In this note, we study the asymptotic of spherical integrals, which are analytical extension in index of the normalized Schur polynomials for $β=2$ , and of Jack symmetric polynomials otherwise. Such integrals are the multiplicative counterparts of the Harish-Chandra-Itzykson-Zuber (HCIZ) integrals, whose asymptotic are given by the so-called $R$-transform when one of the matrix is of rank one. We argue by a saddle-point analysis that a similar result holds for all $β>0$ in the multiplicative case, where the asymptotic is governed by the logarithm of the $S$-transform. As a consequence of this result one can calculate the asymptotic behavior of complete homogeneous symmetric polynomials.
The previous supersymmetric generalization of the unitary Harish--Chandra integral prompted the conjecture that the Harish--Chandra formula should extend to all classical supergroups. We prove this conjecture for the unitary orthosymplectic supergroup UOSp(k_1/2k_2). To this end, we construct and solve an eigenvalue equation.
In this paper, we classify all indecomposable Harish-Chandra modules of the intermediate series over the twisted Heisenberg-Virasoro algebra. Meanwhile, some bosonic modules are also studied.
We consider symmetric pairs of Lie superalgebras which are strongly reductive and of even type, and introduce a graded Harish-Chandra homomorphism. We prove that its image is a certain explicit filtered subalgebra of the Weyl invariants on a Cartan subspace whose associated graded is the image of Chevalley's restriction map on symmetric invariants. This generalises results of Harish-Chandra and V. Kac, M. Gorelik.
We reconsider the large $N$ asymptotics of Harish-Chandra-Itzykson-Zuber integrals. We provide, using Dyson's Brownian motion and the method of instantons, an alternative, transparent derivation of the Matytsin formalism for the unitary case. Our method is easily generalized to the orthogonal and symplectic ensembles. We obtain an explicit solution of Matytsin's equations in the case of Wigner matrices, as well as a general expansion method in the dilute limit, when the spectrum of eigenvalues spreads over very wide regions.
The purpose of this paper is to extend the theory of Super Harish-Chandra pairs, originally developed by Koszul for Lie supergroups, to analytic and algebraic supergroups, in order to obtain information also about their representations. We also define the distribution superalgebra for algebraic and analytic supergroups and study its relation with the universal enveloping superalgebra
For any Lie supergroup whose underlying Lie group is reductive, we prove an extension of the Casselman-Wallach globalisation theorem: There is an equivalence between the category of Harish-Chandra modules and the category of SF-representations (smooth Fréchet representations of moderate growth) whose module of finite vectors is Harish-Chandra. As an application, we extend to Lie supergroups a general general form of the Gel'fand-Kazhdan criterion due to Sun-Zhu.
Mathematical physicists have studied degenerations of Lie groups and their representations, which they call contractions. In this paper we study these contractions, and also other families, within the framework of algebraic families of Harish-Chandra modules. We construct a family that incorporates both a real reductive group and its compact form, separate parts of which have been studied individually as contractions. We give a complete classification of generically irreducible families of Harish-Chandra modules in the case of the family associated to SL(2, R).
A notion of generalized highest weight modules over the high rank Virasoro algebras is introduced, and a theorem, which was originally given as a conjecture by Kac over the Virasoro algebra, is generalized. Mainly, we prove that a simple Harish-Chandra module over a high rank Virasoro algebra is either a generalized highest weight module, or a module of the intermediate series.
This expository paper introduces the theory of Harish-Chandra integrals, a family of special functions that express the integral of an exponential function over the adjoint orbits of a compact Lie group. Originally studied in the context of harmonic analysis on Lie algebras, Harish-Chandra integrals now have diverse applications in many areas of mathematics and physics. We review a number of these applications, present several different proofs of Harish-Chandra's celebrated exact formula for the integrals, and give detailed derivations of the specific integral formulae for all compact classica…
We examine from an algebraic point of view some families of unitary group representations that arise in mathematical physics and are associated to contraction families of Lie groups. The contraction families of groups relate different real forms of a reductive group and are continuously parametrized, but the unitary representations are defined over a parameter subspace that includes both discrete and continuous parts. Both finite- and infinite-dimensional representations can occur, even within the same family. We shall study the simplest nontrivial examples, and use the concepts of algebraic f…
Recently the correlation functions of the so-called Itzykson-Zuber/Harish-Chandra integrals were computed (by one of the authors and collaborators) for all classical groups using an integration formula that relates integrals over compact groups with respect to the Haar measure and Gaussian integrals over a maximal nilpotent Lie subalgebra of their complexification. Since the integration formula a posteriori had the same form for the classical series, a conjecture was formulated that such a formula should hold for arbitrary semisimple Lie groups. We prove this conjecture using an abstract Lie-t…
Basic Harish-Chandra series are asymptotically free meromorphic solutions of the system of basic hypergeometric difference equations associated to root systems. The associated connection coefficients are explicitly computed in terms of Jacobi theta functions. We interpret the connection coefficients as the transition functions for asymptotically free meromorphic solutions of Cherednik's root system analogs of the quantum Knizhnik-Zamolodchikov equations. They thus give rise to explicit elliptic solutions of root system analogs of dynamical Yang-Baxter and reflection equations. Applications to …
In this paper, we provide a uniform method to thoroughly classify all Harish-Chandra modules over some Lie algebras related to the Virasoro algebras. We first classify such modules over the Lie algebra $W(\varrho)[s]$ for $s=0,\frac12$. With this result and method, we can also do such works for some Lie algebras and superconformal algebras related to the Virasoro algebra, including the several kinds of Schrödinger-Virasoro Lie algebras, which are open up to now.
We investigate spectral properties of a Hermitised random matrix product which, contrary to previous product ensembles, allows for eigenvalues on the full real line. We prove that the eigenvalues form a bi-orthogonal ensemble, which reduces asymptotically to the Hermite Muttalib-Borodin ensemble. Explicit expressions for the bi-orthogonal functions as well as the correlation kernel are provided. Scaling the latter near the origin gives a limiting kernel involving Meijer G-functions, and the functional form of the global density is calculated. As a part of this study, we introduce a new matrix …
Horn's problem -- to find the support of the spectrum of eigenvalues of the sum $C=A+B$ of two $n$ by $n$ Hermitian matrices whose eigenvalues are known -- has been solved by Knutson and Tao. Here the probability distribution function (PDF) of the eigenvalues of $C$ is explicitly computed for low values of $n$, for $A$ and $B$ uniformly and independently distributed on their orbit, and confronted to numerical experiments. Similar considerations apply to skew-symmetric and symmetric real matrices under the action of the orthogonal group. In the latter case, where no analytic formula is known in…
In this paper, we highlight the role played by orthogonal and symplectic Harish-Chandra integrals in the study of real-valued matrix product ensembles. By making use of these integrals and the matrix-valued Fourier-Laplace transform, we find the explicit eigenvalue distributions for particular Hermitian anti-symmetric matrices and particular Hermitian anti-self dual matrices, involving both sums and products. As a consequence of these results, the eigenvalue probability density function of the random product structure $X_M \cdots X_1( iA) X_1^T \cdots X_M^T$, where each $X_i$ is a standard rea…
The Harish-Chandra correlation functions, i.e. integrals over compact groups of invariant monomials prod tr{X^{p_1} Omega Y^{q_1} Omega^dagger X^{p_2} ... with the weight exp tr{X Omega Y Omega^dagger} are computed for the orthogonal and symplectic groups. We proceed in two steps. First, the integral over the compact group is recast into a Gaussian integral over strictly upper triangular complex matrices (with some additional symmetries), supplemented by a summation over the Weyl group. This result follows from the study of loop equations in an associated two-matrix integral and may be viewed …
We present a new proof of Harish-Chandra's formula $$Π(h_1) Π(h_2) \int_G e^{\langle \mathrm{Ad}_g h_1, h_2 \rangle} dg = \frac{ [ \! [ Π, Π] \!] }{|W|} \sum_{w \in W} ε(w) e^{\langle w(h_1),h_2 \rangle},$$ where $G$ is a compact, connected, semisimple Lie group, $dg$ is normalized Haar measure, $h_1$ and $h_2$ lie in a Cartan subalgebra of the complexified Lie algebra, $Π$ is the discriminant, $\langle \cdot, \cdot \rangle$ is the Killing form, $[ \! [ \cdot, \cdot ] \!]$ is an inner product that extends the Killing form to polynomials, $W$ is a Weyl group, and $ε(w)$ is the sign of $w \in W$…
In this paper we discuss the highest weight $\frak k_r$-finite representations of the pair $(\frak g_r,\frak k_r)$ consisting of $\frak g_r$, a real form of a complex basic Lie superalgebra of classical type $\frak g$ (${\frak g}\neq A(n,n)$), and the maximal compact subalgebra $\frak k_r$ of $\frak g_{r,0}$, together with their geometric global realizations. These representations occur, as in the ordinary setting, in the superspaces of sections of holomorphic super vector bundles on the associated Hermitian superspaces $G_r/K_r$.
