After the first predictions in seventies that in dense nuclear matter, for example, in neutron stars there could be pion condensation phenomenon, it was shown that at least s-wave pion condensation is unlikely to occur in such a medium in different approaches including NJL model consideration with neutrality and $β$-equilibrium condition. Then it has been found a condition that can promote this phenomenon in dense baryonic matter, it is chiral imbalance, so now it is interesting if this generation can survive rather strict requirement of electric neutrality and $β$-equilibrium. Here in this paper the generation of pion condensation in dense baryonic matter by chiral imbalance is investigated. It is shown that electric neutrality and $β$-equilibrium conditions do not spoil this phenomenon and this leads to interesting applications for physics of neutron stars. There are several possible mechanisms of generation of chiral imbalance in dense matter. In a view of latest and forthcoming NICER results and the first observed and possibly new events of neutron star mergers it is rather interesting to explore how possible chiral imbalance in neutron star can influence and change EOS and, hence, mass-radius relation. It is a first step in that direction.
We propose a new chirality-imbalance phenomenon arising in baryonic/high dense matters under a magnetic field. A locally chiral-imbalanced (parity-odd) domain can be created due to the electromagnetically induced $U(1)_A$ anomaly in high-dense matters. The proposed local-chiral imbalance generically possesses a close relationship to a spacial distribution of an inhomogeneous chiral (pion)-vector current coupled to the magnetic field. To demonstrate such a nontrivial correlation, we take the skyrmion crystal approach to model baryonic/high dense matters. Remarkably enough, we find the chirality…
The phase diagram of dense quark matter with chiral imbalance is considered with the conditions of electric neutrality and $β$-equilibrium. It has been shown recently that chiral imbalance can generate charged pion condensation in dense quark matter, so it was interesting to verify that this phenomenon takes place in realistic physical scenarios such as electrically neutral matter in $β$-equilibrium, because a window of pion condensation at dense quark matter phase diagram (without chiral imbalance) predicted earlier was closed by the consideration of these conditions at the physical current q…
We formulate kaon condensation in dense baryonic matter with anti-kaons fluctuating from the Fermi-liquid fixed point. This entails that in the Wilsonian RG approach, the decimation is effectuated in the baryonic sector to the Fermi surface while in the meson sector to the origin. In writing the kaon-baryon (KN) coupling, we will take a generalized hidden local symmetry Lagrangian for the meson sector endowed with a "mended symmetry" that has the unbroken symmetry limit at high density in which the Goldstone $π$, scalar $s$, and vectors $ρ$ (and $ω$) and $a_1$ become massless. The vector meson…
We investigated two pion condensed phases in the frame of the two flavor Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model at finite baryon density: the homogeneous and isotropic Sarma phase and inhomogeneous and anisotropic Larkin-Ovchinnikov-Fudde-Ferrell(LOFF) phase. At small isospin chemical potential $μ_I$, the Sarma state is free from the Sarma instability and magnetic instability due to the strong coupling and large enough effective quark mass. At large $μ_I$, while the Sarma instability can be cured via fixing baryon density $n_B$ to be nonzero, its magnetic instability implies that the LOFF state is more fav…
The properties of two-flavored massless Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model in (1+1)-dimensional $R^1\times S^1$ spacetime with compactified space coordinate are investigated in the presence of isospin and quark number chemical potentials $μ_I$, $μ$. The consideration is performed in the large $N_c$ limit, where $N_c$ is the number of colored quarks. It is shown that at $L=\infty$ ($L$ is the length of the circumference $S^1$) the pion condensation (PC) phase with {\it zero quark number density} is realized at arbitrary nonzero $μ_I$ and for rather small values of $μ$. However, at arbitrary finite values…
In this paper the phase structure of dense quark matter has been investigated in the presence of baryon, isospin and chiral isospin chemical potentials in the framework of (3+1)-dimensional Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model with two quark flavors. It has been shown that in the large-$N_{c}$ limit ($N_{c}$ is the number of colors of quarks) there exists a duality correspondence between the chiral symmetry breaking phase and the charged pion condensation one. The key conclusion of our studies is the fact that chiral isospin chemical potential generates charged pion condensation in dense quark matter wit…
We study the deep inelastic scattering (DIS) of a proton-targeted lepton in the presence of gluon condensation using gauge/gravity duality. We use a modified $AdS_5$ background where the modification parameter $c$ corresponds to the gluon condensation in the boundary theory. Firstly, when examining the electromagnetic field, we find that non-zero $c$ can increase the magnitude of the field. Our goal is to find the acceptable value of $c$ for this scattering and our method is based on setting the mass of the proton as an eigenvalue of the baryonic state equations of the DIS to find the acceptab…
We study baryonic matter with isospin asymmetry, including fully dynamically its interplay with pion condensation. To this end, we employ the holographic Witten-Sakai-Sugimoto model and the so-called homogeneous ansatz for the gauge fields in the bulk to describe baryonic matter. Within the confined geometry and restricting ourselves to the chiral limit, we map out the phase structure in the presence of baryon and isospin chemical potentials, showing that for sufficiently large chemical potentials condensed pions and isospin-asymmetric baryonic matter coexist. We also present first results of …

We study the asymmetric nuclear matter using a holographic QCD model by introducing a baryonic charge in the infrared boundary. We first show that, in the normal hadron phase, the predicted values of the symmetry energy and it's slope parameter are comparable with the empirical values. We find that the phase transition from the normal phase to the pion condensation phase is delayed compared with the pure mesonic matter: The critical chemical potential is larger than the pion mass which is obtained for the pure mesonic matter. We also show that, in the pion condensation phase, the pion contribu…
The phase structure of dense quark matter in the two color case has been investigated with nonzero baryon $μ_B$, isospin $μ_I$ and chiral isospin $μ_{I5}$ chemical potentials. %in the framework of Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model with quark-antiquark and quark-quark interaction channels. It has been shown in the mean-field approximation that there exist three dualities, one of them between phases with spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking and condensation of charged pions, found in the three color case. The other two dual symmetries between the phase with condensation of charged pions and the phase wi…

In this paper the phase structure of the dense quark matter has been investigated in the presence of baryon $μ_B$, isospin $μ_I$, chiral $μ_{5}$ and chiral isospin $μ_{I5}$ chemical potentials in the framework of Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. It has been shown that in the large-$N_{c}$ limit ($N_{c}$ is the number of quark colours) there exist three duality correspondences in the model. The first duality is between the chiral symmetry breaking and the charged pion condensation phenomena. And there are two new dualities that hold only for chiral symmetry breaking and charged pion condensation phen…
Isospin asymmetry is the well-known property of dense quark matter, which exists in the compact stars and is produced in heavy ion collisions. On the other hand, the chiral imbalance between left- and right-handed quarks is another highly anticipated phenomenon that could occur in the dense quark matter. To investigate quark matter under these conditions, we take into account baryon -- $μ_B$, isospin -- $μ_I$ and chiral isospin -- $μ_{I5}$ chemical potentials and study QCD phase portrait using NJL$_4$ model generalized to two massive quarks that could condense into the pion condensation. We ha…
We discuss the influence of a helicity imbalance on the phase diagram of dense QCD at finite temperature. We argue that the helical chemical potential is a thermodynamically relevant quantity in theories with the mass gap generation. Using the linear sigma model coupled to quarks, we show that the presence of the helical density substantially affects the phase diagram of dense quark matter. A moderate helical density makes the chiral phase transition softer while shifting the critical endpoint towards lower temperatures and higher baryon chemical potentials. As the helical density increases, t…
Recently it has been found that quantum chromodynamics (QCD) phase diagram possesses a duality between chiral symmetry breaking and pion condensation. For the first time this was revealed in the QCD motivated toy model. Then it was demonstrated in effective models as well and new additional dualities being found. We briefly recap the main features of this story and then discuss its applications as a tool to explore the QCD phase structure. The most appealing application is the possibility of getting the results on the QCD phase diagram at large baryon density. Taking the idea from large $1/N_{…
Scalar mediated interactions among baryons extend well above the Compton wavelength, when they are embedded in a Bose-Einstein condensate composed of the mediating particles. Indeed, this non-trivial environment results in an infinite-ranged interaction. We show that if the Dark Matter of the Universe is composed of such a condensate, the imprints of an interaction between baryonic and Dark Matter could be manifest as anomalies in the peak structure of the Cosmic Microwave Background.
In this short review we tried to give an outline of investigations of charged pion condensation (PC) in dense baryonic (quark) matter in the framework of effective Nambu--Jona-Lasinio (NJL) type models. The possibility of charged PC phase in dense quark matter with isospin asymmetry is investigated. First, it is demonstrated that this phase can be realized in the framework of massless NJL model. But the existence of this phase is enormously fragile to the values of current quark mass %.Then, and we show that charged PC phase is forbidden in electrically neutral dense quark matter with $β$-equi…
A chiral soliton lattice (CSL), proposed as the ground state of rotating baryonic matter at a finite density, is shown to be unstable in a large parameter region for two flavors owing to pion condensations, leading to two types of non-Abelian (NA) CSL phases (dimer and deconfining phases). We determine the phase diagram where the dimer phase meets the other phases and QCD vacuum at three tricritical points. The critical angular velocity for NA-CSLs is lower than the $η$-CSL. Each NA soliton carries an isospin, and an antiferro-isospin chain is formed leading to gapless isospinons. The anomalou…
The possibility of the pion condensation phenomenon in cold and electrically neutral dense baryonic matter is investigated in $β$-equilibrium. For simplicity, the consideration is performed in the framework of a NJL model with two quark flavors at zero current quark mass and for rather small values of the baryon chemical potential, where the diquark condensation might be ignored. Two sets of model parameters are used. For the first one, the pion condensed phase with finite baryon density is realized. In this phase both electrons and the pion condensate take part in the neutralization of the qu…
The nuclear symmetry energy figures crucially in the structure of asymmetric nuclei and, more importantly, in the equation of state (EoS) of compact stars. At present it is almost totally unknown, both experimentally and theoretically, in the density regime appropriate for the interior of neutron stars. Basing on a strong-coupled structure of dense baryonic matter encoded in the skyrmion crystal approach with a topology change and resorting to the notion of generalized HLS (hidden local symmetry) in hadronic interactions, we address a variety of hitherto unexplored issues of nuclear interactio…
In a previous paper, the standard model was generalized to include an electroweak axion which carries baryon plus lepton number, $B+L$. It was shown that such a model naturally gives the observed value of the dark energy, if the scale of explicit baryon number violation was chosen to be of the order of the Planck mass. In this paper, we consider the effect of the modulus of the axion field. Such a field must condense in order to generate the standard Goldstone boson associated with the phase of the axion field. This condensation breaks baryon number. We argue that this modulus might be associa…
In this paper the influence of chiral chemical potential $μ_5$ on the phenomenon of diquark condensation and phase structure of dense quark matter altogether is contemplated in the framework of effective two-color and two-flavor Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model. We show that the duality relations, found $μ_5=0$, are also valid for any value of $μ_5\neq0$. Hence the dualities seem to be a real fundamental feature of the phase diagram of two color quark matter, and besides they are a very powerful tool of studying the phase structure. In terms of dualities and the influence on the phase diagram chiral …
We show how the properties of the QCD axion change in systems at finite baryonic density, such as neutron stars. At nuclear saturation densities, where corrections can be reliably computed, we find a mild reduction of the axion mass and up to an order of magnitude enhancement in the model-independent axion coupling to neutrons. At moderately higher densities, if realized, meson (kaon) condensation can trigger axion condensation. We also study the axion potential at asymptotically large densities, where the color-superconducting phase of QCD potentially leads to axion condensation, and the mass…
A mini-review of non-uniform phases in quark matter is presented, with particular attention to the pion condensation, also known as chiral density waves or chiral spirals. The phase diagram of strongly-interacting matter may involve such a phase, placed on the quarkyonic island between the baryonic phase and the chirally-restored quark-gluon plasma.
A model that can simultaneously explain Dark Matter relic density and the apparent matter anti-matter imbalance of the universe has been recently proposed. The model requires $b$-hadron branching fractions to Dark Matter at the per mille level. The $b$-hadrons decay to a dark sector baryon, $ψ_{\rm{DS}}$, which has a mass in the region $940$ MeV/c$^{2} \leq m(ψ_{\rm{DS}}) \leq 4430$ MeV/c$^{2}$. In this paper, we discuss the sensitivity of the LHCb experiment to search for this dark baryon, covering different types of topology and giving prospects for Runs 3 and 4 of the LHC, as well as for th…
Gravity compresses the matter in the cores of neutron stars to densities which are significantly higher than the density of ordinary atomic nuclei, thus providing a high-pressure environment in which numerous particle processes - from the generation of new baryonic particles to quark deconfinement to the formation of Boson condensates and H-matter - may compete with each other. There are theoretical suggestions of even more `exotic' processes inside pulsars, such as the formation of absolutely stable strange quark matter, a configuration of matter even more stable than the most stable atomic n…

It has been shown in [32,33] in the framework of Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model with the assumption of spatially homogeneous condensates that in the large-$N_{c}$ limit ($N_{c}$ is the number of quark colours) there exist three dual symmetries of the thermodynamic potential, which describes dense quark matter with chiral and isospin imbalances. The main duality is between the chiral symmetry breaking and the charged pion condensation phenomena. There have been a lot of studies and hints that the ground state could be characterized by spatially inhomogeneous condensates, so the question arises if du…
Hot and dense quark matter with isospin and chiral imbalances is investigated in the framework of the (3+1)-dimensional Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model (NJL) in the large-$N_c$ limit ($N_c$ is the number of quark colors). Its phase structure is considered in terms of baryon -- $μ_B$, isospin -- $μ_I$ and chiral isospin -- $μ_{I5}$ chemical potentials. It is shown in the paper that (i) in the chiral limit there is a duality between chiral symmetry breaking (CSB) and charged pion condensation (PC) phenomena. (ii) At the physical point, i.e. at nonzero bare quark mass $m_0$, and temperature this dualit…
We explore a consistent way to extend the partially conserved axial vector current (PCAC) relationship and corresponding current algebra results in two strongly correlated directions: 1) towards a search for a set of systematic rules for the establishment of PCAC related relationships in a finite low momentum transfer region and for the extrapolation of the momentum transfer $q^2$ to zero when deriving the low energy PCAC results that can be compared to experimental data and 2) towards taking into account, besides the conventional one, the only other possibility of the spontaneous chiral symme…
Transition from baryonic matter to color-flavor-locked quark matter is described in terms of skyrmion matter changing into half-skyrmion matter. The intermediate phase between the density $n_p$ at which a skyrmion turns into two half skyrmions and the chiral transition density $n_c^{χSR}$ at which hadronic matter changes over to quark matter corresponds to a chiral symmetry restored phase characterized by a vanishing quark condensate and a {\em non-vanishing} pion decay constant. When hidden local fields are incorporated, the vector manifestation of Harada-Yamawaki HLS theory implies that as d…
The hadronic matter described as a skyrmion matter embedded in an FCC crystal is found to turn into a half-skyrmion matter with vanishing (in the chiral limit) quark condensate and {\em non-vanishing} pion decay constant at a density $n_{1/2S}$ lower than or at the critical density $n_c^{χSR}$ at which hadronic matter changes over to a chiral symmetry restored phase with deconfined quarks. When hidden local gauge fields and dilaton scalars -- one "soft" and one "hard" -- are incorporated, this phase is characterized by $a=1$, $f_π\neq 0$ with the hidden gauge coupling $g\neq 0$ but $\ll 1$. Wh…
