We consider black holes which form from an initially spherically symmetric super-Hubble perturbation of a cosmological background filled by a perfect fluid $p=w ρ$ with $w\in (0,1]$. Previous work has shown that when $w = 1/3$ (radiation), there is a critical threshold for black hole formation ($δ_c$), which, to a very good approximation, only depends upon the curvature of the compaction function around its peak value. We find that this generalizes to all $w\gtrsim 1/3$; for smaller $w$s the knowledge of the full shape of the compaction function is necessary. We provide analytic approximations for $δ_c$ which are accurate for $w\in [1/3,1]$.
Primordial black holes may have formed in the radiative era of the early Universe from the collapse of large enough amplitude perturbations of the metric. These correspond to non linear energy density perturbations characterized by an amplitude larger than a certain threshold, measured when the perturbations reenter the cosmological horizon. The process of primordial black hole formation is studied here within spherical symmetry, using the gradient expansion approximation in the long wavelength limit, where the pressure gradients are small, and the initial perturbations are functions only of a…
We investigate the main features of the flat Friedmann-Lemaıtre-Robertson-Walker cosmological models in the f(T) teleparallel gravity. In particular, a general approach to find out exact cosmological solutions in f (T) gravity is discussed. Instead of taking into account phenomenological models, we consider as a selection criterion, the existence of Noether symmetries in the cosmological f(T) point-like Lagrangian. We find that only power-law models admit extra Noether symmetries. A complete analysis of such cosmological models is developed.
We construct explicit solutions for scalar, vector and tensor perturbations in a less known setting, a flat universe filled by an isotropic elastic solid with pressure and shear modulus proportional to energy density. The solutions generalize the well known formulas for cosmological perturbations in a universe filled by ideal fluid.
Unimodular gravity is an appealing approach to address the cosmological constant problem. In this scenario, the vacuum energy density of quantum fields does not gravitate and the cosmological constant appears merely as an integration constant. Recently, it has been shown that energy diffusion that may arise in quantum gravity and in theories with spontaneous collapse is compatible with this framework by virtue of its restricted diffeomorphism invariance. New studies suggest that this phenomenon could lead to higher-order equations in the context of homogeneous and isotropic Universe, affecting…
A new approach to the phenomenon of large numbers coincidence leads to unexpected results. No matter how strange it might sound, the exact value of cosmological parameters and their analytical expression through fundamental constants have been founded. The basis for obtaining these unusual results is the equality of the fundamental Large Number to the exponent of the inverse value of the fine structure constant.
This work investigates the formation of primordial black holes within a radiation fluid with an anisotropic pressure. We focus our attention on the initial conditions describing cosmological perturbations in the super horizon regime, using a covariant form of the equation of state in terms of pressure and energy density gradients. The effect of the anisotropy is to modify the initial shape of the cosmological perturbations with respect to the isotropic case. Using the dependence of the threshold $δ_\mathrm{c}$ for primordial black holes with respect to the shape of cosmological perturbations, …
We analytically study the expansion of a Bose-Einstein condensate in a ring-shaped trap with an increasing central radius. The evolution of the ground state is described using a scaling transform. Additionally, the dynamics of excited azimuthal modes over the varying ground state is analyzed through a generalization of the Bogoliubov-de Gennes approach. Our results explain some of the features observed in recent experiments focused on testing the applicability of the system as a parallel of cosmological inflationary models. The radial dynamics, which corresponds to the inflaton field of the co…
Oscillating scalar fields are useful to model a variety of matter components in the universe. One or more scalar fields participate in the reheating process after inflation, while at much lower energies scalar fields are robust dark matter candidates. Pertaining structure formation in these models, it is well known that inhomogeneities of the Klein-Gordon field are unstable above the characteristic De Broglie wavelength. In this paper we show that such instability implies the existence of a threshold amplitude for the collapse of primordial fluctuations. We use this threshold to correctly pred…
The purpose of the present study is to show that in a particular cosmological model, with an affine equation of state, one can obtain, besides the background given by the scale factor, Hubble and deceleration parameters, a representation in terms of scalar fields and, more important, explicit mathematical expressions for the density contrast and the power spectrum. Although the model so obtained is not realistic, it reproduces features observed in some previous numerical studies and, therefore, it may be useful in the testing of numerical codes and as a pedagogical tool.
From the principles of quantum cosmologies we can justify the reason for an inverse-square law for the cosmological constant with no conflict with observations. Although this general expression for $Λ$ is well known in the literature, in this work we introduce some analytical solutions for the scale factor different from the literature. The underlying motivation to carry out these solutions is the fact that the time variation of $Λ$ can lead to a creation of matter and/or radiation such as to help in the investigation of the age of the Universe. The knowledge of the scale factor behavior might…

Primordial black holes could have been formed in the early universe from non linear cosmological perturbations re-entering the cosmological horizon when the Universe was still radiation dominated. Starting from the shape of the power spectrum on superhorizon scales, we provide a simple prescription, based on the results of numerical simulations, to compute the threshold $δ_c$ for primordial black hole formation. Our procedure takes into account both the non linearities between the Gaussian curvature perturbation and the density contrast and, for the first time in the literature, the non linear…
The accelerated expansion of the universe has now been confirmed by several independent observations including those of high redshift type Ia supernovae, and the cosmic microwave background combined with the large scale structure of the Universe. In this work we introduce families of analytical solutions for the scale factor different from the current literature. The knowledge of the scale factor behavior might shed some light on these questions since the entire evolution of a homogeneous isotropic Universe is contained in the scale factor. We use different parameters for these solutions and w…
We investigate the dynamical features of a large family of running vacuum cosmologies for which $Λ$ evolves as a polynomial in the Hubble parameter. Specifically, using the critical point analysis we study the existence and the stability of singular solutions which describe de-Sitter, radiation and matter dominated eras. We find several classes of $Λ(H)$ cosmologies for which new analytical solutions are given in terms of Laurent expansions. Finally, we show that the Milne universe and the $R_{h}=ct$ model can be seen as perturbations around a specific $Λ(H)$ model, but this model is unstable.
We present a general analytical treatment of cosmological models commanded by three interactive fluids with arbitrary barotropic indexes. The variable equations of state case are applicable to universes with quintessences, k essences and holographic fluids and we pay some attention to the holographic case. We also propose the need to extend the functional forms of the holographic energy densities that are usual in the literature in the face of the incompatibility presented by them when special interactions are used.
In the context of extended Teleparallel gravity theories with a 3+1 dimensions Gauss-Bonnet analog term, we address the possibility of these theories reproducing several well-known cosmological bouncing scenarios in a four-dimensional Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker geometry. We shall study which types of gravitational Lagrangians are capable of reconstructing bouncing solutions provided by analytical expressions for symmetric, oscillatory, superbounce, the matter bounce and singular bounce. Some of the Lagrangians discovered are both analytical at the origin having Minkowski and Schwarzsc…
A difficult task to deal with is the analytical treatment of models composed by three real scalar fields, once their equations of motion are in general coupled and hard to be integrated. In order to overcome this problem we introduce a methodology to construct three-field models based on the so-called "extension method". The fundamental idea of the procedure is to combine three one-field systems in a non-trivial way, to construct an effective three scalar field model. An interesting scenario where the method can be implemented is within inflationary models, where the Einstein-Hilbert Lagrangia…
Recently we have introduced a nonrelativistic cosmological model (NRCM) exhibiting a dynamical spatial curvature. For this model the present day cosmic acceleration is not attributed to a negative pressure (dark energy) but it is driven by a nontrivial energy flow leading to a negative spatial curvature. In this paper we generalize the NRCM in two different ways to the relativistic regime and present analytical solutions of the corresponding Einstein equations. These relativistic models are characterized by two inequivalent extensions of the FLWR metric with a time-dependent curvature function…
The present work deals with scalar field cosmology in the framework of a quantum gravity modified Einstein-Hilbert Lagrangian with variable $G$ and $Λ$. Using Renormalization group, variable $G$ behaves as a minimally coupled filed (not the scalar-tensor theory) and variable $Λ$ can be interpreted as a potential function. The point Lagrangian for this model in the background of homogeneous and isotropic flat FLRW space-time model experiences point-like Noether symmetry and equivalent potential function $Λ(G)$ is determined. Using a point transformation in the $3D$ augmented space is found that…
Primordial black holes could have been formed in the early universe from sufficiently large cosmological perturbations re-entering the horizon when the Universe is still radiation dominated. These originate from the spectrum of curvature perturbations generated during inflation at small-scales. Because of the non-linear relation between the curvature perturbation $ζ$ and the overdensity $δρ$, the formation of the primordial black holes is affected by intrinsic non-Gaussianity even though the curvature perturbation is Gaussian. We investigate the impact of this non-Gaussianity on the critical t…
The present article investigates the possibility of reconstruction of the generic function in $F(\mathcal{R},T)$ gravitational theory by considering some well-known cosmological bouncing models namely exponential evaluation, oscillatory, power law and matter bounce model, where $\mathcal{R}$ and $T$ are Ricci scalar and trace of energy-momentum tensor, respectively. Due to the complexity of dynamical field equations, we propose some ansatz forms of function $F(\mathcal{R},T)$ in perspective models and examine that which type of Lagrangian is capable to reproduce bouncing solution via analytica…
In this paper, we present the cosmological scenario obtained from $f(R,T)$ gravity by using an exponential dependence on the trace of the energy-momentum tensor. With a numerical approach applied to the equations of motion, we show several precise fits and the respective cosmological consequences. As a matter of completeness, we also analyzed cosmological scenarios where this new version of $f(R,T)$ is coupled with a real scalar field. In order to find analytical cosmological parameters, we used a slow-roll approximation for the evolution of the scalar field. This approximation allowed us to d…
The current cosmic time evolution of the Universe is described by the General Relativity theory when a cosmological principle is considered under a flat space time landscape. The set of known as Friedmann equations, contain the principles that lead to the construction of the standard $Λ$CDM model. However, the current state-of-art regarding these equations, even if it is a fundamental method, is based in solving analytically the differential equations by considering several forms of matter/energy components or evaluating them in specific cosmic times where two or more components contribute at …
In this paper we characterize barotropic index singularities of homogeneous isotropic cosmological models. They are shown to appear in cosmologies for which the scale factor is analytical with a Taylor series in which the linear and quadratic terms are absent. Though the barotropic index of the perfect fluid is singular, the singularities are weak, as it happens for other models for which the density and the pressure are regular.
We consider the growth of cosmological perturbations to the energy density of dark matter during matter domination when dark matter is a scalar field that has undergone Bose-Einstein condensation. We study these inhomogeneities within the framework of both Newtonian gravity, where the calculation and results are more transparent, and General Relativity. The direction we take is to derive analytical expressions, which can be obtained in the small pressure limit. Throughout we compare our results to those of the standard cosmology, where dark matter is assumed pressureless, using our analytical …
We discuss the validity of general relativity at low-energy and relate the threshold below which the theory breaks down with the observed value of the cosmological constant. This suggests the existence of a mass scale of ${\cal O}(10^{-3}) eV$ and a putative violation of the equivalence principle at about $10^{-14}$ level.
Power-law corrections (having the exponent strictly between 2 and 3) to the Einstein-Hilbert action yield an extended theory of gravity which is consistent with Solar-System tests and properly reproduces the main phases of the Universe thermal history. We find two distinct constraints for the characteristic length scale of the model: a lower bound from the Solar-System test and an upper bound by requiring the existence of the matter-dominated era. We also show how the extended framework can accommodate the existence of an early de Sitter phase. Within the allowed range of characteristic length…
As an alternative to dark energy it has been suggested that we may be at the center of an inhomogeneous isotropic universe described by a Lemaitre-Tolman-Bondi (LTB) solution of Einstein's field equations. In order to test this hypothesis we calculate the general analytical formula to fifth order for the redshift spherical shell mass. Using the same analytical method we write the metric in the light-cone by introducing a gauge invariant quantity $G(z)$ which together with the luminosity distance $D_L(z)$ completely determine the light-cone geometry of a LTB model.
Dynamical Einstein cluster is a spherical self-gravitating system of counterrotating particles, which may expand, oscillate and collapse. This system exhibits critical behaviour in its collapse at the threshold of black hole formation. It appears when the specific angular momentum of particles is tuned finely to the critical value. We find the unique exact self-similar solution at the threshold. This solution begins with a regular surface, involves timelike naked singularity formation and asymptotically approaches a static self-similar cluster.
In this thesis, we discuss some of the applications of cosmological perturbation theory in the late universe. We begin by reviewing the tools used to understand the standard model of cosmology theoretically and to compute its observational consequences, including a detailed exposition of cosmological perturbation theory. We then describe the results in this thesis; we present novel analytical solutions for linear-order gravitational waves or tensor perturbations in a flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe containing two perfect fluids -- radiation and pressureless dust -- and allowing for ne…
Perturbation theory within Newtonian approximation is presented for cosmological models with varying physical constants. Analytical solutions for perturbations dynamics are obtained for each Gurzadyan-Xue model with pressureless matter and radiation. We found that perturbations grow during entire expansion within GX models, including curvature- and vacuum-dominated stage when they cease to grow in the standard cosmological model.
We present an exact analytical solution of the Einstein equations with cosmological constant in a spatially flat Robertson-Walker metric. This is interpreted as an isotropic Lemaitre-type version of the cosmological Friedmann model. Implications in the recent discovered cosmic acceleration of the universe and in the theory of an inflationary model of the universe are in view. Some properties of this solution are pointed out as a result of numerical investigations of the model.
We present a new analytical solution of the Einstein field equations describing a wormhole shell of zero thickness joining two Lemaıtre-Tolman-Bondi universes, with no radial accretion. The material on the shell satisfies the energy conditions and, at late times, the shell becomes comoving with the dust-dominated cosmic substratum.
In this paper, we construct and study solutions of Einstein's equations in vacuum with a positive cosmological constant which can be considered as inhomogeneous generalizations of the Nariai cosmological model. Similar to this Nariai spacetime, our solutions are at the borderline between gravitational collapse and de-Sitter-like exponential expansion. Our studies focus in particular on the intriguing oscillatory dynamics which we discover. Our investigations are carried out both analytically (using heuristic mode analysis arguments) and numerically (using the numerical infrastructure recently …
