The famous hoop conjecture by Thorne has been claimed to be\ violated in curved spacetimes coupled to linear electrodynamics. Hod \cite{Hod:2018} has recently refuted this claim by clarifying the status and validity of the conjecture appropriately interpreting the gravitational mass parameter $M$. However, it turns out that partial violations of the conjecture might seemingly occur also in the well known regular curved spacetimes of gravity coupled to \textit{nonlinear electrodynamic}s. Using the interpretation of $M$ in a generic form accommodating nonlinear electrodynamic coupling, we illustrate a novel extension that the hoop conjecture is \textit{not} violated even in such curved spacetimes. We introduce a Hod function summarizing the hoop conjecture and find that it surprisingly encapsulates the transition regimes between "horizon and no horizon" across the critical values determined essentially by the concerned curved geometries.
We study the condition of black hole formation in five-dimensional space-time. We analytically solve the constraint equations of five-dimensional Einstein equations for momentarily static and conformally flat initial data of a spheroidal mass. We numerically search for an apparent horizon in various initial hypersurfaces and find both necessary and sufficient conditions for the horizon formation in terms of inequalities relating a geometric quantity and a mass defined in an appropriate manner. In the case of infinitely thin spheroid, our results suggest a possibility of naked singularity forma…
We show that four-dimensional Lorentzian metrics admitting a global spacelike Lie group of isometries, $G_{1}={\mathbb R}$, which obey the Einstein equations for vacuum and certain types of matter, cannot contain apparent horizons. The assumed global isometry allows for the dimensional reduction of the (3+1) system to a (2+1) picture, wherein the four-dimensional metric fields act formally as matter fields. A theorem by Ida allows one to check for the absence of apparent horizons in the dimensionally reduced spacetime, with the four-dimensional results following from the topological product na…

Several traversable wormholes (T-WHs) of the Morris-Thorne type have been presented as exact solutions of Einstein-nonlinear electrodynamics gravity (GR-NLED), e.g. \cite{Arellano2009, Bronnikov2018,Bronnikov_Walia2021, Canate_Breton2018, Canate_Breton_Ortiz2020, Canate_Magos_Breton2020}. However, none of these solutions is support by a nonlinear electrodynamics model satisfying plausible conditions. In this work, we present the first traversable wormhole solution of Einstein-nonlinear electrodynamics gravity coupled to a self-interacting phantom scalar field (GR-NLED-SF) with a NLED model suc…
We investigate $4D$ Einstein-Gauss-bonnet gravity coupled to exponential electrodynamics in AdS background and found a static, spherically symmetric exact black hole solution. The horizon structure of black hole is discussed. Treating the cosmological constant as pressure, we drive first law of black hole thermodynamics in extended phase space. We compute the electrostatic potential and vacuum polarization of the black hole. To study local thermodynamical stability specific heat of the black hole is computed. Finally, we study Helmholtz free energy to analyse the global stability of black hole…
We consider a Lemaitre - Tolman - Bondi type space-time in Einstein gravity with the Gauss-Bonnet combination of quadratic curvature terms, and present exact solution in closed form. It turns out that the presence of the coupling constant of the Gauss-Bonnet terms alpha > 0 completely changes the causal structure of the singularities from the analogous general relativistic case. The gravitational collapse of inhomogeneous dust in the five-dimensional Gauss-Bonnet extended Einstein equations leads to formation of a massive, but weak, timelike singularity which is forbidden in general relativity…
The first exact rotating charged black hole solution to the Einstein{nonlinear electrodynamics theory is reported. It is equipped with mass, rotation parameter, electric and magnetic charges, and three parameters due to the electrodynamics: beta is associated to the potential vectors A{mu} and starP{nu}, and two constants, F0 and G0, related to the presence of the invariants F and G in the Lagrangian L(F;G). This Petrov type D solution is characterized by the Weyl tensor eigenvalue Psi2, the Ricci tensor eigenvalue S = 2Phi(11), and the scalar curvature R; it allows for event horizons, exhibit…
The hoop conjecture, introduced by Thorne almost five decades ago, asserts that black holes are characterized by the mass-to-circumference relation $4π{\cal M}/{\cal C}\geq1$, whereas horizonless compact objects are characterized by the opposite inequality $4π{\cal M}/{\cal C}<1$ (here ${\cal C}$ is the circumference of the smallest ring that can engulf the self-gravitating compact object in all azimuthal directions). It has recently been proved that a necessary condition for the validity of this conjecture in horizonless spacetimes of spatially regular charged compact objects is that the mass…
Modified by a logarithmic term, the non-linear electrodynamics (NED) model of the Born-Infeld (BI) action is reconsidered. Unlike the standard BI action, this choice provides interesting integrals of the Einstein-NED equations. It is found that the spherical matching process for a regular black hole entails indispensable surface stresses that vanish only for a specific value of the BI parameter. This solution represents a classical model of an elementary particle whose radius coincides with the horizon. In flat space time, a charged particle becomes a conducting shell with a radius proportiona…
According to the Einstein, Weinberg, and Møller energy-momentum complexes, we evaluate the energy distribution of the singularity-free solution of the Einstein field equations coupled to a suitable nonlinear electrodynamics suggested by Ayón-Beato and García. The results show that the energy associated with the definitions of Einstein and Weinberg are the same, but Møller not. Using the power series expansion, we find out that the first two terms in the expression are the same as the energy distributions of the Reissner-Nordström solution, and the third term could be used to survey the factual…
In this report the exact rotating charged black hole solution to the Einstein--nonlinear electrodynamics theory with a cosmological constant is presented. This black hole is equipped with mass, rotation parameter, electric and magnetic charges, cosmological constant $Λ$, and three parameters due to the nonlinear electrodynamics: $β$ is associated to the potential vectors $A_μ$ and ${}^{\star}P_μ$, and two constants, $F_0$ and $G_0$, due to the presence of the invariants $F$ and $G$ in the Lagrangian $L(F(\,x^μ),G(\,x^μ))$. This solution is of Petrov type D, characterized by the Weyl tensor eig…
A study about the energy and momentum distributions of a new charged regular black hole solution with a nonlinear electrodynamics source is presented. The energy and momentum are calculated using the Einstein and Møller energy-momentum complexes. The results show that in both pseudotensorial prescriptions the expressions for the energy of the gravitational background depend on the mass $M$ and the charge $q$ of the black hole, an additional factor $β$ coming from the spacetime metric considered, and the radial coordinate $r$, while in both prescriptions all the momenta vanish. Further, it is p…
In this paper, we are considering two first order corrections to both gravity and gauge sides of the Einstein-Maxwell gravity: Gauss-Bonnet gravity and quadratic Maxwell invariant as corrections. We obtain horizonless magnetic solutions by implying a metric which representing a topological defect. We analyze the geometric properties of the solutions and investigate the effects of both corrections, and find that these solutions may be interpreted as the magnetic branes. We study the singularity condition and find a nonsingular spacetime with a conical geometry. We also investigate the effects o…
We present a novel, exact, traversable wormhole (T-WH) solution for $(3+1)$-dimensional Einstein-scalar-Gauss-Bonnet theory (EsGB) coupled to a power-Maxwell nonlinear electrodynamics (NLED). The solution is characterized by two parameters, $\mathcal{Q}\!_{\rm e}$ and $\mathcal{Q}\!_{_{ \mathcal{S} }}$, associated respectively with the electromagnetic field and the scalar field. We show that for $\mathcal{Q}^2_{\rm e} - \mathcal{Q}\!_{_{ \mathcal{S} }}>0$ the solution can be interpreted as a traversable wormhole. In the general case, with non-vanishing electromagnetic field, the scalar-Gauss-B…
In this paper we present two results in $(2+1)$ gravity coupled to nonlinear electrodynamics. First it is determined the general form of the electromagnetic field tensor in $(2+1)$ gravity coupled to nonlinear electrodynamics in stationary cyclic spacetimes. Secondly, it is determined a family of exact solutions in $(2+1)$ gravity sourced by a nonlinear electromagnetic field. The solutions are characterized by five parameters: mass $M$, angular momentum $J$, cosmological constant $Λ$ and two electromagnetic charges, $q_α$ and $q_β$. Remarkably, the solution can be interpreted as a traversable …
The "black-bounce" spacetime geometries, were recently proposed in [A. Simpson, M. Visser, JCAP 02 (2019) 042] as regular black holes that bouncing into a future incarnation of the universe. In this work we will present several black-bounce exact solutions of General Relativity. Among them is a novel type of black-bounce solutions, which in contrast of the Simpson-Visser type [A. Simpson, M. Visser, JCAP 02 (2019) 042], do not have the Ellis wormhole metric as a particular case. The source of these solutions are linear superposition of phantom scalar fields and nonlinear electromagnetic fields…
It is argued that in the paper by A.A. Garcia-Diaz and G. Gutierrez-Cano [Phys. Rev. D 100, 064068 (2019)] on nonlinear electrodynamics coupled to general relativity, along with some interesting results and useful observations, many statements are either inaccurate or incomplete. In particular, the authors only consider solutions with an electric charge, whereas their magnetic counterparts have features of equal interest, both similar to and different from those of electric ones. Moreover, it is not mentioned that in electric solutions with a regular center the Lagrangian function $L(f)$ ($f =…
We explore the cosmic censorship in the Einstein-Maxwell-dilaton theory following Wald's thought experiment to destroy a black hole by throwing in a test particle. We discover that at probe limit the extremal charged dilaton black hole could be destroyed by a test particle with specific energy. Nevertheless the censorship is well protected if backreaction or self-force is included. At the end, we discuss an interesting connection between Hoop Conjecture and Weak Gravity Conjecture.
The three-dimensional static and circularly symmetric solution of the Einstein-Born-Infeld-dilaton system is derived. The solutions corresponding to low energy string theory are investigated in detail, which include black hole solutions if the cosmological constant is negative and the mass parameter exceeds a certain critical value. Some differences between the Born-Infeld nonlinear electrodynamics and the Maxwell electrodynamics are revealed.
In this work a study about the energy-momentum of a new four-dimensional spherically symmetric, static and charged, regular black hole solution developed in the context of general relativity coupled to nonlinear electrodynamics is presented. Asymptotically, this new black hole solution behaves as the Reissner-Nordström solution only for the particular value μ=4, where μ is a positive integer parameter appearing in the mass function of the solution. The calculations are performed by use of the Einstein, Landau-Lifshitz, Weinberg and Møller energy-momentum complexes. In all the aforesaid prescri…
We modify the Einstein-Schrodinger theory to include a cosmological constant $Λ_z$ which multiplies the symmetric metric, and we show how the theory can be easily coupled to additional fields. The cosmological constant $Λ_z$ is assumed to be nearly cancelled by Schrodinger's cosmological constant $Λ_b$ which multiplies the nonsymmetric fundamental tensor, such that the total $Λ=Λ_z+Λ_b$ matches measurement. The resulting theory becomes exactly Einstein-Maxwell theory in the limit as $|Λ_z|\to\infty$. For $|Λ_z|\sim 1/(Planck length)^2$ the field equations match the ordinary Einstein and Maxwel…
Super-entropic black holes possess finite-area but noncompact event horizons and violate the reverse isoperimetric inequality. It has been conjectured that such black holes always have negative specific heat at constant volume $C_{V}$ or negative specific heat at constant pressure $C_{P}$ whenever $C_{V}>0$, making them unstable in extended thermodynamics. In this paper, we test this instability conjecture on a family of nonlinear electrodynamics black holes, namely $3$D Einstein-Born-Infeld (EBI) AdS black holes. Our results show that when nonlinear electrodynamics effects are weak, the insta…
In this report, the regularity conditions at the center for static spherically symmetric (SSS) solutions of the Einstein equations coupled to nonlinear electrodynamics (NLE) with Lagrangian $\mathcal{L}= \mathcal{L}(\mathcal{F})$, depending on the electromagnetic invariant $\mathcal{F}=F_{μν}\,F^{μν}/4$, are established. The traceless Ricci (TR) tensor eigenvalue $S$, the Weyl tensor eigenvalue $Ψ_2$ and the scalar curvature $R$ characterize the independent Riemman tensor invariants of SSS metrics. The necessary and sufficient regularity conditions for electric NLE SSS solutions require $\lim_…
Riemannian and teleparallel geometrical approaches to the investigation of Maxwell electrodynamics shown that a unified field theory of gravitation and electromagnetism a la Einstein can be obtained from a stationary metric. This idea contrasts with the recently proposed pre-metric electrodynamics by Hehl and Obukhov. In the teleparallel case the definition of the electric field is obtained straightforward from the spacetime metric and the orthonormal basis frame of teleparallelism. In this case the only nonvanishing component of Cartan torsion is defined as the effective electric field. In th…
We introduce a class of solutions in $2+1-$dimensional Einstein-Power-Maxwell theory for circularly symmetric electric field. The electromagnetic field is considered with an angular component given by $% F_{μν}=E_{0}δ_{μ}^{t}δ_{ν}^{θ}$ for $E_{0}=$ constant. First, we show that the metric for zero cosmological constant and the Power-Maxwell Lagrangian of the form of $\sqrt{\left\vert F_{μν}F^{μν}\right\vert }$, coincides with the solution given in $2+1-$% dimensional gravity coupled with a massless, self interacting real scalar field. With the same Lagrangian and a non-zero cosmological consta…
We construct spherically symmetric thin-shell wormholes supported by a generalized Chaplygin gas in Born-Infeld electrodynamics coupled to Einstein gravity, and we analyze their stability under radial perturbations. For different values of the Born-Infeld parameter and the charge, we compare the results with those obtained in a previous work for Maxwell electrodynamics. The stability region in the parameter space reduces and then disappears as the value of the Born-Infeld parameter is modified in the sense of a larger departure from Maxwell theory.
A solution for the Einstein gravity coupled with non linear electrodynamics is introduced in 2+1 dimensions. Especially, in the case with a non-vanishing cosmological constant, we obtain a novel black hole solution. To find fundamental characters of the solution, radial null rays in the space-time described by the solution are investigated.
It will be shown that a given realization of nonlinear electrodynamics, used as source of Einstein's equations, generates a cosmological model with interesting features, namely a phase of current cosmic acceleration, and the absence of an initial singularity, thus pointing to a way to solve two important problems in cosmology.
The new version of the gedanken experiments proposed by Sorce and Wald are designed to test the validity of the weak cosmic censorship conjecture (WCCC) by overspinning or overcharging the Kerr-Newman black hole in Einstein-Maxwell gravity. Following their setup, in this paper, we investigate the WCCC in the higher-dimensional charged black hole with a nonlinear electrodynamics source. We derive the first and seconder order perturbation inequalities of the charged collision matter based on the Iyer-Wald formalism as well as the null energy conditions, and show that they share the similar form …
In this paper, we consider quadratic Maxwell invariant as a correction to the Maxwell theory and study thermodynamic behavior of the black holes in Einstein and Gauss-Bonnet gravities. We consider cosmological constant as a thermodynamic pressure to extend phase space. Next, we obtain critical values in case of variation of nonlinearity and Gauss-Bonnet parameters. Although the general thermodynamical behavior of the black hole solutions is the same as usual Van der Waals system, we show that in special case of the nonlinear electromagnetic field, there will be a turning point for the phase di…
In this article, we construct exact black hole solutions with many horizons (more than number two) in the Einstein-nonlinear electrodynamic theories. In particular, we acquire the explicit expression of nonlinear electrodynamic Lagrangian for the 3-horizon black holes. Then we make the investigations of 3-horizon black holes on the horizons, the null and timelike geodesics, the Love numbers and the thermodynamics.
We describe a class of unified theories of electromagnetism and gravity. The Lagrangian is of the BF type, with a potential for the B-field, the gauge group is U(2) (complexified). Given a choice of the potential function the theory is a deformation of (complex) general relativity and electromagnetism, and describes just two propagating polarisations of the graviton and two of the photon. When gravity is switched off the theory becomes the usual non-linear electrodynamics with a general structure function. The Einstein-Maxwell theory can be recovered by sending some of the parameters of the de…
Using a modified expression for the electric potential in the context of T-duality (Gaete and Nicolini, Phys. Lett. B, 2022) we obtain an exact charged solution within 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (4D EGB) theory of gravity in the presence of a cosmological constant. We show that the solution exists in the regularized 4D EGB theory as well and we point out a correspondence between the black hole solution in 4D EGB theory and the solution in the non-relativistic Horava--Lifshitz theory. The black hole solution is regular and free from singularity and as a special case we recover a class of well-kno…
The Hayward metric is a spherically symmetric charged regular black holes, a modification of the Reisnner-Nordstr$\ddot{o}$m black holes of Einstein's equations coupled to nonlinear electrodynamics. We consider Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity (EGB) coupled to nonlinear electrodynamics to present an exact five dimension ($5D$) Hayward black holes with a regular center, having inner (Cauchy) and outer (event) horizons which go over to Boulware-Desser black holes when the charge is switched off ($e=0$). The presence of charge $e$ leads the modification in thermodynamical quantities, and it has also…

Motivated by possible applications within the framework of anti-de Sitter gravity/Conformal Field Theory (AdS/CFT) correspondence, charged black holes with AdS asymptotics, which are solutions to Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity in D dimensions, and whose electric field is described by a nonlinear electrodynamics (NED) are studied. For a topological static black hole ansatz, the field equations are exactly solved in terms of the electromagnetic stress tensor for an arbitrary NED Lagrangian, in any dimension D and for arbitrary positive values of Gauss-Bonnet coupling. In particular, this procedur…
Maxwell electrodynamics, considered as a source of the classical Einstein field equations, leads to the singular isotropic Friedmann solutions. We show that this singular behavior does not occur for a class of nonlinear generalizations of the electromagnetic theory. A mathematical toy model is proposed for which the analytical nonsingular extension of FRW solutions is obtained.
In this paper we review some properties for the evolving wormhole solution of Einstein equations coupled with nonlinear electrodynamics. We integrate the geodesic equations in the effective geometry obeyed by photons; we check out the weak field limit and find the traversability conditions. Then we analyze the case when the lagrangian depends on two electromagnetic invariants and it turns out that there is not a more general solution within the assumed geometry.
We discuss how to generate a black hole solution of the Einstein Equations (EE) via non-linear electrodynamics (NED). We discuss the thermodynamical properties of a general NED solution, recovering the First Law. Then we illustrate the general mechanism and discuss some specific cases, showing that finding a generating Lagrangian (for a specific solution) only requires solving an algebraic equation (we study some analytical cases). Finally, we argue that NED paradigm, though self-consistent, is not the best tool for studying regular black holes.
We study influence of scalar fields on Nonlinear Electrodynamics spacetimes. The investigation is carried out using both test and gravitating scalar fields. After revisiting Einstein-Maxwell scalar field solutions we focus on analytic investigation of Nonlinear Electrodynamics scalar field spacetimes, especially Square Root Lagrangian model. The main motivation being to understand whether certain specific signatures of scalar fields are preserved when Nonlinear Electrodynamics as an additional source is considered. We show that the regularity of horizon which is spoiled by scalar field in sphe…
We obtain an exact spherically symmetric and magnetically charged black hole solution in 4D Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet gravity coupled with nonlinear electrodynamics with the Lagrangian ${\cal L}_{NED} = -{\cal F}/(1+\sqrt{2\midβ{\cal F}\mid})$ (${\cal F}$ is the field strength invariant). The thermodynamics of the black hole is studied within our model. We calculate the Hawking temperature and the heat capacity of the black hole. The phase transitions occur in the point where the Hawking temperature possesses an extremum and the heat capacity diverges. It was shown that black holes are thermodynam…
We obtain an exact solution of $AdS$ black hole solution in Einstein-Gauss-Bonnet (EGB) gravity coupled with nonlinear electrodynamics. It interpolates with the $AdS$ regular black hole and $AdS$ EGB black hole in the absence of the Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant and both magnetic monopole charge and deviation parameter, respectively. Based on horizon thermodynamics, we study the thermodynamic properties of the obtained solution (e.g. mass, temperature, entropy, heat capacity and free energy). The Hawking temperature of the nonsingular black hole gets the maximum value at the point where speci…
We discuss the solution to Einstein's equations for a Lense-Thirring inspired metric describing a slowly rotating black hole coupled to nonlinear electrodynamics. We show that different schemes of rotation for the black hole exist; they depend on a parameter $γ$ defining the dependence of the metric on the polar angle. The fulfilment of the complete set of gravitational field equations and conservation laws implies constraints on this parameter and the metric functions. The vanishing of $γ$ provides the Lense-Thirring line element associated to any non-linear electrodynamics; the Kerr-Newman m…
The energy distributions for a black hole solution resulting from coupling electrodynamics and gravity in 2+1 dimensions are obtained. This solution considers the correction for a 2+1 static charged black hole from the first contribution of the weak field limit of one loop QED in 2+1 dimensions. The Einstein and Moller energy-momentum prescriptions are used to evaluate the energy distributions associated with the mentioned 2+1 dimensional black hole and other 2+1 black hole solutions coupled with nonlinear electrodynamics. A relation that connects the coefficients of both prescriptions is esta…
We explore the possibility of dynamic wormhole geometries, within the context of nonlinear electrodynamics. The Einstein field equation imposes a contracting wormhole solution and the obedience of the weak energy condition. Furthermore, in the presence of an electric field, the latter presents a singularity at the throat, however, for a pure magnetic field the solution is regular. Thus, taking into account the principle of finiteness, that a satisfactory theory should avoid physical quantities becoming infinite, one may rule out evolving wormhole solutions, in the presence of an electric field…
The nonlinear Maxwell Lagrangian preserving both conformal and SO(2) duality-rotation invariance has been introduced very recently. Here, in the context of Einstein's theory of gravity minimally coupled with this nonlinear electrodynamics, we obtain a black hole solution which is the Reissner-Nordström black hole with one additional parameter that is coming from the nonlinear theory. We employ the causality and unitarity principles to identify an upper bound for this free parameter. The effects of this parameter on the physical properties of the black hole solution are investigated.
In 1936 Einstein predicted the phenomenon presently known as gravitational lensing (GL). A prime feature of GL is the magnification, because of the gravitational field, of the star visible surface as seen from a distant observer. We show here that nonlinear electrodynamics (NLED) modifies in a fundamental basis Einstein's general relativistic (GR) original derivation. The effect becomes apparent by studying the light propagation from a strongly magnetic ($B$) pulsar (SMP). Unlike its GR counterpart, the photon dynamics in NLED leads to a new effective GL, which depends also on the $B$-field pe…
