons with arbitrarily small oscillation on the Lagrangian angle. Our translating solitons play the same role as cigar solitons in Ricci flow, and are important in studying the regularity of Lagrangian mean curvature flow. Given two transverse Lagrangian planes R^n in C^n with sum of characteristic angles less than pi, we show there exists a Lagrangian self-expander asymptotic to this pair of planes. The Maslov class of these self-expanders is zero. Thus they …
We study closed $n$-dimensional manifolds of which the metrics are critical for quadratic curvature functionals involving the Ricci curvature, the scalar curvature and the Riemannian curvature tensor on the space of Riemannian metrics with unit volume. Under some additional integral conditions, we classify such manifolds. Moreover, under some curvature conditions, the result that a critical metric must be Einstein is proved.
We give rigidity results for the discrete Bonnet-Myers diameter bound and the Lichnerowicz eigenvalue estimate. Both inequalities are sharp if and only if the underlying graph is a hypercube. The proofs use well-known semigroup methods as well as new direct methods which translate curvature to combinatorial properties. Our results can be seen as first known discrete analogues of Cheng's and Obata's rigidity theorems.
