Bell-Szekeres (BS) solution for colliding electromagnetic waves in Einstein-Maxwell (EM) theory describes also colliding waves in nonlinear electrodynamics (NED) with an emergent cosmological constant. Our NED model covers the first leading orders to the well-known Heisenberg-Euler (HE) type in a particular gauge of pure magnetic field. Prior to the problem of collision we obtain dyonic solution for the considered NED theory in a conformally flat spacetime which has both electric and magnetic fields with constant invariants. Our sole finding is that null currents inevitably arise in the process of collision of plane waves in the HE type NED theory.
It is well known that the Smarr formula does not hold for black holes in non-linear electrodynamics. The main reason for this is the fact that the trace of the energy momentum tensor for nonlinear electrodynamics does not vanish as it is for Maxwell's electrodynamics. Starting from the Komar integral, we derived a new Smarr-type formula for spherically symmetric static electrically charged black hole solutions in nonlinear electrodynamics. We show that this general formula is in agreement with some that are obtained for black hole solutions with nonlinear electrodynamics.
We present a mechanism that allows to describe any nonlinear theory of Electrodynamics as a consequence of the coupling of the electromagnetic field to gravity in the presence of a vacuum represented by the cosmological constant. We emphasize gravity\rq s exclusive role of catalysis.
We study influence of scalar fields on Nonlinear Electrodynamics spacetimes. The investigation is carried out using both test and gravitating scalar fields. After revisiting Einstein-Maxwell scalar field solutions we focus on analytic investigation of Nonlinear Electrodynamics scalar field spacetimes, especially Square Root Lagrangian model. The main motivation being to understand whether certain specific signatures of scalar fields are preserved when Nonlinear Electrodynamics as an additional source is considered. We show that the regularity of horizon which is spoiled by scalar field in sphe…
We show that families of nonlinear gravity theories formulated in a metric-affine approach and coupled to a nonlinear theory of electrodynamics can be mapped into General Relativity (GR) coupled to another nonlinear theory of electrodynamics. This allows to generate solutions of the former from those of the latter using purely algebraic transformations. This correspondence is explicitly illustrated with the Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld theory of gravity, for which we consider a family of nonlinear electrodynamics and show that, under the map, preserve their algebraic structure. For the parti…
Several traversable wormholes (T-WHs) of the Morris-Thorne type have been presented as exact solutions of Einstein-nonlinear electrodynamics gravity (GR-NLED), e.g. \cite{Arellano2009, Bronnikov2018,Bronnikov_Walia2021, Canate_Breton2018, Canate_Breton_Ortiz2020, Canate_Magos_Breton2020}. However, none of these solutions is support by a nonlinear electrodynamics model satisfying plausible conditions. In this work, we present the first traversable wormhole solution of Einstein-nonlinear electrodynamics gravity coupled to a self-interacting phantom scalar field (GR-NLED-SF) with a NLED model suc…
In this article, we construct exact black hole solutions with many horizons (more than number two) in the Einstein-nonlinear electrodynamic theories. In particular, we acquire the explicit expression of nonlinear electrodynamic Lagrangian for the 3-horizon black holes. Then we make the investigations of 3-horizon black holes on the horizons, the null and timelike geodesics, the Love numbers and the thermodynamics.
The effect of induced Riemann geometry in nonlinear electrodynamics is considered. The possibility for description of real gravitation by this effect is discussed.
It will be shown that a given realization of nonlinear electrodynamics, used as source of Einstein's equations, generates a cosmological model with interesting features, namely a phase of current cosmic acceleration, and the absence of an initial singularity, thus pointing to a way to solve two important problems in cosmology.
We consider an approach to unification of the gravitational and electromagnetic interactions based on the existence of an effective Riemannian space in nonlinear electrodynamics. In the context of this approach, we discuss the possibility of screening the gravitational field.
We consider the pure electric type power-law Lagrangian in nonlinear electrodynamics theory of dimensions $n+1$. Conformally flat form of Bertotti-Robinson type spacetimes are obtained in all these dimensions with the specific power $s=-\frac{1}{n-4},$which naturally excludes $n=4.$ This particular dimension is considered separately which is not of power-law form.
We explore the possibility of dynamic wormhole geometries, within the context of nonlinear electrodynamics. The Einstein field equation imposes a contracting wormhole solution and the obedience of the weak energy condition. Furthermore, in the presence of an electric field, the latter presents a singularity at the throat, however, for a pure magnetic field the solution is regular. Thus, taking into account the principle of finiteness, that a satisfactory theory should avoid physical quantities becoming infinite, one may rule out evolving wormhole solutions, in the presence of an electric field…
We analyze the dynamical stability of black hole solutions in self-gravitating nonlinear electrodynamics with respect to arbitrary linear fluctuations of the metric and the electromagnetic field. In particular, we derive simple conditions on the electromagnetic Lagrangian which imply linear stability in the domain of outer communication. We show that these conditions hold for several of the regular black hole solutions found by Ayon-Beato and Garcia.
The nonlinear Maxwell Lagrangian preserving both conformal and SO(2) duality-rotation invariance has been introduced very recently. Here, in the context of Einstein's theory of gravity minimally coupled with this nonlinear electrodynamics, we obtain a black hole solution which is the Reissner-Nordström black hole with one additional parameter that is coming from the nonlinear theory. We employ the causality and unitarity principles to identify an upper bound for this free parameter. The effects of this parameter on the physical properties of the black hole solution are investigated.
We analytically study the properties of a $(2+1)$-dimensional $s$-wave holographic superconductor in the presence of exponential nonlinear electrodynamics. We consider the case in which the scalar and gauge fields back react on the background metric. Employing the analytical Sturm-Liouville method, we find that in the black hole background, the nonlinear electrodynamics correction will affect the properties of the holographic superconductors. We find that with increasing both backreaction and nonlinear parameters, the scalar hair condensation on the boundary will develop more difficult. We obt…
On the basis of two requirements: the avoidance of the curvature singularity and the Maxwell theory as the weak field limit of the nonlinear electrodynamics, we find two restricted conditions on the metric function of $(2+1)$-dimensional regular black hole in general relativity coupled with nonlinear electrodynamics sources. By the use of the two conditions, we obtain a general approach to construct $(2+1)$-dimensional regular black holes. In this manner, we construct four $(2+1)$-dimensional regular black holes as examples. We also study the thermodynamic properties of the regular black holes…
We discuss the solution to Einstein's equations for a Lense-Thirring inspired metric describing a slowly rotating black hole coupled to nonlinear electrodynamics. We show that different schemes of rotation for the black hole exist; they depend on a parameter $γ$ defining the dependence of the metric on the polar angle. The fulfilment of the complete set of gravitational field equations and conservation laws implies constraints on this parameter and the metric functions. The vanishing of $γ$ provides the Lense-Thirring line element associated to any non-linear electrodynamics; the Kerr-Newman m…
We analyze the propagation of light in the context of nonlinear electrodynamics, as it occurs in modified QED vacua. We show that the corresponding characteristic equation can be described in terms of a modification of the effective geometry of the underlying spacetime structure. We present the general form for this effective geometry and exhibit some new consequences that result from such approach.
In this paper we consider a special case of vacuum non-linear electrodynamics with a stress-energy tensor conformal to the Maxwell theory. Distinctive features of this model are: the absence of dimensional parameter for non-linearity description and a very simple form of the dominant energy condition, which can be easily verified in an arbitrary pseudo-riemannian space-time with the consequent constrains on the model parameters. In this paper we analyse some properties of astrophysical compact objects coupled to conformal vacuum non-linear electrodynamics.
A new model of nonlinear electrodynamics with a dimensional parameter $β$ coupled to gravity is considered. We show that an accelerated expansion of the universe takes place if the nonlinear electromagnetic field is the source of the gravitational field. A pure magnetic universe is investigated and the magnetic field drives the universe to accelerate. In this model, after the big bang, the universe undergoes inflation, and the accelerated expansion and then decelerates approaching Minkowski spacetime asymptotically. We demonstrate the causality of the model and a classical stability at the dec…
Robinson--Trautman solutions with Nonlinear Electrodynamics are investigated for both L(F ) and L(F, G) Lagrangians and presence of electric and magnetic charges as well as electromagnetic radiation is assumed. Particular interest is devoted to models representing regular black holes for spherically symmetric situations. The results show clear uniqueness of Maxwell electrodynamics with respect to compatibility with Robinson--Trautman class. Additionally, regular black hole models are clearly not suited to this class while famous Born--Infeld model illustrates important distinction between L(F …
The near horizon limit of the extreme nonlinear black hole is investigated. It is shown that resulting geometry belongs to the AdS2xS2 class with different modules of curvatures of subspaces and could be described in terms of the Lambert functions. It is demonstrated that the considered class of Lagrangians does not admit solutions of the Bertotti-Robinson type.
The energy distributions for a black hole solution resulting from coupling electrodynamics and gravity in 2+1 dimensions are obtained. This solution considers the correction for a 2+1 static charged black hole from the first contribution of the weak field limit of one loop QED in 2+1 dimensions. The Einstein and Moller energy-momentum prescriptions are used to evaluate the energy distributions associated with the mentioned 2+1 dimensional black hole and other 2+1 black hole solutions coupled with nonlinear electrodynamics. A relation that connects the coefficients of both prescriptions is esta…
Maxwell electrodynamics, considered as a source of the classical Einstein field equations, leads to the singular isotropic Friedmann solutions. We show that this singular behavior does not occur for a class of nonlinear generalizations of the electromagnetic theory. A mathematical toy model is proposed for which the analytical nonsingular extension of FRW solutions is obtained.

In this paper we review some properties for the evolving wormhole solution of Einstein equations coupled with nonlinear electrodynamics. We integrate the geodesic equations in the effective geometry obeyed by photons; we check out the weak field limit and find the traversability conditions. Then we analyze the case when the lagrangian depends on two electromagnetic invariants and it turns out that there is not a more general solution within the assumed geometry.
In a bid to resolve lingering problems in cosmology, more focus is being tilted towards cosmological models in which physical constants of nature are not necessarily real constants but vary with cosmic time. In this paper, we study a cosmological model in nonlinear electrodynamics with Newton's gravitational constant $G$, which is not a constant but varies in terms of a power law of the scale factor of the universe. Hence, the evolution of the scale factor $a(t)$ is studied in this model, which depends on a fine-tuning term of nonlinear electrodynamics, $α$. Finally, we verify the stability of…
According to the Einstein, Weinberg, and Møller energy-momentum complexes, we evaluate the energy distribution of the singularity-free solution of the Einstein field equations coupled to a suitable nonlinear electrodynamics suggested by Ayón-Beato and García. The results show that the energy associated with the definitions of Einstein and Weinberg are the same, but Møller not. Using the power series expansion, we find out that the first two terms in the expression are the same as the energy distributions of the Reissner-Nordström solution, and the third term could be used to survey the factual…
In this article, we considered the strong field approximation of nonlinear electrodynamics black hole and constructed its rotating counterpart by applying the modified Newman-Janis algorithm. The corresponding metric function in the strong field limit of the static black hole is identified in order to study the radius of photon sphere. However, the metric function for the rotating counterpart in the strong field limit is considered in order to study the horizon radius w.r.t spin parameter. We considered the Hamilton-Jacobi method to derive the geodesic equations for photon and constructed an o…
We obtain a class of regular black hole solutions in four-dimensional $f(R)$ gravity, $R$ being the curvature scalar, coupled to a nonlinear electromagnetic source. The metric formalism is used and static spherically symmetric spacetimes are assumed. The resulting $f(R)$ and nonlinear electrodynamics functions are characterized by a one-parameter family of solutions which are generalizations of known regular black holes in general relativity coupled to nonlinear electrodynamics. The related regular black holes of general relativity are recovered when the free parameter vanishes, in which case …
The first exact rotating charged black hole solution to the Einstein{nonlinear electrodynamics theory is reported. It is equipped with mass, rotation parameter, electric and magnetic charges, and three parameters due to the electrodynamics: beta is associated to the potential vectors A{mu} and starP{nu}, and two constants, F0 and G0, related to the presence of the invariants F and G in the Lagrangian L(F;G). This Petrov type D solution is characterized by the Weyl tensor eigenvalue Psi2, the Ricci tensor eigenvalue S = 2Phi(11), and the scalar curvature R; it allows for event horizons, exhibit…
This paper explores the role of nonlinear electrodynamics on the stable configuration of thin-shell wormholes formulated from two equivalent geometries of Reissner-Nordström black hole with nonlinear electrodynamics. For this purpose, we use cut and paste approach to eliminate the central singularity and event horizons of the black hole geometry. Then, we explore the stability of the developed model by considering different types of matter distribution located at thin-shell, i.e., barotropic model and variable equations of state (phantomlike variable and Chaplygin variable models). We use line…
The famous hoop conjecture by Thorne has been claimed to be\ violated in curved spacetimes coupled to linear electrodynamics. Hod \cite{Hod:2018} has recently refuted this claim by clarifying the status and validity of the conjecture appropriately interpreting the gravitational mass parameter $M$. However, it turns out that partial violations of the conjecture might seemingly occur also in the well known regular curved spacetimes of gravity coupled to \textit{nonlinear electrodynamic}s. Using the interpretation of $M$ in a generic form accommodating nonlinear electrodynamic coupling, we illust…
Dyonic and magnetic black holes solutions with spherically symmetric configurations in general relativity are obtained. Black holes possessing electric and magnetic charges are studied where the source of the gravitational field is electromagnetic fields obeying the arcsin-electrodynamics. We find corrections to Coulomb's law and Reissner - Nordström solutions. The principles of causality and unitarity are investigated. We obtain the Hawking temperature and it was shown that at some event horizons there are second-order phase transitions.
We obtain a magnetically charged regular black hole in general relativity. The source to the Einstein field equations is nonlinear electrodynamic field in a physically reasonable model of nonlinear electrodynamics (NED). "Physically" here means the NED model is constructed on the basis of three conditions: the Maxwell asymptotic in the weak electromagnetic field limit; the presence of vacuum birefringence phenomenon; and satisfying the weak energy condition (WEC). In addition, we analyze the thermodynamic properties of the regular black hole in two ways. According to the usual black hole therm…
We discuss a gravitationally induced nonlinearity in hierarchic systems. We consider the generation of extremely low-frequency radio waves with a frequency of the periodic gravitational radiation; the generation is due to an induced nonlinear self-action of electromagnetic radiation in the vicinity of the gravitational-radiation source. These radio waves are a fundamentally new type of response of an electrodynamic system to gravitational radiation. That is why we here use an unconventional term: radio-wave messengers of periodic gravitational radiation.
In this paper we present two results in $(2+1)$ gravity coupled to nonlinear electrodynamics. First it is determined the general form of the electromagnetic field tensor in $(2+1)$ gravity coupled to nonlinear electrodynamics in stationary cyclic spacetimes. Secondly, it is determined a family of exact solutions in $(2+1)$ gravity sourced by a nonlinear electromagnetic field. The solutions are characterized by five parameters: mass $M$, angular momentum $J$, cosmological constant $Λ$ and two electromagnetic charges, $q_α$ and $q_β$. Remarkably, the solution can be interpreted as a traversable …
We derive the equations for the odd and even parity perturbations of coupled electromagnetic and gravitational fields of a black hole with an electric charge within the context of general nonlinear electrodynamics. The Lagrangian density is a generic function of the Lorentz invariant scalar quantities of the electromagnetic fields. We include the Hodge dual of the electromagnetic field tensor and the cosmological constant in our calculations. For each type of parity, we reduce the system of Einstein field equations coupled to nonlinear electrodynamics to two coupled Schrödinger-type wave equat…
We study the wave propagation in nonlinear electrodynamical models. Particular attention is paid to the derivation and the analysis of the Fresnel equation for the wave covectors. For the class of general nonlinear Lagrangian models, we demonstrate how the originally quartic Fresnel equation factorizes, yielding the generic birefringence effect. We show that the closure of the effective constitutive (or jump) tensor is necessary and sufficient for the absence of birefringence, i.e., for the existence of a unique light cone structure. As another application of the Fresnel approach, we analyze t…
Recently, the inverse electrodynamics model (IEM) was introduced and applied to fined Reissner-Nordström black holes in the context of the general relativity coupled minimally with the nonlinear electrodynamics \cite{1}. The solution consists of both electric and magnetic fields as of the dyonic solutions. Here in this note, we show that the IEM model belongs to a more general class of nonlinear electrodynamics with $T=T_{μ}^{μ}=0$. Here $T_{μ}^{ν}$ is the energy-momentum tensor of the nonlinear electrodynamic Lagrangian. Naturally, such a dyonic RN black hole solution is the solution for this…
In this paper, we construct thin-shell wormholes by applying the cut and paste procedure to a regular charged black hole in nonlinear electrodynamics field. We discuss different physical aspects of wormholes such as, the possible equation of state to matter shell, attractive or repulsive nature of wormhole and total amount of exotic matter required. The thin-shell equation of motion with and without cosmological constant is also investigated under linearized perturbation. Finally, we explore the stability regions interpreted by the parameter $β$ (speed of sound) and conclude that there are rea…
The new version of the gedanken experiments proposed by Sorce and Wald are designed to test the validity of the weak cosmic censorship conjecture (WCCC) by overspinning or overcharging the Kerr-Newman black hole in Einstein-Maxwell gravity. Following their setup, in this paper, we investigate the WCCC in the higher-dimensional charged black hole with a nonlinear electrodynamics source. We derive the first and seconder order perturbation inequalities of the charged collision matter based on the Iyer-Wald formalism as well as the null energy conditions, and show that they share the similar form …
In this report the exact rotating charged black hole solution to the Einstein--nonlinear electrodynamics theory with a cosmological constant is presented. This black hole is equipped with mass, rotation parameter, electric and magnetic charges, cosmological constant $Λ$, and three parameters due to the nonlinear electrodynamics: $β$ is associated to the potential vectors $A_μ$ and ${}^{\star}P_μ$, and two constants, $F_0$ and $G_0$, due to the presence of the invariants $F$ and $G$ in the Lagrangian $L(F(\,x^μ),G(\,x^μ))$. This solution is of Petrov type D, characterized by the Weyl tensor eig…
In this paper, we present the analytic solution for Anti-de Sitter-Nonlinear electrodynamics (AdS-NED) black hole in four dimensions. We study tunneling of vector particles from the AdS-NED black hole to find Hawking temperature as well as its thermodynamical properties in usual and extended phase space. Then we explore the properties of pressure-volume criticality by analyzing the phase diagram and its free energy. Finally, we investigate the Joule-Thomson coefficient, in which the inversion curve of warming and cooling are studied, and the ratio between the inverse temperature and critical t…
Along the last decades, several regular black hole (BH) solutions, i.e., singularity-free BHs, have been proposed and associated to nonlinear electrodynamics models minimally coupled to general relativity. Within this context, it is of interest to study how those nonlinear-electrodynamic-based regular BHs (RBHs) would interact with their astrophysical environment. We investigate the propagation of a massless test scalar field in the background of an electrically charged RBH solution, obtained by Eloy Ayón-Beato and Alberto García. Using a numerical approach, we compute the absorption cross sec…
We investigate the Plebański class of electrodynamical theories, i.e., theories of nonlinear vacuum electrodynamics that derive from a Lorentz-invariant Lagrangian (or Hamiltonian). In any such theory the light rays are the lightlike geodesics of two optical metrics that depend on the electromagnetic background field. A set of necessary and sufficient conditions is found whose fulfillment secures that the optical metrics are causal in the sense that the light rays are lightlike or timelike with respect to the underlying space-time metric. Thereupon we derive conditions on the Lagrangian, or th…
The fields of rapidly moving sources are studied within nonlinear electrodynamics by boosting the fields of sources at rest. As a consequence of the ultrarelativistic limit the delta-like electromagnetic shock waves are found. The character of the field within the shock depends on the theory of nonlinear electrodynamics considered. In particular, we obtain the field of an ultrarelativistic charge in the Born-Infeld theory.
Using a nonlinear electrodynamics coupled to General Relativity a new regular exact black hole solution is found. The nonlinear theory reduces to the Maxwell one in the weak limit, and the solution corresponds to a charged black hole for |q| \leq 2s_c m \approx 1.05 m, with metric, curvature invariants, and electric field regular everywhere.
We study quasinormal modes related to gravitational and electromagnetic perturbations of spherically symmetric charged black holes in nonlinear electrodynamics. Beyond the linear Maxwell electrodynamics, we consider a class of Lagrangian with higher-order corrections written by the electromagnetic field strength and its Hodge dual with arbitrary coefficients, and we parametrize the corrections for quasinormal frequencies in terms of the coefficients. It is confirmed that the isospectrality of quasinormal modes under parity is generally violated due to nonlinear electrodynamics. As applications…
We obtain the characteristic equation for the nonlinear Born-Infeld electrodynamics. This equation has the form of the characteristic equation for the linear electrodynamics in some effective Riemann space. The effective metric include the energy-momentum tensor components of electromagnetic field. We study a distortion of light beams by the action of some distant solitons. This distortion corresponds to attraction with the solitons and looks like the gravitational distortion.
In the context of the dRGT massive gravity coupled with nonlinear electrodynamics, we present new dRGT black hole solutions. Together with the thermodynamical properties of the solutions, we study the greybody factor of the corresponding black hole solution. To this end, we compute the rigorous bound on the greybody factor for the obtained dRGT black holes. The obtained results are graphically represented for different values of the theory's physical parameters. Our analysis shows that the charged dRGT black holes of nonlinear electrodynamics evaporate quicker than the charged dRGT black holes…
We investigate systematically the effect of the nonlinear correction to the usual Maxwell electrodynamics on the holographic dual models in the backgrounds of AdS black hole and AdS soliton. Considering three types of typical nonlinear electrodynamics, we observe that in the black hole background the higher nonlinear electrodynamics correction makes the condensation harder to form and changes the expected relation in the gap frequency, which is similar to that caused by the curvature correction. However, in strong contrast to the influence of the curvature correction, we find that in the AdS s…
Bekenstein and Mayo proposed a generalised bound for the entropy, which implies some inequalities between the charge, energy, angular momentum, and the size of the macroscopic system. Dain has shown that Maxwell's electrodynamics satisfies all three inequalities. We investigate the validity of these relations in the context of nonlinear electrodynamics and show that Born-Infeld electrodynamics satisfies all of them. However, contrary to the linear theory, there is no rigidity statement in Born-Infeld. We study the physical meaning and the relationship between these inequalities and, in particu…
The electric and magnetic black hole solutions are found by coupling the recently introduced nonlinear electrodynamics (NED) model, called "double logharitmic nonlinear electrodynamics" with cosmological Einstein gravity. The solutions become Reissner-Nordstrom (RN) black hole in the weak field limit and asymptotically. The electric solution is expressed as an integral equation while the magnetic black hole solution is expressed in terms of elementary functions. Hence, the thermodynamic structure of the magnetic black hole solution is analyzed by deriving the modified Smarr's formula and study…
A new dyonic solution for black holes with spherically symmetric configurations in general relativity is obtained. We study black holes possessing electric and magnetic charges, and the source of the gravitational field is electromagnetic fields obeying the logarithmic electrodynamics. This particular form of nonlinear electrodynamics is of interest because of its simplicity. Corrections to Coulomb's law and Reissner-Nordstrom solution are found. We calculate the Hawking temperature of black holes and show that second-order phase transitions occur for some parameters of the model.
The low-energy limits of the string theory lead to the higher-order curvature corrections for Einstein gravity. Also, they give the higher-order derivative corrections for the Maxwell or linear electrodynamics, which suggests the nonlinear electrodynamics. Inspired by this, in this paper we investigate $d$-dimensional holographic superconductors in the probe limit in the framework of Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity and exponential nonlinear electrodynamics. Based on the Sturm-Liouville eigenvalue method, we compute the critical temperature, the condensation value, and the critical exponent. It i…
