Cauchy problem for 3D incompressible Hall-magnetohydrodynamics (Hall-MHD) system with fractional Laplacians is studied. First, global well-posedness of small-energy solutions with general initial data in $H^s$, $s>\frac{5}{2}$, is proved. Second, a special class of large-energy initial data is constructed, with which the Cauchy problem is globally well-posed. The proofs rely upon a new global bound of energy estimates involving Littlewood-Paley decomposition and Sobolev inequalities, which enables one to overcome the $\frac{1}{2}$-order derivative loss of the magnetic field.
Whether or not the classical solutions of the two-dimensional (2D) incompressible magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) equations with only Laplacian magnetic diffusion (without velocity dissipation) are globally well-posed is a difficult problem and remains completely open. In this paper, we establish the global regularity of solutions to the 2D incompressible MHD equations with almost Laplacian magnetic diffusion in the whole space. This result can be regarded as a further improvement and generalization of the previous works. Consequently, our result is more closer to the resolution of the global regul…
We prove several Liouville type results for the stationary MHD and Hall-MHD equations. In particular, we show that the velocity and magnetic field, belonging to some Lorentz spaces or satisfying a priori decay assumption, must be zero.
In this paper we prove a Liouville type theorem for the stationary MHD and the stationary Hall-MHD systems. Assuming suitable growth condition at infinity for the mean oscillations for the potential functions, we show that the solutions are trivial. These results generalize the previous results obtained by two of the current authors in [6]. To prove our main theorems we use a refined iteration argument.
In this note we investigate Liouville type theorems for the steady three dimensional MHD and Hall-MHD equations, and show that the velocity field $u$ and the magnetic field $B$ are vanishing provided that $B\in L^{6,\infty}(\mathbb{R}^3)$ and $u\in BMO^{-1}(\mathbb{R}^3)$, which state that the velocity field plays an important role. Moreover, the similar result holds in the case of partial viscosity or diffusivity for the three dimensional MHD equations.
This paper is concerned with the Liouville type theorems for the 3D stationary incompressible Hall-MHD equations. We establish that under some sufficient conditions in local Morrey spaces, solutions of the stationary Hall-MHD equations are identically zero. In particular, we also prove Liouville type results for the stationary incompressible MHD equations on $\mathbb{R}^3$. Our theorems extend and generalize the classical results for the stationary incompressible Navier-Stokes equations.
By using a set of scaling limits, the authors in \cite{ADFL,SS} proposed a framework of deriving the Hall-MHD equations from the two-fluids Euler-Maxwell equations for electrons and ions. In this paper, we derive the Hall-MHD equations from the Navier-Stokes-Maxwell equations with generalized Ohm's law in a mathematically rigorous way via the spectral analysis and energy methods.
In this paper, we study the Liouville--type theorems for three--dimensional stationary incompressible MHD and Hall--MHD systems in a slab with periodic boundary condition. We show that, under the assumptions that $(u^θ,b^θ)$ or $(u^r,b^r)$ is axisymmetric, or $(ru^r,rb^r)$ is bounded, any smooth bounded solution to the MHD or Hall--MHD system with local Dirichlet integral growing as an arbitrary power function must be constant. This hugely improves the result of \cite[Theorem 1.2]{pan2021Liouville}, where the Dirichlet integral of $\mathbf{u}$ is assumed to be finite. Motivated by \cite[Bang--…
The Hall-magnetohydrodynamics (Hall-MHD) equations, rigorously derived from kinetic models, are useful in describing many physical phenomena in geophysics and astrophysics. This paper studies the local well-posedness of classical solutions to the Hall-MHD equations with the magnetic diffusion given by a fractional Laplacian operator, $(-Δ)^α$. Due to the presence of the Hall term in the Hall-MHD equations, standard energy estimates appear to indicate that we need $α\ge 1$ in order to obtain the local well-posedness. This paper breaks the barrier and shows that the fractional Hall-MHD equations…
We establish local well-posedness of the Hall-magneto-hydrodynamics (Hall-MHD) system in the Sobolev space $\left(H^s(\mathbb{R}^n)\right)^2$ with $s>\frac n2$. The previously known local well-posedness space was $\left(H^s(\mathbb{R}^n)\right)^2$ with $s>\frac n2+1$. Thus the result presented here is an improvement.
We introduce the concept of intermittency dimension for the magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) to quantify the intermittency effect. With dependence on the intermittency dimension, we derive phenomenological laws for intermittent MHD turbulence with and without the Hall effect. In particular, scaling laws of dissipation wavenumber, energy spectra and structure functions are predicted. Moreover, we are able to provide estimates for energy spectra and structure functions which are consistent with the predicted scalings.
The local existence of smooth solutions to the inviscid Hall-MHD system has been obtained since Chae, Degond and Liu [Ann. Inst. H. Poincaré Anal. Non Linéaire, {31} (2014), 555--565]. However, as we known, how to construct the global small solutions to the inviscid Hall-MHD system is still an open problem. In the present paper, we give a positive answer in $ \mathbb{T}^3$ when the initial magnetic field is close to a background magnetic field satisfying the Diophantine condition.
We consider the magnetohydrodynamics system with Hall effect accompanied with initial data in supercritical Sobolev space. Via an appropriate randomization of the supercritical initial data, both local and small data global well-posedness for the system are obtained almost surely in critical Sobolev space.
Under the condition of small external forces, we obtain existence of a weak solution of the steady Hall-MHD system with Hölder continuous magnetic field. We also established regularity of weak solutions provided that magnetic fields are bounded. For sufficiently small external forces, uniqueness result is also established.
We consider the 3D incompressible Hall-MHD system and prove a stability theorem for global large solutions under a suitable integrable hypothesis in which one of the parcels is linked to the Hall term. As a byproduct, a class of global strong solutions is obtained with large velocities and small initial magnetic fields. Moreover, we prove the local-in-time well-posedness of $H^{2}$-strong solutions which improves previous regularity conditions on initial data.
In this paper, we consider the global well-posedness of the incompressible Hall-MHD equations in $\mathbb{R}^3$. We prove that the solution of this system is globally regular if the initial data is axisymmetric and the swirl components of the velocity and magnetic vorticity are trivial. It should be pointed out that the initial data without any smallness and in low regularity spaces. This improves a previous result established in \cite{Fan2013}.
In this paper we prove a Liouville type theorem for the stationary magnetohydrodynamics(MHD) system in $\Bbb R^3$. Let $(v, B, p)$ be a smooth solution to the stationary MHD equations in $\Bbb R^3$. We show that if there exist smooth matrix valued potential functions ${\bf Φ}$, ${\bf Ψ}$ such that $ \nabla \cdot {\bf Φ} =v$ and $\nabla \cdot {\bf Ψ}= B$, whose $L^6$ mean oscillations have certain growth condition near infinity, namely $$-\!\!\!\!\!\int_{B(r)} |\mathbfΦ - \mathbfΦ_{ B(r)} |^6 dx + -\!\!\!\!\!\int_{B(r)} |\mathbfΨ- \mathbfΨ_{ B(r)} |^6 dx\le C r\quad \forall 1< r< +\infty,$$ the…
Non-unique weak solutions in Leray-Hopf class are constructed for the three dimensional magneto-hydrodynamics with Hall effect. We adapt the widely appreciated convex integration framework developed in a recent work of Buckmaster and Vicol for the Navier-Stokes equation, and with deep roots in a sequence of breakthrough papers for the Euler equation.
We derive dyadic models for the magnetohydrodynamics with Hall effect by including the intermittency dimension as a parameter. For such dyadic models, existence of global weak solutions is established. In addition, local strong solution is obtained; while global strong solution is obtained in the case of high intermittency dimension. Moreover, we show that positive solution with large initial data develops blow-up in finite time provided the intermittency dimension is lower than a threshold.
We address the analyticity and large time decay rates for strong solutions of the Hall-MHD equations. By Gevrey estimates, we show that the strong solution with small initial date in $H^r(\mathbb{R}^3)$ with $r>\f 52$ becomes analytic immediately after $t>0$, and the radius of analyticity will grow like $\sqrt{t}$ in time. Upper and lower bounds on the decay of higher order derivatives are also obtained, which extends the previous work by Chae and Schonbek (J. Differential Equations 255 (2013), 3971--3982).
We show that the viscous resistive magneto-hydrodynamics system with Hall effect is locally well-posed in $H^s(\mathbb R^n)\times H^{s+1-\varepsilon}(\mathbb R^n)$ with $s>\frac{n}2-1$ and any small enough $\varepsilon>0$ such that $s+1-\varepsilon>\frac{n}2$. This space is to date the largest local well-posedness space in the class of Sobolev spaces for the system. It is also optimal according to the predominant scalings of the two equations in the system.
In this paper, the global smooth solution of Cauchy's problem of incompressible, resistive, viscous Hall-magnetohydrodynamics (Hall-MHD) is studied. By exploring the nonlinear structure of Hall-MHD equations, a class of large initial data is constructed, which can be arbitrarily large in $H^3(\mathbb{R}^3)$. Our result may also be considered as the extension of work of Lei-Lin-Zhou from the second-order semi-linear equations to the second-order quasilinear equations, because the Hall term elevates the Hall-MHD system to the quasilinear level.
In this paper, we first prove the local well-posedness of strong solutions to the incompressible Hall-MHD system for initial data $(u_0,B_0)\in H^{\frac{1}{2}+σ}(\mathbb{R}^3)\times H^{\frac{3}{2}}(\mathbb{R}^3)$ with $σ\in (0,2)$. In particular, if the viscosity coefficient is equal to the resistivity coefficient, we can reduce $σ$ to $0$ with the aid of the new formulation of the Hall-MHD system observed by Danchin and Tan (Commun Partial Differ Equ 46(1):31-65, 2021). Compared with the previous works, our local well-posedness results improve the regularity condition on the initial data. Mor…
In this paper, we are concerned with global existence and optimal decay rates of solutions for the three-dimensional compressible Hall-MHD equations. First, we prove the global existence of strong solutions by the standard energy method under the condition that the initial data are close to the constant equilibrium state in $H^2$-framework. Second, optimal decay rates of strong solutions in $L^2$-norm are obtained if the initial data belong to $L^1$ additionally. Finally, we apply Fourier splitting method by Schonbek [Arch.Rational Mech. Anal. 88 (1985)] to establish optimal decay rates for hi…
We are concerned with the 3D incompressible Hall-magnetohydro-dynamic system (Hall-MHD). Our first aim is to provide the reader with an elementary proof of a global well-posedness result for small data with critical Sobolev regularity, in the spirit of Fujita-Kato's theorem [10] for the Navier-Stokes equations. Next, we investigate the long-time asymptotics of global solutions of the Hall-MHD system that are in the Fujita-Kato regularity class. A weak-strong uniqueness statement is also proven. Finally, we consider the so-called 2 1/2 D flows for the Hall-MHD system, and prove the global exist…
In this paper, we address the space-time decay properties for strong solutions to the incompressible viscous resistive Hall-MHD equations. We obtained the same space-time decay rates as those of the heat equation. Based on the temporal decay results in \cite{cs}, we find that one can obtain weighted estimates of the magnetic field $B$ by direct weighted energy estimate, and then by regarding the magnetic convection term as a forcing term in the velocity equations, we can obtain the weighted estimates for the vorticity, which yields the corresponding estimates for the velocity field. The higher…
In this paper we show that the incompressible Hall-MHD system without resistivity is not globally in time well-posed in any Sobolev space $H^{m}(\mathbb{R}^3)$ for any $m>\frac{7}{2}$. Namely, either the system is locally ill-posed in $H^{m}(\mathbb{R}^3)$, or it is locally well-posed, but there exists an initial data in $H^{m}(\mathbb{R}^3)$, for which the $H^{m}(\mathbb{R}^3)$ norm of solution blows-up in finite time if $m>7/2$. In the latter case we choose an axisymmetric initial data $u_0(x)=u_{0r}(r,z)e_r+ b_{0z}(r,z)e_z$ and $B_0(x)=b_{0θ}(r,z)e_θ$, and reduce the system to the axisymmet…
Whether or not the solution to 2D resistive MHD equations is globally smooth remains open. This paper establishes the global regularity of solutions to the 2D almost resistive MHD equations, which require the dissipative operators $\mathcal{L}$ weaker than any power of the fractional Laplacian. The result is an improvement of the one of Fan et al. (Global Cauchy problem of 2D generalized MHD equations, Monatsh. Math., 175 (2014), pp. 127-131) which ask for $α>0, β=1$.
In this paper, we establish the global existence to the three-dimensional incompressible Hall-MHD equations for a class of large initial data, whose $L^{\infty}$ norms can be arbitrarily large. In addition , we give an example to show that such a large initial value does exist. Our idea is splitting the generalized heat equations from Hall-MHD system to generate a small quantity for large time $t$.
In this paper, we study the wellposedeness of the Hall-magnetohydrodynamic system augmented by the effect of electron inertia. Our main result consists of generalising the wellposedness one in \cite{Zhao} from the Sobolev context to the general Besov spaces and Kato-Herz space, then we show that we can reduce the requared regularity of the magnetic field in the first result modulo an additional condition on the maximal time of existence. Finally, we show that the $\widehat{L}^p$ (and eventually the $L^p$) norm of the solution $(u,B,\nabla \times B)$ associated to an initial data in $ \widehat{…
We prove several Liouville type results for the stationary Hall-MHD and MHD equations. In particular, we show that the velocity and magnetic field, belonging to some Lorentz spaces, must be zero.
In this paper we show that the solutions to the incompressible Hall-MHD system with fractional magnetic diffusion depend continuously on the initial data in $H^s(\mathbb{R}^d)$, $s>1+\frac{d}{2}$.
A particular type of dyadic model for the magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) with forward energy cascade is studied. The model includes intermittency dimension $δ$ in the nonlinear scales. It is shown that when $δ$ is small, positive solution with large initial data for either the dyadic MHD model or the dyadic Hall MHD develops blow-up in finite time.
This paper studies the regularity problem for the 3D incompress- ible resistive viscous Hall-magneto-hydrodynamic (Hall-MHD) system. The Kolmogorov 41 phenomenological theory of turbulence predicts that there exists a critical wavenumber above which the high frequency part is dominated by the dissipation term in the fluid equation. Inspired by this idea, we apply an approach of splitting the wavenumber combined with an estimate of the energy flux to obtain a new regularity criterion. The regularity condition presented here is weaker than conditions in the existing criteria (Prodi-Serrin type c…
In this paper, we deal with the $2\frac{1}{2}$ dimensional Hall MHD by taking the velocity field $u$ and the magnetic field $B$ of the form $u(t,x,y)=\left(\nabla^{\perp}ϕ(t,x,y), W(t,x,y)\right)$ and $B(t,x,y)=\left(\nabla^{\perp}ψ(t,x,y), Z(t,x,y)\right)$. We begin with the Hall equations (without the effect of the fluid part). We first show the long time behavior of weak solutions and weak-strong uniqueness. We then proceed to prove the existence of unique strong solutions locally in time and to derive a blow-up criterion. We also demonstrate that the strong solution exists globally in time…
This paper examines the global (in time) regularity of classical solutions to the 2D incompressible magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) equations with only magnetic diffusion. Here the magnetic diffusion is given by the fractional Laplacian operator $(-Δ)^β$. We establish the global regularity for the case when $β>1$. This result significantly improves previous work which requires $β>\frac32$ and brings us closer to the resolution of the well-known global regularity problem on the 2D MHD equations with standard Laplacian magnetic diffusion, namely the case when $β=1$.
In this paper, we are concerned with the energy and magnetic helicity conservation of weak solutions for both the electron and Hall magnetohydrodynamic equations. Various sufficient criteria to ensure the energy and magnetic helicity conservation in Onsager's critical spaces $\underline{B}^α_{p,VMO}$ and $B^α_{p,c(\mathbb{N})}$ in these systems are established. Moreover, for the E-MHD equations, we observe that the conservation criteria of energy and magnetic helicity to the E-MHD equations correspond to the helicity and energy to the ideal incompressible Euler equations, respectively.
In this paper, we are concerned with the two-dimensional (2D) incompressible magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) equations with velocity dissipation given by $(-Δ)^α$ and magnetic diffusion given by reducing about logarithmic diffusion from standard Laplacian diffusion. More precisely, we establish the global regularity of solutions to the system as long as the power $α$ is a positive constant. In addition, we prove several global \emph{a priori} bounds for the case $α=0$. In particular, our results significantly improve previous works and take us one step closer to a complete resolution of the global r…
In this paper, we establish the global existence to the three-dimensional incompressible Hall-MHD equations for a class of large initial data, whose $L^{\infty}$ norms can be arbitrarily large.
In this paper, we establish an optimal blow-up criterion for classical solutions to the incompressible resistive Hall-magnetohydrodynamic equations. We also prove two global-in-time existence results of the classical solutions for small initial data, the smallness conditions of which are given by the suitable Sobolev and the Besov norms respectively. Although the Sobolev space version is already an improvement of the corrresponding result in \cite{Chae-Degond-Liu}, the optimality in terms of the scaling property is achieved via the Besov space estimate. The special property of the energy estim…
