We relate a coherent sheaf supported on a holomorphic curve with its mirror Langrangian submanifold in local mirror symmetry through a tropical curve by interpreting their central charges using the combinatorial information of the tropical curve, which proves the Gamma conjecture for local mirror symmetry in this specific case. Furthermore, we put this description in the Gross-Siebert model of local mirror symmetry and confirm that the parameters in the Gross-Siebert model are the canonical coordinates in mirror symmetry.
We introduce the notion of a tropical coamoeba which gives a combinatorial description of the Fukaya category of the mirror of a toric Fano stack. We show that the polyhedral decomposition of a real n-torus into (n + 1) permutohedra gives a tropical coamoeba for the mirror of the projective space, and prove a torus-equivariant version of homological mirror symmetry for the projective space. As a corollary, we obtain homological mirror symmetry for toric orbifolds of the projective space.
This paper explores the relationship between mirror symmetry for P^2, at the level of big quantum cohomology, and tropical geometry. The mirror of P^2 is typically taken to be ((C^*)^2,W), where W is a Landau-Ginzburg potential of the form x+y+1/xy. The complex moduli space of the mirror is the universal unfolding of W, and oscillatory integrals produce a Frobenius manifold structure on this universal unfolding. We show that W can be deformed by counting Maslov index two tropical disks, and the natural paramaters appearing in this deformation are then the flat coordinates on the moduli space. …
We introduce tropical corals, balanced trees in a half-space, and show that they correspond to holomorphic polygons capturing the product rule in Lagrangian Floer theory for the elliptic curve. We then prove a correspondence theorem equating counts of tropical corals to punctured log Gromov--Witten invariants of the Tate curve. This implies that the homogeneous coordinate ring of the mirror to the Tate curve is isomorphic to the degree-zero part of symplectic homology, confirming a prediction of homological mirror symmetry.
Mirror symmetry of Calabi-Yau manifolds can be understood via a Legendre duality between a pair of certain affine manifolds with singularities called tropical manifolds. In this article, we study conifold transitions from the point of view of Gross and Siebert. We introduce the notions of tropical nodal singularity, tropical conifolds, tropical resolutions and smoothings. We interpret known global obstructions to the complex smoothing and symplectic small resolution of compact nodal Calabi-Yaus in terms of certain tropical $2$-cycles containing the nodes in their associated tropical conifolds.…
Given a smooth projective toric variety X, we construct an A-infinity category of Lagrangians with boundary on a level set of the Landau-Ginzburg mirror of X. We prove that this category is quasi-equivalent to the DG category of line bundles on X. This establishes part of the Homological Mirror Conjecture for toric varieties.
Using tropical geometry we propose a mirror construction for monomial degenerations of Calabi-Yau varieties in toric Fano varieties. The construction reproduces the mirror constructions by Batyrev for Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces and by Batyrev and Borisov for Calabi-Yau complete intersections. We apply the construction to Pfaffian examples and recover the mirror given by Rodland for the degree 14 Calabi-Yau threefold in PP^6 defined by the Pfaffians of a general linear 7x7 skew-symmetric matrix. We provide the necessary background knowledge entering into the tropical mirror construction such as t…
We modify Gross's construction of mirror symmetry for $\mathbb{P}^2$ by introducing a descendent tropical Landau-Ginzburg potential. The period integrals of this potential compute a modification of Givental's J-function, explicitly encoding a larger sector of the big phase space. As a byproduct of this construction, new tropical methods for computing certain descendent Gromov-Witten invariants are defined.
We use tropical curves and toric degeneration techniques to construct closed embedded Lagrangian rational homology spheres in a lot of Calabi-Yau threefolds. We apply this construction to the tropical curves obtained from the 2875 lines on the quintic Calabi-Yau threefold. Each admissible tropical curve gives a Lagrangian rational homology sphere in the corresponding mirror quintic threefold and disjoint curves give pairwise homologous but non-Hamiltonian isotopic Lagrangians. We check in an example that $>300$ mutually disjoint curves (and hence Lagrangians) arise. We show that the weight of …
Applying tropical geometry a framework for mirror symmetry, including a mirror construction for Calabi-Yau varieties, was proposed by the author. We discuss the conceptual foundations of this construction based on a natural mirror map identifying deformations and divisors. We show how the construction specializes to that by Batyrev for hypersurfaces and its generalization by Batyrev and Borisov to complete intersections. Based on an explicit example we comment on the implementation in the Macaulay2 package SRdeformations.
We give a simple expression for the integral of the canonical holomorphic volume form in degenerating families of varieties constructed from wall structures and with central fiber a union of toric varieties. The cycles to integrate over are constructed from tropical 1-cycles in the intersection complex of the central fiber. One application is a proof that the mirror map for the canonical formal families of Calabi-Yau varieties constructed by Gross and the second author is trivial. We also show that these families are the completion of an analytic family, without reparametrization, and that the…
We produce for each tropical hypersurface $V(ϕ)\subset Q=\mathbb{R}^n$ a Lagrangian $L(ϕ)\subset (\mathbb{C}^*)^n$ whose moment map projection is a tropical amoeba of $V(ϕ)$. When these Lagrangians are admissible in the Fukaya-Seidel category, we show that they are unobstructed objects of the Fukaya category, and mirror to sheaves supported on complex hypersurfaces in a toric mirror.
We propose a new method to compute asymptotics of periods using tropical geometry, in which the Riemann zeta values appear naturally as error terms in tropicalization. Our method suggests how the Gamma class should arise from the Strominger-Yau-Zaslow conjecture. We use it to give a new proof of (a version of) the Gamma Conjecture for Batyrev pairs of mirror Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces.
We introduce in this paper the concept of tropical mirror hypersurfaces and we prove a complex tropical localization Theorem which is a version of Kapranov's Theorem \cite{K-00} in tropical geometry. We give a geometric and a topological equivalence between coamoebas of complex algebraic hypersurfaces defined by a maximally sparse polynomial and coamoebas of maximally sparse complex tropical hypersurfaces.
We prove a tropical mirror symmetry theorem for descendant Gromov-Witten invariants of the elliptic curve, generalizing the tropical mirror symmetry theorem for Hurwitz numbers of the elliptic curve, Theorem 2.20 in [Böhm J., Bringmann K., Buchholz A., Markwig H., J. Reine Angew. Math. 732 (2017), 211-246, arXiv:1309.5893]. For the case of the elliptic curve, the tropical version of mirror symmetry holds on a fine level and easily implies the equality of the generating series of descendant Gromov-Witten invariants of the elliptic curve to Feynman integrals. To prove tropical mirror symmetry fo…
The mirror of a toric orbifold is an affine curve called the mirror curve. In this paper, firstly, we recall the basic tools in tropical geometry and give a definition of the mirror curve. Then we calculate the tropical spine of the mirror curve for a smooth toric Calabi-Yau 3-fold near the large radius limit. Finally, we recall a special kind of real algebraic curves called the cyclic-M curve and show that under some special choices of parameters near the large radius limit, the mirror curve is a cyclic-M curve. Applying Mikhalkin's result of cyclic-M curves, we show that the mirror curve is …
We introduce algebraic structures on the polyvector fields of an algebraic torus that serve to compute multiplicities in tropical and log Gromov-Witten theory while also connecting to the mirror symmetry dual deformation theory of complex structures. Most notably these structures include a tropical quantum field theory and an $L_{\infty}$-structure. The latter is an instance of Getzler's gravity algebra, and the $l_2$-bracket is a restriction of the Schouten-Nijenhuis bracket. We explain the relationship to string topology in the appendix (thanks to Janko Latschev).
Mirror symmetry relates Gromov-Witten invariants of an elliptic curve with certain integrals over Feynman graphs. We prove a tropical generalization of mirror symmetry for elliptic curves, i.e., a statement relating certain labeled Gromov-Witten invariants of a tropical elliptic curve to more refined Feynman integrals. This result easily implies the tropical analogue of the mirror symmetry statement mentioned above and, using the necessary Correspondence Theorem, also the mirror symmetry statement itself. In this way, our tropical generalization leads to an alternative proof of mirror symmetry…
We study homological mirror symmetry for toric varieties, exploring the relationship between various Fukaya-Seidel categories which have been employed for constructing the mirror to a toric variety. In particular, we realize tropical Lagrangian sections as objects of a partially wrapped category and construct a Lagrangian correspondence mirror to the inclusion of a toric divisor. As a corollary, we prove that tropical sections generate the Fukaya-Seidel category, completing a Floer-theoretic proof of homological mirror symmetry for projective toric varieties. In the course of the proof, we dev…
From wall structures to closed mirror symmetry. The case of $K_{\mathbb{P}^2}$: Renormalized periods over the positive real locus, closed Gromov-Witten invariants from wall functions, and tropical enumeration
We study a cylindrical Lagrangian cobordism group for Lagrangian torus fibres in symplectic manifolds which are the total spaces of smooth Lagrangian torus fibrations. We use ideas from family Floer theory and tropical geometry to obtain both obstructions to and constructions of cobordisms; in particular, we give examples of symplectic tori in which the cobordism group has no non-trivial cobordism relations between pairwise distinct fibres, and ones in which the degree zero fibre cobordism group is a divisible group. The results are independent of but motivated by mirror symmetry, and a relati…
We construct from a real affine manifold with singularities (a tropical manifold) a degeneration of Calabi-Yau manifolds. This solves a fundamental problem in mirror symmetry. Furthermore, a striking feature of our approach is that it yields an explicit and canonical order-by-order description of the degeneration via families of tropical trees. This gives complete control of the B-model side of mirror symmetry in terms of tropical geometry. For example, we expect our deformation parameter is a canonical coordinate, and expect period calculations to be expressible in terms of tropical curves. W…
We present enumerative aspects of the Gross-Siebert program in this introductory survey. After sketching the program's main themes and goals, we review the basic definitions and results of logarithmic and tropical geometry. We give examples and a proof for counting algebraic curves via tropical curves. To illustrate an application of tropical geometry and the Gross-Siebert program to mirror symmetry, we discuss the mirror symmetry of the projective plane.
We present an extended worked example of the computation of the tropical superpotential considered by Carl--Pumperla--Siebert. In particular we consider an affine manifold associated to the complement of a non-singular genus one plane curve, and calculate the wall and chamber decomposition determined by the Gross--Siebert algorithm. Using the results of Carl--Pumperla--Siebert we determine the tropical superpotential, via broken line counts, in every chamber of this decomposition. The superpotential defines a Laurent polynomial in every chamber, which we demonstrate to be identical to the Laur…
We revisit the wall-crossing behaviour of solutions to the Thermodynamic Bethe Ansatz type equations arising in a class of three-dimensional field theories, expressed as sums of "instanton corrections". We explain how to attach to an instanton correction at a critical value a set of (combinatorial types of) tropical curves in R^2 of fixed degree, which determines its jump to leading order. We show that a weighted sum over all such curves is in fact a tropical count. This goes through to the q-deformed setting. Our construction can be regarded as a formal mirror symmetric statement in the frame…
We study log Calabi-Yau varieties obtained as a blow-up of a toric variety along hypersurfaces in its toric boundary. Mirrors to such varieties are constructed by Gross-Siebert from a canonical scattering diagram built by using punctured log Gromov-Witten invariants of Abramovich-Chen-Gross-Siebert. We show that there is a piecewise linear isomorphism between the canonical scattering diagram and a scattering diagram defined algortihmically, following a higher dimensional generalisation of the Kontsevich-Soibelman construction. We deduce that the punctured log Gromov-Witten invariants of the lo…
We study generating series of Gromov-Witten invariants of $E\times\mathbb{P}^1$ and their tropical counterparts. Using tropical degeneration and floor diagram techniques, we can express the generating series as sums of Feynman integrals, where each summand corresponds to a certain type of graph which we call a pearl chain. The individual summands are --- just as in the case of mirror symmetry of elliptic curves, where the generating series of Hurwitz numbers equals a sum of Feynman integrals --- complex analytic path integrals involving a product of propagators (equal to the Weierstrass-$\wp$-…
The asymptotic behaviour of solutions to the quantum differential equation of a Fano manifold F defines a characteristic class A_F of F, called the principal asymptotic class. Gamma conjecture of Vasily Golyshev and the present authors claims that the principal asymptotic class A_F equals the Gamma class G_F associated to Euler's $Γ$-function. We illustrate in the case of toric varieties, toric complete intersections and Grassmannians how this conjecture follows from mirror symmetry. We also prove that Gamma conjecture is compatible with taking hyperplane sections, and give a heuristic argumen…
This paper derives an equality between the slab functions in Gross-Siebert program and generating functions of open Gromov-Witten invariants for toric Calabi-Yau manifolds, and thereby confirms a conjecture of Gross-Siebert on symplectic enumerative meaning of slab functions. The proof is based on the open mirror theorem of Chan-Cho-Lau-Tseng \cite{CCLT13}. It shows an instance of correspondence between tropical and symplectic geometry in the open sector.
A decorated surface S is a surface with a finite set of special points on the boundary, considered modulo isotopy. Let G be a split reductive group. A pair (G, S) gives rise to a moduli space A(G, S), closely related to the space of G-local systems on S. It has a positive structure. So the set of its integral tropical points is defined. We introduce a rational positive function W on A(G, S), the potential. The condition that its tropicalisation is non-negative determines its subset. For SL(2), we recover the set of integral laminations on S. We prove that when S is a disc with n special points…
Gamma conjecture I and the underlying Conjecture $\mathcal{O}$ for Fano manifolds were proposed by Galkin, Golyshev and Iritani recently. We show that both conjectures hold for all two-dimensional Fano manifolds. We prove Conjecture $\mathcal{O}$ by deriving a generalized Perron-Frobenius theorem on eigenvalues of real matrices and a vanishing result of certain Gromov-Witten invariants for del Pezzo surfaces. We prove Gamma conjecture I by applying mirror techniques proposed by Galkin-Iritani together with the study of Gamma conjecture I for weighted projective spaces.
We use cluster structures and mirror symmetry to explicitly describe a natural class of Newton-Okounkov bodies for Grassmannians. We consider the Grassmannian $X=Gr_{n-k}(\mathbb C^n)$, as well as the mirror dual Landau-Ginzburg model $(\check{X}^\circ, W_q:\check{X}^\circ \to \mathbb C)$, where $\check{X}^\circ$ is the complement of a particular anti-canonical divisor in a Langlands dual Grassmannian $\check{X} = Gr_k((\mathbb C^n)^*)$, and the superpotential W_q has a simple expression in terms of Plücker coordinates. Grassmannians simultaneously have the structure of an $\mathcal{A}$-cluste…
The Doran-Harder-Thompson "gluing/splitting" conjecture unifies mirror symmetry conjectures for Calabi-Yau and Fano varieties, relating fibration structures on Calabi-Yau varieties to the existence of certain types of degenerations on their mirrors. This was studied for the case of Calabi-Yau complete intersections in toric varieties by Doran, Kostiuk and You for the Hori-Vafa mirror construction. In this paper we prove one direction of the conjecture using a modified version of the Gross-Siebert program. This involves a careful study of the implications within tropical geometry and applying m…
The tropical vertex is an incarnation of mirror symmetry found by Gross, Pandharipande and Siebert. It can be applied to m-Kronecker quivers K(m) (together with a result of Reineke) to compute the Euler characteristics of the moduli spaces of their (framed) representations in terms of Gromov-Witten invariants (as shown by Gross and Pandharipande). In this paper, we study a possible geometric picture behind this correspondence, in particular constructing rational tropical curves from subquivers of the universal covering quiver of K(m). Additional motivation comes from the physical interpretatio…
Recently we propose a class of infinite-dimensional integral representations of classical gl(n+1)-Whittaker functions and local Archimedean local L-factors using two-dimensional topological field theory framework. The local Archimedean Langlands duality was identified in this setting with the mirror symmetry of the underlying topological field theories. In this note we introduce elementary analogs of the Whittaker functions and the Archimedean L-factors given by U(n+1)-equivariant symplectic volumes of appropriate Kahler U(n+1)-manifolds. We demonstrate that the functions thus defined have a d…
We show that the Gromov-Witten theory of Calabi-Yau hypersurfaces matches, in genus zero and after an analytic continuation, the quantum singularity theory (FJRW theory) recently introduced by Fan, Jarvis and Ruan following ideas of Witten. Moreover, on both sides, we highlight two remarkable integral local systems arising from the common formalism of Gamma-integral structures applied to the derived category of the hypersurface {W=0} and to the category of graded matrix factorizations of W. In this setup, we prove that the analytic continuation matches Orlov equivalence between the two above c…
We introduce an integral structure in orbifold quantum cohomology associated to the K-group and the Gamma-class. In the case of compact toric orbifolds, we show that this integral structure matches with the natural integral structure for the Landau-Ginzburg model under mirror symmetry. By assuming the existence of an integral structure, we give a natural explanation for the specialization to a root of unity in Y. Ruan's crepant resolution conjecture.
A toric del Pezzo surface $X_P$ with cyclic quotient singularities determines and is determined by a Fano polygon $P$. We construct an affine manifold with singularities that partially smooths the boundary of $P$; this a tropical version of a Q-Gorenstein partial smoothing of $X_P$. We implement a mild generalization of the Gross-Siebert reconstruction algorithm - allowing singularities that are not locally rigid - and thereby construct (a formal version of) this partial smoothing directly from the affine manifold. This has implications for mirror symmetry: roughly speaking, it implements half…
Consider the Fano manifold $X$ formed by blowing up $\mathbb{P}^n$ along its linear subspace $\mathbb{P}^r$, we check the conifold conditions [3, 1] for its mirror Laurent polynomial $f$, which can imply that $X$ satisfies both Conjecture $\mathcal{O}$ and Gamma conjecture I by Galkin-Golyshev-Iritani [2].
