In this work we construct families of anisotropic neutron stars for an equation of state compatible with the constraints of the gravitational-wave event GW170817 and for four anisotropy ansatze. Such stars are subjected to a radial perturbation in order to study their stability against radial oscillations and we develop a dynamical model to describe the non-adiabatic gravitational collapse of the unstable anisotropic configurations whose ultimate fate is the formation of a black hole. We find that the standard criterion for radial stability $dM/dρ_c >0$ is not always compatible with the calculation of the oscillation frequencies for some anisotropy ansatze, and each anisotropy parameter is constrained taking into account the recent restriction of maximum mass of neutron stars. We further generalize the TOV equations within a non-adiabatic context and we investigate the dynamical behaviour of the equation of state, heat flux, anisotropy factor and mass function as an unstable anisotropic star collapses. After obtaining the evolution equations we recover, as a static limit, the background equations.
Here we study an anisotropic model of the universe with constant energy per particle. A decaying cosmological constant and particle production in an adiabatic process are considered as the sources for the entropy. The statefinder parameters $\{r,s\}$ are defined and their behaviour are analyzed graphically in some cases.
In this work we present an exact model of a spherically symmetric star undergoing dissipative collapse in the form of a radial heat flux. The interior of the star is matched smoothly to the generalised Vaidya line element representing a two-fluid atmosphere comprising null radiation and a string fluid. The influence of the string density on the thermal behaviour of the model is investigated by employing a causal heat transport equation of Maxwell-Cattaneo form.
We examine the role of space-time geometry in the non-adiabatic collapse of a star dissipating energy in the form of radial heat flow, studying its evolution under different initial conditions. The collapse of a star with interior comprising of a homogeneous perfect fluid is compared with that of a star filled with inhomogeneous imperfect fluid with anisotropic pressure. Both the configurations are spherically symmetric, however, in the latter case, the physical space $t= constant$ of the configurations is assumed to be inhomogeneous endowed with spheroidal or pseudo-spheroidal geometry. It is…
This paper is devoted to study the dynamics of gravitational collapse in the Misner and Sharp formalism. We take non-viscous heat conducting charged anisotropic fluid as a collapsing matter with cylindrical symmetry. The dynamical equations are derived and coupled with the transport equation for heat flux obtained from the M$\ddot{u}$ller-Israel-Stewart causal thermodynamic theory. We discuss the role of anisotropy, electric charge and radial heat flux over the dynamics of the collapse with the help of coupled equation.
Analytic gravitational collapse and expansion solutions with anisotropic pressure are generated. Metric functions are found by requiring zero heat flow scalar. It emerges that a single function generates the anisotropic solutions. Each generating function contains an arbitrary function of time which can be chosen to fit various astrophysical time profiles. Two examples are provided: a bounded collapse metric and an expanding cosmological solution
In this paper, we study dynamics of the charged plane symmetric gravitational collapse. For this purpose, we discuss non-adiabatic flow of a viscous fluid and deduce the results for adiabatic case. The Einstein and Maxwell field equations are formulated for general plane symmetric spacetime in the interior. Junction conditions between the interior and exterior regions are derived. For the non-adiabatic case, the exterior is taken as plane symmetric charged Vaidya spacetime while for the adiabatic case, it is described by plane Reissner-Nordstr$\ddot{o}$m spacetime. Using Misner and Sharp forma…
This paper deals with the collapse and expansion of relativistic anisotropic self-gravitating source. The field equations for non-radiating and non-static plane symmetric anisotropic source have been evaluated. The non-radiating property of the fluid leads to evaluation of the metric functions. We have classified the dynamical behavior of gravitational source as expansion and collapse. The collapse in this case leads to the final stage without the formation of apparent horizons while such horizons exists in case of spherical anisotropic source. The matching of interior and exterior regions pro…
A model is proposed of a collapsing quasi-spherical radiating star with matter content as shear-free isotropic fluid undergoing radial heat-flow with outgoing radiation. To describe the radiation of the system, we have considered both plane symmetric and spherical Vaidya solutions. Physical conditions and thermodynamical relations are studied using local conservation of momentum and surface red-shift. We have found that for existence of radiation on the boundary, pressure on the boundary is not necessary.
We develop a simple model for a self-gravitating spherically symmetric relativistic star which begins to collapse from an initially static configuration by dissipating energy in the form of radial heat flow. We utilize the model to show how local anisotropy effects the collapse rate and thermal behaviour of gravitationally evolving systems.
We have studied the dynamics of a cylindrical column of anisotropic, charged fluid which is experiencing dissipation in the form of heat flow, free-streaming radiation, and shearing viscosity, undergoing gravitational collapse. We calculate the Einstein-Maxwell field equations and, using the Darmois junction conditions, match the interior non-static cylindrically symmetric space-time with the exterior anisotropic, charged, cylindrically symmetric space-time. The behavior of the density, pressure and luminosity of the collapsing matter has been analyzed. From the dynamical equations, the effect…
The present work deals with dynamics of gravitational collapse with cylindrical symmetry as developed by Misner and Sharp. The interior collapsing anisotropic cylindrical perfect fluid is matched to an exterior vacuum cylindrically symmetric space-time due to Einstein--Rosen using the Darmois matching conditions. It is found that the radial pressure of the anisotropic perfect fluid is non-zero on the boundary surface and is related to the components of shear viscosity. As a result, there is formation of gravitational waves outside the collapsing matter.
A class of spherical collapsing exact solutions with electromagnetic charge is derived. This class of solutions -- in general anisotropic -- contains however as a particular case the charged dust model already known in literature. Under some regularity assumptions that in the uncharged case give rise to naked singularities, it is shown that the process of shell focusing singularities avoidance -- already known for the dust collapse -- also takes place here, determing shell crossing effects or a completely regular solution.
We present a class of exact solutions of Einstein field equations for a shear-free spherically symmetric anisotropic fluid undergoing radial heat flow. The interior metric fulfilled all the relevant physical and thermodynamic conditions and matched with Vaidya exterior metric over the boundary. Initially the interior solutions represent a static configuration of dissipative fluid which then gradually starts evolving into radiating collapse. The apparent luminosity observed by the distant observer at rest at infinity and the effective surface temperature are zero in remote past at the instance …
This manuscript is devoted to study the combined effect of a viable model, f(R) = R + αR^n, and electromagnetic field on the instability range of gravitational collapse. We assume charged anisotropic fluid that dissipate energy via heat flow and discuss that electromagnetic field, density inhomogeneity, shear and phase transition on astrophysical bodies can be incorporated by locally anisotropic background. Dynamical equations help to investigate the evolution of self-gravitating objects and leads to the conclusion that adiabatic index depend upon the electromagnetic background, mass and radiu…
This paper is devoted to study the effects of electromagnetic on the collapse and expansion of anisotropic gravitating source. For this purpose, we have evaluated the generating solutions of Einstein-Maxwell field equations with spherically symmetric anisotropic gravitating source. We found that a single function generates the various anisotropic solutions. In this case every generating function involves an arbitrary function of time which can be chosen to fit several astrophysical time profiles. Two physical phenomenon occur, one is gravitational collapse and other is the cosmological expandi…
Following the scheme developed by Misner and Sharp, we discuss the dynamics of gravitational collapse. For this purpose, an interior cylindrically symmetric spacetime is matched to an exterior charged static cylindrically symmetric spacetime using the Darmois matching conditions. Dynamical equations are obtained with matter dissipating in the form of shear viscosity. The effect of charge and dissipative quantities over the cylindrical collapse are studied. Finally, we show that homogeneity in energy density and conformal flatness of spacetime are necessary and sufficient for each other.
Interested in the collapse of a radiating star, we study the temporal evolution of a fluid with heat flux and bulk viscosity, including anisotropic pressure. As a starting point, we adopt an initial configuration that satisfies the regularities conditions as well as the energy conditions to a certain range of the mass-radius ratio for the star, defining acceptable models. For this set of models, we verify that the energy conditions remain satisfied until the black hole formation. Astrophysical relevant quantities, such as the luminosity perceived by an observer at infinity, the time of event h…
We study the evolution of an anisotropic shear-free fluid with heat flux and kinematic self-similarity of the second kind. We found a class of solution to the Einstein field equations by assuming that the part of the tangential pressure which is explicitly time dependent of the fluid is zero and that the fluid moves along time-like geodesics. The energy conditions, geometrical and physical properties of the solutions are studied. The energy conditions are all satisfied at the beginning of the collapse but when the system approaches the singularity the energy conditions are violated, allowing f…
Model of gravitational collapse of anisotropic compact stars in a new theory of $ f(R) $ gravity has been developed. The author considers the modified gravity model of $ f(R) = ξR^4 $ to investigate a physically acceptable model of gravitational collapse of anisotropic compact stars. First, the author presents a brief review of the development of field equations of gravitational collapse in $ f(R) $ gravity for a particular interior metric for compact stars. Then analytical solutions for various physical quantities of collapsing anisotropic compact stars in $ ξR^4 $ gravity have been developed…
This paper is devoted to investigate the cylindrical collapse of an anisotropic fluid in $f(R)$ gravity. For this purpose, the viscous charged anisotropic fluid dissipating energy with heat flow and shear is assumed. We use the perturbation scheme to develop the dynamical equations for the variables that ultimately lead to the disturbance of the physical variables and the Starobinksy like $f(R)$ model chosen. The evolution of the matter variables is discussed with the help of these equations. It can be concluded that the range of dynamic instabilities depends on the field strength, density dis…
This paper presents a hydrodynamic and thermodynamic treatment of a radiant star model that undergoes a dissipative gravitational collapse, from a certain initial configuration until it becomes a black hole. The collapsing star consists of a locally anisotropic non-perfect fluid, where we explore the consequences of including viscous pressures, both shear and bulk viscosities, as well as radial heat flow. We analyze the temporal evolution of the heat flux, mass function, luminosity perceived by an observer at infinity and the effective surface temperature. It is shown that this simple exact mo…
We consider a `Scalar-Maxwell-Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet' theory in four dimension, where the scalar field couples non-minimally with the Gauss-Bonnet (GB) term. This coupling with the scalar field ensures the non topological character of the GB term. In such higher curvature scenario, we explore the effect of electromagnetic field on scalar field collapse. Our results reveal that the presence of a time dependent electromagnetic field requires an anisotropy in the background spacetime geometry and such anisotropic spacetime allows a collapsing solution for the scalar field. The singularity formed a…
The physically realistic model of compact stars undergoing gravitational collapse in $ f(R) $ gravity has been developed. We consider a more general model $ R + f(R) = R + k R^m $ and describe the interior space-time of gravitationally collapsing stars with separable-form of metric admitting homothetic killing vector. We then investigate the junction conditions to match the interior space-time with exterior space-time. Considering all junction conditions, we find analytical solutions describing interior space-time metric, energy density, pressures, and heat flux density of the compact stars un…
We study quasi-spherical Szekeres space-time (which possess no killing vectors) for perfect fluid, matter with tangential stress only and matter with anisotropic pressure respectively. In the first two cases cosmological solutions have been obtained and their asymptotic behaviour have been examined while for anisotropic pressure, gravitational collapse has been studied and the role of the pressure has been discussed.
In this paper, we have formulated the exact solutions of the non-static anisotropic gravitating source in $f(R,T)$ gravity which may lead to expansion and collapse. By assuming the no thermal conduction in gravitating source, we have determine parametric solutions in $f(R,T)$ gravity with non-static spherical geometry filled with anisotropic fluid. We have examined the range of parameter for which expansion scalar become negative and positive leading to collapse and expansion, respectively. Further, using the definition of mass function the condition for the trapped surface have been explored …
A general iterative method proposed some years ago for the description of relativistic collapse, is presented here in comoving coordinates. For doing that we redefine the basic concepts required for the implementation of the method for comoving coordinates. In particular the definition of the post-quasistatic approximation in comoving coordinates is given. We write the field equations, the boundary conditions and a set of ordinary differential equations (the surface equations) which play a fundamental role in the algorithm. As an illustration of the method, we show how to build up a model insp…
We introduce a physically important object, called the horizon function, in the study of geodesic collapse. It is closely related to the stellar characteristics and satisfies a simple Riccati equation. This equation is integrated and all of its solutions are found in terms of some generating functions. Previous solutions are regained and further investigated.
We study the gravitational collapse of a spherically symmetric anisotropic relativistic star within Einstein theory of gravity making use of one of our recently developed collapsing stellar models [{\it Astrophys. Space Sci.} {\bf361} 99 (2016)]. The final state of continual gravitational collapse of a massive star under regular initial conditions is analyzed in terms of the formation of black holes. To study the evolution of an anisotropic star undergoing gravitational collapse, it is assumed that the dissipation process happens in the form of radial heat-flux. The interior space-time is desc…
In order to study the type of collapse, mentioned in the title, we introduce a physically meaningful object, called the horizon function. It directly enters the expressions for many of the stellar characteristics. The main junction equation, which governs the collapse, transforms into a Riccati equation with simple coefficients for the horizon function. We integrate this equation in the geodesic case. The same is done in the general case when one or another of the coefficients vanish. It is shown how to build classes of star models in this formulation of the problem and simple solutions are gi…
In the separate universe approach, an inhomogeneous universe is rephrased as a set of glued numerous homogeneous local patches. This is the essence of the gradient expansion and the $δN$ formalism, which have been widely used in solving a long wavelength evolution of the universe. In this paper, we show that the separate universe approach can be generically used, as long as a theory under consideration is local and preserves the spatial diffeomorphism invariance. Focusing on these two conditions, we also clarify the condition for the existence of the so-called Weinberg's adiabatic mode. Remark…
We study the implications of $R^n$ extension of Starobinsky model on dynamical instability of Vorticity-free axially symmetric gravitating body. The matter distribution is considered to be anisotropic for which modified field equations are formed in context of $f(R)$ gravity. In order to achieve the collapse equation, we make use of the dynamical equations, extracted from linearly perturbed contracted Bianchi identities. The collapse equation carries adiabatic index $Γ$ in terms of usual and dark source components, defining the range of stability/insatbility in Newtonian (N) and post-Newtonian…
Consider a dynamic general relativistic spacetime in which the proper infinitesimal interval along one spatial coordinate direction decreases monotonically with time, while the corresponding intervals increase along other spatial directions. In a system undergoing such complete anisotropic collapse/expansion, we look for the formation of a cosmic double-jet configuration: free test particles in the ambient medium, relative to the collapsing system, gain energy from the gravitational field and asymptotically line up parallel and antiparallel to the direction of collapse such that their Lorentz …
The semiclassical collapse of a sphere of quantized dust is studied. A Born-Oppenheimer decomposition is performed for the wave function of the system and the semiclassical limit is considered for the gravitational part. The method of adiabatic invariants for time dependent Hamiltonians is then employed to find (approximate) solutions to the quantum dust equations of motions. This allows us to obtain corrections to the adiabatic approximation of the dust states associated with the time evolution of the metric. The diverse non-adiabatic corrections are generally associated with particle (dust) …
The problem of the dynamical stability of anistropic systems is studied, by proposing a criterion in terms of the adiabatic local index $γ$. The result has general validity and can be applied to several physical situations. Configurations that cannot exist in the isotropic regime can exist in the anisotropic one. Some applications of the criterion are also included.
We investigate the evolution of non-adiabatic collapse of a shear-free spherically symmetric stellar configuration with anisotropic stresses accompanied with radial heat flux. The collapse begins from a curvature singularity with infinite mass and size on an inhomogeneous space-time background. The collapse is found to proceed without formation of an even horizon to singularity when the collapsing configuration radiates all its mass energy. The impact of inhomogeneity on various parameters of the collapsing stellar configuration is examined in some specific space-time backgrounds.
We derive the equation for the evolution of the curvature perturbation on the comoving time slice, $\mathcal{R}_c$, in the presence of anisotropic and non-adiabatic terms in the energy-momentum tensor of matter fields. The equation is obtained by manipulating the perturbed Einstein's equations in the comoving time slice. It could be used to study the evolution of the comoving curvature perturbations for systems with an anisotropic energy-momentum tensor, such as in the presence of vector fields, in the presence of entropy, such as in a multi-field system, or in modified gravity theories. As a …
We investigate the occurrence and nature of naked singularities in the gravitational collapse of an adiabatic perfect fluid in self-similar higher dimensional space-times. It is shown that strong curvature naked singularities could occur if the weak energy condition holds. Its implication for cosmic censorship conjecture is discussed. Known results of analogous studies in four dimensions can be recovered.
A charged compact star models have been determined for anisotropic fluid distribution. We have solved the Einstein's- Maxwell field equations to construct the charged compact star models by using radial pressure, metric function $e^λ$ and electric charge function. The generic charged anisotropic solution is verified by exploring different physical conditions like, causality condition, mass-radius relation and stability of the solution (via. adiabatic index, TOV equations and Herrera cracking concept). It is observed that the present charged anisotropic compact star is compatible with the star …
The present works deals with gravitational collapse of cylindrical viscous heat conducting anisotropic fluid following the work of Misner and Sharp. Using Darmois matching conditions, the dynamical equations are derived and the effect of charge and dissipative quantities over the cylindrical collapse are analyzed. Finally, using the Miller-Israel-Steward causal thermodynamic theory, the transport equation for heat flux are derived and its influence on collapsing system has been studied.
In this paper, we have investigated the non-adiabatic spherical gravitational collapse in the framework of the $f(R,T)$ theory of gravity with a locally anisotropic fluid that undergoes dissipation in the form of heat flux, free-streaming radiation, and shearing viscosity. The dynamical equations are analyzed in detail, both in the Newtonian and post-Newtonian regimes. Finally we couple the dynamical equations to the full causal transport equation in the context of Israel-Stewart theory of dissipative systems. This yields us a better understanding of the collapse dynamics and may be connected …
For the study of $3+1$ dimensional Einstein vacuum equations (EVEs), substantial progress has been made recently on the problem of trapped surface formation. However, very limited knowledge of existence and associated properties is acquired on the boundary of the emerged trapped region, i.e., the apparent horizon, which is composed of marginally outer trapped surfaces (MOTSs) and is of great physical importance. In this paper, concerning this emerged apparent horizon we prove a folklore conjecture relating to both cosmic censorship and black hole thermodynamics. In a framework set up by Christ…
This paper is devoted to evaluating exact anisotropic spherical solutions for static self-gravitating systems through extended geometric deformation decoupling technique. For this purpose, we consider an isotropic Tolman IV solution and extend it to anisotropic domain by transforming both temporal as well as radial metric potentials. To examine the physical viability and stability of interior anisotropic solutions, we plot energy bounds, TOV equation, causality condition and adiabatic index for the stars Her X-I and PSR J 1416-2230. It is found that both obtained models show realistic behavior…
Unitarity of evolution in gravitational collapses implies existence of macroscopic stable horizonless objects. With such objects in mind, we study the effects of anisotropy of pressures on the stability of stars. We consider stars in four or higher dimensions and also stars in M theory made up of (intersecting) branes. Taking the stars to be static, spherically symmetric and the equations of state to be linear, we study `singular solutions' and the asymptotic perturbations around them. Oscillatory perturbations are likely to imply instability. We find that non oscillatory perturbations, which …
In this paper, we discuss quantisation of cosmological tensor perturbations in the Kasner-de Sitter space-time as a model of (pre-)inflation. Quantisation in such an anisotropic background has been argued to be problematic based on the fact that the initial Kasner singularity, where the spatial anisotropy blows up, causes divergences to the effective frequencies squared for the perturbations, which render the standard quantisation procedure relying on the existence of an adiabatic vacuum state inexecutable. Here, an essential aspect of the problem is that the ability in determining the quantum…
In this paper, we discuss the effects of electromagnetic field on the dynamical instability of a spherically symmetric expansionfree gravitational collapse. Darmois junction conditions are formulated by matching interior spherically symmetric spacetime to exterior Reissner-Nordstr$\ddot{o}$m spacetime. We investigate the role of different terms in the dynamical equation at Newtonian and post Newtonian regimes by using perturbation scheme. It is concluded that instability range depends upon pressure anisotropy, radial profile of energy density and electromagnetic field, but not on the adiabatic…
In this work we obtain an anisotropic neutron star solution by gravitational decoupling starting from a perfect fluid configuration which has been used to model the compact object PSR J0348+0432. Additionally, we consider the same solution to model the Binary Pulsar SAX J1808.4-3658 and X-ray Binaries Her X-1 and Cen X-3 ones. We study the acceptability conditions and obtain that the MGD--deformed solution obey the same physical requirements as its isotropic counterpart. Finally, we conclude that the most stable solutions, according to the adiabatic index and gravitational cracking criterion, …
Recent analyses of the Planck data and quasars at high redshifts have suggested possible deviations from the flat $Λ$ cold dark matter model ($Λ$CDM), where $Λ$ is the cosmological constant. Here we use machine learning methods to investigate any possible deviations from $Λ$CDM at both low and high redshifts by using the latest cosmological data. Specifically, we apply the Genetic Algorithms to explore the nature of dark energy (DE) in a model independent fashion by reconstructing its equation of state $w(z)$, the growth index of matter density perturbations $γ(z)$, the linear DE anisotropic s…
Spatially homogeneous but possibly anisotropic cosmologies have two main types of singularities: (1) asymptotically velocity term dominated (AVTD) - (reversing the time direction) the universe evolves to the singularity with fixed anisotropic collapse rates ; (2) Mixmaster-the anisotropic collapse rates change in a deterministicaly chaotic way. Much less is known about spatially inhomogeneous universes. It has been claimed that a generic universe would evolve toward the singularity as a different Mixmaster universe at each spatial point. I shall discuss how to predict whether a cosmology has a…
We discuss the dynamical analysis in $f(R,T)$ gravity (where $R$ is Ricci scalar and $T$ is trace of energy momentum tensor) for gravitating sources carrying axial symmetry. The self gravitating system is taken to be anisotropic and line element describes axially symmetric geometry avoiding rotation about symmetry axis and meridional motions (zero vorticity case). The modified field equations for axial symmetry in $f(R,T)$ theory are formulated, together with the dynamical equations. Linearly perturbed dynamical equations lead to the evolution equation carrying adiabatic index $Γ$ that defines…
In this paper, we have studied gravitational collapse and expansion of non-static anisotropic fluid in $5D$ Einstein Gauss-Bonnet gravity. For this purpose, the field equations have been modeled and evaluated for the given source and geometry. The two metric functions have been expressed in terms of parametric form of third metric function. We have examined the range of parameter $β$ (appearing in the form of metric functions) for which $Θ$ the expansion scalar becomes positive/negative leads to expansion/collapse of the source. The trapped surface condition has been explored by using definiti…
We study gravitational collapse in higher dimensional quasi-spherical Szekeres space-time for matter with anisotropic pressure. Both local and global visibility of central curvature singularity has been studied and it is found that with proper choice of initial data it is possible to show the validity of CCC for six and higher dimensions. Also the role of pressure in the collapsing process has been discussed.
A new model is proposed to a collapsing star consisting of an initial inhomogeneous energy density and anisotropic pressure fluid with shear, radial heat flow and outgoing radiation. In previous papers one of us has always assumed an initial star with homogeneous energy density. The aim of this work is to generalize the previous models by introducing an initial inhomogeneous energy density and compare it to the initial homogeneous energy density collapse model. We will show the differences between these models in the evolution of all physical quantities that characterizes the gravitational col…
In this work, a spherically symmetric and static relativistic anisotropic fluid sphere solution of the Einstein field equations is provided. To build this particular model, we have imposed metric potential $e^{2λ(r)}$ and an equation of state. Specifically, the so-called modified generalized Chaplygin equation of state with $ω=1$ and depending on two parameters, namely, $A$ and $B$. These ingredients close the problem, at least mathematically. However, to check the feasibility of the model, a complete physical analysis has been performed. Thus, we analyze the obtained geometry and the main phy…
