We describe spectra of associative (not necessarily unital and not necessarily countable-dimensional) locally matrix algebras. We determine all possible spectra of locally matrix algebras and give a new proof of Dixmier-Baranov Theorem. As an application of our description of spectra we determine embeddings of locally matrix algebras.
We investigate a new class of Lie algebras, which are tame locally extended affine Lie algebras of nullity 1. It is an infinite-rank analog of affine Lie algebras, and their centerless cores are a local version of loop algebras. Such algebras are called locally affine Lie algebras and locally loop algebras. We classify both of them.
We describe Morita equivalence of unital locally matrix algebras in terms of their Steinitz parametrization. Two countable dimensional unital locally matrix algebras are Morita equivalent if and only if their Steinitz numbers are rationally connected. For an arbitrary uncountable dimension $α$ and an arbitrary not locally finite Steinitz number $s$ there exist unital locally matrix algebras $A$, $B$ such that $\dim_{F}A=\dim_{F}B=α$, $\mathbf{st}(A)=\mathbf{st}(B)=s$, however, the algebras $A$, $B$ are not Morita equivalent.
We introduce an abstract definition of a Hamming space that generalizes standard Hamming spaces $( \mathbb{Z}/ 2 \mathbb{Z})^n $. We classify countable locally standard Hamming spaces and show that each of them can be realized as the Boolean algebra of idempotents of a Cartan subalgebra of a locally matrix algebra.
A group graded $K$-algebra $A=\bigoplus\limits_{g\in G} A_g$ is called "locally finite" if $\dim_K A_g < \infty$ for every $g\in G$. We characterise the weighted graphs $(E,w)$ for which the weighted Leavitt path algebra $L_K(E,w)$ is locally finite with respect to its standard grading. We also prove that the locally finite weighted Leavitt path algebras are precisely the Noetherian ones and that $L_K(E,w)$ is locally finite iff $(E,w)$ is finite and the Gelfand-Kirillov dimension of $L_K(E,w)$ equals $0$ or $1$. Further it is shown that a locally finite weighted Leavitt path algebra is isomor…
We construct a unital locally matrix algebra of uncountable dimension that (1) does not admit a primary decomposition, (2) has an infinite locally finite Steinitz number. It gives negative answers to questions from \cite{BezOl} and \cite{Kurochkin}. We also show that for an arbitrary infinite Steinitz number $s$ there exists a unital locally matrix algebra $A$ having the Steinitz number $s$ and not isomorphic to a tensor product of finite dimensional matrix algebras.
In the present paper we study local and 2-local derivations of locally finite split simple Lie algebras. Namely, we show that every local and 2-local derivation on such Lie algebra is a derivation.
We parameterize countable locally standard measure algebras by pairs of a Steinitz number and a real number greater or equal to 1. This is an analog of the theorems of J.Dixmier and A.A.Baranov.
An $F$-algebra $A$ with unit $1$ is said to be a locally matrix algebra if an arbitrary finite collection of elements $a_1,$ $\ldots,$ $a_s $ from $ A$ lies in a subalgebra $B$ with $1$ of the algebra $A$, that is isomorphic to a matrix algebra $M_n(F),$ $n\geq 1.$ To an arbitrary unital locally matrix algebra $A$ we assign a Steinitz number $\mathbf{n}(A)$ and study a relationship between $\mathbf{n}(A)$ and $A$.
We develop a theory of \emph{locally Frobenius algebras} which are colimits of certain directed systems of Frobenius algebras. A major goal is to obtain analogues of the work of Moore \& Peterson and Margolis on \emph{nearly Frobenius algebras} and \emph{$P$-algebras} which was applied to graded Hopf algebras such as the Steenrod algebra for a prime. Such locally Frobenius algebras are coherent and in studying their modules we are naturally led to focus on coherent and finite dimensional modules. Indeed, the category of coherent modules over locally Frobenius algebra $A$ is abelian with enough…
It is well-known that all saturated formations of finite soluble groups are locally defined and, except for the trivial formation, have many different local definitions. I show that for Lie and Leibniz algebras over a field of characteristic 0, the formations of all nilpotent algebras and of all soluble algebras are the only locally defined formations and that the latter has many local definitions. Over a field of non-zero characteristic, a saturated formation of soluble Lie algebras has at most one local definition but a locally defined saturated formation of soluble Leibniz algebras other th…
In this paper we study the existence of free non-abelian subgroups in non-central permutable subgroups of general skew linear groups and locally finite group algebras.
Let $A$ be a unital locally matrix algebra over a field $\mathbb{F}$ of characteristic different from $2.$ We find necessary and sufficient condition for the Lie algebra $A\diagup\mathbb{F}\cdot 1$ to be simple and for the Lie algebra of derivations $\text{Der}(A)$ to be topologically simple. The condition depends on the Steinitz number of $A$ only.
We prove that a countable dimensional associative algebra (resp. a countable semigroup) of locally subexponential growth is $M_\infty$-embeddable as a left ideal in a finitely generated algebra (resp. semigroup) of subexponential growth. Moreover, we provide bounds for the growth of the finitely generated algebra (resp. semigroup). The proof is based on a new construction of matrix wreath product of algebras.
We prove two structure theorems for simple, locally finite dimensional Lie algebras over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p$ which give sufficient conditions for the algebras to be of the form $[R^{(-)}, R^{(-)}] / (Z(R) \cap [R^{(-)}, R^{(-)}])$ or $[K(R, *), K(R, *)]$ for a simple, locally finite dimensional associative algebra $R$ with involution $*$. The first proves that a condition we introduce, known as locally nondegenerate, along with the existence of an ad-nilpotent element suffice. The second proves that a uniformly ad-integrable Lie algebra is of this type if the ch…
The paper begins with short proofs of classical theorems by Frobenius and (resp.) Zorn on associative and (resp.) alternative real division algebras. These theorems characterize the first three (resp. four) Cayley-Dickson algebras. Then we introduce and study the class of real unital nonassociative algebras in which the subalgebra generated by any nonscalar element is isomorphic to C. We call them locally complex algebras. In particular, we describe all such algebras that have dimension at most 4. Our main motivation, however, for introducing locally complex algebras is that this concept makes…
We describe derivations and automorphisms of infinite tensor products of matrix algebras. Using this description we show that for a countable--dimensional locally matrix algebra $A$ over a field $\mathbb{F}$ the dimension of the Lie algebra of outer derivations of $A$ and the order of the group of outer automorphisms of $A$ are both equal to $|\mathbb{F}|^{\aleph_0},$ where $|\mathbb{F}|$ is the cardinality of the field $\mathbb{F}.$
This paper deals with the variety of commutative nonassociative algebras satisfying the identity $L_x^3+ γL_{x^3} = 0$, $γ\in K$. Correa et al proved that if $γ= 0,1$ then any such finitely generated algebra is nilpotent. Here we generalize this result by proving that if $γ\neq -1$, then any such algebra is locally nilpotent. Our results require characteristic $\neq 2,3$.
In this paper I consider locally finite Lie algebras of characteristic zero satisfying the condition that for every finite number of elements $x_{1}, x_{2},..., x_{k}$ of such an algebra $L$ there is finite-dimensional subalgebra $A$ which contains these elements and $L(adA)^n\subset A$ for some integer $n$. For such algebras I prove several structure theorems that can be regarded as generalizations of the classical structure theorems of the finite-dimensional Lie algebras theory.
Let $K$ be an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero and $A$ an integral $K$-domain. The Lie algebra $Der_{K}(A)$ of all $K$-derivations of $A$ contains the set $LND(A)$ of all locally nilpotent derivations. The structure of $LND(A)$ is of great interest, and the question about properties of Lie algebras contained in $LND(A)$ is still open. An answer to it in the finite dimensional case is given. It is proved that any finite dimensional (over $K$) subalgebra of $Der_{K}(A)$ consisting of locally nilpotent derivations is nilpotent. In the case $A=K[x, y],$ it is also proved that any …
We obtain a complete structural characterization of Cohn-Leavitt algebras over no-exit objects as graded involutive algebras. Corollaries of this result include graph-theoretic conditions characterizing when a Leavitt path algebra is a directed union of (graded) matricial algebras over the underlying field and over the algebra of Laurent polynomials and when the monoid of isomorphism classes of finitely generated projective modules is atomic and cancellative. We introduce the non-unital generalizations of graded analogues of noetherian and artinian rings, graded locally noetherian and graded l…
The Kumjian-Pask algebra of a higher-rank graph generalises the Leavitt path algebra of a directed graph. We extend the definition of Kumjian-Pask algebra to row-finite higher-rank graphs $Λ$ with sources which satisfy a local-convexity condition. After proving versions of the graded-uniqueness theorem and the Cuntz-Krieger uniqueness theorem, we study the Kumjian-Pask algebra of rank-2 Bratteli diagrams by studying certain finite subgraphs which are locally convex. We show that the desourcification procedure of Farthing and Webster yields a row-finite higher-rank graph $\tildeΛ$ without sourc…
Locally affine Lie algebras are generalizations of affine Kac--Moody algebras with Cartan subalgebras of infinite rank whose root system is locally affine. In this note we study a class of representations of locally affine algebras generalizing integrable highest weight modules. In particular, we construct such an integrable representation for each integral weight not vanishing on the center and show that, over the complex numbers, we thus obtain unitary representations w.r.t. a unitary real form. We also use Yoshii's recent classification of locally affine root systems to derive a classificat…
In this paper, we study local systems of locally finite associative algebras over fields of characteristic p\ge0. We describe the perfect local systems and study the relation between them and their corresponding locally finite associative algebras. 1-perfect and conical local systems are also be considered and described briefly.
We propose a new simplified definition of extended affine Lie algebras (EALAs for short), and also discuss a general version of extended affine Lie algebras, called locally extended affine Lie algebras (LEALAs for short). We prove a conjecture by V. Kac for LEALAs. It turns out that the root system of a LEALA becomes a locally finite version of extended affine root systems. Finally, several examples of new EALAs and LEALAs are introduced, and we classify LEALAs of nullity 0 with connection to locally finite split simple Lie algebras.
We explore the (noncommutative) geometry of locally simple representations of the diagonal locally finite Lie algebras $\mathfrak{sl}(n^\infty)$, $\mathfrak o(n^\infty)$, and $\mathfrak{sp}(n^\infty)$. Let $\mathfrak g_\infty$ be one of these Lie algebras, and let $I \subseteq U(\mathfrak g_\infty)$ be the nonzero annihilator of a locally simple $\mathfrak g_\infty$-module. We show that for each such $I$, there is a quiver $Q$ so that locally simple $\mathfrak g_\infty$-modules with annihilator $I$ are parameterised by "points" in the "noncommutative space" corresponding to the path algebra of…
We give a vertex set description for basic, graded, regular ideals of locally-convex Kumjian-Pask Algebras. We also show that Condition (B) is preserved when taking the quotient by a basic, graded, regular ideal. We further show that when a locally-convex, row-finite k-graph satisfies Condition (B), all regular ideals are graded. We then show the same things hold for gauge-invariant, regular ideals in locally-convex k-graph C*-algebras.
We construct new examples of non-nil algebras with any number of generators, which are direct sums of two locally nilpotent subalgebras. As all previously known examples, our examples are contracted semigroup algebras and the underlying semigroups are unions of locally nilpotent subsemigroups. In our constructions we make more transparent than in the past the close relationship between the considered problem and combinatorics of words.
In commutative algebra, if $δ$ is a locally nilpotent derivation of the polynomial algebra $K[x_1,\ldots,x_d]$ over a field $K$ of characteristic 0 and $w$ is a nonzero element of the kernel of $δ$, then $Δ=wδ$ is also a locally nilpotent derivation with the same kernel as $δ$. In this paper we prove that the locally nilpotent derivation $Δ$ of the free associative algebra $K\langle X,Y\rangle$ is determined up to a multiplicative constant by its kernel. We show also that the kernel of $Δ$ is a free associative algebra and give an explicit set of its free generators.
Classical contact Lie algebras are the fundamental algebraic structures on the manifolds of contact elements of configuration spaces in classical mechanics. Xu introduced a large category of contact simple Lie algebras which are related to locally finite derivations and are in general not finitely graded. The isomorphism classes of these Lie algebras were determined in a previous paper by Xu and Su. In this paper, the derivation algebras and the 2-cohomology groups of these Lie algebras are determined, and it is obtained that the 2-cohomology groups of these Lie algebras are all trivial.
We study finite dimensional representations over some Noetherian algebras over a field of characteristic zero. More precisely, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for the category of locally finite dimensional representations to be closed under taking injective hulls and extend results known for group rings and enveloping algebras to Ore extensions, Hopf crossed products and affine Hopf algebras of low Gelfand-Kirillov dimension.
Meta-centralizers of non-locally compact group algebras are studied. Theorems about their representations with the help of families of generalized measures are proved. Isomorphisms of group algebras are investigated in relation with meta-centralizers.
We present a complete list of groups $G$ and fields $F$ for which: (i) the group of normalized units V(FG) of the group algebra FG is locally nilpotent; (ii) the group algebra FG has a finite number of nilpotent elements and V(FG) is an Engel group.
Let A be a finite dimensional algebra over an algebraically closed field K. The derived Picard group DPic(A) is the group of two-sided tilting complexes over A modulo isomorphism. We prove that DPic(A) is a locally algebraic group, and its identity component is Out^0(A). If B is a derived Morita equivalent algebra then DPic(A) is isomorphic to DPic(B) as locally algebraic groups. Our results extend, and our based on, work of Huisgen-Zimmermann, Saorin and Rouquier.
We give a construction of a family of locally finite residually finite groups with just-infinite C*-algebra. This answers a question from [2]. Additionally, we show that residually finite groups of finite exponent are never just-infinite.
Considered as commutative algebras, cluster algebras can be very unpleasant objects. However, the first author introduced a condition known as "local acyclicity" which implies that cluster algebras behave reasonably. One of the earliest and most fundamental examples of a cluster algebra is the homogenous coordinate ring of the Grassmannian. We show that the Grassmannian is locally acyclic. Morally, we are in fact showing the stronger result that all positroid varieties are locally acyclic. However, it has not been shown that all positroid varieties have cluster structure, so what we actually p…
It has been conjectured by Gene Freudenburg that for a polynomial ring, the triangular Lie algebra is the maximal Lie algebra which lies in the set of locally nilpotent derivations of the ring. Also it was conjectured that each other maximal Lie algebra which lies in the set of locally nilpotent derivations of the polynomial ring is conjugated to the triangular Lie algebra. In the present work we prove the first part of this conjecture and provide the counterexample to the second part. Also we show that the second part of the conjecture holds for the maximal Lie algebras among locally nilpoten…
Let $\mathcal A$ be a locally noetherian Grothendieck category. In this paper, we study subcategories of $\mathcal A$ using subsets of the Rosenberg spectrum $\mathfrak Spec(\mathcal A)$. Along the way, we also develop results in local algebra with respect to the category $\mathcal A$ that we believe to be of independent interest.
Let $G$ be a locally compact group. Consider the C$^*$-algebra $C_0(G)$ of continuous complex functions on $G$, tending to 0 at infinity. The product in $G$ gives rise to a coproduct $Δ_G$ on the C$^*$-algebra $C_0(G)$. A locally compact {\it quantum} group is a pair $(A,Δ)$ of a C$^*$-algebra $A$ with a coproduct $Δ$ on $A$, satisfying certain conditions. The definition guarantees that the pair $(C_0(G),Δ_G)$ is a locally compact quantum group and that conversely, every locally compact quantum group $(A,Δ)$ is of this form when the underlying C$^*$-algebra $A$ is abelian. Assume now that $G$ …
Let $\mathbb K$ be a field of characteristic zero and $A$ an integral domain over $\mathbb K.$ The Lie algebra $\Der_{\mathbb K} A$ of all $\mathbb K$-derivations of $A$ carries very important information about the algebra $A.$ This Lie algebra is embedded into the Lie algebra $R\Der_{\mathbb K} A\subseteq \Der_{\mathbb K}R$, where $R={\rm Frac}(A)$ is the fraction field of $A.$ The rank $rk_{R}L$ of a subalgebra $L$ of $R\Der_{\mathbb K} A$ is defined as dimension $\dim_R RL.$ We prove that every locally nilpotent subalgebra $L$ of $R\Der_{\mathbb K} A$ with $rk_{R}L=n$ has a series of ideals…
Motivated by recent developments of $\infty$-categorical theories related to differential graded (dg for short) Lie algebras, we develop a general framework for locally finite $\infty$-$\mathfrak{g}$-modules over a dg Lie algebra $\mathfrak{g}$. We show that the category of such locally finite $\infty$-$\mathfrak{g}$-modules is almost a model category in the sense of Vallette. As a homotopy theoretical generalization of Loday and Pirashvili's Lie algebra objects in the tensor category of linear maps, we further study weak Loday-Pirashvili modules consisting of $\infty$-morphisms from locally f…
We first prove that for a Weyl algebra over a field of positive characteristic, its norm based extension is locally Auslander regular. We then prove that given an algebra which is Zariski locally isomorphic to the Weyl algebra, its norm based extension similarly defined is locally Auslander regular if and only if it is isomorphic to the original Weyl algebra.
The main result of this work is a new proof and generalization of Lazard's comparison theorem of locally analytic group cohomology with Lie algebra cohomology for K-Lie groups, where K is a finite extension of the p-adic numbers. We show the following theorem: Let K be a finite extension of the p-adic numbers and let G be a K-Lie group. Then there exists an open subgroup U of G such that the Lazard morphism, which is induced by differentiating cochains, is an isomorphism. The proof of this theorem is independent of the proof of Lazard's comparison result. Our strategy to prove the comparison i…
