Recently, holey graphene (HG) has successfully synthesized at atomic precision of hole size and shape. This shows interesting physical and chemical properties for energy and environmental applications. Shaping of the pores also transforms semimetallic graphene to semiconductor holey graphene, which opens new door for its use in electronic applications. We systematically investigated the structural, electronic, optical and thermoelectric properties of HG structure using first-principles calculations. HG was found to have a direct band gap with 0.65 eV (PBE functional), 0.95 eV (HSE06 functional) and HSE06 functional is in good agreement with experimental results. For the optical properties, we use single-shot G0W0 calculations by solving the Bethe-Salpeter equation to determining the intralayer excitonic effects. From the absorption spectrum, we obtained the optical gap of 1.28 eV and a week excitonic binding energy of 80 meV. We have found the large values of thermopower of 1662.59 $μ$V/K and better electronic figure of merit, ZT$_{e}$ as 1.13 from the investigated thermoelectric properties. Our investigations exhibit strong and broad optical absorption in the visible light region, which makes HG monolayer a promising candidate for optoelectronic and thermoelectric applications.
We study the thermoelectric properties of three-dimensional topological insulators with many holes (or pores) in the bulk. We show that at high density of these holes the thermoelectric figure of merit ZT can be large due to the contribution of the conducting surfaces and the suppressed phonon thermal conductivity. The maximum efficiency can be tuned by an induced gap in the surface states dispersion through tunneling or external magnetic fields. The large values of ZT, much higher than unity for reasonable parameters, make this system a strong candidate for applications in heat management of …
We report on the enhancement of surface plasmon resonances in a holey bidimensional grating of subwavelength size, drilled in a gold thin film coated by a graphene sheet. The enhancement originates from the coupling between charge carriers in graphene and gold surface plasmons. The main plasmon resonance peak is located around 1.5 microns. A lower constraint on the gold-induced doping concentration of graphene is specified and the interest of this architecture for molecular sensing is also highlighted.
Motivated by a recent experiment that reported the synthesis of a new 2D material nitrogenated holey graphene (C$_2$N) [Mahmood \textit{et al., Nat. Comm.}, 2015, \textbf{6}, 6486], electronic, magnetic, and mechanical properties of nitrogenated (C$_2$N), phosphorated (C$_2$P) and arsenicated (C$_2$As) monolayer holey graphene structures are investigated using first-principles calculations. Our total energy calculations indicate that, similar to the C$_2$N monolayer, the formation of the other two holey structures are also energetically feasible. Calculated cohesive energies for each monolayer…
A bipartite lattice with chiral symmetry is known to host zero energy flat bands if the numbers of the two sublattices are different. We demonstrate that this mechanism of producing flat bands can be realized on graphene by introducing periodic vacancies. Using first-principle calculations, we elaborate that even though the pristine graphene does not exactly preserve chiral symmetry, this mechanism applied to holey graphene still produces single or multiple bands as narrow as ~0.5eV near the Fermi surface throughout the entire Brillouin zone. Moreover, this mechanism can combine with vacancy-e…

In this work, we investigate thermoelectric properties of junctions consisting of two partially overlapped graphene sheets coupled to each other in the cross-plane direction. It is shown that because of the weak van-der Waals interactions between graphene layers, the phonon conductance in these junctions is strongly reduced, compared to that of single graphene layer structures, while their electrical performance is weakly affected. By exploiting this effect, we demonstrate that the thermoelectric figure of merit can reach values higher than 1 at room temperature in junctions made of gapped gra…
We investigate the optoelectronic response of a graphene interface junction, formed with bilayer and single-layer graphene, by photocurrent (PC) microscopy. We measure the polarity and amplitude of the PC while varying the Fermi level by tuning a gate voltage. These measurements show that the generation of PC is by a photo-thermoelectric effect. The PC displays a factor of ~10 increase at the cryogenic temperature as compared to room temperature. Assuming the thermoelectric power has a linear dependence on the temperature, the inferred graphene thermal conductivity from temperature dependent m…
We report a thermoelectric study of graphene in both zero and applied magnetic fields. As a direct consequence of the linear dispersion of massless particles, we find that the Seebeck coefficient Sxx diverges with 1 /, where n2D is the carrier density. We observe a very large Nernst signal Sxy (~ 50 uV/K at 8 T) at the Dirac point, and an oscillatory dependence of both Sxx and Sxy on n2D at low temperatures. Our results underscore the anomalous thermoelectric transport in graphene, which may be used as a highly sensitive probe for impurity bands near the Dirac point.
Thermoelectric properties of Graphene Nanoribbons doped by magnetic impurities Fe and Co are carried out in room temperature. We report on a study of the band structure dependent properties such as electrical conductivity, charge of carriers and Seebeck coefficients. We investigate the thermoelectric properties using the Semi-classical Boltzmann method. The electronic band structure of doped nanoribbons are evaluated by using density-functional theory in which the Hubbard interaction is considered. In this work we compare the different types of the nanoribbons and their thermoelectric features…
We present first principles study of thermoelectric transport properties of sandwiched heterostructure of Graphene (G)/hexagonal Boron Nitride (BN)/G, based on Boltzmann transport theory for band electrons using the bandstructure calculated from the Density Functional Theory (DFT) based plane-wave method. Calculations were carried out for three, four and five BN layers sandwiched between Graphene layers with three different arrangements to obtain the Seebeck coefficient and Power factor in $T\sim 25-400$K range. Moreover, using Molecular Dynamics (MD) simulations with very large simulation cel…
Thermoelectric power (TEP) is measured in bilayer graphene for various temperatures and charge-carrier densities. At low temperatures, measured TEP well follows the semiclassical Mott formula with a hyperbolic dispersion relation. TEP for a high carrier density shows a linear temperature dependence, which demonstrates a weak electron-phonon interaction in the bilayer graphene. For a low carrier density, a deviation from the Mott relation is observed at high temperatures and is attributed to the low Fermi temperature in the bilayer graphene. Oscillating TEP and the Nernst effect for varying car…
The conductance and thermoelectric power (TEP) of graphene is simultaneously measured using microfabricated heater and thermometer electrodes. The sign of the TEP changes across the charge neutrality point as the majority carrier density switches from electron to hole. The gate dependent conductance and TEP exhibit a quantitative agreement with the semiclassical Mott relation. In the quantum Hall regime at high magnetic field, quantized thermopower and Nernst signals are observed and are also in agreement with the generalized Mott relation, except for strong deviations near the charge neutrali…
For future on-chip communication schemes, it is essential to integrate nanoscale materials with an ultrafast optoelectronic functionality into high-frequency circuits. The atomically thin graphene has been widely demonstrated to be suitable for photovoltaic and optoelectronic devices because of its broadband optical absorption and its high electron mobility. Moreover, the ultrafast relaxation of photogenerated charge carriers has been verified in graphene. Here, we show that dual-gated graphene junctions can be functional parts of THz-circuits. As the underlying optoelectronic process, we expl…
The thermoelectric properties of in plane heterostructures made of Graphene and hexagonal Boron Nitride (BN) have been investigated by means of atomistic simulation. The heterostructures consist in armchair graphene nanoribbons to the sides of which BN flakes are periodically attached. This arrangement generates a strong mismatch of phonon modes between the different sections of the ribbons, which leads to a very small phonon conductance, while the electron transmission is weakly affected. In combination with the large Seebeck coefficient resulting from the BN-induced bandgap opening or broade…
Graphene antidot lattices (GALs) are two-dimensional (2D) monolayers with periodically placed holes in otherwise pristine graphene. We investigate the electronic properties of symmetric and asymmetric GAL structures having hexagonal holes, and show that anisotropic 2D GALs can display a dimensional crossover such that effectively one-dimensional (1D) electronic structures can be realized in two-dimensions around the charge neutrality point. We investigate the transport and thermoelectric properties of these 2D GALs by using non-equilibrium Green function (NEGF) method. Dimensional crossover ma…
We study the thermoelectric performance of $90^0$-bent graphene nanoribbons containing nanopores for optimized design of multiple functional circuits including thermoelectric generators. We show that the thermal conductance of the $90^0$-bent ribbons is lower from few times to an order of magnitude compared to that of pristine armchair and zigzag straight ribbons. Consequently, the thermoelectric performance of the bent ribbons is better than its straight ribbon counterparts, in particular at high temperatures above 500 K. More importantly, the introduction of nanopores is demonstrated to stro…
Graphene is known to show a significant photo-thermoelectric effect that can exceed its photovoltaic contribution. Here, by utilizing this effect, we demonstrate a photovoltage measurement of cyclotron resonance in a double-back-gated h-BN/graphene/h-BN two-terminal device. A graphite local bottom gate was fabricated in addition to a p-doped Si global back gate. By tuning the two gate voltages, an in-plane graphene junction having an asymmetric carrier-doping profile was created. With the help of this asymmetric structure, the photo-thermoelectric voltage generated in the vicinity of the metal…
We numerically study the thermoelectric transports of Dirac fermions in graphene in the presence of a strong magnetic field and disorder. We find that the thermoelectric transport coefficients demonstrate universal behavior depending on the ratio between the temperature and the width of the disorder-broadened Landau levels(LLs). The transverse thermoelectric conductivity $α_{xy}$ reaches a universal quantum value at the center of each LL in the high temperature regime, and it has a linear temperature dependence at low temperatures. The calculated Nernst signal has a peak at the central LL with…
We consider theoretically a wide graphene ribbon, that on both ends is attached to electronic reservoirs which generally have different temperatures. The graphene ribbon is assumed to be deposited on a substrate, that leads to a spin-orbit coupling of Rashba type. We calculate the thermally induced charge current in the ballistic transport regime as well as the thermoelectric voltage (Seebeck effect). Apart from this, we also consider thermally induced spin current and spin polarization of the graphene ribbon. The spin currents are shown to have generally two components; one parallel to the te…
We numerically study the thermoelectric and thermal transport in trilayer graphene with different stacking orders in the presence of interlayer bias under a strong perpendicular magnetic field. In biased ABA-stacked case, we find that the thermoelectric conductivity displays different asymptotic behaviors with the varying of the temperature, similar to that of monolayer graphene. In the high temperature regime, the transverse thermoelectric conductivity $α_{xy}$ saturates to a universal value $2.77 k_B e/h$ at the center of each LL, while it displays a linear temperature dependence at low temp…
We report the enhancement of the thermoelectric power (TEP) in graphene with extremely low disorder. At high temperature we observe that the TEP is substantially larger than the prediction of the Mott relation, approaching to the hydrodynamic limit due to strong inelastic scattering among the charge carriers. However, closer to room temperature the inelastic carrier-optical-phonon scattering becomes more significant and limits the TEP below the hydrodynamic prediction. We support our observation by employing a Boltzmann theory incorporating disorder, electron interactions, and optical phonons.
Fast and controllable cooling at nanoscales requires a combination of highly efficient passive cooling and active cooling. While passive cooling in graphene-based devices is quite effective due to graphene's extraordinary heat-conduction, active cooling has not been considered feasible due to graphene's low thermoelectric power factor. Here we show that the thermoelectric performance of graphene can be significantly improved by using hBN substrates instead of SiO2. We find the room temperature efficiency of active cooling, as gauged by the power factor times temperature, reaches values as high…
We numerically study the disorder effect on the thermoelectric and thermal transport for bilayer graphene under a strong perpendicular magnetic field. In the unbiased case, we find that the thermoelectric transport has similar properties as in the monolayer graphene, i.e., the Nernst signal has a peak at the central Landau level (LL) with the value of the order of $k_B/e$ and changes sign near other LLs while the thermopower has an opposite behavior. We attribute this to the coexistence of particle and hole LLs around the Dirac point. When a finite interlayer bias is applied and a band gap is …
Although it was demonstrated that discrete molecular levels determine the sign and magnitude of the thermoelectric effect in single-molecule junctions, full electrostatic control of these levels has not been achieved to date. Here, we show that graphene nanogaps combined with gold microheaters serve as a testbed for studying single-molecule thermoelectricity. Reduced screening of the gate electric field compared to conventional metal electrodes allows control of the position of the dominant transport orbital by hundreds of meV. We find that the power factor of graphene-fullerene junctions can …
Using first-principles density functional perturbation theory based calculations of length-dependent lattice thermal conductivity (\k{appa} L ) and using our previously calculated results (Phys Rev B 95 085435 (2017)) of electrical transport, we report results of thermoelectric figure-of-merit (ZT ) of monolayer and bilayer Graphene. We find nearly ten-fold increase in ZT for the graphene sample doped with boron nitride and reduced sample length. We also compare \k{appa} L calculated using the iterative real space method with conventional analytical Callaway-Klemens method and obtain the flexu…
Fano and hybrid resonances of bilayer graphene could be attractive for thermoelectric devices. The special profile presented by such resonances could significantly enhance the Seebeck coefficient and the power factor. In this work, we study the thermoelectric properties of bilayer graphene single and double barrier structures. The charge carriers are described as massive chiral particles through an effective Dirac-like Hamiltonian. The Hybrid matrix method, the Landauer-Büttiker formalism and the Cutler-Mott formula are implemented to obtain the transmission, transport and thermoelectric prope…
Amplification of acoustic phonons due to an external temperature gredient ($\nabla T$) in Graphene was studied theoretically. The threshold temperature gradient $(\nabla T)_0^{g}$ at which absorption switches over to amplification in Graphene was evaluated at various frequencies $ω_q$ and temperatures $T$. For $T = 77K$ and frequency $ω_q = 12THz$, $(\nabla T)_0^{g} = 0.37Km^{-1}$. The calculation was done in the regime at $ql >> 1$. The dependence of the normalized ($Γ/Γ_0$) on the frequency $ω_q$ and the temperature gradient $(\nabla T/T)$ are evaluated numerically and presented graphically.…
We calculate the electronic and thermal transport properties of devices based on finite graphene antidot lattices (GALs) connected to perfect graphene leads. We use an atomistic approach based on the $π$-tight-binding model, the Brenner potential, and employing recursive Green's functions. We consider the effect of random disorder on the electronic and thermal transport properties, and examine the potential gain of thermoelectric merit by tailoring of the disorder. We propose several routes to optimize the transport properties of the GAL systems. Finally, we illustrate how quantum thermal tran…
This is a numerical study of thermoelectric properties of ballistic bilayer graphene in the presence of trigonal warping term in the effective Hamiltonian. We find, in the mesoscopic samples of the length $L>10\,μ$m at sub-Kelvin temperatures, that both the Seebeck coefficient and the Lorentz number show anomalies (the additional maximum and minimum, respectively) when the electrochemical potential is close to the Lifshitz energy, which can be attributed to the presence of the van Hove singularity in a bulk density of states. At higher temperatures the anomalies vanish, but measurable quantiti…
We investigate the electron transport and thermoelectric property of twisted bilayer graphene nanoribbon junction (TBGNRJ) in $0^o$, $21.8^o$, $38.2^o$ and $60^o$ rotation angles by first principles calculation with Landauer-Buttiker and Boltzmann theories. It is found that TBGNRJs exhibit negative differential resistance (NDR) in $21.8^o$ and $38.2^o$ rotation angles under $\pm$ 0.2 V bias voltage. More importantly, three peak ZT values of 2.0, 2.7 and 6.1 can be achieved in the $21.8^o$ rotation angle at 300K. The outstanding ZT values of TBGNRJs are interpreted as the combination of the red…
We investigate the transport properties of a graphene layer in the presence of Rashba spin-orbit interaction. Quite generally, spin-orbit interactions induce spin splittings and modifications of the graphene bandstructure. We calculate within the scattering approach the linear electric and thermoelectric responses of a clean sample when the Rashba coupling is localized around a finite region. We find that the thermoelectric conductance, unlike its electric counterpart, is quite sensitive to external modulations of the Fermi energy. Therefore, our results suggest that thermocurrent measurements…
Thermoelectric properties of finite graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) coupled to metallic electrodes are theoretically studied in the framework of tight-binding model and Green's function approach. When the zigzag sides are coupled to the electrodes, the electron transport through the localized edge states can occur only if the channel length between electrodes is smaller than the decay length of these localized zigzag edge states. When the armchair edges are coupled to the electrodes, there is an interesting thermoelectric behavior associated with the mid-gap states when the GNR is in the semicondu…
The enhancement of thermoelectric figure of merit ZT requires to either increase the power factor or reduce the phonon conductance, or even both. In graphene, the high phonon thermal conductivity is the main factor limiting the thermoelectric conversion. The common strategy to enhance ZT is therefore to introduce phonon scatterers to suppress the phonon conductance while retaining high electrical conductance and Seebeck coefficient. Although thermoelectric performance is eventually enhanced, all studies based on this strategy show a significant reduction of the electrical conductance, most oft…
Resolving low-energy features in the density of states (DOS) holds the key to understanding wide variety of rich novel phenomena in graphene based 2D heterostructures. Lifshitz transition in bilayer graphene (BLG) arising from trigonal warping has been established theoretically and experimentally. Nevertheless, the experimental realization of its effects on the transport properties has been challenging because of its relatively low energy scale ($\sim 1$ meV). In this work, we demonstrate that the thermoelectric power (TEP) can be used as an effective probe to investigate fine changes in the D…
Using density functional theory combined with a Green's function scattering approach, we examine the thermoelectric properties of hetero-nanoribbons formed from alternating lengths of graphene and boron nitride. In such structures, the boron nitride acts as a tunnel barrier, which weakly couples states in the graphene, to form mini-bands . In un-doped nanoribbons, the mini bands are symmetrically positioned relative to the Fermi energy and do not enhance thermoelectric performance significantly. In contrast, when the ribbons are doped by electron donating or electron accepting adsorbates, the …
We study the thermoelectric properties of rectangular graphene rings connected symmetrically or asymmetrically to the leads. A side-gate voltage applied across the ring allows for the precise control of the electric current flowing through the system. The transmission coefficient of the rings manifests Breit-Wigner line-shapes and/or Fano line-shapes, depending on the connection configuration, the width of nanoribbons forming the ring and the side-gate voltage. We find that the thermopower and the figure of merit are greatly enhanced when the chemical potential is tuned close to resonances. Su…
We find that the empirical relation between the longitudinal and Hall resistivities (i.e. Rxx and Rxy) and its counterpart between the Seebeck and Nernst coefficients (i.e. Sxx and Sxy), both originally discovered in two-dimensional electron gases, hold remarkably well for graphene in the quantum transport regime except near the Dirac point. The validity of the relations is cross-examined by independently varying the magnetic field and the carrier density in graphene. We demonstrate that the pre-factor, α_s, does not depend on carrier density in graphene. By tuning the carrier mobility therefo…
The introduction of 'twist' or relative rotation between two atomically thin van der Waals (vdW) membranes gives rise to periodic Moire potential, leading to a substantial altercation of the band structure of the planar assembly. While most of the recent experiments primarily focus on the electronic-band hybridization by probing in-plane transport properties, here we report out-of-plane thermoelectric measurements across the van der Waals gap in twisted bilayer graphene (tBLG), which exhibits an interplay of twist-dependent inter-layer electronic and phononic hybridization. We show that at a l…
Graphene's high mobility and Fermi velocity, combined with its constant light absorption in the visible to far-infrared range, make it an ideal material to fabricate high-speed and ultra-broadband photodetectors. However, the precise mechanism of photodetection is still debated. Here, we report wavelength and polarization dependent measurements of metal-graphene-metal photodetectors. This allows us to quantify and control the relative contributions of both photo-thermo- and photoelectric effects, both contributing to the overall photoresponse. This paves the way for a more efficient photodetec…
We performed electric and thermoelectric transport measurements of bilayer graphene in a magnetic field up to 15 Tesla. The transverse thermoelectric conductivity $\rmα_{xy}$, determined from four transport coefficients, attains a peak value of $\rmα_{xy, peak}$ whenever chemical potential lies in the center of a Landau level. The temperature dependence of $\rmα_{xy, peak}$ is dictated by the disorder width $\rm W_L$. For $\rm k_BT/W_L\leq$0.2, $\rmα_{xy, peak}$ is nominally linear in temperature, which gives $\rmα_{xy,peak}/T=0.19 \pm 0.03 n A/K^2$ independent of the magnetic field, temperatu…
We study thermoelectric devices where a single 18-annulene molecule is connected to metallic zigzag graphene nanoribbons (ZGNR) via highly transparent contacts that allow for injection of evanescent wave functions from ZGNRs into the molecular ring. Their overlap generates a peak in the electronic transmission, while ZGNRs additionally suppress hole-like contributions to the thermopower. Thus optimized thermopower, together with suppression of phonon transport through ZGNR-molecule-ZGNR structure, yield the thermoelectric figure of merit ZT ~ 0.5 at room temperature and 0.5 < ZT < 2.5 below li…
Thermoelectric measurements have the potential to uncover the density of states of low-dimensional materials. Here, we present the anomalous thermoelectric behaviour of mono-layer graphene-nanowire (NW) heterostructures, showing large oscillations as a function of doping concentration. Our devices consist of InAs NW and graphene vertical heterostructures, which are electrically isolated by thin ($\sim$ 10nm) hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) layers. In contrast to conventional thermoelectric measurements, where a heater is placed on one side of a sample, we use the InAs NW (diameter $\sim 50$ nm) …
The influence of nanostructuring and quantum confinement on the thermoelectric properties of materials has been extensively studied. While this has made possible multiple breakthroughs in the achievable figure of merit, classical confinement, and its effect on the local Seebeck coefficient has mostly been neglected, as has the Peltier effect in general due to the complexity of measuring small temperature gradients locally. Here we report that reducing the width of a graphene channel to 100 nm changes the Seebeck coefficient by orders of magnitude. Using a scanning thermal microscope allows us …
In recent years, new spin-dependent thermal effects have been discovered in ferromagnets, stimulating a growing interest in spin caloritronics, a field that exploits the interaction between spin and heat currents. Amongst the most intriguing phenomena is the spin Seebeck effect, in which a thermal gradient gives rise to spin currents that are detected through the inverse spin Hall effect. Non-magnetic materials such as graphene are also relevant for spin caloritronics, thanks to efficient spin transport, energy-dependent carrier mobility and unique density of states. Here, we propose and demon…
We study the electronic contribution to the main thermoelectric properties of a molecular junction consisting of a single quantum dot coupled to graphene external leads. The system electrical conductivity (G), Seebeck coefficient ($S$), and the thermal conductivity ($κ$), are numerically calculated based on a Green's function formalism that includes contributions up to the Hartree-Fock level. We consider the system leads to be made either of pure or gapped-graphene. To describe the free electrons in the gapped-graphene electrodes we used two possible scenarios, the massive gap scenario, and th…

We compute the electronic component of the thermal conductivity (TC) and the thermoelectric power (TEP) of monolayer graphene, within the hydrodynamic regime, taking into account the slow rate of carrier population imbalance relaxation. Interband electron-hole generation and recombination processes are inefficient due to the non-decaying nature of the relativistic energy spectrum. As a result, a population imbalance of the conduction and valence bands is generically induced upon the application of a thermal gradient. We show that the thermoelectric response of a graphene monolayer depends upon…
We present calculations of the electronic and thermal transport properties of graphene antidot lattices with a finite length along the transport direction. The calculations are based on a single orbital tight-binding model and the Brenner potential. We show that both electronic and thermal transport properties converge fast toward the bulk limit with increasing length of the lattice: only a few repetitions (~6) of the fundamental unit cell are required to recover the electronic band gap of the infinite lattice as a transport gap for the finite lattice. We investigate how different antidot shap…
Designing thermoelectric materials with high figure of merit $ZT=S^2 G T/κ$ requires fulfilling three often irreconcilable conditions, i.e., the high electrical conductance $G$, small thermal conductance $κ$ and high Seebeck coefficient $S$. Nanostructuring is one of the promising ways to achieve this goal as it can substantially suppress lattice contribution to $κ$. However, it may also unfavorably influence the electronic transport in an uncontrollable way. Here we theoretically demonstrate that this issue can be ideally solved by fabricating graphene nanoribbons with heavy adatoms and nanop…
Bismuth telluride (Bi2Te3) and its alloys are the best bulk thermoelectric materials known today. The stacked quasi-two-dimensional (2D) layers of Bi2Te3 were also identified as topological insulators. In this paper we describe a method for graphene-inspired exfoliation of crystalline bismuth telluride films with a thickness of a few atoms. The atomically thin films were suspended across trenches in Si/SiO2 substrates, and subjected to detail characterization. The presence of the van der Waals gaps allowed us to disassemble Bi2Te3 crystal into its quintuple building blocks - five mono-atomic s…
Thermoelectric power of a material, typically governed by its band structure and carrier density, can be varied by chemical doping that is often restricted by solubility of the dopant. Materials showing large thermoelectric power are useful for many industrial applications, such as the heat-to-electricity conversion and the thermoelectric cooling device. Here we show a full electric field tuning of thermoelectric power in a dual-gated bilayer graphene device resulting from the opening of a band-gap by applying a perpendicular electric field on bilayer graphene. We uncover a large enhancement i…
Impact of Valley Degeneracy on Thermoelectric Properties of Zigzag Graphene Nanoribbons with Staggered Sublattice Potentials and Transverse Electric Fields
Transport and thermoelectric properties of finite textured graphene nanoribbons (t-GNRs) connected to electrodes with various coupling strengths are theoretically studied in the framework of the tight-binding model and Green's function approach. Due to quantum constriction induced by the indented edges, such t-GNRs behave like serially-coupled graphene quantum dots (SGQDs). These types of SGQDs can be formed by tailoring zigzag GNRs (ZGNRs) or armchair GNRs (AGNRs). Their bandwidths and gaps can be engineered by varying the size of the quantum dot and the neck width at indented edges. Effects …
