In this paper, we prove that if $E$ is a uniquely remotal subset of a real normed linear space $X$ such that $E$ has a Chebyshev center $c \in X$ and the farthest point map $F:X\rightarrow E$ restricted to $[c,F(c)]$ is partially statistically continuous at $c$, then $E$ is a singleton. We obtain a necessary condition on uniquely remotal subsets of uniformly rotund Banach spaces to be a singleton. Moreover, we show that there exists a remotal set $M$ having a Chebyshev center $c$ such that the farthest point map $F:\mathbb{R}\rightarrow M$ is not continuous at $c$ but is partially statistically continuous there in the multivalued sense.
If every point in a normed space X admits a unique farthest point in a given bounded subset E, then must E be a singleton?. This is known as the farthest point problem. In an attempt to solve this problem, we give our contribution toward solving it, in the positive direction, by proving that every such subset E in the sequence space `1 is a singleton.
The s-th forward difference sequence that tends to zero, inspired by the consecutive terms of a sequence approaching zero, is examined in this study. Functions that take sequences satisfying this condition to sequences satisfying the same condition are called s-ward continuous. Inclusion theorems that are related to this kind of uniform continuity and continuity are also considered. Additionally, the concept of $s$-ward compactness of a subset of $X$ via $s$-quasi-Cauchy sequences are investigated. One finds out that the uniform limit of any sequence of $s$-ward continuous function is $s$-ward…
In this paper we prove a characterization of continuity for polynomials on a normed space. Namely, we prove that a polynomial is continuous if and only if it maps compact sets into compact sets. We also provide a partial answer to the question as to whether a polynomial is continuous if and only if it transforms connected sets into connected sets. These results motivate the natural question as to how many non-continuous polynomials there are on an infinite dimensional normed space. A problem on the \emph{lineability} of the sets of non-continuous polynomials and multilinear mappings on infinit…
In this paper, we study some features of n-normed spaces with respect to norms of its quotient spaces. We define continuous functions with respect to the norms of its quotient spaces and show that all types of continuity are equivalent. We also study contractive mappings on n- normed spaces using the same approach. In particular, we prove a fixed point theorem for contractive mappings on a closed and bounded set in an n-normed space.
In this paper, we investigate the continuity of linear and sublinear correspondences defined on cones in normed spaces. We also generalize some known results for sublinear correspondences.
The prime objective of this paper is to develop the notion of absolute continuity of functions on a more general setting outside $\R$. For this we have considered a topological space which is a measure space as well. We have built axioms for making the $σ$- algebra and measure compatible with the topology of the space. These spaces are termed as \textit{topological measure space} (in short \textit{tms}). $\R^n$ with usual topology, Lebesgue $σ$-algebra and Lebesgue measure is a relevant example of tms. Further, we have presented a new tms structure on second countable metric spaces with the de…
The concept of b-linear functional and its different types of continuity in linear n-normed space are presented and some of their properties are being established. We derive the Uniform Boundedness Principle and Hahn-Banach extension Theorem with the help of bounded b-linear functionals in the case of linear n-normed spaces and discuss some examples and applications. Finally, we present the concept of weak*convergence for the sequence of bounded b-linear functionals in linear n-normed space.
In this paper, we will see that the Cartesian product of two 2-Banach spaces is also 2-Banach space and discuss some properties of closed linear operator in linear 2-normed space. We also describe the concept of different types of continuity of b-linear functional and derive the Uniform Boundedness Principle and Hahn-Banach extension theorem for b-linear functionals in the case of linear 2-normed spaces. We also introduce the notion of weak*convergence for the sequence of bounded b-linear functionals relative to linear 2-normed space.
We generalize some results of Borwein, Burke, Lewis, and Wang to mappings with values in metric (resp. ordered normed linear) spaces. We define two classes of monotone mappings between an ordered linear space and a metric space (resp. ordered linear space): $K$-monotone dominated and cone-to-cone monotone mappings. First we show some relationships between these classes. Then, we study continuity and differentiability (also in the metric and $w^*$ senses) of mappings in these classes.
The concept of fuzzy soft set was introduced for the first time by Maji et al. in 2002, and was considered sharply from applicable aspects to theoretical aspects by a wide range of researchers. In this paper the concept of fuzzy soft norm over fuzzy soft spaces has been considered and some properties of fuzzy soft normed spaces are studied. We also study the fuzzy soft topology over a crisp set by using the fuzzy soft subsets of it and the relationship between fuzzy soft topology and general topology is investigated. Fuzzy soft linear operator over fuzzy soft spaces is introduced and continuit…
An equilateral dimension of a normed space is a maximal number of pairwise equidistant points of this space. The aim of this paper is to study the equilateral dimension of certain classes of finite dimensional normed spaces. The well-known conjecture states that the equilateral dimension of any $n$-dimensional normed space is not less than $n+1$. By using an elementary continuity argument, we establish it in the following classes of spaces: permutation-invariant spaces, Orlicz-Musielak spaces and in one codimensional subspaces of $\ell^n_{\infty}$. For smooth and symmetric spaces, Orlicz-Musie…
The present work is devoted to an extension of the well-known Ehrling inequalities, which quantitatively characterize compact embeddings of function spaces, to more general operators. Firstly, a modified notion of continuity for linear operators, named \emph{Ehrling continuity} and inspired by the classical Ehrling inequality, is introduced, and then, a necessary and sufficient condition for Ehrling continuity is provided via arguments based on general topology. Secondly, general completely continuous operators between normed spaces are characterized in terms of (generalized) Ehrling type ineq…
The Voronoi diagram is a geometric object which is widely used in many areas. Recently it has been shown that under mild conditions Voronoi diagrams have a certain continuity property: small perturbations of the sites yield small perturbations in the shapes of the corresponding Voronoi cells. However, this result is based on the assumption that the ambient normed space is uniformly convex. Unfortunately, simple counterexamples show that if uniform convexity is removed, then instability can occur. Since Voronoi diagrams in normed spaces which are not uniformly convex do appear in theory and pra…
The main problem considered in this article is the following: if $\mathbf{F}$, $\mathbf{E}$ are normed spaces of continuous functions over topological spaces $X$ and $Y$ respectively, and $ω:Y\to\mathbb{C}$ and $Φ:Y\to X$ are such that the weighted composition operator $W_{Φ,ω}$ is continuous, when can we guarantee that both $Φ$ and $ω$ are continuous? An analogous problem is also considered in the context of spaces of holomorphic functions over (connected) complex manifolds. Additionally, we consider the most basic properties of the weighted composition operators, which only have been proven …
For metric spaces $X$ and $Y$, normed spaces $E$ and $F$, and certain subspaces $A(X,E)$ and $A(Y,F)$ of vector-valued continuous functions, we obtain a complete characterization of linear and bijective maps $T:A(X,E)\to A(Y,F)$ preserving common zeros, that is, maps satisfying the property \setcounter{equation}{15} \label{dub} Z(f)\cap Z(g)\neq \emptyset \Longleftrightarrow Z(Tf)\cap Z(Tg)\neq \emptyset for any $f,g\in A(X,E)$, where $Z(f)=\{x\in X:f(x)=0\}$. Moreover, we provide some examples of subspaces for which the automatic continuity of linear bijections having the property (\ref{dub})…
We study the K_0 group of the commutant modulo a normed ideal of an n-tuple of commuting Hermitian operators in some of the simplest cases. In case n=1, the results, under some technical conditions are rather complete and show the key role of the absolutely continuous part when the ideal is the trace-class. For a commuting n-tuple, n>2 and the Lorentz (n, 1) ideal, we show under an absolute continuity assumption that the commutant determines a canonical direct summand in K_0. Also, certain properties involving the compact ideal, established assuming quasicentral approximate units mod the norme…
In this paper, we extend the definition of qx-asymptotic function, for extended real-valued function that define on an infinite dimensional topological normed space without lower semicontinuity or quasi-convexity condition. As the main result, by using some asymptotic conditions, we obtain sufficient optimality conditions for existence of solutions to equilibrium problems, under weaker assumptions of continuity and convexity, when the feasible set is an unbounded subset of an infinite dimensional space. Also, as a corollary, we obtain a necessary and sufficient optimality conditions for existe…
A zone diagram is a relatively new concept which has emerged in computational geometry and is related to Voronoi diagrams. Formally, it is a fixed point of a certain mapping, and neither its uniqueness nor its existence are obvious in advance. It has been studied by several authors, starting with T. Asano, J. Matousek and T. Tokuyama, who considered the Euclidean plane with singleton sites, and proved the existence and uniqueness of zone diagrams there. In the present paper we prove the existence of zone diagrams with respect to finitely many pairwise disjoint compact sites contained in a comp…
We prove an extension theorem (with non-tangential limits) for vector-valued Baire one functions. Moreover, at every point where the function is continuous (or bounded), the continuity (or boundedness) is preserved. More precisely: Let $H$ be a closed subset of a metric space $X$ and let $Z$ be a normed vector space. Let $f: H\to Z$ be a Baire one function. We show that there is a continuous function $g: (X\setminus H) \to Z$ such that, for every $a\in \partial H$, the non-tangential limit of $g$ at a equals $f(a)$ and, moreover, if $f$ is continuous at $a\in H$ (respectively bounded in a neig…
