Motivated by the problem of expanding single-trace tree-level amplitude of Einstein-Yang-Mills theory to the BCJ basis of Yang-Mills amplitudes, we present an alternative expansion formula in the gauge invariant vector space. Starting from a generic vector space consisting of polynomials of momenta and polarization vectors, we define a new sub-space as gauge invariant vector space by imposing constraints of gauge invariant conditions. To characterize this sub-space, we compute its dimension and construct an explicit gauge invariant basis from it. We propose an expansion formula in the gauge invariant basis with expansion coefficients being linear combinations of Yang-Mills amplitude, manifesting the gauge invariance of both expansion basis and coefficients. With help of quivers, we compute the expansion coefficients via differential operators and demonstrate the general expansion algorithm by several examples.
In this paper, we investigate the expansion of tree level multitrace Einstein-Yang-Mills (EYM) amplitudes. First, we propose two types of recursive expansions of tree level EYM amplitudes with an arbitrary number of gluons, gravitons and traces by those amplitudes with fewer traces or/and gravitons. Then we give many support evidence, including proofs using the Cachazo-He-Yuan (CHY) formula and Britto-Cachazo-Feng-Witten (BCFW) recursive relation. As a byproduct, two types of generalized BCJ relations for multitrace EYM are further proposed, which will be useful in the BCFW proof. After one ap…
The recursive expansion of tree level multitrace Einstein-Yang-Mills (EYM) amplitudes induces a refined graphic expansion, by which any tree-level EYM amplitude can be expressed as a summation over all possible refined graphs. Each graph contributes a unique coefficient as well as a proper combination of color-ordered Yang-Mills (YM) amplitudes. This expansion allows one to evaluate EYM amplitudes through YM amplitudes, the latter have much simpler structures in four dimensions than the former. In this paper, we classify the refined graphs for the expansion of EYM amplitudes into $\text{N}^{\,…
All tree-level amplitudes in Einstein-Yang-Mills (EYM) theory and gravity (GR) can be expanded in terms of color ordered Yang-Mills (YM) ones whose coefficients are polynomial functions of Lorentz inner products and are constructed by a graphic rule. Once the gauge invariance condition of any graviton is imposed, the expansion of a tree level EYM or gravity amplitude induces a nontrivial identity between color ordered YM amplitudes. Being different from traditional Kleiss-Kuijf (KK) and Bern-Carrasco-Johansson (BCJ) relations, the gauge invariance induced identity includes polarizations in the…
In four dimensions, a tree-level double-trace Einstein-Yang-Mills (EYM) amplitude with two negative-helicity gluons (the $(g^-,g^-)$-configuration) satisfies a symmetric spanning forest formula, which was derived from the graphic expansion rule. On another hand, in the framework of Cachazo-He-Yuan (CHY) formula, the maximally-helicity-violating (MHV) amplitudes are supported by the MHV solution of scattering equations. The relationship between the symmetric formula for double-trace amplitudes, and the MHV sector of Cachazo-He-Yuan (CHY) formula in four dimensions is still not clear. In this no…
Symmetries of Einstein-Yang-Mills (EYM) amplitudes, together with the recursive expansions, induce nontrivial identities for pure Yang-Mills amplitudes. In the previous work \cite{Hou:2018bwm}, we have already proven that the identities induced from tree level single-trace EYM amplitudes can be precisely expanded in terms of BCJ relations. In this paper, we extend the discussions to those identities induced from all tree level \emph{multi-trace} EYM amplitudes. Particularly, we establish a refined graphic rule for multi-trace EYM amplitudes and then show that the induced identities can be full…
Tree-level color-ordered Yang-Mills (YM) amplitudes can be decomposed in terms of $(n-2)!$ bi-scalar (BS) amplitudes, whose expansion coefficients form a basis of Bern-Carrasco-Johansson (BCJ) numerators. By the help of the recursive expansion of Einstein-Yang-Mills (EYM) amplitudes, the BCJ numerators are given by polynomial functions of Lorentz contractions which are conveniently described by graphic rule. In this work, we extend the expansion of YM amplitudes to off-shell level. We define different types of off-shell extended numerators that can be generated by graphs. By the use of these e…
It is shown how operator regularization can be used to obtain an expansion of the effective action in powers of derivatives of the background field. This is applied to massless scalar electrodynamics to find the one-loop corrections to the kinetic terms associated with both the scalar and vector fields in arbitrary gauge. This allows us to examine the radiatively induced masses arising in this model.
Tree-level scattering amplitudes for gravitons, gluons and Goldstone particles in any dimensions are strongly constrained by basic principles, and they are intimately related to each other via various relations. We study two types of "universal expansions" with respect to gauge bosons and Goldstone bosons: the former express tree amplitudes in Einstein gravity (Yang-Mills) as linear combinations of single-trace Einstein-Yang-Mills (Yang-Mills-$ϕ^3$) amplitudes with coefficients given by Lorentz products of polarizations and momenta; the latter express tree amplitudes in non-linear sigma model,…
It is shown that the formulation of the SU(3) Yang-Mills quantum Hamiltonian in the "flux-tube gauge" $A_{a1}=0$ for all a=1,2,4,5,6,7 and $A_{a2}=0$ for all a=5,7 allows for a systematic and practical strong coupling expansion of the Hamiltonian in $λ\equiv g^{-2/3}$, equivalent to an expansion in the number of spatial derivatives. Introducing an infinite spatial lattice with box length a, the "free part" is the sum of Hamiltonians of Yang-Mills quantum mechanics of constant fields for each box, and the "interaction terms" contain higher and higher number of spatial derivatives connecting dif…
We study the 3-point functions of gauge-invariant scalar operators in four dimensional $\mathcal{N}=2$ superconformal quiver theories using supersymmetric localization in the planar limit of a large number of colors. By exploiting a web of nontrivial relations, we show that the 3-point functions can be expressed in terms of the 2-point functions through exact Ward-like identities that are valid for all values of the coupling constant. In this way, using recent results about the 2-point functions, we are able to obtain the asymptotic strong-coupling expansion of the 3-point functions and of the…
