In this paper, we discuss the effects of electromagnetic field on the dynamical instability of a spherically symmetric expansionfree gravitational collapse. Darmois junction conditions are formulated by matching interior spherically symmetric spacetime to exterior Reissner-Nordstr$\ddot{o}$m spacetime. We investigate the role of different terms in the dynamical equation at Newtonian and post Newtonian regimes by using perturbation scheme. It is concluded that instability range depends upon pressure anisotropy, radial profile of energy density and electromagnetic field, but not on the adiabatic index $Γ$. In particular, the electromagnetic field reduces the unstable region.
We consider the Jeans instability and the gravitational collapse of the rotating Bose-Einstein Condensate dark matter halos, described by the zero temperature non-relativistic Gross-Pitaevskii equation, with repulsive inter-particle interactions. In the Madelung representation of the wave function, the dynamical evolution of the galactic halos is described by the continuity and the hydrodynamic Euler equations, with the condensed dark matter satisfying a polytropic equation of state with index $n=1$. By considering small perturbations of the quantum hydrodynamical equations we obtain the dispe…
A self-interacting dark matter halo can experience gravothermal collapse, resulting in a central core with an ultrahigh density. It can further contract and collapse into a black hole, a mechanism proposed to explain the origin of supermassive black holes. We study dynamical instability of the core in general relativity. We use a truncated Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution to model the dark matter distribution and solve the Tolman-Oppenheimer-Volkoff equation. For given model parameters, we obtain a series of equilibrium configurations and examine their dynamical instability based on consideratio…
Thermal energy points toward a disordered, completely uniform state acting counter to gravity's tendency to generate order and structure through gravitational collapse. It is, therefore, expected to contribute to the stabilization of a self-gravitating, classical ideal gas over collapse. However, I identified an instability that always occurs at sufficiently high energies: the high-energy or relativistic gravothermal instability. I argue here that this instability presents an analogous core--halo structure as its Newtonian counterpart, the Antonov instability. The main difference is that in th…
It is known that the conformal instability or bottomless problem rises in the path integral method in quantizing the general relativity. Does quantum spacetime itself really suffer from such conformal instability? If so, does the conformal instability cause the collapse of local spacetime region or even collapse the whole spacetime? The problems are studied in the framework of the Quantum Spacetime Reference Frame (QSRF) and induced spacetime Ricci flow. We find that if the lowest eigenvalue of an operator, associated with the F-functional in a local compact (closed and bounded) region, is pos…
The gravitational collapse in asymptotically AdS spacetimes is studied, using the differential configurational entropy (DCE). The DCE is shown to comply with the instability of the Einstein-Klein-Gordon system, leading to different stages in the route to turbulence and final black hole formation, including near the critical behavior.
The discovery of a "weakly-turbulent" instability of anti-de Sitter spacetime supports the idea that confined fluctuations eventually collapse to black holes and suggests that similar phenomena might be possible in asymptotically-flat spacetime, for example in the context of spherically symmetric oscillations of stars or nonradial pulsations of ultracompact objects. Here we present a detailed study of the evolution of the Einstein-Klein-Gordon system in a cavity, with different types of deformations of the spectrum, including a mass term for the scalar and Neumann conditions at the boundary. W…
Exotic compact objects with physical surfaces a Planckian distance away from where the horizon would have been are inspired in quantum gravity. Most of these objects are defined by a classical spacetime metric, such as boson stars, gravastars and wormholes. We show that these classical objects are gravitationally unstable because accretion of ordinary and dark matter, and gravitational waves forces them to collapse to a black hole by the Hoop conjecture. To avoid collapse, their surface must be a macroscopic distance away from the horizon or they must violate the null energy condition.
In a certain class of scalar-Gauss-Bonnet gravity, the black holes and the neutron stars can undergo spontaneous scalarization -- a strong gravity phase transition triggered by a tachyonic instability due to the nonminimal coupling between the scalar field and the spacetime curvature. Studies of this phenomenon have, so far, been restricted mainly to the study of the tachyonic instability and stationary scalarized black holes and neutron stars. To date, no realistic physical mechanism for the formation of isolated scalarized black holes and neutron stars has been proposed. We study, for the fi…
We investigate cosmological models described by a scalar field with an exponential potential, and apply the stochastic formalism, which allows us to study how quantum field fluctuations give rise to stochastic noise. This modifies the classical dynamics of the scalar field at large scales, above a coarse-graining scale. In particular we explore how quantum field fluctuations perturb the equation of state on large scales which can lead to a quantum instability of the classical collapse solution below the Planck scale in the case of a pressureless collapse.
