Existence of strong Kähler with torsion metrics, shortly SKT metrics, on complex manifolds has been shown to be unstable under small deformations. We find necessary conditions under which the property of being SKT is stable for a smooth curve of Hermitian metrics $\{ω_t\}_t$ which equals a fixed SKT metric $ω$ for $t=0$, along a differentiable family of complex manifolds $\{M_t\}_t$.
The aim of the paper is to investigate the rigidity and the deformability of pseudoholomorphic curves in the nearly K{ä}hler sphere $\mathbb{S}^6,$ among minimal surfaces in spheres. Under various assumptions we describe the moduli space of all noncongruent minimal surfaces $f\colon M\to\mathbb{S}^n$ that are isometric to a pseudoholomorphic curve in $\mathbb{S}^6.$ Moreover, we prove a Schur type theorem (see \cite[p. 36]{Chnew}) for minimal surfaces in spheres.
We will introduce formal frames of manifolds, which are a generalization of ordinary frames. Their fundamental properties are discussed. In particular, canonical forms are introduced, and torsions are defined in terms of them as a generalization of the structural equations. It will be shown that the vanishing of torsions are equivalent to the realizability of given formal frames as ordinary frames. We will also discuss deformations of linear connections on tangent bundles. An application to deformations of foliations are then given.
The invariant metric affine connections on Berger spheres which are Einstein with skew torsion are determined in both Riemannian and Lorentzian signature. Expressions of such connections are explicitly given. In particular, every Berger sphere with Lorentzian signature admits invariant metric affine connections Einstein with skew-torsion up to $\mathbb{S}^3$. For Riemannian signature, the existence of such connections strongly depends on the dimension of the sphere and on the scale of the deformation used for the Berger metric. In particular, there are Riemaniann Berger spheres, not Einstein, …
Recently, Dinew and Popovici introduced and studied an energy functional $F$ acting on the metrics in the Aeppli cohomology class of a Hermitian-symplectic metric and showed that in dimension 3 its critical points (if any) are Kähler. In this article we further investigate the critical points of this functional in higher dimensions and under holomorphic deformations. We first prove that being a critical point for $F$ is a closed property under holomorphic deformations. We then show that the existence of a Kähler metric $ω_k$ in the Aeppli cohomology class is an open property under holomorphic …

We consider the moduli space $\mathcal{M}_ν$ of torsion-free, asymptotically conical (AC) Spin(7)-structures which are defined on the same manifold and asymptotic to the same Spin(7)-cone with decay rate $ν<0$. We show that $\mathcal{M}_ν$ is an orbifold if $ν$ is a generic rate in the non-$L^2$ regime $(-4,0)$. Infinitesimal deformations are given by topological data and solutions to a non-elliptic first-order PDE system on the compact link of the asymptotic cone. As an application, we show that the classical Bryant-Salamon metric on the bundle of positive spinors on $S^4$ has no continuous d…
We develop some consequences of the connection between Calabi-Yau structures and torsion-free $G_2$ structures on compact and asymptotically cylindrical six- and seven-dimensional manifolds. Firstly, we improve the known proof that matching asymptotically cylindrical Calabi-Yau threefolds can be glued. Secondly, we give an alternative proof that the moduli space of Calabi-Yau structures on a six-dimensional real manifold is smooth, and extend it to the asymptotically cylindrical case. Finally, we prove that the gluing map of Calabi-Yau threefolds, extended between these moduli spaces, is a loc…
In the first part, we define and investigate new classes of almost 3-contact metric manifolds, with two guiding ideas in mind: first, what geometric objects are best suited for capturing the key properties of almost 3-contact metric manifolds, and second, the newly defined classes should admit 'good' metric connections with skew torsion. In particular, we introduce the Reeb commutator function and the Reeb Killing function, we define the new classes of canonical almost 3-contact metric manifolds and of 3-$(α,δ)$-Sasaki manifolds (including as special cases 3-Sasaki manifolds, quaternionic Heis…
A linkage mechanism consists of rigid bodies assembled by joints which can be used to translate and transfer motion from one form in one place to another. In this paper, we are particularly interested in a family of spacial linkage mechanisms which consist of $n$-copies of a rigid body joined together by hinges to form a ring. Each hinge joint has its own axis of revolution and rigid bodies joined to it can be freely rotated around the axis. The family includes the famous threefold symmetric Bricard6R linkage also known as the Kaleidocycle, which exhibits a characteristic "turning over" motion…
This paper is devoted to the first systematic investigation of manifolds that are Einstein for a connection with skew symmetric torsion. We derive the Einstein equation from a variational principle and prove that, for parallel torsion, any Einstein manifold with skew torsion has constant scalar curvature; and if it is complete of positive scalar curvature, it is necessarily compact and it has finite first fundamental group. The longest part of the paper is devoted to the systematic construction of large families of examples. We discuss when a Riemannian Einstein manifold can be Einstein with s…
We investigate octonion product deformations coming from the parallelizable torsion of the 7-sphere $S^7$, obtaining a family of geometries from solutions of the Lagrangian formalism movement equations. This can be achieved by analyzing the spontaneous compactification $M_4\times S^7$, where $M_4$ is a Lorentzian $4$-dimensional manifold. Besides the usual Riemannian geometry and two others proposed by Cartan and Schouten, solutions in geometries with torsion and more general seven-dimensional spaces are obtained. Such formalism may by subsequently derived over the 7-sphere $S^7$, locally give…
The aim of this paper is to develop on the 1-jet space J^1(R, M^n) the Finsler-like geometry (in the sense of distinguished (d-) connection, d-torsions, d-curvatures and some gravitational-like and electromagnetic-like geometrical models) attached to the (t,x)-conformal deformation of the Berwald-Moor metric.
