We analytically determine the non-Hermitian mobility edges of a one-dimensional quasiperiodic lattice model with exponential decaying hopping and complex potentials as well as its dual model, which is just a non-Hermitian generalization of the Ganeshan-Pixley-Das Sarma model with nonreciprocal nearest-neighboring hopping. The presence of non-Hermitian term destroys the self-duality symmetry and thus prevents us exploring the localization-delocalization point through looking for self-dual points. Nevertheless, by applying Avila's global theory, the Lyapunov exponent of the Ganeshan-Pixley-Das Sarma model can be exactly derived, which enables us to get an analytical expression of mobility edge of the non-Hermitian dual model. Consequently, the mobility edge of the original model is obtained by using the dual transformation, which creates exact mappings between the spectra and wavefunctions of these two models.
Pair localization in one-dimensional quasicrystals with nearest-neighbor hopping is independent of whether short-range interactions are repulsive or attractive. We numerically demonstrate that this symmetry is broken when the hopping follows a power law $1/r^α$. In particular, for repulsively bound states, we find that the critical quasiperiodicity that signals the transition to localization is always bounded by the standard Aubry-André critical point, whereas attractively bound dimers get localized at larger quasiperiodic modulations when the range of the hopping increases. Extensive numerica…
In the one-dimensional quasiperiodic Aubry-André-Harper Hamiltonian with nearest-neighbor hopping, all single-particle eigenstates undergo a phase transition from ergodic to localized states at a critical disorder strength $W_c/t = 2.0$. There is no mobility edge in this system. However, in the presence of power-law hopping having the form $1/r^a$, beyond a critical disorder strength mobility edge appears for $a > 1$, while, for $0< a\leq 1$, a multifractal edge separates the extended and the multifractal states. In both these limits, depending on the strength of the disorder, lowest $β^s L$ s…
One-dimensional quasi-periodic systems with power-law hopping, $1/r^a$, differ from both the standard Aubry-Azbel-Harper (AAH) model and from power-law systems with uncorrelated disorder. Whereas in the AAH model all single-particle states undergo a transition from ergodic to localized at a critical quasi-disorder strength, short-range power-law hops with $a>1$ can result in mobility edges. Interestingly, there is no localization for long-range hops with $a\leq 1$, in contrast to the case of uncorrelated disorder. Systems with long-range hops are rather characterized by ergodic-to-multifractal…
The correspondence between the real-complex transition in energy and delocalization-localization transition is well-established in a class of Aubry-Andr'e-Harper model with exponential non-Hermitian on-site potentials. In this paper, we study a generalized Aubry-Andr'e model with off-diagonal modulation and non-Hermitian on-site potential. We find that, when there exists an incommensurate off-diagonal modulation, the correspondence breaks down, although the extended phase is maintained in a wide parameter range of the strengths of the on-site potential and the off-diagonal hoppings. An additio…
We investigate localization-delocalization transition in one-dimensional non-Hermitian quasiperiodic lattices with exponential short-range hopping, which possess parity-time ($\mathcal{PT}$) symmetry. The localization transition induced by the non-Hermitian quasiperiodic potential is found to occur at the $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetry-breaking point. Our results also demonstrate the existence of energy dependent mobility edges, which separate the extended states from localized states and are only associated with the real part of eigen-energies. The level statistics and Loschmidt echo dynamics are al…
We study a non-Hermitian Aubry-André-Harper model with both nonreciprocal hoppings and complex quasiperiodical potentials, which is a typical non-Hermitian quasicrystal. We introduce boundary-dependent self-dualities in this model and obtain analytical results to describe its Asymmetrical Anderson localization and topological phase transitions. We find that the Anderson localization is not necessarily in accordance with the topological phase transitions, which are characteristics of localization of states and topology of energy spectrum respectively. Furthermore, in the localized phase, single…
Non-Hermitian quasicrystals possess PT and metal-insulator transitions induced by gain and loss or nonreciprocal effects. In this work, we uncover the nature of localization transitions in a generalized Aubry-Andre-Harper model with dimerized hopping amplitudes and complex onsite potential. By investigating the spectrum, adjacent gap ratios and inverse participation ratios, we find an extended phase, a localized phase and a mobility edge phase, which are originated from the interplay between hopping dimerizations and non-Hermitian onsite potential. The lower and upper bounds of the mobility ed…
Non-interacting spinless electrons in one-dimensional quasicrystals, described by the Aubry-André-Harper (AAH) Hamiltonian with nearest neighbour hopping, undergoes metal to insulator transition (MIT) at a critical strength of the quasi-periodic potential. This transition is related to the self-duality of the AAH Hamiltonian. Interestingly, at the critical point, which is also known as the self-dual point, all the single particle wave functions are multifractal or non-ergodic in nature, while they are ergodic and delocalized (localized) below (above) the critical point. In this work, we have s…
We propose a general analytic method to study the localization transition in one-dimensional quasicrystals with parity-time ($\mathcal{PT}$) symmetry, described by complex quasiperiodic mosaic lattice models. By applying Avila's global theory of quasiperiodic Schrödinger operators, we obtain exact mobility edges and prove that the mobility edge is identical to the boundary of $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetry breaking, which also proves the existence of correspondence between extended (localized) states and $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetry ($\mathcal{PT}$-symmetry-broken) states. Furthermore, we generalize the m…
We present exact solutions for some eigenstates of hopping models on one and two dimensional quasiperiodic tilings and show that they are "critical" states, by explicitly computing their multifractal spectra. These eigenstates are shown to be generically present in 1D quasiperiodic chains, of which the Fibonacci chain is a special case. We then describe properties of the ground states for a class of tight-binding Hamiltonians on the 2D Penrose and Ammann-Beenker tilings. Exact and numerical solutions are seen to be in good agreement.
Non-Hermitian effects could create rich dynamical and topological phase structures. In this work, we show that the collaboration between lattice dimerization and non-Hermiticity could generally bring about mobility edges and multiple localization transitions in one-dimensional quasicrystals. Non-Hermitian extensions of the Aubry-André-Harper (AAH) model with staggered onsite potential and dimerized hopping amplitudes are introduced to demonstrate our results. Reentrant localization transitions due to the interplay between quasiperiodic gain/loss and lattice dimerization are found. Quantized wi…
Time-periodic driving fields could endow a system with peculiar topological and transport features. In this work, we find dynamically controlled localization transitions and mobility edges in non-Hermitian quasicrystals via shaking the lattice periodically. The driving force dresses the hopping amplitudes between lattice sites, yielding alternate transitions between localized, mobility edge and extended non-Hermitian quasicrystalline phases. We apply our Floquet engineering approach to five representative models of non-Hermitian quasicrystals, obtain the conditions of photon-assisted localizat…
The investigations of the spectral and dynamical delocalization-localization (DL) transition have revealed intriguing features in a wide range of non-Hermitian systems. The present study aims at exploring the spectral and dynamical properties in a non-Hermitian quasiperiodic system with asymmetric hopping in the presence of Rashba Spin-Orbit (RSO) interaction. In particular, in such systems, we have identified that the DL transition is associated with a concurrent change in the energy spectrum, where the eigenstates always break the time-reversal symmetry for all strenghts of the quasiperiodic…

By analyzing the Lyapunov exponent (LE), we develop a rigorous, fundamental scheme for the study of general non-Hermitian quasicrystals with both complex phase factor and non-reciprocal hopping. Specially, the localization-delocalization transition point, $\mathcal{PT}$-symmetry-breaking point and the winding number transition points are determined by LEs of its dual Hermitian model. The analysis was based on Avila's global theory, and we found that winding number is directly related to the acceleration, the slope of the LE, while quantization of acceleration is the crucial ingredient of Avila…
The flow equation method was proposed by Wegner as a technique for studying interacting systems in one dimension. Here, we apply this method to a disordered one dimensional model with power-law decaying hoppings. This model presents a transition as function of the decaying exponent $α$. We derive the flow equations, and the evolution of single-particle operators. The flow equation reveals the delocalized nature of the states for $α<1/2$. Additionally, in the regime, $α>1/2$, we present a strong-bond renormalization group structure based on iterating the three-site clusters, where we solve the …
Non-Hermitian effects could trigger spectrum, localization and topological phase transitions in quasiperiodic lattices. We propose a non-Hermitian extension of the Maryland model, which forms a paradigm in the study of localization and quantum chaos by introducing asymmetry to its hopping amplitudes. The resulting nonreciprocal Maryland model is found to possess a real-to-complex spectrum transition at a finite amount of hopping asymmetry, through which it changes from a localized phase to a mobility edge phase. Explicit expressions of the complex energy dispersions, phase boundaries and mobil…
Interaction of bound states with a singular continuous spectrum is studied using a one dimensional Fibonacci quasicrystal as a prototype example. Single level quantum dots are attached from a side to a subset of atomic sites of the quasiperiodic chain. The proximity of the dots to the chain is modeled by introducing a tunnel hopping between a dot and the backbone. It is shown that, depending upon the proximity of the side coupled dot, the spectrum of an infinite quasiperiodic chain can display radical changes from its purely one dimensional characteristics. Absolutely continuous parts in the s…
In non-Hermitian quasicrystals, mobility edges (ME) separating localized and extended states in complex energy plane can arise as a result of non-Hermitian terms in the Hamiltonian. Such ME are of topological nature, i.e. the energies of localized and extended states exhibit distinct topological structures in the complex energy plane. However, depending on the origin of non-Hermiticity, i.e. asymmetry of hopping amplitudes or complexification of the incommensurate potential phase, different winding numbers are introduced, corresponding to different transport features in the bulk of the lattice…
We introduce and explore a family of self-dual models of single-particle motion in quasiperiodic potentials, with hopping amplitudes that fall off as a power law with exponent $p$. These models are generalizations of the familiar Aubry-Andre model. For large enough $p$, their static properties are similar to those of the Aubry-Andre model, although the low-frequency conductivity in the localized phase is sensitive to $p$. For $p \leq 2.1$ the Aubry-Andre localization transition splits into three transitions; two distinct intermediate regimes with both localized and delocalized states appear ne…
Quasicrystals have been the subject of intense research in the discipline of condensed matter physics due to their non-trivial characteristic features. In the present work we put forward a new prescription to realize both charge and spin current rectifications considering a one-dimensional quasicrystal whose site energies and/or nearest-neighbor hopping (NNH) integrals are modulated in the form of well known Aubry-André or Harper (AAH) model, a classic example of an aperiodic system. Each site of the chain contains a finite magnetic moment which is responsible for spin separation, and, in pres…
We investigate the spectral topology of one-dimensional lattices where the nonreciprocal hoppings within the nearest $r_d$ neighboring sites are the same. For the purely off-diagonal model without onsite potentials, the energy spectrum of the lattice under periodic boundary conditions (PBCs) forms an inseparable loop that intertwines with itself in the complex energy plane and is characterized by winding numbers ranging from 1 up to $r_d$. The corresponding spectrum under open boundary conditions (OBCs), which is real in the nearest neighboring model, will ramify and take the shape of an $(r_d…
In a tight binding framework, we analyze the characteristics of electronic states in strongly disordered materials (hopping sites are placed randomly with no local order) with tunneling matrix elements decaying exponentially in the atomic separation with various decay ranges l examined. We calculate the density of states (DOS) and the Inverse Participation Ratio (IPR) for amorphous atomic configurations in one, two, and three dimensions. With a finite size scaling analysis of the IPR statistical distributions, it is shown that states are either extended or localized for a particular energy, an…

In a disordered environment, the probability of transmission of a wave reduces with increasing disorder, the ultimate limit of which is the near-zero transmission due to Anderson localization. Under localizing conditions, transport is arrested because the wave is trapped in the bulk of the sample with decaying-exponential coupling to the boundaries. Any further increase in disorder does not modify the overall transport properties. Here, we report the experimental demonstration of a hitherto-unrealized anomalous transport of hybrid particles under localizing disorder in a non-Hermitian setting.…
