For $n\ge 3$, $0<m<\frac{n-2}{n}$, $β<0$ and $α=\frac{2β}{1-m}$, we prove the existence, uniqueness and asymptotics near the origin of the singular eternal self-similar solutions of the fast diffusion equation in $(\mathbb{R}^n\setminus\{0\})\times \mathbb{R}$ of the form $U_λ(x,t)=e^{-αt}f_λ(e^{-βt}x), x\in \mathbb{R}^n\setminus\{0\}, t\in\mathbb{R},$ where $f_λ$ is a radially symmetric function satisfying $$\frac{n-1}{m}Δf^m+αf+βx\cdot\nabla f=0 \text{ in }\mathbb{R}^n\setminus\{0\},$$ with $\underset{\substack{r\to 0}}{\lim}\frac{r^2f(r)^{1-m}}{\log r^{-1}}=\frac{2(n-1)(n-2-nm)}{|β|(1-m)}$ and $\underset{\substack{r\to\infty}}{\lim}r^{\frac{n-2}{m}}f(r)=λ^{\frac{2}{1-m}-\frac{n-2}{m}}$, for some constant $λ>0$.
As a consequence we prove the existence and uniqueness of solutions of Cauchy problem for the fast diffusion equation $u_t=\frac{n-1}{m}Δu^m$ in $(\mathbb{R}^n\setminus\{0\})\times (0,\infty)$ with initial value $u_0$ satisfying $f_{λ_1}(x)\le u_0(x)\le f_{λ_2}(x)$, $\forall x\in\mathbb{R}^n\setminus\{0\}$, which satisfies $U_{λ_1}(x,t)\le u(x,t)\le U_{λ_2}(x,t)$, $\forall x\in \mathbb{R}^n\setminus\{0\}, t\ge 0$, for some constants $λ_1>λ_2>0$.
We also prove the asymptotic behaviour of such singular solution $u$ of the fast diffusion equation as $t\to\infty$ when $n=3,4$ and $\frac{n-2}{n+2}\le m<\frac{n-2}{n}$ holds. Asymptotic behaviour of such singular solution $u$ of the fast diffusion equation as $t\to\infty$ is also obtained when $3\le n<8$, $1-\sqrt{2/n}\le m<\min\left(\frac{2(n-2)}{3n},\frac{n-2}{n+2}\right)$, and $u(x,t)$ is radially symmetric in $x\in\mathbb{R}^n\setminus\{0\}$ for any $t>0$ under appropriate conditions on the initial value $u_0$.
We study the existence and nonexistence of positive singular solutions to second-order non-divergence type elliptic inequalities with measurable coefficients. We prove the existence of a critical value $p^*$ that separates the existence region from non-existence. In the critical case $p=p^*$ we show that the existence of a singular solution depends on the rate at which the coefficients stabilize at zero and we provide some optimal conditions in this setting.
In this paper, we investigate the qualitative properties of positive solutions for the following two-coupled elliptic system in the punctured space: $$ \begin{cases} -Δu =μ_1 u^{2q+1} + βu^q v^{q+1} \\ -Δv =μ_2 v^{2q+1} + βv^q u^{q+1} \end{cases} \textmd{in} ~\mathbb{R}^n \backslash \{0\}, $$ where $μ_1, μ_2$ and $β$ are all positive constants, $n\geq 3$. We establish a monotonicity formula that completely characterizes the singularity of positive solutions. We prove a sharp global estimate for both components of positive solutions. We also prove the nonexistence of positive semi-singular solu…
In this paper, we study singular solutions of linear problems with fractional Laplacian. First, we establish Bôcher type theorems on a punctured ball via distributional approach. Then, we develop a few interesting maximum principles on a punctured ball. Our distributional approach only requires the basic local L-1 integrability. We also introduce several simple and useful lemmas, which enable us to unify the treatments for both Laplacian and fractional Laplacian. These theorems, lemmas and the methods introduced here can be adapted and applied in other situations.
We study the asymptotic behavior for singular solutions to a critical fourth order system generalizing the constant $Q$-curvature equation. Our main result extends to the case of strongly coupled systems, the celebrated asymptotic classification due to [L. A. Caffarelli, B. Gidas and J. Spruck, Comm. Pure Appl. Math. (1989)] and [N. Korevaar, R. Mazzeo, F. Pacard and R. Schoen, Invent. Math., (1999)]. On the technical level, we use an involved spectral analysis to study the Jacobi fields' growth properties in the kernel of the linearization of our system around a blow-up limit solution. Beside…
We show that the Sobolev embedding is compact on punctured manifolds with conical singularities. On the other hand, we find the Sobolev inequality does not hold on punctured manifolds with Poincaré like metric, on which one has Poincaré inequality. Applying the results to the Laplace's equation on the singular manifolds, we obtain the existences of the solution in both cases. In conical singularity case, we prove further that the solution can be extended to the singular points and it is Hölder continuous. However, the solution can not be continuously extended to the singular points in Poincaré…
We provide a theoretical study of a new family of orthogonal functions on the punctured complex plane solving the eigenvalue problems for some magnetic Laplacian perturbed by a singular vector potential with zero magnetic field modeling the Aharonov-Bohm effect. The functions are defined by their $β$-modified Rodrigues type formula and extend the poly-analytic Itô--Hermite polynomials to the poly-meromorphic setting. Mainly, we derive their different operational representations and give their explicit expressions in terms of special functions. Different generating functions and integral repres…
We determine the global behavior of every C^2-solution to the two-dimensional degenerate Monge-Ampere equation, u_{xx}u_{yy}-u_{xy}^2=0, over the finitely punctured plane. With this, we classify every solution in the once or twice punctured plane. Moreover, when we have more than two singularities, if the solution u is not linear in a half-strip, we obtain that the singularities are placed at the vertices of a convex polyhedron P and the graph of u is made by pieces of cones outside of P which are suitably glued along the sides of the polyhedron. Finally, if we look for analytic solutions, the…
In this paper, we consider radial distributional solutions of the quasilinear equation $-Δ_N u=f(u)$ in the punctured open ball $ B_R\backslash\{0\}\subset \RR^N$, $N \geq 2$. We obtain sharp conditions on the nonlinearity $f$ for extending such solutions to the whole domain $B_R$ by preserving the regularity. For a certain class of noninearity $f$ we obtain the existence of singular solutions and deduce upper and lower estimates on the growth rate near the singularity.
In this paper, we consider the Dirichlet problem for the homogeneous $k$-Hessian equation with prescribed asymptotic behavior at $0\inΩ$ where $Ω$ is a $(k-1)$-convex bounded domain in the Euclidean space. The prescribed asymptotic behavior at $0$ of the solution is zero if $k>\frac{n}{2}$, it is $\log|x|+O(1)$ if $k=\frac{n}{2}$ and $-|x|^{\frac{2k-n}{n}}+O(1)$ if $k<\frac{n}{2}$. To solve this problem, we consider the Dirichlet problem of the approximating $k$-Hessian equation in $Ω\setminus \overline{B_r(0)}$ with $r$ small. We firstly construct the subsolution of the approximating $k$-Hess…
In this paper, we consider the asymptotic behavior of positive solutions of the biharmonic equation $$ Δ^2 u = u^p~~~~~~~in ~ B_1 \backslash \{0\}$$ with an isolated singularity, where the punctured ball $B_1 \backslash \{0\} \subset \mathbb{R}^n$ with $n\geq 5$ and $\frac{n}{n-4} < p < \frac{n+4}{n-4}$. This equation is relevant for the $Q$-curvature problem in conformal geometry. We classify isolated singularities of positive solutions and describe the asymptotic behavior of positive singular solutions without the sign assumption for $-Δu$. We also give a new method to prove removable singul…
In a previous work (Int. Math. Res. Notices 13 (2010) 2394-2426), Adimurthi-Yang proved a singular Trudinger-Moser inequality in the entire Euclidean space $\mathbb{R}^N$ $(N\geq 2)$. Precisely, if $0\leq β<1$ and $0<γ\leq1-β$, then there holds for any $τ>0$, $$\sup_{u\in W^{1,N}(\mathbb{R}^N),\,\int_{\mathbb{R}^N}(|\nabla u|^N+τ|u|^N)dx\leq 1}\int_{\mathbb{R}^N}\frac{1}{|x|^{Nβ}}\left(e^{α_Nγ|u|^{\frac{N}{N-1}}}-\sum_{k=0}^{N-2}\frac{α_N^kγ^k|u|^{\frac{kN}{N-1}}} {k!}\right)dx<\infty,$$ where $α_N=Nω_{N-1}^{1/(N-1)}$ and $ω_{N-1}$ is the area of the unit sphere in $\mathbb{R}^N$. The above in…
We study metrics of constant $Q$-curvature in the Euclidean space with a prescribed singularity at the origin, namely solutions to the equation $$(-Δ)^\frac{n}{2}w=e^{nw}-cδ_{0} \text{ on } \mathbb R^n,$$ under a finite volume condition. We analyze the asymptotic behaviour at infinity and the existence of solutions for every $n\ge 3$ also in a supercritical regime. Finally, we state some open problems.
In this article we compute the best Sobolev constants for various Hardy-Sobolev inequalities with sharp Hardy term. This is carried out in three different environments: interior point singularity in Euclidean space, interior point singularity in hyperbolic space and boundary point singularity in Euclidean domains.
We study Hessian fully nonlinear uniformly elliptic equations and show that the second derivatives of viscosity solutions of those equations (in 12 or more dimensions) can blow up in an interior point of the domain. We prove that the optimal interior regularity of such solutions is no more than C^{1+ε}, showing the optimality of the known interior regularity result. The same is proven for Isaacs equations. We prove the existence of non-smooth solutions to fully nonlinear Hessian uniformly elliptic equations in 11 dimensions. We study also the possible singularity of solutions of Hessian equati…
In this paper we study singular integrals on small (that is, measure zero and lower than full dimensional) subsets of metric groups. The main examples of the groups we have in mind are Euclidean spaces and Heisenberg groups. In addition to obtaining results in a very general setting, the purpose of this work is twofold; we shall extend some results in Euclidean spaces to more general kernels than previously considered, and we shall obtain in Heisenberg groups some applications to harmonic (in the Heisenberg sense) functions of some results known earlier in Euclidean spaces.
