We present an analysis of the starspot evolution, the surface differential rotation (SDR), the correlation between chromospheric activity indicators and the spatial connection between chromospheric and photospheric activities on the active star Kepler-411, using time series photometry over 4 years from Kepler, and spectroscopic data from Keck I 10-m telescope and Lijiang 2.4-m telescope. We constructed the light curve by re-performing photometry and reduction from the Target Pixel Files and Cotrending Basis Vectors with a manually redefined aperture using the software PyKE3. An efficient program, GEMC_LCM, was developed to apply a two-spots model to chosen light curve segments with three spot groups at fixed latitudes (30, 45), (30, 60) and (45, 60). We found a periodic variation of the starspots at period of about 660 days which independs on spot latitudes, and estimated the lower limit of SDR as $P_{\text{eq}} = 9.7810(0.0169)$ days and $α= 0.1016(0.0023)$. Simultaneously, the relative variations of chromospheric activity indicators were derived by subtracting the overall mean spectrum from individual spectrum. It is found that Ca II H and K emissions are strongly correlated with each other, and there also exists a correlation between H$α$ and Ca II H & K emissions, with large dispersion, in accordance with previous results. Furthermore we find the correlation between Ca II H and K emissions is different in 2011 and 2012. The chromospheric emission variation shows a highly spatial anti-correlation with the light curve, suggesting a spatial connection between the chromospheric active region and spot region.
We gathered high resolution spectra for an ensemble of 55 bright active and inactive stars using the ARC 3.5 m Telescope Echelle Spectrograph at Apache Point Observatory ($R\approx$31,500). We measured spectroscopic effective temperatures, surface gravities and metallicities for most stars in the sample with SME and MOOG. Our stellar property results are consistent with the photometric effective temperatures from the Gaia DR2 pipeline. We also measured their chromospheric $S$ and $\log R^\prime_\mathrm{HK}$ indices to classify the stars as active or inactive and study the connection between ch…
Observing the excitation mechanisms of incompressible transverse waves is vital for determining how energy propagates through the lower solar atmosphere. We aim to show the connection between convectively driven photospheric flows and incompressible chromospheric waves. The observations presented here show the propagation of incompressible motion through the quiet lower solar atmosphere, from the photosphere to the chromosphere. We determine photospheric flow vectors to search for signatures of vortex motion and compare results to {photospheric flows present in} convective simulations. Further…
Zero-age main-sequence (ZAMS) stars are considered to have enormous starspots and show strong chromospheric emission lines because of their strong surface magnetic field. We discuss the dynamo activities of ZAMS stars with respect to their periodic light variation caused by a starspot and with respect to the strength of the chromospheric emission lines. The light curves of $33$ ZAMS stars in IC 2391 and IC 2602 were obtained from \textit{TESS} photometric data. The light curves can be grouped into the following four categories: single frequency, possible shape changer, beater, and complex vari…
An analysis of line-of-sight velocity oscillation in nine solar faculae was undertaken with the aim of studying of phase relations between chromosphere (He i 10830 A line) and photosphere (Si i 10827 A line) five-minute oscillations. We found that time lag of the chromospheric signal relative to photospheric one varies from -12 to 100 seconds and is about 50 seconds on average. We assume that the small observed lag can have three possible explanations: i) convergence of formation levels of He i 10830 A and Si i 10827 A in faculae; ii) significant increase of five-minute oscillation propagation …
We investigate the linear correlation coefficient between the intensities at different wavelengths in photospheric and chromospheric spectral lines. Waves that propagate vertically through the stratified solar atmosphere affect different wavelengths at different times. This leads to a characteristic pattern of (non-)coherence of the intensity at various wavelengths. We derived the correlation matrices for several photospheric and chromospheric spectral lines from observations. For comparison with the observations, we calculate correlation matrices for spectra from LTE modeling approaches, 1-D …
We present multilevel radiative transfer modeling of the scattering polarization observed in the solar O I infrared triplet around 777 nm. We demonstrate that the scattering polarization pattern observed on the solar disk forms in the chromosphere, far above the photospheric region where the bulk of the emergent intensity profiles originates. We study the sensitivity of the polarization pattern to the thermal structure of the solar atmosphere and to the presence of weak magnetic fields (0.01 - 100 G) through the Hanle effect, showing that the scattering polarization signals of the oxygen infra…
In the solar atmosphere the twist parameter $α$ has the same sign as magnetic helicity. It has been observed using photospheric vector magnetograms that negative/positive helicity is dominant in the northern/southern hemisphere of the Sun. Chromospheric features show dextral/sinistral dominance in the northern/southern hemisphere and sigmoids observed in X-rays also have a dominant sense of reverse-S/forward-S in the northern/southern hemisphere. It is of interest whether individual features have one-to-one correspondence in terms of helicity at different atmospheric heights. We use UBF \Halph…
We study the connection between the chromospheric and photospheric behaviour of the active late-type star FK Comae. We use spot temperature modelling, light curve inversion based on narrow- and wide-band photometric measurements, Halpha observations from 1997-2010, and Doppler maps from 2004-2010 to compare the behaviour of chromospheric and photospheric features. Investigating low-resolution Halpha spectra we find that the changes in the chromosphere seem to happen mainly on a time scale longer than a few hours, but shorter variations were also observed. According to the Halpha measurements p…
A study of the propagation of magnetoacoustic waves in small-scale magnetic fields using solar photospheric and chromospheric Dopplergrams: HMI/SDO and MAST observations
We conducted high dispersion spectroscopic observations of 50 superflare stars with Subaru/HDS. These 50 stars were selected from the solar-type superflare stars that we had discovered from the Kepler data. More than half (34 stars) of these 50 target superflare stars show no evidence of binarity, and we estimated stellar parameters of these 34 stars in our previous study (Notsu et al. 2015, hereafter called Paper I). According to our previous studies using Kepler data, superflare stars show quasi-periodic brightness variations whose amplitude (0.1-10\%) is much larger than that of the solar b…
Aims. We analyze observational data from 4 instruments to study the correlations between chromospheric emission, spanning the heights from the temperature minimum region to the middle chromosphere, and photospheric magnetic field. Methods: The data consist of radio images at 3.5 mm from the Berkeley-Illinois-Maryland Array (BIMA), UV images at 1600 A from TRACE, Ca II K-line filtergrams from BBSO, and MDI/SOHO longitudinal photospheric magnetograms. For the first time interferometric millimeter data with the highest currently available resolution are included in such an analysis. We determine …
For seven decades, the widely held view has been that the formation, the migration and the decay of short-lived starspots explain the constantly changing light curves of chromospherically active stars. Our hypothesis is that these deceptive observed light curves are interference of two real constant period light curves of long-lived starspots. The slow motion of these long-lived starspots with respect to each other causes the observed light curve changes. This hypothesis contradicts the current views of starspots. Therefore, we subject it to eight reproducible tests. Our new period finding met…
We use joint observations obtained with the Hinode space observatory and the Interferometric Bidimensional Spectrometer (IBIS) installed at the DST of the NSO/SP to investigate the morphology and dynamics of (a) non-magnetic and (b) magnetic regions in the fluctosphere. In inter-network regions with no significant magnetic flux contributions above the detection limit of IBIS, we find intensity structures with similar characteristics as those seen in numerical simulations by Wedemeyer-Böhm (2008). The magnetic flux elements in the network are stable and seem to resemble the spatially extended c…
The starspots on the surface of many chromospherically active binary stars concentrate on long--lived active longitudes separated by 180 degrees. The activity shifts between these two longitudes, the "flip-flop" events, have been observed in single stars like FK Comae and binary stars like $σ$ Geminorum. Recently, interferometry has revealed that ellipticity may at least partly explain the "flip-flop" events in $σ$ Geminorum. This idea was supported by the double peaked shape of the long--term mean light curve of this star. Here, we show that the long--term mean light curves of fourteen chromo…
We analyzed the full Stokes spectra using simultaneous measurements of the photospheric (FeI 630.15 and 630.25 nm) and chromospheric (MgI b2 517.27 nm) lines. The data were obtained with the HAO/NSO Advanced Stokes Polarimeter, about a near disc center sunspot region, NOAA AR 9661. We compare the characteristics of Stokes profiles in terms of Doppler shifts and asymmetries among the three spectral lines, which helps us to better understand the chromospheric lines and the magnetic and flow fields in different magnetic regions. The main results are: (1) For penumbral area observed by the photosp…
We present the results of contemporaneous spectroscopic and photometric monitoring of the young solar-type star HD171488 (Prot~1.337 d) aimed at studying surface inhomogeneities at photospheric/chromospheric levels. Echelle FOCES spectra (R~40000) and Johnson photometry have been performed in 2006. Spectral type, rotational velocity, metallicity, and gravity were determined using a code developed by us. The metallicity was measured from the analysis of iron lines. The spectral subtraction technique was applied to the most relevant chromospheric diagnostics included in the FOCES spectral range …
We identify a set of 18 solar analogs among the seismic sample of solar-like stars observed by the Kepler satellite rotating between 10 and 40 days. This set is constructed using the asteroseismic stellar properties derived using either the global oscillation properties or the individual acoustic frequencies. We measure the magnetic activity properties of these stars using observations collected by the photometric Kepler satellite and by the ground-based, high-resolution Hermes spectrograph mounted on the Mercator telescope. The photospheric (Sph) and chromospheric (S index) magnetic activity …
We explore the connection between starspots and plages of three main-sequence stars by studying the chromospheric and photospheric activity over several rotation periods. We present simultaneous photometry and high-resolution ($R\sim 31,500$) spectroscopy of KIC 9652680, a young, superflare-producing G1 star with a rotation period of 1.4 days. Its Kepler light curve shows rotational modulation consistent with a bright hemisphere followed by a relatively dark hemisphere, generating photometric variability with a semi-amplitude of 4%. We find that KIC 9652680 is darkest when its $S$-index of Ca …
Stellar Chromospheric Activity Database of Solar-like Stars Based on the LAMOST Low-Resolution Spectroscopic Survey: II. the bolometric and photospheric calibration
Stepwise changes of the photospheric magnetic field, which often becomes more horizontal, have been observed during many flares. Previous interpretations include coronal loops that contract and it has been speculated that such jerks could be responsible for sunquakes. Here we report the detection of stepwise chromospheric line-of-sight magnetic field (B$_{\rm LOS}$) changes obtained through spectropolarimetry of Ca II 8542 Å with DST/IBIS during the X1-flare SOL20140329T17:48. They are stronger ($<$640 Mx cm$^{-2}$) and appear in larger areas than their photospheric counterparts ($<$320 Mx cm$…
In order to investigate the relation between magnetic structures and the signatures of heating in plage regions, we observed a plage region with the He I 1083.0 nm and Si I 1082.7 nm lines on 2018 October 3 using the integral field unit mode of the GREGOR Infrared Spectrograph (GRIS) installed at the GREGOR telescope. During the GRIS observation, the Interface Region Imaging Spectrograph (IRIS) obtained spectra of the ultraviolet Mg II doublet emitted from the same region. In the periphery of the plage region, within the limited field of view seen by GRIS, we find that the Mg II radiative flux…
Magnetic reconnection in the low atmosphere, e.g. chromosphere, is investigated in various physical environments. Its implications for the origination of explosive events (small--scale jets) are discussed. A 2.5-dimensional resistive magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) model in Cartesian coordinates is used. It is found that the temperature and velocity of the outflow jets as a result of magnetic reconnection are strongly dependent on the physical environments, e.g. the magnitude of the magnetic field strength and the plasma density. If the magnetic field strength is weak and the density is high, the te…
We explore the biological damage initiated in the environments of F, G, K, and M-type main-sequence stars due to photospheric, chromospheric and flare radiation. The amount of chromospheric radiation is, in a statistical sense, directly coupled to the stellar age as well as the presence of significant stellar magnetic fields and dynamo activity. With respect to photospheric radiation, we also consider detailed synthetic models, taking into account millions or hundred of millions of lines for atoms and molecules. Chromospheric UV radiation is increased in young stars in regard to all stellar sp…
The 3D structure of an active region (AR) filament is studied using nonlinear force-free field (NLFFF) extrapolations based on simultaneous observations at a photospheric and a chromospheric height. To that end, we used the Si I 10827 Å line and the He I 10830 Å triplet obtained with the Tenerife Infrared Polarimeter (TIP) at the VTT (Tenerife). The two extrapolations have been carried out independently from each other and their respective spatial domains overlap in a considerable height range. This opens up new possibilities for diagnostics in addition to the usual ones obtained through a sin…
We investigate the fast-rotating (P_orb=P_rot=0.465d), active dwarf binary V405 And (M0V+M5V) using photometric BV(RI)_C and optical spectroscopic data. The light variation is caused by the combined effect of spottedness and binarity with a small eclipse. We estimate the system parameters from the available light and radial velocity curves. Three flare events occurred during the observations: two were found in the spectroscopic data and one was observed photometrically in BV(RI)_C colours. An interesting eruptive phenomenon emerged from the photometric measurements that can be interpreted as a…
We analyzed X-Shooter/VLT spectra of 24 ClassIII sources from three nearby star-forming regions (sigmaOrionis, LupusIII, and TWHya). We determined the effective temperature, surface gravity, rotational velocity, and radial velocity by comparing the observed spectra with synthetic BT-Settl model spectra. We investigated in detail the emission lines emerging from the stellar chromospheres and combined these data with archival X-ray data to allow for a comparison between chromospheric and coronal emissions. Both X-ray and Halpha luminosity as measured in terms of the bolometric luminosity are ind…
Recently, we presented a general model for the light curves of chromospherically active stars, where the observed light curve is interference of two real constant period light curves of long-lived starspots. In this first paper, we make six specific questions which undermine this argument, because it contradicts the current widely held views about the stellar surface differential rotation and the starspots. Our aim is to answer these six questions. We present evidence that the long-lived starspots of our general model have already been detected in the earlier surface imaging studies. The Lomb-…
We have studied the evolution of magnetic helicity and chirality in an active region over three consecutive solar rotations. The region when it first appeared was named NOAA10923 and in subsequent rotations it was numbered NOAA 10930, 10935 and 10941. We compare the chirality of these regions at photospheric, chromospheric and coronal heights. The observations used for photospheric and chromospheric heights are taken from Solar Vector Magnetograph (SVM) and H_alpha imaging telescope of Udaipur Solar Observatory (USO), respectively. We discuss the chirality of the sunspots and associated H_alph…
Chromospheric rapid blueshifted excursions (RBEs) are suggested to be the disk counterparts of type II spicules at the limb and believed to contribute to the coronal heating process. Previous identification of RBEs was mainly based on feature detection using Dopplergrams. In this paper, we study RBEs on 2011 October 21 in a very quiet region at the disk center, which were observed with the high-cadence imaging spectroscopy of the Ca II 8542 A line from the Interferometric Bidimensional Spectrometer (IBIS). By using an automatic spectral analysis algorithm, a total of 98 RBEs are identified dur…
Studies of the formation and evolution of young stars and their disks rely on the knowledge of the stellar parameters of the young stars. The derivation of these parameters is commonly based on comparison with photospheric template spectra. Furthermore, chromospheric emission in young active stars impacts the measurement of mass accretion rates, a key quantity to study disk evolution. Here we derive stellar properties of low-mass pre-main sequence stars without disks, which represent ideal photospheric templates for studies of young stars. We also use these spectra to constrain the impact of c…
We analyze the correlation between starspots and superflares on solar-type stars using observations from the Kepler mission. The analysis shows that the observed fraction of stars with superflares decreases as the rotation period increases and as the amplitude of photometric variability associated with rotation decreases. We found that the fraction of stars with superflares among the stars showing large-amplitude rotational variations, which are thought to be the signature of the large starspots, also decreases as the rotation period increases. The small fraction of superflare stars among the …
We analyze variations in the transit lightcurves of CoRoT-2b, a massive hot Jupiter orbiting a highly active G star. We use one transit lightcurve to eclipse-map a photospheric spot occulted by the planet. In this case study we determine the size and longitude of the eclipsed portion of the starspot and systematically study the corresponding uncertainties. We determine a spot radius between $4.5\degr$ and $10.5\degr$ on the stellar surface and the spot longitude with a precision of about $\pm 1$ degree. Given the well-known transit geometry of the CoRoT-2 system, this implies a reliable detect…
Monitoring chromospheric and photospheric indexes of magnetic activity can provide valuable information, especially the interaction between different parts of the atmosphere and their response to magnetic fields. We extract chromospheric indexes, S and Rhk+, for 59,816 stars from LAMOST spectra in the LAMOST-Kepler program, and photospheric index, Reff, for 5575 stars from Kepler light curves. The log Reff shows positive correlation with log Rhk+. We estimate the power-law indexes between Reff and Rhk+ for F-, G-, and K-type stars, respectively. We also confirm the dependence of both chromosph…
The Sun is replete with magnetic fields, with sunspots, pores and plage regions being their most prominent representatives on the solar surface. But even far away from these active regions, magnetic fields are ubiquitous. To a large extent, their importance for the thermodynamics in the solar photosphere is determined by the total magnetic flux. Whereas in low-flux quiet Sun regions, magnetic structures are shuffled around by the motion of granules, the high-flux areas like sunspots or pores effectively suppress convection, leading to a temperature decrease of up to 3000 K. The importance of m…
The fine-structure of magnetic field of a sunspot penumbra in the upper chromosphere is to be explored and compared to that in the photosphere. High spatial resolution spectropolarimetric observations were recorded with the 1.5-meter GREGOR telescope using the GREGOR Infrared Spectrograph (GRIS). The observed spectral domain includes the upper chromospheric He I triplet at 1083.0 nm and the photospheric Si I 1082.7 nm and Ca I 1083.3 nm spectral lines. The upper chromospheric magnetic field is obtained by inverting the He I triplet assuming a Milne-Eddington type model atmosphere. A height dep…
Besides their own intrinsic interest, correct interpretation of solar surface magnetic field observations is crucial to our ability to describe the global magnetic structure of the solar atmosphere. Photospheric magnetograms are often used as lower boundary conditions in models of the corona, but not data from the nearly force-free chromosphere. National Solar Observatory's (NSO) Synoptic Optical Long-term Investigations of the Sun VSM (Vector Spectromagnetograph) produces full-disk line-of-sight magnetic flux images deriving from both photospheric and chromospheric layers on a daily basis. In…
Presented are the first interferometric images of cool starspots on the chromospherically active giant $λ$ Andromedae. These images represent the first model-independent images of cool starspots on a star other than the Sun to date. The interferometric observations, taken with the Michigan Infra-Red Combiner coupled to the Center for High Angular Resolution Astronomy Array, span 26 days from Aug 17$^{th}$, 2008 to Sep 24$^{th}$, 2011. The photometric time series acquired at Fairborn Observatory spanning Sep 20$^{th}$, 2008 to Jan 20$^{th}$, 2011 is also presented. The angular diameter and powe…
The so-called great dimming event of alpha Ori in late 2019 and early 2020 sparked our interest in the behaviour of chromospheric activity during this period. To study the timeline of chromospheric activity, we derive a S_MWO time series of TIGRE and Mount Wilson values, and we compare this long time series with photometric data from the AAVSO database. In addition, we determine the absolute and normalised excess flux of the Ca II H&K lines. To do so, we estimate the changing effective temperature from TIGRE spectra and find a clear drop of about 80 K between November 2019 and February 2020, w…
(Abridged) Optical spectra of classical T Tauri stars (cTTS) are rich in emission lines of low-excitation species that are composed of narrow and broad components, related to two regions with different kinematics, densities, and temperatures. The photospheric spectrum is often veiled by an excess continuous emission. This veiling is usually attributed to radiation from a heated region beneath the accretion shock. The aim of this research is to clarify the nature of the veiling, and whether the narrow chromospheric lines of Fe I and other metals represent a standard chromosphere of a late-type …

Photometric and Spectroscopic study of Ten Low Mass Ratio Contact Binary Systems: Orbital Stability, O'Connell Effect and Infra-red Calcium Line Filling
We have observed a quiet Sun region with the Swedish 1-meter Solar Telescope (SST) equipped with CRISP Imaging SpectroPolarimeter. High-resolution, high-cadence, H$α$ line scanning images were taken to observe different layers of the solar atmosphere from the photosphere to upper chromosphere. We study the distribution of power in different period-bands at different heights. Power maps of the upper photosphere and the lower chromosphere show suppressed power surrounding the magnetic-network elements, known as "magnetic shadows". These also show enhanced power close to the photosphere, traditio…
3D picture of the coronal magnetic field remains an outstanding problem in solar physics, particularly, in active regions. Nonlinear force-free field reconstructions that employ routinely available full-disk photospheric vector magnetograms represent state-of-the-art coronal magnetic field modeling. Such reconstructions, however, suffer from an inconsistency between a force-free coronal magnetic field and non-force-free photospheric boundary condition, from which the coronal reconstruction is performed. In this study we focus on integrating the additional chromospheric and / or coronal magneti…
We investigate the morphology and temporal variability of a quiet Sun network region in different solar layers. The emission in several EUV spectral lines through both raster and slot time series, recorded by EIS/Hinode is studied along with H$α$ observations and high resolution spectropolarimetric observations of the photospheric magnetic field. The photospheric magnetic field is extrapolated up to the corona showing a multitude of large and small scale structures. We show for the first time that the smallest magnetic structures both at the network and the internetwork contribute significantl…
This work utilizes Improved Solar Observing Optical Network (ISOON: Neidig et al. 2003) continuum (630.2 nm) and Hα (656.2 nm) data to: 1) detect and measure intrinsic sunspot rotations occurring in the photosphere and chromosphere, 2) identify and measure chromospheric filament mass motions, and 3) assess any large-scale photospheric and chromospheric mass couplings. Significant results from October 27-29, 2003, using the techniques of Brown et al. (2003), indicate significant counter-rotation between the two large sunspots in NOAA AR 10486 on October 29, as well as discrete filament mass mot…
While the {\it Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager} (HMI) onboard the {\it Solar Dynamics Observatory} (SDO) provides Doppler velocity [$V$], continuum intensity [$I_C$], and line-depth [$Ld$] observations, each of which is sensitive to the five-minute acoustic spectrum, the {\it Atmospheric Imaging Array} (AIA) also observes at wavelengths -- specifically the 1600 and 1700 Angstrom bands -- that are partly formed in the upper photosphere and have good sensitivity to acoustic modes. In this article we consider the characteristics of the spatio--temporal Fourier spectra in AIA and HMI observables …
A polytropic model is used to investigate the effects of dark photospheric spots on the evolution and radii of magnetically active, low-mass (M<0.5Msun), pre-main sequence (PMS) stars. Spots slow the contraction along Hayashi tracks and inflate the radii of PMS stars by a factor of (1-beta)^{-N} compared to unspotted stars of the same luminosity, where beta is the equivalent covering fraction of dark starspots and N \simeq 0.45+/-0.05. This is a much stronger inflation than predicted by the models of Spruit & Weiss (1986) for main sequence stars with the same beta, where N \sim 0.2 to 0.3. The…
Obtaining measurements of chromospheric and photometric activity of stars with near-solar fundamental parameters and rotation periods is important for a better understanding of solar-stellar connection. We select a sample of 2603 stars with near-solar fundamental parameters from the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST)-Kepler field and use LAMOST spectra to measure their chromospheric activity and Kepler light curves to measure their photospheric activity (i.e., the amplitude of the photometric variability). While the rotation periods of 1556 of these stars could …
We analyze several unusual filamentary structures, which appeared in the umbra of one of the sunspots in AR 11302. They do not resemble typical light bridges, neither in morphology, nor in evolution. We analyze data from SDO/HMI to investigate their temporal evolution, Hinode/SP for photospheric inversions, IBIS for chromospheric imaging, and SDO/AIA for the overlying corona. Photospheric inversions reveal a horizontal, inverse Evershed flow along these structures, which we call umbral filaments. Chromospheric images show brightenings and energy dissipation, while coronal images indicate that …
Chromospheric heating and magnetic topology above the shared penumbra of a delta-spot: Multi-line inversions and multi-height magnetic-field extrapolations
Institute for Solar Physics, Dept. of Astronomy, Stockholm University(斯德哥尔摩大学天文系太阳物理研究所)
Context. The Kepler mission has recently discovered a brown dwarf companion transiting one member of the M4V+M5V visual binary system LHS 6343 AB with an orbital period of 12.71 days. Aims. The particular interest of this transiting system lies in the synchronicity between the transits of the brown dwarf C component and the main modulation observed in the light curve, which is assumed to be caused by rotating starspots on the A component. We model the activity of this star by deriving maps of the active regions that allow us to study stellar rotation and the possible interaction with the brown…
We developed an efficient algorithm integrated in our 3D modeling tool, GX Simulator (Nita et al. 2015), allowing quick computation of the synthetic intensity and polarization maps of solar active regions (AR) in the ALMA spectral range. The algorithm analyzes the photospheric input (white light and magnetogram) to classify a given photospheric pixel to belong to a given photospheric structure. Then, a 1D chromospheric model (Fontenla et al. 2009) is added on top of each pixel, which forms a chromospheric model of the AR. Next step is computation of the mm and sub-mm emission produced from thi…
With the ever increasing influx of high resolution images of the solar surface obtained at a multitude of wavelengths, various processes occurring at small spatial scales have become a greater focus of our attention. Complex small-scale magnetic fields have been reported that appear to have enough stored to heat the chromosphere. While significant progress has been made in understanding small-scale phenomena, many specifics remain elusive. We present here a detailed study of a single event of disappearance of a magnetic dipole and associated chromospheric activity. Based on New Solar Telescope…
By using the LAMOST time-domain survey data, we study stellar activities based on the $\rm{H_α}$ lines for about 2000 stars in four $K$2 plates. Two indices, $R_{\rm{Hα}}^{'}$ and $R_{\rm{Hα}}^{+}$, are computed from LAMOST spectra, the former of which is derived by excluding the photospheric contributions to the $\rm{H_α}$ lines, while the latter is derived by further subtracting the non-dynamo driven chromospheric emission. Meanwhile, the periodicity and variation amplitudes are computed from \emph{K2} light curves. Both the $R_{\rm{Hα}}^{'}$-Ro relation and $R_{\rm{Hα}}^{+}$-Ro relation sho…
