We present a theory of Anderson localization on a one-dimensional lattice with translation-invariant hopping. We find by analytical calculation, the localization length for arbitrary finite-range hopping in the single propagating channel regime. Then by examining the convergence of the localization length, in the limit of infinite hopping range, we revisit the problem of localization criteria in this model and investigate the conditions under which it can be violated. Our results reveal possibilities of having delocalized states by tuning the long-range hopping.
A new paradigm of Anderson localization caused by correlations in the long-range hopping along with uncorrelated on-site disorder is considered which requires a more precise formulation of the basic localization-delocalization principles. A new class of random Hamiltonians with translation-invariant hopping integrals is suggested and the localization properties of such models are established both in the coordinate and in the momentum spaces alongside with the corresponding level statistics. Duality of translation-invariant models in the momentum and coordinate space is uncovered and exploited …
The localization behavior of the one-dimensional Anderson model with correlated and uncorrelated purely off-diagonal disorder is studied. Using the transfer matrix method, we derive an analytical expression for the localization length at the band center in terms of the pair correlation function. It is proved that for long-range correlated hopping disorder, a localization-delocalization transition occurs at the critical Hurst exponent H_c= 1/2 when the variance of the logarithm of hopping "σ_{\ln(t)}" is kept fixed with the system size N. Based on numerical calculations, finite size scaling rel…
The correspondence between the real-complex transition in energy and delocalization-localization transition is well-established in a class of Aubry-Andr'e-Harper model with exponential non-Hermitian on-site potentials. In this paper, we study a generalized Aubry-Andr'e model with off-diagonal modulation and non-Hermitian on-site potential. We find that, when there exists an incommensurate off-diagonal modulation, the correspondence breaks down, although the extended phase is maintained in a wide parameter range of the strengths of the on-site potential and the off-diagonal hoppings. An additio…
Finite strips, composed of a periodic stacking of infinite quasiperiodic Fibonacci chains, have been investigated in terms of their electronic properties. The system is described by a tight binding Hamiltonian. The eigenvalue spectrum of such a multi-strand quasiperiodic network is found to be sensitive on the mutual values of the intra-strand and inter-strand tunnel hoppings, whose distribution displays a unique three-subband self-similar pattern in a parameter subspace. In addition, it is observed that special numerical correlations between the nearest and the next-nearest neighbor hopping i…
We study many-body localization (MBL) in a one-dimensional system of spinless fermions with a deterministic aperiodic potential in the presence of long-range interactions or long-range hopping. Based on perturbative arguments there is a common belief that MBL can exist only in systems with short-range interactions and short-range hopping. We analyze effects of power-law interactions and power-law hopping, separately, on a system which has all the single particle states localized in the absence of interactions. Since delocalization is driven by proliferation of resonances in the Fock space, we …
Based on the random dimer model, we study correlated disorder in a one dimensional system driven by a strong AC field. As the correlations in a random system may generate extended states and enhance transport in DC fields, we explore the role that AC fields have on these properties. We find that similar to ordered structures, AC fields renormalize the effective hopping constant to a smaller value, and thus help to localize a state. We find that AC fields control then a localization-delocalization transition in a given one dimensional systems with correlated disorder. The competition between ba…
We investigate the possibility of Many-Body Localization in translation invariant Hamiltonian systems, which was recently brought up by several authors. A key feature of Many-Body Localized disordered systems is recovered, namely the fact that resonant spots are rare and far-between. However, we point out that resonant spots are mobile, unlike in models with strong quenched disorder, and that these mobile spots constitute a possible mechanism for delocalization, albeit possibly only on very long timescales. In some models, this argument for delocalization can be made very explicit in first ord…
Motivated by the constrained many-body dynamics, the stability of the localization-delocalization properties to the inclusion of the soft constraints is addressed in random matrix models. These constraints are modeled by correlations in long-ranged hopping with Pearson correlation coefficient different from zero or unity. Counterintuitive robustness of delocalized phases, both ergodic and (multi)fractal, in these models is numerically observed and confirmed by the analytical calculations. First, matrix inversion trick is used to uncover the origin of such robustness. Next, to characterize delo…
A weakly disordered quasi-one-dimensional tight-binding hopping model with $N$ rows is considered. The probability distribution of the Landauer conductance is calculated exactly in the middle of the band, $ε=0$, and it is shown that a delocalization transition at this energy takes place if and only if $N$ is odd. This even-odd effect is explained by level repulsion of the transmission eigenvalues.
In this paper, we explore the localization transition and the scaling properties of both quasi-one-dimensional and two-dimensional quasiperiodic systems, which are constituted from coupling several Aubry-André (AA) chains along the transverse direction, in the presence of next-nearest-neighbor (NNN) hopping. The localization length, two-terminal conductance, and participation ratio are calculated within the tight-binding Hamiltonian. Our results reveal that a metal-insulator transition could be driven in these systems not only by changing the NNN hopping integral but also by the dimensionality…
We study the hopping transport of a quantum particle through randomly diluted percolation clusters in two dimensions realized both on the square and triangular lattices. We investigate the nature of localization of the particle by calculating the transmission coefficient as a function of energy (-2 < E < 2 in units of the hopping integral in the tight-binding Hamiltonian) and disorder, q (probability that a given site of the lattice is not available to the particle). Our study based on finite size scaling suggests the existence of delocalized states that depends on energy and amount of disorde…
The single-parameter scaling hypothesis predicts the absence of delocalized states for noninteracting quasiparticles in low-dimensional disordered systems. We show analytically and numerically that extended states may occur in the one- and two-dimensional Anderson model with a nonrandom hopping falling off as some power of the distance between sites. The different size scaling of the bare level spacing and the renormalized magnitude of the disorder seen by the quasiparticles finally results in the delocalization of states at one of the band edges of the quasiparticle energy spectrum. The deloc…
We analytically determine the non-Hermitian mobility edges of a one-dimensional quasiperiodic lattice model with exponential decaying hopping and complex potentials as well as its dual model, which is just a non-Hermitian generalization of the Ganeshan-Pixley-Das Sarma model with nonreciprocal nearest-neighboring hopping. The presence of non-Hermitian term destroys the self-duality symmetry and thus prevents us exploring the localization-delocalization point through looking for self-dual points. Nevertheless, by applying Avila's global theory, the Lyapunov exponent of the Ganeshan-Pixley-Das S…

We report exact multielectronic ground-states dependent on electron concentration for quantum mechanical two-dimensional disordered two-band type many body models in the presence of disordered hoppings and disordered repulsive finite Hubbard interactions, in fixed lattice topology considered provided by Bravais lattices. The obtained ground-states loose their eigenfunction character for independent electron approximation, perturbatively are not connected to the non-interacting but disordered case, and describe a localization-delocalization transition driven by the electron concentration, being…
We consider a one-dimensional quantum many-body system and investigate how the interplay between interaction and on-site disorder affects spatial localization and quantum correlations. The hopping amplitude is kept constant. To measure localization, we use the number of principal components (NPC), which quantifies the spreading of the system eigenstates over vectors of a given basis set. Quantum correlations are determined by a global entanglement measure $Q$, which quantifies the degree of entanglement of multipartite pure states. Our studies apply analogously to a one-dimensional system of i…
Conformational effect on electronic localization is critically investigated for the first time considering a double-stranded helical geometry (DSHG) subjected to an electric field. In the presence of electric field the DSHG behaves like a correlated disordered system whose site potentials are modulated in a cosine form like the well known Aubry-Andre-Harper (AAH) model. The potential distribution can be modulated further by changing the orientation of the incident field. A similar kind of cosine modulation is also introduced in the inter-strand hopping integrals of the DSHG. Suitably adjusting…
We study the (de)localization phenomena of one-component lattice fermions in spin backgrounds. The O(3) classical spin variables on sites fluctuate thermally through the ordinary nearest-neighbor coupling. Their complex two-component (CP$^1$-Schwinger boson) representation forms a composite U(1) gauge field on bond, which acts on fermions as a fluctuating hopping amplitude in a gauge invariant manner. For the case of antiferromagnetic (AF) spin coupling, the model has close relationship with the $t$-$J$ model of strongly-correlated electron systems. We measure the unfolded level spacing distri…
Many-body quantum systems typically display fast dynamics and ballistic spreading of information. Here we address the open problem of how slow the dynamics can be after a generic breaking of integrability by local interactions. We develop a method based on degenerate perturbation theory that reveals slow dynamical regimes and delocalization processes in general translation invariant models, along with accurate estimates of their delocalization time scales. Our results shed light on the fundamental questions of robustness of quantum integrable systems and the possibility of many-body localizati…
We study two coupled 3D lattices, one of them featuring uncorrelated on-site disorder and the other one being fully ordered, and analyze how the interlattice hopping affects the localization-delocalization transition of the former and how the latter responds to it. We find that moderate hopping pushes down the critical disorder strength for the disordered channel throughout the entire spectrum compared to the usual phase diagram for the 3D Anderson model. In that case, the ordered channel begins to feature an effective disorder also leading to the emergence of mobility edges but with higher as…
We study deterministic power-law quantum hopping model with an amplitude $J(r) \propto - r^{-β}$ and local Gaussian disorder in low dimensions $d=1,2$ under the condition $d < β< 3d/2$. We demonstrate unusual combination of exponentially decreasing density of the "tail states" and localization-delocalization transition (as function of disorder strength $w$) pertinent to a small (vanishing in thermodynamic limit) fraction of eigenstates. At sub-critical disorder $w < w_c$ delocalized eigenstates with energies near the bare band edge co-exist with a strongly localized eigenstates in the same ene…
We study the scaling of logarithmic negativity between adjacent subsystems in critical fermion chains with various inhomogeneous modulations through numerically calculating its recently established lower and upper bounds. For random couplings, as well as for a relevant aperiodic modulation of the couplings, which induces an aperiodic singlet state, the bounds are found to increase logarithmically with the subsystem size, and both prefactors agree with the predicted values characterizing the corresponding asymptotic singlet state. For the marginal Fibonacci modulation, the prefactors in front o…
Motivated by the recent experiments that reported signatures of many-body localization of ultracold atoms in optical lattices [M. Schreiber {\it et al.}, Science {\bf 349}, 842 (2015)], we study dynamics of highly excited states in the strongly disordered Hubbard model in one dimension. Owing to the $SU(2)$ spin symmetry, spin degrees of freedom form a delocalized thermal bath with a narrow bandwidth. The spin bath mediates slow particle transport, eventually leading to delocalization of particles. The particle hopping rate is exponentially small in $t/W$ ($t$, $W$ being hopping and disorder s…
Many-body localization in an $XY$ model with a long-range interaction is investigated. We show that in the regime of a high strength of disordering compared to the interaction an off-resonant flip-flop spin-spin interaction (hopping) generates the effective Ising interactions of spins in the third order of perturbation theory in a hopping. The combination of hopping and induced Ising interactions for the power law distance dependent hopping $V(R) \propto R^{-α}$ always leads to the localization breakdown in a thermodynamic limit of an infinite system at $α< 3d/2$ where $d$ is a system dimensio…
We numerically investigate the dynamics of entanglement in a chain of spinless fermions with nonrandom but long-range hopping and interactions, and with random on-site energies. For moderate disorder in the absence of interactions, the chain hosts delocalized states at the top of the band which undergo a delocalization-localization transition with increasing disorder. We find an interesting regime in this noninteracting disordered chain where the long-time entanglement entropy scales as $S(t) \sim \ln t$ and the saturated entanglement entropy scales with system size $L$ as $S(L,t \to {\infty})…
We investigate localization-delocalization transition in one-dimensional non-Hermitian quasiperiodic lattices with exponential short-range hopping, which possess parity-time ($\mathcal{PT}$) symmetry. The localization transition induced by the non-Hermitian quasiperiodic potential is found to occur at the $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetry-breaking point. Our results also demonstrate the existence of energy dependent mobility edges, which separate the extended states from localized states and are only associated with the real part of eigen-energies. The level statistics and Loschmidt echo dynamics are al…
We numerically investigate the link between the delocalization-localization transition and entanglement in a disordered long-range hopping model of spinless fermions by studying various static and dynamical quantities. This includes the inverse participation ratio, level-statistics, entanglement entropy and number fluctuations in the subsystem along with quench and wave-packet dynamics. Finite systems show delocalized, quasi-localized and localized phases. The delocalized phase shows strong area-law violation whereas the (quasi)localized phase adheres to (for large subsystems) the strict area …
Randomness and disorder have strong impact on transport processes in quantum systems and give rise to phenomena such as Anderson localization [1-3], many-body localization [4] or glassy dynamics [5]. Their characteristics thereby depend on the strength and type of disorder. An important class are hopping models, where particles or excitations move through a system which has randomized couplings. This includes, e.g., spin glasses [5], coupled optical waveguides [6], or NV center arrays [7]. They are also key to understand excitation transport in molecular and biological systems, such as light h…
The nearest-neighbor Aubry-André quasiperiodic localization model is generalized to include power-law translation-invariant hoppings $T_l\propto t/l^a$ or power-law Fourier coefficients $W_m \propto w/m^b$ in the quasi-periodic potential. The Aubry-André duality between $T_l$ and $W_m$ is manifest when the Hamiltonian is written in the real-space basis and in the Fourier basis on a finite ring. The perturbative analysis in the amplitude $t$ of the hoppings yields that the eigenstates remain power-law localized in real space for $a>1$ and are critical for $a_c=1$ where they follow the Strong Mu…
The phenomenon of localization is usually accompanied with the presence of quenched disorder. To what extent disorder is necessary for localization is a well-known open problem. In this paper, we prove the instability of localization in translation-invariant systems. For any translation-invariant local Hamiltonian exhibiting either Anderson or many-body localization, an arbitrarily small translation-invariant random local perturbation almost surely leads to the following manifestations of delocalization: (i) Transport: For any (inhomogeneous) initial state, the spatial distribution of energy o…
We study the effects of partial correlations in kinetic hopping terms of long-range disordered random matrix models on their localization properties. We consider a set of models interpolating between fully-localized Richardson's model and the celebrated Rosenzweig-Porter model (with implemented translation-invariant symmetry). In order to do this, we propose the energy-stratified spectral structure of the hopping term allowing one to decrease the range of correlations gradually. We show both analytically and numerically that any deviation from the completely correlated case leads to the emerge…
We present strong numerical evidence for the existence of a localization-delocalization transition in the eigenstates of the 1-D Anderson model with long-range hierarchical hopping. Hierarchical models are important because of the well-known mapping between their phases and those of models with short range hopping in higher dimensions, and also because the renormalization group can be applied exactly without the approximations that generally are required in other models. In the hierarchical Anderson model we find a finite critical disorder strength Wc where the average inverse participation ra…
Disordered quantum systems undergoing a many-body localization (MBL) transition fail to reach thermal equilibrium under their own dynamics. Distinguishing between asymptotically localized or delocalized dynamics based on numerical results is however nontrivial due to finite-size effects. Numerical linked cluster expansions (NLCE) provide a means to tackle quantum systems directly in the thermodynamic limit, but are challenging for models without translational invariance. Here, we demonstrate that NLCE provide a powerful tool to explore MBL by simulating quench dynamics in disordered spin-$1/2$…

The Aubry-André-Harper model provides a paradigmatic example of aperiodic order in a one-dimensional lattice displaying a delocalization-localization phase transition at a finite critical value $V_c$ of the quasiperiodic potential amplitude $V$. In terms of dynamical behavior of the system, the phase transition is discontinuous when one measures the quantum diffusion exponent $δ$ of wave packet spreading, with $δ=1$ in the delocalized phase $V<V_c$ (ballistic transport), $δ\simeq 1/2$ at the critical point $V=V_c$ (diffusive transport), and $δ=0$ in the localized phase $V>V_c$ (dynamical local…
We numerically analyze the energy level statistics of the Anderson model with Gaussian site disorder and constant hopping. The model is realized on different two-dimensional lattices, namely, the honeycomb, the kagomé, the square, and the triangular lattice. By calculating the well-known statistical measures viz., nearest neighbor spacing distribution, number variance, the partition number and the dc electrical conductivity from Kubo-Greenwood formula, we show that there is clearly a delocalization to localization transition with increasing disorder. Though the statistics in different lattice …
