We study the problem of constructing a general hybrid quantum-classical bracket from a partial classical limit of a full quantum bracket. Introducing a hybrid composition product, we show that such a bracket is the commutator of that product. From this we see that the hybrid bracket will obey the Jacobi identity and the Leibniz rule provided the composition product is associative. This suggests that the set of hybrid variables belonging to an associative subalgebra with the composition product will have consistent quantum-classical dynamics. This restricts the class of allowed quantum-classical interaction Hamiltonians. Furthermore, we show that pure quantum or classical variables can interact in a consistent framework, unaffected by no-go theorems in the literature or the restrictions for hybrid variables. In the proposed scheme, quantum backreaction appears as quantum-dependent terms in the classical equations of motion.
Many open quantum systems encountered in both natural and synthetic situations are embedded in classical-like baths. Often, the bath degrees of freedom may be represented in terms of canonically conjugate coordinates, but in some cases they may require a non-canonical or non-Hamiltonian representation. Herein, we review an approach to the dynamics and statistical mechanics of quantum subsystems embedded in either non-canonical or non-Hamiltonian classical-like baths which is based on operator-valued quasi-probability functions. These functions typically evolve through the action of quasi-Lie b…
Using the example of the harmonic oscillator, we illustrate the use of hybrid dynamical brackets in analyzing quantum-classical interaction. We only assume that a hybrid dynamical bracket exists, is bilinear, and reduces to the pure quantum/classical bracket when acting on pure quantum/classical variables. Any hybrid bracket obeying these natural requirements will produce the same dynamics for pure classical or quantum variables, given a hybrid Hamiltonian. Backreaction is manifested in the evolution of a nonvanishing commutator between classical variables. The more massive the classical syste…
We emphasize the usefulness of the Lie brackets in the context of classical and quantum mechanics. By way of examples we show that many dynamical systems, especially the ones with (gauge) constraints, can equally be treated in their time development with non-canonical variables and Hamiltonians. After a short presentation of the Lie bracket algebra and treating some easier standard problems with the Lie bracket techniques, we concentrate mainly on charged particles with gauge constraint in a constant external magnetic field. Since most of our quantum field theories are meanwhile considered eff…
We study compound systems with a classical sector and a quantum sector. Among other consistency conditions we require a canonical structure, that is, a Lie bracket for the dynamical evolution of hybrid observables in the Heisenberg picture, interpolating between the Poisson bracket and the commutator. Weak and strong postulates are proposed. We explicitly construct one such hybrid bracket when the Hilbert space of the quantum sector is finite dimensional and show that it is unique if the strong postulates are enforced. The adjoint bracket for the Schrodinger picture version of the dynamics is …
We present an explicit matrix algebra quantization of the algebra of volume-preserving diffeomorphisms of the $n$-torus. That is, we approximate the corresponding classical Nambu brackets using $\mathfrak{sl}(N^{\lceil\frac{n}{2}\rceil},\mathbb{C})$-matrices equipped with the finite bracket given by the completely anti-symmetrized matrix product, such that the classical brackets are retrieved in the $N\rightarrow \infty$ limit. We then apply this approximation to the super $4$-brane in $9$ dimensions and give a regularized action in analogy with the matrix quantization of the supermembrane. Th…

Algebra of quantum mechanics via classical phonons. II: Klein-Gordon dynamics, the Heisenberg formalism, the Dirac canonical commutation rule and the Poincare algebra through the continuous Poisson bracket formalism
Inspired by the geometric bracket for the generalized covariant Hamilton system, we abstractly define a generalized geometric commutator $$\left[ a,b \right]={{\left[ a,b \right]}_{cr}}+G\left(s,a,b \right)$$ formally equipped with geomutator $G\left(s, a,b \right)=a{{\left[ s,b \right]}_{cr}}-b{{\left[ s,a \right]}_{cr}}$ defined in terms of structural function $s$ related to the structure of spacetime or manifolds itself for revising the classical representation ${{\left[ a,b \right]}_{cr}}=ab-ba$ for any elements $a$ and $b$ of any algebra. Then we use the generalized geometric commutator t…
We introduce the Poisson bracket operator which is an alternative quantum counterpart of the Poisson bracket. This operator is defined using the operator derivative formulated in quantum analysis and is equivalent to the Poisson bracket in the classical limit. Using this, we derive the quantum canonical equation which describes the time evolution of operators. In the standard applications of quantum mechanics, the quantum canonical equation is equivalent to the Heisenberg equation. At the same time, this equation is applicable to c-number canonical variables and then coincides with the canonic…
We consider the recognition problem of the Dyck Language generalized for multiple types of brackets. We provide an algorithm with quantum query complexity $O(\sqrt{n}(\log n)^{0.5k})$, where $n$ is the length of input and $k$ is the maximal nesting depth of brackets. Additionally, we show the lower bound for this problem which is $O(\sqrt{n}c^{k})$ for some constant $c$. Interestingly, classical algorithms solving the Dyck Language for multiple types of brackets substantially differ form the algorithm solving the original Dyck language. At the same time, quantum algorithms for solving both kin…
We introduce the concepts of Poisson brackets for classical noise, and of canonically conjugate Wiener processes (symplectic noise). Phase space diffusions driven by these processes are considered and the general form of a stochastic process preserving the full (system and noise) Poisson structure is obtained. We show that, once the classical stochastic model is required to preserve the joint system and noise Poisson bracket, it has much in common with quantum markovian models.
Starting with the well-defined product of quantum fields at two spacetime points, we explore an associated Poisson structure for classical field theories within the deformation quantization formalism. We realize that the induced star-product is naturally related to the standard Moyal product through an appropriate causal Green's functions connecting points in the space of classical solutions to the equations of motion. Our results resemble the Peierls-DeWitt bracket analyzed in the multisymplectic context. Once our star-product is defined we are able to apply the Wigner-Weyl map in order to in…
