From the principles of quantum cosmologies we can justify the reason for an inverse-square law for the cosmological constant with no conflict with observations. Although this general expression for $Λ$ is well known in the literature, in this work we introduce some analytical solutions for the scale factor different from the literature. The underlying motivation to carry out these solutions is the fact that the time variation of $Λ$ can lead to a creation of matter and/or radiation such as to help in the investigation of the age of the Universe. The knowledge of the scale factor behavior might shed some light on these questions since the entire evolution of a homogeneous isotropic Universe is contained in the scale factor.
We construct explicit solutions for scalar, vector and tensor perturbations in a less known setting, a flat universe filled by an isotropic elastic solid with pressure and shear modulus proportional to energy density. The solutions generalize the well known formulas for cosmological perturbations in a universe filled by ideal fluid.
This is a written version of the review talk given at the meeting on "Interface of Gravitational and Quantum Realms" at IUCAA, Pune during December 2001. The talk reviewed the recent work of Martin Bojowald on Loop Quantum Cosmology.
We explore the phenomenology of a two-fluid cosmological model, where the field equations of general relativity (GR) are sourced by baryonic and cold dark matter. We find that the model allows for a unified description of small and large scale, late-time cosmological dynamics. Specifically, in the static regime we recover the flattening of galactic rotation curves by requiring the matter density profile to scale as $1/r^2$. The same behavior describes matter inhomogeneities distribution at small cosmological scales. This traces galactic dynamics back to structure formation. At large cosmologic…
The purpose of the present study is to show that in a particular cosmological model, with an affine equation of state, one can obtain, besides the background given by the scale factor, Hubble and deceleration parameters, a representation in terms of scalar fields and, more important, explicit mathematical expressions for the density contrast and the power spectrum. Although the model so obtained is not realistic, it reproduces features observed in some previous numerical studies and, therefore, it may be useful in the testing of numerical codes and as a pedagogical tool.
In this work we have studied a cosmological model based on a quintom dark energy model non-minimally coupled with gravity, endowed with a specfic potential energy of the exponential squared type. For this specific type of potential energy and non-minimal coupling, the dynamical properties are analyzed and the corresponding cosmological effects are discussed. Considering the linear stability method, we have investigated the dynamical properties of the phase space structure, determining the physically acceptable solutions. The analysis showed that in this model we can have various cosmological e…
The present review is devoted to a Chiral Cosmological Model as the self-gravitating nonlinear sigma model with the potential of (self)interactions employed in cosmology. The chiral cosmological model has successive applications in descriptions of the inflationary epoch of the Universe evolution; the present accelerated expansion of the Universe also can be described by the chiral fields multiplet as the dark energy in wide sense. To be more illustrative we are often addressed to the two-component chiral cosmological model. Namely, the two-component chiral cosmological model describing the pha…
The accelerated expansion of the universe has now been confirmed by several independent observations including those of high redshift type Ia supernovae, and the cosmic microwave background combined with the large scale structure of the Universe. In this work we introduce families of analytical solutions for the scale factor different from the current literature. The knowledge of the scale factor behavior might shed some light on these questions since the entire evolution of a homogeneous isotropic Universe is contained in the scale factor. We use different parameters for these solutions and w…
The present work deals with scalar field cosmology in the framework of a quantum gravity modified Einstein-Hilbert Lagrangian with variable $G$ and $Λ$. Using Renormalization group, variable $G$ behaves as a minimally coupled filed (not the scalar-tensor theory) and variable $Λ$ can be interpreted as a potential function. The point Lagrangian for this model in the background of homogeneous and isotropic flat FLRW space-time model experiences point-like Noether symmetry and equivalent potential function $Λ(G)$ is determined. Using a point transformation in the $3D$ augmented space is found that…
Based on the Bianchi type IX metric, we calculate the energy and momentum density components of the gravitational field for the five different definitions of energy-momentum, namely, Tolman, Papapetrou, Landau-Lifshitz, Møller and Weinberg. The energy densities of Møller and Weinberg become zero for the spacetime under consideration. In the other prescriptions, i.e., Tolman, Papapetrou and Landau-Lifshitz complexes, we find different non-vanishing energy-momentum densities for the given spacetime, supporting the well-known argument in General Relativity that the different definitions may lead …
A new approach to the phenomenon of large numbers coincidence leads to unexpected results. No matter how strange it might sound, the exact value of cosmological parameters and their analytical expression through fundamental constants have been founded. The basis for obtaining these unusual results is the equality of the fundamental Large Number to the exponent of the inverse value of the fine structure constant.
The present article investigates the possibility of reconstruction of the generic function in $F(\mathcal{R},T)$ gravitational theory by considering some well-known cosmological bouncing models namely exponential evaluation, oscillatory, power law and matter bounce model, where $\mathcal{R}$ and $T$ are Ricci scalar and trace of energy-momentum tensor, respectively. Due to the complexity of dynamical field equations, we propose some ansatz forms of function $F(\mathcal{R},T)$ in perspective models and examine that which type of Lagrangian is capable to reproduce bouncing solution via analytica…
We discuss new Majumdar-Papapetrou solutions for the 3+1 Einstein-Maxwell equations, with charged dust acting as the external source of the fields. The solutions satisfy non-linear potential equations which are related to well-known wave equations of 1+1 soliton physics. Although the matter distributions are not localised, they present central structures which may be identified with voids.
We consider cosmological consequences of a conformal invariant formulation of Einstein's General Relativity where instead of the scale factor of the spatial metrics in the action functional a massless scalar (dilaton) field occurs which scales all masses including the Planck mass. Instead of the expansion of the universe we get the Hoyle-Narlikar type of mass evolution, where the temperature history of the universe is replaced by the mass history. We show that this conformal invariant cosmological model gives a satisfactory description of the new supernova Ia data for the effective magnitude -…
Bimetric gravity theories describes gravitational interactions in the presence of an extra spin-2 field. The Hassan-Rosen (HR) nonlinear massive minimal bigravity theory is a ghost-free bimetric theory formulated with respect a flat, dynamical reference metric. In this work the deformation quantization formalism is applied to a HR cosmological model in the minisuperspace. The quantization procedure is performed explicitly for quantum cosmology in the minisuperspace. The Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) model with flat metrics is worked out and the computation of the Wigner functions …
We study the dynamical evolution of cosmological models with the Robertson-Walker symmetry with a scalar field non-minimally coupled to gravity and barotropic matter. For this aim we use dynamical system methods. We have found a type of evolutional path which links between all important events during the evolution, the cosmological singularity of finite time, inflation, radiation and matter dominating epoch and the accelerated phase expansion of the universe. We point out importance of finding the new generic solution called a twister solution for a deeper description of the evolution of the U…
We discuss the validity of the Thakurta metric to describe cosmological black holes by analysing the nature of its horizon. By adopting the preferred foliation of the Thakurta spacetime associated with the Kodama time, we demonstrate that the Thakurta horizon is indeed a future outer trapping horizon. Therefore, the respective observers see it as a cosmological black hole, contrary to some claims in the literature.
Canonical methods of quasiclassical dynamics make it possible to go beyond a strict background approximation for cosmological perturbations by including independent fields such as correlation degrees of freedom. New models are introduced and analyzed here for cosmological dynamics in the presence of quantum correlations between background and perturbations, as well as cross-correlations between different modes of a quantum field. Evolution equations for moments of a perturbation state reveal conditions required for inhomogeneity to build up out of an initial vacuum. A crucial role is played by…
We show the way of dark matter and dark energy presentation via ansatzs on the kinetic energies of the fields in the two-component chiral cosmological model. To connect a kinetic interaction of dark matter and dark energy with observational data the reconstruction procedure for the chiral metric component $h_{22}$ and the potential of (self)interaction $V$ has been developed. The reconstruction of $h_{22}$ and $V$ for the early and later inflation have been performed. The proposed model is confronted to $ΛCDM$ model as well.
We present an analytical formalism, within the Effective-One-Body framework, which predicts gravitational-wave signals from inspiralling and coalescing black-hole binaries that agree, within numerical errors, with the results of the currently most accurate numerical relativity simulations for several different mass ratios. In the equal-mass case, the gravitational wave energy flux predicted by our formalism agrees, within numerical errors, with the most accurate numerical-relativity energy flux. We think that our formalism opens a realistic possibility of constructing a sufficiently accurate, …
We investigate the dynamical features of a large family of running vacuum cosmologies for which $Λ$ evolves as a polynomial in the Hubble parameter. Specifically, using the critical point analysis we study the existence and the stability of singular solutions which describe de-Sitter, radiation and matter dominated eras. We find several classes of $Λ(H)$ cosmologies for which new analytical solutions are given in terms of Laurent expansions. Finally, we show that the Milne universe and the $R_{h}=ct$ model can be seen as perturbations around a specific $Λ(H)$ model, but this model is unstable.
Classical and quantum perturbations can be described in terms of marginal distribution functions in the framework of tomographic cosmology. In particular, the so called Radon transformation and the mode-parametric quantum oscillator description can give rise to links between quantum and classical regimes. The approach results a natural scheme to discuss the transition from the quantum to the classical perturbations and then it could be a workable scheme to connect primordial fluctuations with the today observed large scale structure.
A difficult task to deal with is the analytical treatment of models composed by three real scalar fields, once their equations of motion are in general coupled and hard to be integrated. In order to overcome this problem we introduce a methodology to construct three-field models based on the so-called "extension method". The fundamental idea of the procedure is to combine three one-field systems in a non-trivial way, to construct an effective three scalar field model. An interesting scenario where the method can be implemented is within inflationary models, where the Einstein-Hilbert Lagrangia…
It has been argued that the spacetime of our universe can be accurately described by a perturbed conformal Newtonian metric, and hence even large density inhomogeneities in a dust universe can not change the observables predicted by the homogeneous dust model. In this paper we study a spherically symmetric dust model and illustrate conditions under which large spatial variations in the expansion rate can invalidate the argument.
A cosmological description of the universe is proposed in the context of Hamiltonian formulation of a Bianchi IX cosmology minimally coupled to a massless scalar field. The classical and quantum results are studied with special attention to the case of closed Friedmann-Robertson-Walker model.
We present a cosmological model arising from a gravitational theory with an infinite tower of higher-order curvature invariants that can reproduce the entire evolution of the Universe: from inflation to late-time acceleration, without invoking an inflaton nor a cosmological constant. The theory is Einsteinian-like. The field equations for a Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker metric are of second-order and can reproduce a late-time evolution that is consistent with the acceleration provided by the cosmological constant at low redshift. Our results force us to reinterpret the nature of dark ene…
In this paper we use and extend the results present in \cite{1,2,3,4} and in particular in \cite{4} to obtain a statistical description of the cosmological constant in a cosmological de Sitter universe in terms of massless excitations with Planckian effects. First of all, we show that at a classical level, the cosmological constant $Λ>0$ can be obtained only for $T\rightarrow 0$. Similarly to the black hole case, when quantum effects are taken into account, a representation for $Λ$ is possible in terms of massless excitations, provided that quantum corrections to the Misner-Sharp mass are cons…
Scalar-tensor theories offer the prospect of explaining the cosmological evolution of the Universe through an effective description of dark energy as a quantity with a non-trivial evolution. In this work, we investigate this feature of scalar-tensor theories in the teleparallel gravity context. Teleparallel gravity is a novel description of geometric gravity as a torsional-rather than curvature-based quantity which presents a new foundational base for gravity. Our investigation is centered on the impact of a nontrivial input from the kinetic term of the scalar field. We consider a number of mo…
Our aim is to investigate the thermodynamic properties of the universe bounded by the cosmological event horizon and dominated by the tachyon fluid. We give two different laws of evolution of our universe. Further, we show the first law and the generalized second law of thermodynamics (GSLT) are both satisfied in two cases, but their properties of the thermodynamic equilibrium are totally different. Besides, under our solutions, we find the validity of the laws of thermodynamics is irrelevant with the parameters of the tachyon fluid. Finally, we conclude that the universe bounded by the cosmol…
We present a formalism for analysis of linear Cauchy data on a Kottler metric. Our method removes redundancy due to gauge transformations and constraints. A set of four gauge-invariant, scalar functions on the Cauchy surface is produced and shown to contain full physical information from the initial data. The symplectic form of the theory and equations of motion are reformulated in terms of these invariants and some simple solutions are explored.
We investigate the interaction between dark energy and dark matter in the framework of irreversible thermodynamics of open systems with matter creation/annihilation. We consider dark energy and dark matter as an interacting two component (scalar field and "ordinary" dark matter) cosmological fluid in a homogeneous spatially flat and isotropic Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) Universe. The thermodynamics of open systems as applied together with the gravitational field equations to the two component cosmological fluid leads to a generalization of the elementary dark energy-dark mater interaction…
We analytically study the expansion of a Bose-Einstein condensate in a ring-shaped trap with an increasing central radius. The evolution of the ground state is described using a scaling transform. Additionally, the dynamics of excited azimuthal modes over the varying ground state is analyzed through a generalization of the Bogoliubov-de Gennes approach. Our results explain some of the features observed in recent experiments focused on testing the applicability of the system as a parallel of cosmological inflationary models. The radial dynamics, which corresponds to the inflaton field of the co…
A Bianchi type-I cosmological model in the presence of a magnetic flux along a cosmic string is investigated. A nonlinear spinor field is used to simulate the cosmological cloud of strings. It is shown that the spinor field simulation offer the possibility to solve the system of Einstein's equation without any additional assumptions. It is shown that the present model is nonsingular at the end of the evolution and does not allow the anisotropic Universe to turn into an isotropic one.
We present an exact analytical solution of the Einstein equations with cosmological constant in a spatially flat Robertson-Walker metric. This is interpreted as an isotropic Lemaitre-type version of the cosmological Friedmann model. Implications in the recent discovered cosmic acceleration of the universe and in the theory of an inflationary model of the universe are in view. Some properties of this solution are pointed out as a result of numerical investigations of the model.
Based on the proposed earlier by the Author approach to macroscopic description of scalar interaction, this paper develops the macroscopic model of relativistic plasma with a fantom scalar interaction of elementary particles. In the article the macroscopic equations for a statistical system with scalar interaction of particles are obtained and the complete set of macroscopic equations describing cosmological models is built.
We investigate the main features of the flat Friedmann-Lemaıtre-Robertson-Walker cosmological models in the f(T) teleparallel gravity. In particular, a general approach to find out exact cosmological solutions in f (T) gravity is discussed. Instead of taking into account phenomenological models, we consider as a selection criterion, the existence of Noether symmetries in the cosmological f(T) point-like Lagrangian. We find that only power-law models admit extra Noether symmetries. A complete analysis of such cosmological models is developed.
Theoretical descriptions of observable quantities in cosmological perturbation theory should be independent of coordinate systems. This statement is often referred to as gauge-invariance of observable quantities, and the sanity of their theoretical description is verified by checking its gauge-invariance. We argue that cosmological observables are invariant scalars under diffeomorphisms and as a consequence their theoretical description is gauge-invariant, only at linear order in perturbations. Beyond linear order, they are usually not gauge-invariant, and we provide the general law for the ga…
We consider black holes which form from an initially spherically symmetric super-Hubble perturbation of a cosmological background filled by a perfect fluid $p=w ρ$ with $w\in (0,1]$. Previous work has shown that when $w = 1/3$ (radiation), there is a critical threshold for black hole formation ($δ_c$), which, to a very good approximation, only depends upon the curvature of the compaction function around its peak value. We find that this generalizes to all $w\gtrsim 1/3$; for smaller $w$s the knowledge of the full shape of the compaction function is necessary. We provide analytic approximations…
By means of a toy Swiss-cheese cosmological model we will discuss how to set up and carry out in a physically meaningful way the idea of back-reaction, according to which dark energy could be an effective source. We will follow two distinct approaches. One is focused on how cosmological observables are affected by inhomogeneities, while the other is focused on a theoretical description of the inhomogeneous universe by means of a mean-field description.
We propose a relativistically covariant model of interacting dark energy based on the principle of least action. The cosmological term $Λ$ in the gravitational Lagrangian is a function of the trace of the energy--momentum tensor $T$. We find that the $Λ(T)$ gravity is more general than the Palatini $f(R)$ gravity, and reduces to the latter if we neglect the pressure of matter. We show that recent cosmological data favor a variable cosmological constant and are consistent with the $Λ(T)$ gravity, without knowing the specific function $Λ(T)$.
We construct analytical initial data for a slowly moving and rotating black hole for generic orientations of the linear momentum and the spin. We solve the Hamiltonian constraint approximately and work out the properties of the apparent horizon and show the dependence of its shape on the angle between the spin and the linear momentum. In particular a dimple, whose location depends on the mentioned angle, arises on the 2-sphere geometry of the apparent horizon. We exclusively work in the case of conformally flat initial metrics.
In the context of extended Teleparallel gravity theories with a 3+1 dimensions Gauss-Bonnet analog term, we address the possibility of these theories reproducing several well-known cosmological bouncing scenarios in a four-dimensional Friedmann-Lemaître-Robertson-Walker geometry. We shall study which types of gravitational Lagrangians are capable of reconstructing bouncing solutions provided by analytical expressions for symmetric, oscillatory, superbounce, the matter bounce and singular bounce. Some of the Lagrangians discovered are both analytical at the origin having Minkowski and Schwarzsc…
Here we analysed a particular type of $F(R)$ gravity, the so-called exponential gravity which includes an exponential function of the Ricci scalar in the action. Such term represents a correction to the usual Hilbert-Einstein action. By using Supernovae Ia, Barionic Acoustic Oscillations, Cosmic Microwave Background and $H(z)$ data, the free parameters of the model are well constrained. The results show that such corrections to General Relativity become important at cosmological scales and at late-times, providing an alternative to the dark energy problem. In addition, the fits do not determin…
Recently, Hütsi et al.[arXiv:2105.09328] critiqued our work that reconsidered the mathematical description of cosmological black holes. In this short comment, we highlight some of the conceptual issues with this criticism in relation to the interpretation of the quasi-local Misner-Sharp mass, and the fact that our description of cosmological black holes does not impose any assumptions about matter accretion.
The present work analyzes the various conditions in which there can be a bouncing universe solution in f(R) gravity. In the article an interesting method, to analyze the bouncing FRW solutions in a spatially flat universe using f(R) gravity models using an effective Einstein frame description of the process, is presented. The analysis shows that a cosmological bounce in the f(R) theory need not be described by an equivalent bounce in the Einstein frame description of the process where actually there may be no bounce at all. Nevertheless the Einstein frame description of the bouncing phenomena …
We study quantum cosmology with conformal matter comprising a perfect radiation fluid and a number of conformally coupled scalar fields. Focusing initially on the collective coordinates (minisuperspace) associated with homogeneous, isotropic backgrounds, we are able to perform the quantum gravity path integral exactly. The evolution describes a "perfect bounce", in which the Universe passes smoothly through the singularity. We extend the analysis to spatially flat, anisotropic universes, treated exactly, and to generic inhomogeneous, anisotropic perturbations treated at linear and nonlinear or…
We investigate the interaction between scalar fields and radiation in the framework of warm inflationary models by using the irreversible thermodynamics of open systems with matter creation/annihilation. We consider the scalar fields and radiation as an interacting two component cosmological fluid in a homogeneous, spatially flat and isotropic Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) Universe. The thermodynamics of open systems as applied together with the gravitational field equations to the two component cosmological fluid leads to a generalization of the elementary scalar field-radiation interactio…
In this thesis, we aim to understand the microscopic details and origin of the Cosmological Horizon, produced by a static observer in four-dimensional de Sitter (dS$_4$) spacetime. We consider a deformed extension of dS spacetime by means of a single $\mathbb Z_q$ quotient, which resembles an Orbifold geometry. The Orbifold parameter induces a pair of codimension two minimal surfaces given by 2-spheres in the Euclidean geometry. Using dimensional reduction on the two-dimensional plane where the minimal surfaces have support, we use the Liouville field theory and the Kerr/CFT mechanism in order…
Unimodular gravity is an appealing approach to address the cosmological constant problem. In this scenario, the vacuum energy density of quantum fields does not gravitate and the cosmological constant appears merely as an integration constant. Recently, it has been shown that energy diffusion that may arise in quantum gravity and in theories with spontaneous collapse is compatible with this framework by virtue of its restricted diffeomorphism invariance. New studies suggest that this phenomenon could lead to higher-order equations in the context of homogeneous and isotropic Universe, affecting…
In this paper we demonstrate that with vacuum $F(G)$ gravity it is possible to describe the unification of late and early-time acceleration eras with the radiation and matter domination era. The Hubble rate of the unified evolution contains two mild singularities, so called Type IV singularities, and the evolution itself has some appealing features, such as the existence of a deceleration-acceleration transition at late times. We also address quantitatively a fundamental question related to modified gravity models description of cosmological evolution: Is it possible for all modified gravity d…
