We prove the first ever pointwise estimates of the (unrestricted) Green tensor and the associated pressure tensor of the nonstationary Stokes system in the half-space, for every space dimension greater than one. The force field is not necessarily assumed to be solenoidal. The key is to find a suitable Green tensor formula which maximizes the tangential decay, showing in particular the integrability of Green tensor derivatives. With its pointwise estimates, we show the symmetry of the Green tensor, which in turn improves pointwise estimates. We also study how the solutions converge to the initial data, and the (infinitely many) restricted Green tensors acting on solenoidal vector fields. As applications, we give new proofs of existence of mild solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations in $L^q$, pointwise decay, and uniformly local $L^q$ spaces in the half-space.

A maximum modulus estimate for the nonstationary Stokes equations in $C^2$ domain is found. The singular part and regular part of Poisson kernel are analyzed. The singular part consists of the gradient of single layer potential and the gradient of composite potential defined on only normal component of the boundary data. Furthermore, the normal velocity near the boundary is bounded if the boundary data is bounded. If the normal component of the boundary data is Dini-continuous and the tangential component of the boundary data is bounded, then the maximum modulus of velocity is bounded in whole…
We introduce and investigate the wellposedness of a model describing the self-propelled motion of a small abstract swimmer in the 3-D incompressible fluid governed by the nonstationary Stokes equation, typically associated with the low Reynolds numbers. It is assumed that the swimmer's body consists of finitely many subsequently connected parts, identified with the fluid they occupy, linked by rotational and elastic Hooke's forces. In this paper we are attempting to extend the 2-D version of this model, introduced in [18]-[20], to the 3-D case. Models like this are of interest in biological an…
In cylindrical domain, we consider the nonstationary flow with prescribed inflow and outflow, modelled with Navier-Stokes equations under the slip boundary conditions. Using smallness of some derivatives of inflow function, external force and initial velocity of the flow, but with no smallness restrictions on the inflow, initial velocity neither force, we prove existence of solutions in $W^{2,1}_2.$
A class of sufficient conditions of local regularity for suitable weak solutions to the nonstationary three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations are discussed. The corresponding results are formulated in terms of functionals which are invariant with respect to the Navier-Stokes equations scaling. The famous Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg condition is contained in that class as a particular case.
The multivariate analogue of Dalamber's equation in the space of generalized functions is considered. The method of generalized functions for the building of solutions of nonstationary boundary value problems for wave equations in spaces of different dimensions is elaborated. Dynamic analogues of Green and Gauss formulas for solutions of wave equation in the space of generalized functions are built. Their regular integral representations and singular boundary integral equations for solving the nonstationary problems are constructed for the spaces of the dimensions 1,2,3. The method of obtainin…
We consider the nonstationary linearized Navier-Stokes equations in a bounded domain and first we prove a Carleman estimate with a regular weight function. Second we apply the Carleman estimate to a lateral Cauchy problem for the Navier-Stokes equations and prove the Hölder stability in determining the velocity and pressure field in an interior domain.
We construct Green functions of conormal derivative problems for the stationary Stokes system with measurable coefficients in a two dimensional Reifenberg flat domain.
We derive refined estimates of the Green tensor of the stationary Stokes system in the half space. We then investigate the spatial asymptotics of stationary solutions of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in the half space. We also discuss the asymptotics of fast decaying flows in the whole space and exterior domains. In the Appendix we consider axisymmetric self-similar solutions.
We study Green functions for stationary Stokes systems satisfying the conormal derivative boundary condition. We establish existence, uniqueness, and various estimates for the Green function under the assumption that weak solutions of the Stokes system are continuous in the interior of the domain. Also, we establish the global pointwise bound for the Green function under the additional assumption that weak solutions of the conormal derivative problem for the Stokes system are locally bounded up to the boundary. We provide some examples satisfying such continuity and boundedness properties.
We study the solutions of the nonstationary incompressible Navier--Stokes equations in $\R^d$, $d\ge2$, of self-similar form $u(x,t)=\frac{1}{\sqrt t}U\bigl(\frac{x}{\sqrt t}\bigr)$, obtained from small and homogeneous initial data $a(x)$. We construct an explicit asymptotic formula relating the self-similar profile $U(x)$ of the velocity field to its corresponding initial datum $a(x)$.
We prove the existence and pointwise bounds of the Green functions for stationary Stokes systems with measurable coefficients in two dimensional domains. We also establish pointwise bounds of the derivatives of the Green functions under a regularity assumption on the $L_1$-mean oscillations of the coefficients.
We study Green functions for the pressure of stationary Stokes systems in a (possibly unbounded) domain $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^d$, where $d\ge 2$. We construct the Green function when coefficients are merely measurable in one direction and have Dini mean oscillation in the other directions, and $Ω$ is such that the divergence equation is solvable there. We also establish global pointwise bounds for the Green function and its derivatives when coefficients have Dini mean oscillation and $Ω$ has a $C^{1,\rm{Dini}}$ boundary. Green functions for the flow velocity of Stokes systems are also considere…
In this paper, we extend the maximum modulus estimate of the solutions of the nonstationary Stokes equations in the bounded $C^2$ cylinders for the space variables in \cite{CC} to time estimate. We show that if the boundary data is $L^\infty$ and the normal part of the boundary data has log-Dini continuity with respect to time, then the velocity is bounded. We emphasize that there is no continuity assumption on space variables in the new maximum modulus estimate. This completes the maximum modulus estimate.
This paper is the continuation of a program, initiated in Grenier-Nguyen [8,9], to derive pointwise estimates on the Green function of Orr Sommerfeld equations. In this paper we focus on long wavelength perturbations, more precisely horizontal wavenumbers $α$ of order $ν^{1/4}$, which correspond to the lower boundary of the instability area for monotonic profiles.
This paper is devoted to establishing the uniform estimates and asymptotic behaviors of the Green's functions $(G_\varepsilon,Π_\varepsilon)$ (and fundamental solutions $(Γ_\varepsilon, Q_\varepsilon)$) for the Stokes system with periodically oscillating coefficients (including a system of linear incompressible elasticity). Particular emphasis will be placed on the new oscillation estimates for the pressure component $Π_\varepsilon$. Also, for the first time we prove the \textit{adjustable} uniform estimates (i.e., Lipschitz estimate for velocity and oscillation estimate for pressure) by makin…
We study the Green function for the stationary Stokes system with bounded measurable coefficients in a bounded Lipschitz domain $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$, $n\ge 3$. We construct the Green function in $Ω$ under the condition $(\bf{A1})$ that weak solutions of the system enjoy interior Hölder continuity. We also prove that $(\bf{A1})$ holds, for example, when the coefficients are $\mathrm{VMO}$. Moreover, we obtain the global pointwise estimate for the Green function under the additional assumption $(\bf{A2})$ that weak solutions of Dirichlet problems are locally bounded up to the boundary of the …
We are interested in the inverse problem of recovering a Robin coefficient defined on some non accessible part of the boundary from available data on another part of the boundary in the nonstationary Stokes system. We prove a Lipschitz stability estimate under the \textit{a priori} assumption that the Robin coefficient lives in some compact and convex subset of a finite dimensional vectorial subspace of the set of continuous functions. To do so, we use a theorem proved by L. Bourgeois which establishes Lipschitz stability estimates for a class of inverse problems in an abstract framework.
We consider the spatial-temporal behavior of the Navier-Stokes flow past a rigid body in $\mathbb{R}^3$. The present paper develops analysis in Lebesgue spaces with anisotropic weights $(1+|x|)^α(1+|x|-x_1)^β$, which naturally arise in the asymptotic structure of fluid when the translational velocity of the body is parallel to the $x_1$-direction. We derive anisotropically weighted $L^q$-$L^r$ estimates for the Oseen semigroup in exterior domains. As applications of those estimates, we study the stability/attainability of the Navier-Stokes flow in anisotropically weighted $L^q$ spaces to get t…
This paper addresses a nonstationary flow of heat-conductive incompressible Newtonian fluid with temperature-dependent viscosity coupled with linear heat transfer with advection and a viscous heat source term, under Navier/Dirichlet boundary conditions. The partial regularity for the velocity of the fluid is proved to each proper weak solution, that is, for such weak solutions which satisfy some local energy estimates in a similar way to the suitable weak solutions of the Navier-Stokes system. Finally, we study the nature of the set of points in space and time upon which proper weak solutions …

Dynamic analogues of Green and Gauss formulas for solutions of wave equation in the distributions space are built. Their regular integral representations and singular boundary integral equations for solving the nonstationary problems are constructed for the coordinates spaces of the 1,2,3-dimensions. The method of obtaining…
The paper deals with a mixed boundary value problem for the Stokes system in a polyhedral cone. Here different boundary conditions (in particular, Dirichlet, Neumann, free surface conditions) are prescribed on the sides of the polyhedron. The authors obtain regularity results for weak solutions in weighted $L_2$ Sobolev spaces and prove point estimates of Green's matrix.
In previous work \cite{W-Y-Z-local}, we studied the local well-posedness of weak solution to the 1-D full compressible Navier-Stokes equation with initial data of small total variation. Specifically, the local existence, the regularity, and the uniqueness in certain function space of the weak solution have been established. The basis for the previous study is the precise construction of fundamental solution for heat equation with BV conductivity. In this paper, we continue to investigate the global stability and the time asymptotic behavior of the weak solution. The main step is to construct t…
For the Stokes system in the half space, Kang [Math.~Ann.~2005] showed that a solution generated by a compactly supported, Hölder continuous boundary flux may have unbounded normal derivatives near the boundary. In this paper we first prove explicit global pointwise estimates of the above solution, showing in particular that it has finite global energy and its derivatives blow up everywhere on the boundary away from the flux. We then use the above solution as a profile to construct solutions of the Navier-Stokes equations which also have finite global energy and unbounded normal derivatives du…
This is a continuation and completion of the program (initiated in \cite{GrN1,GrN2}) to derive pointwise estimates on the Green function and sharp bounds on the semigroup of linearized Navier-Stokes around a generic stationary boundary layer profile. This is done via a spectral analysis approach and a careful study of the Orr-Sommerfeld equations, or equivalently the Navier-Stokes resolvent operator $(λ- L)^{-1}$. The earlier work (\cite{GrN1,GrN2}) treats the Orr-Sommerfeld equations away from critical layers: this is the case when the phase velocity is away from the range of the background p…
In this paper, we are concerned with the system of the compressible Navier-Stokes equations coupled with the Maxwell equations through the Lorentz force in three space dimensions. The asymptotic stability of the steady state with the strictly positive constant density and the vanishing velocity and electromagnetic field is established under small initial perturbations in regular Sobolev space. For that, the dissipative structure of this hyperbolic-parabolic system is studied to include the effect of the electromagnetic field into the viscous fluid and turns out to be more complicated than that…
Space-time behaviors for 3D compressible bipolar Navier-Stokes-Poisson system (BNSP) with unequal viscosities are given. The space-time estimate of electric field $\nablaϕ$ is the most important thing when deducing generalized Huygens' principle for BNSP since this estimate only can be obtained by $\nablaϕ=\frac{\nabla}Δ(ρ-n)$ from the Poisson equation. Thus, it requires to prove that the space-time estimate of $ρ-n$ only contains diffusion wave. The appearance of these unequal coefficients results that one cannot follow ideas for the special case, where the original system was rewritten as a …
We establish the existence and the pointwise bound of the fundamental solution for the stationary Stokes system with measurable coefficients in the whole space $\mathbb{R}^d$, $d \ge 3$, under the assumption that weak solutions of the system are locally Hölder continuous. We also discuss the existence and the pointwise bound of the Green function for the Stokes system with measurable coefficients on $Ω$, where $Ω$ is an unbounded domain such that the divergence equation is solvable. Such a domain includes, for example, half space and an exterior domain.
Generalizing similar results for viscous shock and relaxation waves, we establish sharp pointwise Green function bounds and linearized and nonlinear stability for traveling wave solutions of an abstract viscous combustion model including both Majda's model and the full reacting compressible Navier--Stokes equations with artificial viscosity with general multi-species reaction and reaction-dependent equation of state, % under the necessary conditions of strong spectral stability, i.e., stable point spectrum of the linearized operator about the wave, transversality of the profile as a connection…
In this paper, we investigate the pointwise behavior of the solution for the compressible Navier-Stokes equations with mixed boundary condition in half space. Our results show that the leading order of Green's function for the linear system in half space are heat kernels propagating with sound speed in two opposite directions and reflected heat kernel (due to the boundary effect) propagating with positive sound speed. With the strong wave interactions, the nonlinear analysis exhibits the rich wave structure: the diffusion waves interact with each other and consequently, the solution decays wit…
In this paper, we investigate the pointwise space-time behavior of two-phase fluid model derived by Choi \cite{Choi} [SIAM J. Math. Anal., 48(2016), pp. 3090-3122], which is the compressible damped Euler equations coupled with compressible Naiver-Stokes equations. Based on Green's function method together with frequency analysis and nonlinear coupling of different wave patterns, it shows that both of two densities and momentums obey the generalized Huygens' principle as the compressible Navier-Stokes equations \cite{LW}, however, it is different from the compressible damped Euler equations \ci…
A mixed boundary value problem for the Stokes system in a polyhedral domain is considered. Here different boundary conditions (in particular, Dirichlet, Neumann, free surface conditions) are prescribed on the sides of the polyhedron. The authors prove the existence of solutions in (weighted and non-weighted) $L_p$ Sobolev spaces and obtain regularity assertions for weak solutions. The results are based on point estimates of Green's matrix.
We present an algorithm for the numerical solution of systems of fully nonlinear PDEs using stochastic coded branching trees. This approach covers functional nonlinearities involving gradient terms of arbitrary orders, and it requires only a boundary condition over space at a given terminal time $T$ instead of Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions at all times as in standard solvers. Its implementation relies on Monte Carlo estimation, and uses neural networks that perform a meshfree functional estimation on a space-time domain. The algorithm is applied to the numerical solution of the Navi…

In their classical work [20], Caflisch and Sammartino established the inviscid limit and boundary layer expansions of vanishing viscosity solutions to the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations for analytic data on a half-space. It was then subsequently announced in their Comptes rendus article [4] that the results can be extended to include analytic data on an exterior circular domain, however the proof appears missing in the literature. The extension to an exterior domain faces a fundamental difficulty that the corresponding linear semigroup may not be contractive in analytic spaces as was t…
