The ACC conjecture for local volumes predicts that the set of local volumes of klt singularities $x\in (X,Δ)$ satisfies the ACC if the coefficients of $Δ$ belong to a DCC set. In this paper, we prove the ACC conjecture for local volumes under the assumption that the ambient germ is analytically bounded. We introduce another related conjecture, which predicts the existence of $δ$-plt blow-ups of a klt singularity whose local volume has a positive lower bound. We show that the latter conjecture also holds when the ambient germ is analytically bounded. Moreover, we prove that both conjectures hold in dimension 2 as well as for 3-dimensional terminal singularities.
A cone singularity is a normal affine variety $X$ with an effective one-dimensional torus action with a unique fixed point $x\in X$ which lies in the closure of any orbit of the $k^*$-action. In this article, we prove a boundedness theorem for cone singularities in terms of their dimension, singularities, and isotropies. Given $d$ and $N$ two positive integers and $ε$ a positive real number, we prove that the class of $d$-dimensional $ε$-log canonical cone singularities with isotropies bounded by $N$ forms a bounded family.
In this article we study conjectures regarding normalized volume and boundedness of singularities. We focus on singularities with a torus action of complexity 1, threefold singularities, and hypersurface singularities. Given a real value v>0, we prove that the class of K-semistable threefold singularities with normalized volume at least v forms a bounded family. Analogous statements are proved in the case of n-dimensional complexity-1 and n-dimensional hypersurface singularities for arbitary n. In the general case of klt singularities, i.e. without the assumption on K-semistability, we show th…
We prove the boundedness theorem for Fano threefolds with log-terminal singularities of any fixed index. This is an improvement of our earlier result, where we required additionally that the variety is Q-factorial, with Picard number 1. The new ideas of the paper include the following. 1. Using Alexeev Minimal Model program with suitable boundary to find horizontal extremal contractions. 2. Using Kollár's effective Base Point Freeness theorem. 3. Using Kawamata's result on the length of extremal curves with suitable boundary to avoid gluing curves in some cases.
In this article, we propose a boundedness conjecture for the regional fundamental group of klt singularities. We prove that this boundedness conjecture, the Zariski closedness of the diminished base locus of $K_X$, and an upper bound for minimal log discrepancies, imply the termination of flips with scaling. We prove the boundedness conjecture in the case of toric singularities, quotient singularites, isolated $3$-fold singularities, and exceptional singularities.
In this paper, we prove the boundedness of foliated surfaces $(X,\mathscr{F})$ which are minimal partial du Val resolutions of canonical models $(X_c,\mathscr{F}_c)$ of general type. For applications, we show the boundedness of non-cusp singularities on canonical models of foliated surfaces of general type and the effective generation on the complement of the cusp singularities.
We study log canonical thresholds (also called global log canonical threshold or $α$-invariant) of $\mathbb{R}$-linear systems. We prove existence of positive lower bounds in different settings, in particular, proving a conjecture of Ambro. We then show that the Borisov-Alexeev-Borisov conjecture holds, that is, given a natural number $d$ and a positive real number $ε$, the set of Fano varieties of dimension $d$ with $ε$-log canonical singularities forms a bounded family. This implies that birational automorphism groups of rationally connected varieties are Jordan which in particular answers a…
We prove a conjecture of Batryev which states that the family of all Fano varieties with kawamata log terminal singularities and fixed index, forms a bounded family.
Given $ε>0$, we show that over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>5$, the anticanonical volume of a Fano threefold $X$ (with arbitrary singularities) whose anticanonical divisor has Seshadri constant $ε(-K_X,x)>2+ε$ at some smooth point $x\in X$ is bounded from above.
In this paper, we prove various results on boundedness and singularities of Fano fibrations and of Fano type fibrations. A Fano fibration is a projective morphism $X\to Z$ of algebraic varieties with connected fibres such that $X$ is Fano over $Z$, that is, $X$ has "good" singularities and $-K_X$ is ample over $Z$. A Fano type fibration is similarly defined where $X$ is assumed to be close to being Fano over $Z$. This class includes many central ingredients of birational geometry such as Fano varieties, Mori fibre spaces, flipping and divisorial contractions, crepant models, germs of singulari…
We prove that rationally connected Calabi--Yau 3-folds with kawamata log terminal (klt) singularities form a birationally bounded family, or more generally, rationally connected $3$-folds of $ε$-CY type form a birationally bounded family for $ε>0$. Moreover, we show that the set of $ε$-lc log Calabi--Yau pairs $(X, B)$ with coefficients of $B$ bounded away from zero is log bounded modulo flops. As a consequence, we deduce that rationally connected klt Calabi--Yau $3$-folds with mld bounded away from $1$ are bounded modulo flops.
In this paper we study boundedness properties and singularities of log Calabi-Yau fibrations, particularly those admitting Fano type structures. A log Calabi-Yau fibration roughly consists of a pair $(X,B)$ with good singularities and a projective morphism $X\to Z$ such that $K_X+B$ is numerically trivial over $Z$. This class includes many central ingredients of birational geometry such as Calabi-Yau and Fano varieties and also fibre spaces of such varieties, flipping and divisorial contractions, crepant models, germs of singularities, etc.
Let $ε, C$ be two positive real numbers, and $\mathcal C \subset \mathbb R$ be a DCC (descending chain condition) set. Let $(X, B = \sum b_j B_j)$ denote a projective surface with an $\mathbb R$-divisor. Then (1) The class $\{X\}$ of surfaces for which there exists a divisor $B$ such that $(X,B)$ is $ε$-log terminal and $-(K_X + B)$ is nef (excluding only those for which at the same time $K_X\equiv 0$, $B=0$, and $X$ has at worst Du Val singularities), is bounded. (2) The set $\{(K_X + B)^2\}$ of squares for the semi log canonical pairs $(X, B)$ with ample $K_X + B$ and $b_j \in \mathcal C$, i…
In this paper we study singularities in arbitrary characteristic. We propose Finite Determination Conjecture for Mather-Jacobian minimal log discrepancies in terms of jet schemes of a singularity. The conjecture is equivalent to the boundedness of the number of the blow-ups to obtain a prime divisor which computes the Mather-Jacobian minimal log discrepancy. We also show that this conjecture yields some basic properties of singularities; e.g. openness of Mather-Jacobian (log) canonical singularities, stability of these singularities under small deformations and lower semi-continuity of Mather-…
Let $Γ$ be a finite set, and $X\ni x$ a fixed klt germ. For any lc germ $(X\ni x,B:=\sum_{i} b_iB_i)$ such that $b_i\in Γ$, Nakamura's conjecture, which is equivalent to the ACC conjecture for minimal log discrepancies for fixed germs, predicts that there always exists a prime divisor $E$ over $X\ni x$, such that $a(E,X,B)={\rm{mld}}(X\ni x,B)$, and $a(E,X,0)$ is bounded from above. We extend Nakamura's conjecture to the setting that $X\ni x$ is not necessarily fixed and $Γ$ satisfies the DCC, and show it holds for surfaces. We also find some sufficient conditions for the boundedness of $a(E,X…
We prove the existence of $n$-complements for pairs with DCC coefficients and the ACC for minimal log discrepancies of exceptional singularities. In order to prove these results, we develop the theory of complements for real coefficients. We introduce $(n,Γ_0)$-decomposable $\mathbb{R}$-complements, and show its existence for pairs with DCC coefficients.
In this paper we show the lower bound of the set of non-zero $-K^2$ for normal surface singularities establishing that this set has no accumulation points from above. We also prove that every accumulation point from below is a rational number and every positive integer is an accumulation point. Every rational number can be an accumulation point modulo $\bZ$. We determine all accumulation points in $[0, 1]$. If we fix the value $-K^2$, then the values of $p_g$, $p_a$, mult, embdim and the numerical indices are bounded, while the numbers of the exceptional curves are not bounded.
Motivated by Shokurov's ACC Conjecture for log canonical thresholds, we propose an inductive point of view on singularities of pairs, in the case when the ambient variety is smooth. Our main result characterizes the log canonicity of a pair in dimension N+1 by the log canonicity of another pair (not effective, in general) in dimension N.
