We propose a Recursive Polynomial Generic Construction (RPGC) of multiplication algorithms in any finite field $\mathbb{F}_{q^n}$ based on the method of D.V. and G.V. Chudnovsky specialized on the projective line. They are usual polynomial interpolation algorithms in small extensions and the Karatsuba algorithm is seen as a particular case of this construction. Using an explicit family of such algorithms, we show that their bilinear complexity is quasi-linear with respect to the extension degree n, and we give a uniform bound for this complexity. We also prove that the construction of these algorithms is deterministic and can be done in polynomial time. We give an asymptotic bound for the complexity of their construction.
We propose several constructions for the original multiplication algorithm of D.V. and G.V. Chudnovsky in order to improve its scalar complexity. We highlight the set of generic strategies who underlay the optimization of the scalar complexity, according to parameterizable criteria. As an example, we apply this analysis to the construction of type elliptic Chudnovsky$^2$ multiplication algorithms for small extensions. As a case study, we significantly improve the Baum-Shokrollahi construction for multiplication in $\mathbb F_{256}/\mathbb F_4$.
The Chudnovsky and Chudnovsky algorithm for the multiplication in extensions of finite fields provides a bilinear complexity which is uniformly linear whith respect to the degree of the extension. Recently, Randriambololona has generalized the method, allowing asymmetry in the interpolation procedure and leading to new upper bounds on the bilinear complexity. We describe the effective algorithm of this asymmetric method, without derivated evaluation. Finally, we give examples with the finite field $\F_{16^{13}}$ using only rational places, $\F_{4^{13}}$ using also places of degree two and $\F_…
We indicate a strategy in order to construct bilinear multiplication algorithms of type Chudnovsky in large extensions of any finite field. In particular, by using the symmetric version of the generalization of Randriambololona specialized on the elliptic curves, we show that it is possible to construct such algorithms with low bilinear complexity. More precisely, if we only consider the Chudnovsky-type algorithms of type symmetric elliptic, we show that the symmetric bilinear complexity of these algorithms is in $O(n(2q)^{\log_q^*(n)})$ where $n$ corresponds to the extension degree, and $\log…
Thanks to a new construction of the so-called Chudnovsky-Chudnovsky multiplication algorithm, we design efficient algorithms for both the exponentiation and the multiplication in finite fields. They are tailored to hardware implementation and they allow computations to be parallelized while maintaining a low number of bilinear multiplications. We give an example with the finite field ${\mathbb F}_{16^{13}}$.
In this paper, we obtain new bounds for the tensor rank of multiplication in any extension of $\F_2$. In particular, it also enables us to obtain the best known asymptotic bound. In this aim, we use the generalized algorithm of type Chudnovsky with derivative evaluations on places of degree one, two and four applied on the descent over $\F_2$ of a Garcia-Stichtenoth tower of algebraic function fields defined over $\F_{2^4}$.
We obtain new asymptotical bounds for the symmetric tensor rank of multiplication in any finite extension of any finite field $\F_q$. In this aim, we use the symmetric Chudnovsky-type generalized algorithm applied on a family of Shimura modular curves defined over $\F_{q^2}$ attaining the Drinfeld-Vladut bound and on the descent of this family over the definition field $\F_q$.
We give new improvements to the Chudnovsky-Chudnovsky method that provides upper bounds on the bilinear complexity of multiplication in extensions of finite fields through interpolation on algebraic curves. Our approach features three independent key ingredients: (1) We allow asymmetry in the interpolation procedure. This allows to prove, via the usual cardinality argument, the existence of auxiliary divisors needed for the bounds, up to optimal degree. (2) We give an alternative proof for the existence of these auxiliary divisors, which is constructive, and works also in the symmetric case, a…
Let X be an algebraic curve, defined over a perfect field, and G a divisor on X. If X has sufficiently many points, we show how to construct a divisor D on X such that l(2D-G)=0, of essentially any degree such that this is compatible the Riemann-Roch theorem. We also generalize this construction to the case of a finite number of constraints, l(k_i.D-G_i)=0, where |k_i|\leq 2. Such a result was previously claimed by Shparlinski-Tsfasman-Vladut, in relation with the Chudnovsky-Chudnovsky method for estimating the bilinear complexity of the multiplication in finite fields based on interpolation o…
Let X be a smooth projective toric surface and L and M two line bundles on X. If L is ample and M is generated by global sections, then we show that the natural map from H^0(X,L) tensor H^0(X,M) to H^0(X, L tensor M) is surjective. We also consider a generalization to the case when M is an arbitrary line bundle with h^0(X,M) > 0.
We introduce the concept of multiplication matrices for ideals of projective dimension zero. We discuss various applications and in particular, we give a new algorithm to compute the variety of an ideal of projective dimension zero.
We construct families of Calabi-Yau manifolds with dense set of complex multiplication fibers in an arbitrary dimension. We will also give explicite examples of complex multiplication fibers. For this construction we use families of curves with dense set of complex multiplication fibers. In addition, we give examples of such families for each genus less or equal 7 and we study the generic Hodge groups of families of cyclic covers of the projective line.
We define analogues of homogeneous coordinate algebras for noncommutative two-tori with real multiplication. We prove that the categories of standard holomorphic vector bundles on such noncommutative tori can be described in terms of graded modules over appropriate homogeneous coordinate algebras. We give a criterion for such an algebra to be Koszul and prove that the Koszul dual algebra also comes from some noncommutative two-torus with real multiplication. These results are based on the techniques of math.QA/0211262 allowing to interpret all the data in terms of autoequivalences of the deriv…
In his previous paper (Math. Res. Letters 7(2000), 123--132) the author proved that in characteristic zero the jacobian $J(C)$ of a hyperelliptic curve $C: y^2=f(x)$ has only trivial endomorphisms over an algebraic closure $K_a$ of the ground field $K$ if the Galois group $Gal(f)$ of the irreducible polynomial $f(x) \in K[x]$ is either the symmetric group $S_n$ or the alternating group $A_n$. Here $n>4$ is the degree of $f$. In the next paper (Progress in Math. 195(2001), 473--490) we extended this result to the case of certain``smaller'' Galois groups. In particular, we treated the infinite s…
Let M(d,n) be the moduli stack of hypersurfaces of degree d > n in the complex projective n-space, and let M(d,n;1) be the sub-stack, parameterizing hypersurfaces obtained as a d fold cyclic covering of the projective n-1 space, ramified over a hypersurface of degree d. Iterating this construction, one obtains M(d,n;r). We show that M(d,n;1) is rigid in M(d,n), although the Griffiths-Yukawa coupling degenerates for d<2n. On the other hand, for all d>n the sub-stack M(d,n;2) deforms. We calculate the exact length of the Griffiths-Yukawa coupling over M(d,n;r), and we construct a 4-dimensional f…
A $\mathbb{C}^{*}$-action on a projective variety $X$ is said to be of Euler type at a nonsingular fixed point $x$ if the isotropy action of $\mathbb{C}^{*}$ on $T_{x}X$ is by scalar multiplication. In this paper, it's proven that a smooth projective variety of Picard number one $X$ is isomorphic to an irreducible Hermitian symmetric space of tube type if and only if for a general pair of points $x,y$ on $X$, there exists a $\mathbb{C}^{*}$-action on $X$ which is of Euler type at $x$ and its inverse action is of Euler type at $y$.
We prove that in characteristic zero the multiplication of sections of dominant line bundles on a complete symmetric variety $X=\bar{G/H}$ is a surjective map. As a consequence the cone defined by a complete linear system over $X$, or over a closed $G$ stable subvariety of $X$ is normal. This gives an affirmative answer to a question raised by Faltings. A crucial point of the proof is a combinatorial property of root systems.
We provide an explicit algorithm to compute a Massey triple product relative to a defining system for a smooth projective plane curve $X$ defined by a homogeneous polynomial $G(\underline x)$ over a field. The main idea is to use the description (due to Carlson and Griffiths) of the cup product for $H^1(X,\mathbb{C})$ in terms of the multiplications inside the Jacobian ring of $G(\underline x)$ and the Cech-deRham complex of $X$. Our algorithm gives a criterion whether a Massey triple product vanishes or not in $H^2(X)$ under a particular non-trivial defining system of the Massey triple produc…
We prove that the multiplication of sections of globally generated line bundles on a model wonderful variety M of simply connected type is always surjective. This follows by a general argument which works for every wonderful variety and reduces the study of the surjectivity for every couple of globally generated line bundles to a finite number of cases. As a consequence, the cone defined by a complete linear system over M or over a closed G-stable subvariety of M is normal. We apply these results to the study of the normality of the compactifications of model varieties in simple projective spa…
We study abelian varieties and K3 surfaces with complex multiplication defined over number fields of fixed degree. We show that these varieties fall into finitely many isomorphism classes over an algebraic closure of the field of rational numbers. As an application we confirm finiteness conjectures of Shafarevich and Coleman in the CM case. In addition we prove the uniform boundedness of the Galois invariant subgroup of the geometric Brauer group for forms of a smooth projective variety satisfying the integral Mumford--Tate conjecture. When applied to K3 surfaces, this affirms a conjecture of …
We describe the package "IncidenceCorrespondenceCohomology" for the computer algebra system Macaulay2. The main feature concerns the computation of characters and dimensions for the cohomology groups of line bundles on the incidence correspondence (the partial flag variety parametrizing pairs consisting of a point in projective space and a hyperplane containing it). Additionally, the package provides tools for (1) computing the multiplication in the graded Han-Monsky representation ring, (2) determining the splitting type of vector bundles of principal parts on the projective line, and (3) tes…
The first part of these notes gives an introduction to noncommutative projective geometry after Artin--Zhang. The second part provides an overview of the work of Polishchuk that reconciles noncommutative two-tori having real multiplication with the Artin--Zhang setting.
Let $X$ be genus 2 curve defined over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p$ and let $X\_1$ be its $p$-twist. Let $M\_X$ (resp. $M\_{X\_1}$) be the (coarse) moduli space of semi-stable rank 2 vector bundles with trivial determinant over $X$ (resp. $X\_1$). The moduli space $M\_X$ is isomorphic to the 3-dimensional projective space and is endowed with an action of the group $J[2]$ of order 2 line bundles over $X$. When $3\leq p \leq 7$, we show that the Verschiebung (i.e., the separable part of the action of Frobenius by pull-back) $V : M\_{X\_1} \dashrightarrow M\_X$ is completely…
The zeta function of a K3 surface over a finite field satisfies a number of obvious (archimedean and l-adic) and a number of less obvious (p-adic) constraints. We consider the converse question, in the style of Honda-Tate: given a function Z satisfying all these constraints, does there exist a K3 surface whose zeta-function equals Z? Assuming semi-stable reduction, we show that the answer is yes if we allow a finite extension of the finite field. An important ingredient in the proof is the construction of complex projective K3 surfaces with complex multiplication by a given CM field.
