How quantum tunneling will behave when the singularity is preserved as much as possible is the main question of this paper. We get that the Coulomb sibgularity is reflected as infinitly accelerated oscillations in the transmission coefficient between zero and one when the incident particles energy approaches the zero boundary. At relatively high energies, the tunneling acqures the caracter inherent in regular potentials, and becomes completly transparent in the asymptote.
Tunneling of electrons through a barrier with complex potential is investigated. We focus on two cases, symmetric double rectangular barrier and double delta potential barrier, and give expressions for resonant transmission probability for both cases. Expressions for reflection amplitude and absorption are also obtained in the case of delta potential. It will be shown that for given dimensions of the potential barrier and the real part of the potential, resonant transmission probability approaches infinity for only one positive value of the imaginary part of the potential.
In this paper, the interaction and transmission time of quantum density solitons waves representing particles passing through finite barrier potentials is investigated. Using the conservation of energy and of quantum density, it is first demonstrated that these waves have finite de Broglie wavelength and represent particles in quantum theory. The passage of the quantum density solitons (particles) through barriers of finite energies is then shown to lead to the phenomena of resonant tunneling and, in Josephson-like configurations, to the quantization of magnetic flux. A precise general measure…
I show that the MacColl-Hartman effect, namely, the saturation of the group delay time of sub-barrier quantum tunneling as a function of the barrier width, comes from the saturating behavior of a more fundamental concept - the phase of the stationary wave function. The explanation of saturation is given based on the decomposition of the stationary wave function into the spectrum of wave numbers and formulation of the initial condition for the direction of propagation of the incident matter wave. It is also shown that the saturation plateau of MacColl and Hartman actually doesn't continue indef…
In the case of tunneling of relativistic particles, differently from the nonrelativistic case, a limit of "transparent" barrier can also lead to an apparent "superluminal" behavior when considering the phase time. In this limit, the restricting condition of "opaque" barrier of the nonrelativistic case is avoided, nevertheless, the very thin width of a single barrier to obtain this "transparent" limit can result in a problem itself, for probing the effect. A combination of two successive transparent barriers can show an apparent "superluminal" behavior along a macroscopic arbitrary distance "L"…
We study the asymptotic behavior of the spectral gap of simple barrier tunneling problems, which are related to using quantum annealing to find the global optimum of cost functions defined over n bits. Specifically we look at the problem of having an n qubit system tunnel through a barrier of width and height proportional to n^a. We show that with these quantum annealing problems, the asymptotic, $n\to\infty$, behavior of the spectral gap does not accurately describe the behavior of the gap at finite n until extremely large values of n (n>10^{12}). We prove that this deficiency of the asymptot…
We propose a scheme of the exact fast-forwarding of standard quantum dynamics for a charged particle. The present idea allows the acceleration of both the amplitude and phase of the wave function throughout the fast-forward time range and is distinct from that of Masuda-Nakamura (e.g., Proc. R. Soc. A {\bf 466}, 1135 (2010)) which enabled acceleration of only the amplitude of the wave function on the way. We shall apply the proposed method to the quantum tunneling phenomena and obtain the electro-magnetic field to ensure the rapid penetration of wave functions through a tunneling barrier. Typi…
Assuming that the selectivity filter of KcsA potassium ion channel may exhibit quantum coherence, we extend a previous model by Vaziri and Plenio (2010) to take into account Coulomb repulsion between potassium ions. We show that typical ion transit timescales are determined by this interaction, which imposes optimal input/output parameter ranges. Also, as observed in other examples of quantum tunneling in biological systems, addition of moderate noise helps coherent ion transport.
How much time does a tunneling particle spend in a barrier? A Larmor clock, one proposal to answer this question, measures the interaction between the particle and the barrier region using an auxiliary degree of freedom of the particle to clock the dwell time inside the barrier. We report on precise Larmor time measurements of ultra-cold $^{87}$Rb atoms tunneling through an optical barrier, which confirm longstanding predictions of tunneling times. We observe that atoms generally spend less time tunneling through higher barriers and that this time decreases for lower energy particles. For the …
Klein tunneling and conductance for Dirac fermions in ABC-stacked trilayer graphene (ABC-TLG) through symmetric and asymmetric double potential barriers are investigated using the two and six-band continuum model. Numerical results for our system show that the transport is sensitive to the height, the width and the distance between the two barriers. Klein paradox at normal incidence and resonant features at non-normal incidence in the transmission result from resonant electron states in the wells or hole states in the barriers and strongly influence the ballistic conductance of the structures.
We study the tunneling of Dirac fermions in graphene through a double barrier potential allowing the carriers to have an effective mass inside the barrier as generated by a lattice miss-match with the boron nitride substrate. The consequences of this gap opening on the transmission are investigated. The realization of resonant tunneling conditions is also analyzed.
The nondipole under-the-barrier dynamics of the electron during strong-field tunneling ionization is investigated, examining the role of the Coulomb field of the atomic core. The common analysis in the strong field approximation is consequently generalised to include the leading light-front non-dipole Coulomb corrections and demonstrates the counter-intuitive impact of the sub-barrier Coulomb field. Despite its attractive nature, the sub-barrier Coulomb field increases the photoelectron nondipole momentum shift along the laser propagation direction, involving a strong dependence on the laser f…
We study the tunneling time of Dirac fermions in graphene magnetic barrier through an electrostatic potential and a mass term. This latter generates an energy gap in the spectrum and therefore affects the proprieties of tunneling of the system. For clarification, we first start by deriving the eigenspinors solutions of Dirac equation and second connect them to the incident, reflected and transmitted beam waves. This connection allows us to obtain the corresponding phases shifts and consequently compute the group delay time in transmission and reflection. Our numerical results show that the gro…
We investigate Klein tunneling through finite potential barriers with space-time resolved solutions to relativistic quantum field equations. We find that no particle actually tunnels through a finite supercritical barrier, even in the case of resonant tunneling. The transmission is instead mediated by modulations in pair production rates, at each edge of the barrier, caused by the incoming electron. We further examine the effect of the barrier's width on the numbers of produced pairs in the fermionic case (characterized by saturation) and in the bosonic case (characterized by exponential super…

We study the transmission probability of Dirac fermions in graphene scattered by a triangular double barrier potential in the presence of an external magnetic field. Our system made of two triangular potential barrier regions separated by a well region characterized by an energy gap. Solving our Dirac-like equation and matching the solutions at the boundaries allowed us to express our transmission and reflection coefficients in terms of transfer matrix. We show in particular that the transmission exhibits oscillation resonances that are manifestations of the Klein tunneling effect. The triangu…
The tunneling time problem earlier studied in Phys. Rev. Lett 108 170402 (2012) using a non-relativistic time-of-arrival (TOA) operator predicted that tunneling time is instantaneous. This raises the question on whether instantaneous tunneling time is a consequence of using a non-relativistic theory. Here, we extend the analysis by proposing a formalism on the construction of relativistic TOA-operators for spin-0 particles in the presence of an interaction potential via quantization. We then construct the corresponding barrier traversal time operator and impose the condition that the barrier h…
We study the transport properties of charge carriers in phosphorene with a mass term through double barriers. The solutions of the energy spectrum are obtained and the dependence of the eigenvalues on the barrier potentials and wave vectors in the $x$-direction is numerically computed. Using the boundary conditions together with the matrix transfer method, we determine transmission and the conductance of our system. These two quantities are analyzed by studying their main characteristics as a function of the physical parameters along the armchair direction. Our results show the highly anisotro…
