我们获得了频域定理的一个版本(关于某些算子不等式可解性的定理),该定理允许为半线性抛物型方程构造二次李雅普诺夫泛函。我们证明了由C. Foias、R.

We obtain a version of the Frequency Theorem (a theorem on solvability of certain operator inequalities), which allows to construct quadratic Lyapunov functionals for semilinear parabolic equations. We show that the well-known Spectral Gap Condition, which was used in the theory of inertial manifolds by C. Foias, R. Temam and G. R. Sell, is a particular case of some frequency inequality, which arises within the Frequency Theorem. In particular, this allows to construct inertial manifolds for semilinear parabolic equations (including also some non-autonomous problems) in the context of a more general geometric theory developed in our adjacent works. This theory is based on quadratic Lyapunov functionals and generalizes the frequency-domain approach used by R. A. Smith. We also discuss the optimality of frequency inequalities and its relationship with known old and recent results in the field.
The paper gives a comprehensive study of Inertial Manifolds for hyperbolic relaxations of an abstract semilinear parabolic equation in a Hilbert space. A new scheme of constructing Inertial Manifolds for such type of problems is suggested and optimal spectral gap conditions which guarantee their existence are established. Moreover, the dependence of the constructed manifolds on the relaxation parameter in the case of the parabolic singular limit is also studied.
We construct an example of a one-dimensional parabolic integro-differential equation with nonlocal diffusion which does not have asymptotically finite-dimensional dynamics in the corresponding state space. This example is more natural in the class of evolutionary equations of parabolic type than those known earlier.
The paper is devoted to a comprehensive study of smoothness of inertial manifolds for abstract semilinear parabolic problems. It is well known that in general we cannot expect more than $C^{1,\varepsilon}$-regularity for such manifolds (for some positive, but small $\varepsilon$). Nevertheless, as shown in the paper, under the natural assumptions, the obstacles to the existence of a $C^n$-smooth inertial manifold (where $n\in\mathbb N$ is any given number) can be removed by increasing the dimension and by modifying properly the nonlinearity outside of the global attractor (or even outside the …
We propose a new notion of Partial Inertial Manifold to study the long-time asymptotic behavior of dissipative differential equations. As shown on an example, such manifolds may exist in the cases when the classical Inertial manifold does not exist (or not known to exist).
A construction of a robust family of compact inertial manifolds is presented. The result aims to complete an analysis of certain types of attracting sets for a class of dissipative infinite dimensional dynamical systems. Application to a hyperbolically relaxed Chaffee-Infante reaction diffusion equation is also discussed.
By the Lyapunov-Perron method,we prove the existence of random inertial manifolds for a class of equations driven simultaneously by non-autonomous deterministic and stochastic forcing. These invariant manifolds contain tempered pullback random attractors if such attractors exist. We also prove pathwise periodicity and almost periodicity of inertial manifolds when non-autonomous deterministic forcing is periodic and almost periodic in time, respectively.
In this article, we devote to the existence of an $N$-dimensional inertial manifold for the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in $\mathbb{T}^{d}$ ($d=2,3$). Our results can be summarized as two aspects: Firstly, we construct an $N$-dimensional inertial manifold for the Navier-Stokes equations in $\mathbb{T}^{2}$; Secondly, we extend slightly the spatial averaging method to the abstract case: $\partial_{t}u+A^{1+α}u+A^αF(u)=f$ (here $0<α<1$, $A>0$ is a self-adjoint operator with compact inverse and $F$ is Lipschitz from a Hilbert space $\mathbb{H}$ to $\mathbb{H}$), and then verify the exi…
In this paper we obtain estimates on the distance of inertial manifolds for dynamical systems generated by evolutionary parabolic type equations. We consider the situation where the systems are defined in different phase spaces and we estimate the distance in terms of the distance of the resolvent operators of the corresponding elliptic operators and the distance of the nonlinearities of the equations.
We study asymptotically compact nonautonomous dynamical systems given by abstract cocycles in Banach spaces. Our main assumptions are given by a squeezing property in a quadratic cone field (given by a family of indefinite quadratic Lyapunov-like functionals) and asymptotic compactness. Under such conditions it is possible to reconstruct foliations as in the theory of normally hyperbolic manifolds. Our approach allows to unify many "practical" theories of local and nonlocal invariant manifolds, such as stable/unstable/center manifolds and inertial manifolds, and, moreover, it often leads to op…
We consider inertial manifolds and their approximation for a class of partial differential equations with a nonlocal Laplacian operator $-(-Δ)^{\fracα{2}}$, with $0<α<2$. The nonlocal or fractional Laplacian operator represents an anomalous diffusion effect. We first establish the existence of an inertial manifold and highlight the influence of the parameter $α$. Then we approximate the inertial manifold when a small normal diffusion $\varepsilon Δ$ (with $\varepsilon \in (0, 1)$) enters the system, and obtain the estimate for the Hausdorff semi-distance between the inertial manifolds with and…
The existence of an inertial manifold for the modified Leray-$α$ model with periodic boundary conditions in three-dimensional space is proved by using the so-called spatial averaging principle. Moreover, an adaptation of the Perron method for constructing inertial manifolds in the particular case of zero spatial averaging is suggested.
We study the effect of domain perturbation on invariant manifolds for semilinear parabolic equations subject to Dirichlet boundary condition. Under Mosco convergence assumption on the domains, we prove the upper and lower semicontinuity of both the local unstable invariant manifold and the local stable invariant manifold near a hyperbolic equilibrium. The continuity results are obtained by keeping track of the construction of invariant manifolds in P. W. Bates and C. K. R. T. Jones [Dynam. Report. Ser. Dynam. Systems Appl. Vol. 2, 1--38, 1989].
The existence of an inertial manifold for the 3D Cahn-Hilliard equation with periodic boundary conditions is verified using the proper extension of the so-called spatial averaging principle introduced by G. Sell and J. Mallet-Paret. Moreover, the extra regularity of this manifold is also obtained.
In this paper we study a family of semilinear reaction-diffusion equations on thin spatial domains, lying close to a lower dimensional submanifold $M$. As the thickness tends to zero, the domains collapse onto (a subset of) $M$. As it was proved in a previous paper (M. Prizzi, M. Rinaldi and K. P. Rybakowski, Curved thin domains and parabolic equations, Stud. Math. 151), the above family has a limit equation, which is an abstract semilinear parabolic equation defined on a certain abstract limit phase space. One of the objectives of this paper is to give more manageable characterizations of the…
This is the second part of our study of the Inertial Manifolds for 1D systems of reaction-diffusion-advection equations initiated in \cite{KZI} and it is devoted to the case of periodic boundary conditions. It is shown that, in contrast to the case of Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions, considered in the first part, Inertial Manifolds may not exist in the case of systems endowed by periodic boundary conditions. However, as also shown, inertial manifolds still exist in the case of scalar reaction-diffusion-advection equations. Thus, the existence or non-existence of inertial manifolds for…
We show the existence of an inertial manifold (i.e. a globally invariant, exponentially attracting, finite-dimensional manifold) for the approximate deconvolution model of the 2D mean Boussinesq equations. This model is obtained by means of the Van Cittern approximate deconvolution operators, which is applied to the 2D filtered Boussinesq equations.
By applying Rohlin's result on the classification of homomorphisms of Lebesgue space, the random inertial manifold of a stochastic damped nonlinear wave equations with singular perturbation is proved to be approximated almost surely by that of a stochastic nonlinear heat equation which is driven by a new Wiener process depending on the singular perturbation parameter. This approximation can be seen as the Smolukowski--Kramers approximation as time goes to infinity. However, as time goes infinity, the approximation changes with the small parameter, which is different from the approximation on a…
Inertial manifold theory, saddle point property and exponential dichotomy have been treated as different topics in the literature with different proofs. As a common feature, they all have the purpose of `splitting' the space to understand the dynamics. We present a unified proof for the inertial manifold theorem, which as a local consequence yields the saddle-point property with a fine structure of invariant manifolds and the roughness of exponential dichotomy. In particular, we use these tools in order to establish the hyperbolicity of certain global solutions for non-autonomous parabolic par…
In this paper we obtain $C^{1,θ}$-estimates on the distance of inertial manifolds for dynamical systems generated by evolutionary parabolic type equations. We consider the situation where the systems are defined in different phase spaces and we estimate the distance in terms of the distance of the resolvent operators of the corresponding elliptic operators and the distance of the nonlinearities of the equations.
The paper gives sharp spectral gap conditions for existence of inertial manifolds for abstract semilinear parabolic equations with non-self-adjoint leading part. Main attention is paid to the case where this leading part have Jordan cells which appear after applying the so-called Kwak transform to various important equations such as 2D Navier-Stokes equations, reaction-diffusion-advection systems, etc. The different forms of Kwak transforms and relations between them are also discussed.
The purpose of this paper is twofold. First we study a class of Banach manifolds which are not differentiable in traditional sense but they are quasi-differentiable in the sense that a such Banach manifold has an embedded submanifold such that all points in that submanifold are differentiable and tangent spaces at those points can be defined. It follows that differential calculus can be performed in that submanifold and, consequently, differential equations in a such Banach manifold can be considered. Next we study the structure of phase diagram near center manifold of a parabolic differential…
This is the first part of our study of inertial manifolds for the system of 1D reaction-diffusion-advection equations which is devoted to the case of Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions. Although this problem does not initially possess the spectral gap property, it is shown that this property is satisfied after the proper non-local change of the dependent variable. The case of periodic boundary conditions where the situation is principally different and the inertial manifold may not exist is considered in the second part of our study.
We give a short, simple proof of maximal regularity for linear parabolic evolution equations on manifolds with cylindrical ends by making use of pseudodifferential parametrices and the concept of R-boundedness for the resolvent.
We prove the existence of an Inertial Manifold for 3D complex Ginzburg-Landau equation with periodic boundary conditions as well as for more general cross-diffusion system assuming that the dispersive exponent is not vanishing. The result is obtained under the assumption that the parameters of the equation is chosen in such a way that the finite-time blow up of smooth solutions does not take place. For the proof of this result we utilize the recently suggested method of spatio-temporal averaging.
We prove short time existence, uniqueness and continuous dependence on the initial data of smooth solutions of quasilinear locally parabolic equations of arbitrary even order on closed manifolds.
The author extends previous results to general classes of equations under weaker assumptions obtained in 2016 by Bao, Dong and Jiao concerning the study of the regularity of solutions for the first initial-boundary value problem for parabolic Hessian equations on Riemannian manifolds.
We are concerned with nonexistence results of nonnegative weak solutions for a class of quasilinear parabolic problems with a potential on complete noncompact Riemannian manifolds. In particular, we highlight the interplay between the geometry of the underlying manifold, the power nonlinearity and the behavior of the potential at infinity.
We are concerned with global existence for semilinear parabolic equations on Riemannian manifolds with negative sectional curvatures. A particular attention is paid to the class of initial conditions which ensure existence of global solutions. Indeed, we show that such a class is crucially related to the curvature bounds.
In this article we establish a local parabolic almost monotonicity formula for two phase free boundary problems on Riemannian manifolds, which is an extension of a work of Edquist-Petrosyan.
We consider quasilinear parabolic evolution equations in the situation where the set of equilibria forms a finite-dimensional C^1-manifold which is normally hyperbolic. The existence of foliations of the stable and unstable manifolds is shown assuming merely C^1-regularity of the underlying equation.
We prove monotonicity of a parabolic frequency on manifolds. This is a parabolic analog of Almgren's frequency function. Remarkably we get monotonicity on all manifolds and no curvature assumption is needed. When the manifold is Euclidean space and the drift operator is the Ornstein-Uhlenbeck operator this can been seen to imply Poon's frequency monotonicity for the ordinary heat equation. Monotonicity of frequency is a parabolic analog of the 19th century Hadamard three circles theorem about log convexity of holomorphic functions on $\CC$. From the monotonicity, we get parabolic unique contin…
In this short note we extend Chow and Lu's advanced maximum principles for parabolic systems on closed manifolds to the case of compact manifolds with boundary, which also generalizes a Hopf type theorem of Pulemotov.
The main aim of this article is to establish an $L_p$-theory for elliptic operators on manifolds with singularities. The particular class of differential operators discussed herein may exhibit degenerate or singular behavior near the singular ends of the manifolds. Such a theory is of importance for the study of elliptic and parabolic equations on non-compact, or even incomplete manifolds, with or without boundary.
Motivated by the study of conditional stability of traveling waves, we give an elementary $H^2$ center stable manifold construction for quasilinear parabolic PDE, sidestepping apparently delicate regularity issues by the combination of a carefully chosen implicit fixed-point scheme and "damping-type" $H^s$ energy estimates of a type familiar from the study of hyperbolic--parabolic and relaxation systems. An important feature of these methods is that they generalize to situations such as the hyperbolic--parabolic or relaxation case for which parabolic-type smoothing estimates are unavailable. A…
This paper develops validated computational methods for studying infinite dimensional stable manifolds at equilibrium solutions of parabolic PDEs, synthesizing disparate errors resulting from numerical approximation. To construct our approximation, we decompose the stable manifold into three components: a finite dimensional slow component, a fast-but-finite dimensional component, and a strongly contracting infinite dimensional "tail". We employ the parameterization method in a finite dimensional projection to approximate the slow-stable manifold, as well as the attached finite dimensional inva…
In this paper, we study fully nonlinear second-order elliptic and parabolic equations with Neumann boundary conditions on compact Riemannian manifolds with smooth boundary. We derive oscillation bounds for admissible solutions with Neumann boundary condition $u_ν= ϕ(x)$ assuming the existence of suitable $\mathcal{C}$-subsolutions. We use a parabolic approach to derive a solution of a $k$-Hessian equation with Neumann boundary condition $u_ν= ϕ(x)$ under suitable assumptions.
In this article, we prove a sharp estimate for the solutions to parabolic equations on manifolds. Precisely, using symmetrization techniques and isoperimetric inequalities on Riemannian manifold, we obtain a Bandle's comparison on complete noncompact manifolds with nonnegative Ricci curvature and compact manifolds with positive Ricci curvature respectively. Our results generalize Bandle's result [6] to Riemannian setting, and Talenti's comparison for elliptic equation on manifolds by Colladay-Langford-McDonald [12] and Chen-Li [9] to parabolic equations.
In this paper, we are concerned with the first initial boundary value problem for a class of fully nonlinear parabolic equations on Riemannian manifolds. As usual, the establishment of the a priori C^2 estimates is our main part. Based on these estimates, the existence of classical solutions is proved under conditions which are nearly optimal.
The paper gives a comprehensive study of inertial manifolds for semilinear parabolic equations and their smoothness using the spatial averaging method suggested by G. Sell and J. Mallet-Paret. We present a universal approach which covers the most part of known results obtained via this method as well as gives a number of new ones. Among our applications are reaction-diffusion equations, various types of generalized Cahn-Hilliard equations, including fractional and 6th order Cahn-Hilliard equations and several classes of modified Navier-Stokes equations including the Leray-$α$ regularization, h…
We prove the long-time existence and convergence of solutions to a general class of parabolic equations, not necessarily concave in the Hessian of the unknown function, on a compact Hermitian manifold. The limiting function is identified as the solution of an elliptic complex Monge-Ampère equation.
In this work we establish new equivalences for the concept of $p$-parabolic Riemannian manifolds. We define a concept of comparison principle for elliptic PDE's on exterior domains of a complete Riemannian manifold $M$ and prove that $M$ is $p$-parabolic if and only if this comparison principle holds for the $p$-Laplace equation. We show also that the $p$-parabolicity of $M$ implies the validity of this principle for more general elliptic PDS's and, in some cases, these results can be extended for non $p$-parabolic manifolds or unbounded solutions, provided that some growth of these solutions …
In this paper, we establish the second order estimates of solutions to the first initial-boundary value problem for general Hessian type fully nonlinear parabolic equations on Riemannian manifolds. The techniques used in this article can work for a wide range of fully nonlinear PDEs under very general conditions.
We prove the long time existence and uniqueness of solutions to the parabolic Monge-Ampère equation on compact almost Hermitian manifolds. We also show that the normalization of solution converges to a smooth function in $C^{\infty}$ topology as $t\rightarrow\infty$. Up to scaling, the limit function is a solution of the Monge-Ampère equation. This gives a parabolic proof of existence of solutions to the Monge-Ampère equation on almost Hermitian manifolds.
We present some new ideas to derive {\em a priori} second order estiamtes for a wide class of fully nonlinear parabolic equations. Our methods, which produce new existence results for the initial-boundary value problems in $\bfR^n$, are powerful enough to work in general Riemannian manifolds.
These notes are devoted to the problem of finite-dimensional reduction for parabolic PDEs. We give a detailed exposition of the classical theory of inertial manifolds as well as various attempts to generalize it based on the so-called Mané projection theorems. The recent counterexamples which show that the underlying dynamics may be in a sense infinite-dimensional if the spectral gap condition is violated as well as the discussion on the most important open problems are also included.
In this work we consider viscosity solutions to second order parabolic PDEs $u_{t}+F(t,x,u,du,d^{2}u)=0$ defined on compact Riemannian manifolds with boundary conditions. We prove comparison, uniqueness and existence results for the solutions. Under the assumption that the manifold $M$ has nonnegative sectional curvature, we get the finest results. If one additionally requires $F$ to depend on $d^{2}u$ in a uniformly continuous manner, the assumptions on curvature can be thrown away.
This work is devoted to the study of parabolic frequency for solutions of the heat equation on Riemannian manifolds. We show that the parabolic frequency functional is almost increasing on compact manifolds with nonnegative sectional curvature, which generalizes a monotonicity result proved by C. Poon and by L. Ni. The proof is based on a generalization of R. Hamilton's matrix Harnack inequality for small time. As applications, we obtain a unique continuation result. Monotonicity of a new quantity under two-dimensional Ricci flow, closely related to the parabolic frequency functional, is deriv…
A notion of parabolic C-subsolutions is introduced for parabolic equations, extending the theory of C-subsolutions recently developed by B. Guan and more specifically G. Székelyhidi for elliptic equations. The resulting parabolic theory provides a convenient unified approach for the study of many geometric flows.
We consider a class of fully non-linear parabolic equations on compact Hermitian manifolds involving symmetric functions of partial Laplacians. Under fairly general assumptions, we show the long time existence and convergence of solutions. We also derive a Harnack inequality for the linearized equation which is used in the proof of convergence.
We study the long-time existence and convergence of general parabolic complex Monge-Ampere type equations whose second order operator is not necessarily convex or concave in the Hessian matrix of the unknown solution.
