The tau neutrino is probably the least studied particle in the SM, with only a handful of interaction events being identified so far. This can in part be attributed to their small production rate in the SM, which occurs mainly through D_s meson decay. However, this also makes the tau neutrino flux measurement an interesting laboratory for additional new physics production modes. In this study, we investigate the possibility of tau neutrino production in the decay of light vector bosons. We consider four scenarios of anomaly-free U(1) gauge groups corresponding to the B-L, B-L_mu-2L_tau, B-L_e-2L_tau and B-3L_tau numbers, analyze current constraints on their parameter spaces and explore the sensitivity of DONuT and as well as the future emulsion detector experiments FASERnu, SND@LHC an SND@SHiP. We find that these experiments provide the leading direct constraints in parts of the parameter space, especially when the vector boson's mass is close to the mass of the omega meson.
We consider the sneutrino resonance reaction l^+ l^- -> sneutrino -> tau^+ tau^- in the MSSM without R-parity. We introduce new CP-violating and CP-conserving tau-spin asymmetries which are generated already at the tree-level if there is sneutrino - sneutrino-bar mixing and that are forbidden in the SM. It is remarkable that these spin asymmetries can reach ~75% around resonance for a sneutrino mass splitting of Δm ~ Γand ~10% for a splitting as low as Δm ~ 0.1Γ, where Γis the sneutrino width. We show that they are easily detectable already at LEP2 so long as the beam energy is within ~10 GeV …
We calculate penguin contributions to the lifetime splitting between the B_s and the B_d meson. In the Standard Model the penguin effects are found to be opposite in sign, but of similar magnitude as the contributions of the current-current operators, despite of the smallness of the penguin coefficients. We predict tau(B_s)/tau(B_d) -1 = ( -1.2 +/- 10.0 ) * 10^(-3) * (f_{B_s}/190 MeV)^2 where the error stems from hadronic uncertainties. Since penguin coefficients are sensitive to new physics and poorly tested experimentally, we analyze the possibility to extract them from a future precision me…
We show how the tau+ tau- spin correlations can be used to improve the recognition of the parent boson spin, and hence to identify scalar boson H --> tau+ tau- events from the vector boson Zγ--> tau+ tau- background in high energy accelerator experiments.
Higgs production in weak boson fusion with subsequent decay H to tau tau to e mu p_T_miss provides a means to measure Higgs Yukawa couplings and Higgs interactions to weak bosons. The potential precision of cross section measurements at a VLHC is investigated.
We study the longitudinal polarization of the tau lepton in B -> D tau nu decay. After discussing possible sensitivities of tau decay modes to the tau polarization, we examine the effect of charged Higgs boson on the tau polarization in B -> D tau nu. We find a relation between the decay rate and the tau polarization, and clarify the role of the tau polarization measurement in the search for the charged Higgs boson.
The possibility of detecting a Higgs boson through several production and decay channels is instrumental to the measurement of its couplings. In this paper we study the pp-> ttH(H-> tau tau) channel at the LHC, for the case of a scalar Higgs boson, and use the obtained results to improve on existing strategies toward a model independent determination of the Higgs boson couplings. The case of a scalar Higgs boson with mass below 140 GeV looks particularly promising.
The prospects for the measurement of the pseudoscalar admixture in the h-tau-tau coupling to a Standard Model Higgs boson of 120 GeV mass are discussed in a quantitative manner e+ e- collisions of 350 GeV centre-of-mass energy. Specific angular distributions in the h --> tau tau; tau --> rho nu decay chain can be used to probe mixing angles of scalar--pseudoscalar h-tau-tau couplings. In the discussion of the feasibility of the method, assumptions on the properties of a future detector for an e+ e- linear collider such as TESLA are used. The Standard Model Higgsstrahlung production process is …
We consider the contributions of the extra gauge boson Z' to the like sign $τ$ production process $e^-γ\to e^+(μ^+)τ^-τ^-$, induced by the tree-level flavor changing interactions. Since these rare production are far below the observable level in the Standard Model and other popular new physics models such as the minimal supersymmetric model, we find that Z' can give significant contributions to this process, and with reasonable values of the parameters in TC2 models, the cross section can reach several tens of fb and may be detected at the $eγ$ collisions.
The H to tau tau decays form the prime channel for the measurement of the Higgs boson state and tests of the CP invariance of Higgs boson couplings. A previous study has shown the viability of deep learning techniques for the measurement. In this paper, the study is expanded. Effects due to the partial modelling of experimental effects are discussed. Furthermore, systematics due to ? decay modelling for complex cascade decays to tau^pm to a_1^pm nu_tau to rho^0 pi^pm nu_tau to 3pi^\pm nu_tau are also addressed. Various parameterisations are considered using low-energy collision data.
The chiral structure of supersymmetric particle couplings involving third generation Standard Model fermions depends on left-right squark and slepton mixings as well as gaugino-higgsino mixings. The shapes and intercorrelations of invariant mass distributions of a first or second generation lepton with bottoms and taus arising from adjacent branches of SUSY cascade decays are shown to be a sensitive probe of this chiral structure. All possible cascade decays that can give rise to such correlations within the MSSM are considered. For bottom-lepton correlations the distinctive structure of the i…
We study the sensitivity of the LHC, with 20 inverse-fb of data, to lepton flavour violating Higgs boson decays h -> tau+ mu- (and h -> tau+ e-). We consider the large population of Higgses produced in gluon fusion, combined with leptonic decays of the tau, and estimate that the LHC could set a 95 % confidence level bound BR(h -> tau mu) < 4.5 \times 10^{-3}. This correponds to a coupling of order the Cheng-Sher ansatz y_{tau mu} = sqrt{m_tau m_mu/v^2}.
Discovery of the Higgs boson in any decay channel depends on the existence of event variables or cuts with sensitivity to the presence of the Higgs. We demonstrate the non-optimality of the kinematic variables which are currently expected to play the largest role in the discovery (or exclusion) of the Higgs at the LHC in the tau channel. Any LHC collaboration looking for opportunities to gain advantages over its rivals should, perhaps, consider the alternative strategy we propose.
The hadronic tau decay channel offers by far the best signature for heavy charged Higgs boson search at the LHC in the large $\tanβ$ region. By exploiting the distinct polarization of the tau and its large transverse mass, along with the accompanying missing--$p_T$, one can probe for a charged Higgs boson up to a mass of about 600 GeV in an essentially background-free environment. The transverse mass distribution of the tau jet also provides a fairly unambiguous estimate of the charged Higgs boson mass.
The evaluation, systematic analysis and numerical study of the semileptonic $τ$-lepton decays with two mesons in the final state has been made in the frame of the standard model extended by right handed neutrinos. In the analysis, heavy-neutrino nondecoupling effects, finite quark masses, quark and meson mixings, finite widths of vector mesons, chiral symmetry breakings in vector-meson--pseudoscalar-meson vertices and effective Higgs-boson--pseudoscalar-meson couplings have been included. Numerical estimates reveal that the decays $τ^-\to e^-π^-π^+$, $τ^-\to e^-K^-K^+$ and $τ^-\to e^-K^0\bar{K…
We discuss upper limits on the electric dipole moments (EDM) of the tau-lepton, heavy quarks, and W-boson, which follow from the precision measurements of the electron and neutron EDM.
We demonstrate how the transverse tau tau spin correlations can be used to determine whether a decaying Higgs boson is a mixed CP eigenstate, thereby directly probe the presence of CP violation in the neutral Higgs boson sector. We investigate the subsequent decay chain H --> tau+ tau- --> rho+ nu rho- nu --> pi+ pi0 nu pi- pi0 nu. The prospects for the measurement of the pseudoscalar admixture in the H-tau-tau coupling to a Standard Model Higgs boson with a mass of 120 GeV are quantified for the case of e+e- collisions at 350 GeV center-of-mass energy and 1 ab^{-1} integrated luminosity. The …
We present a feasibility study, to search for dark matter at the LHC, in events with one soft hadronically decaying tau lepton and missing transverse energy recoiling against a hard $p_{T}$ jet from initial state radiation. This methodology allows the search for Supersymmetry in compressed mass spectra regions, where the mass difference between the lightest neutralino, $\tildeχ_1^0$, and the stau (the tau superpartner), $\tildeτ$, is small. Several theoretical models predict a direct connection between thermal Bino dark matter and staus within this scenario. We show that compressed regions, no…
We demonstrate that a measurement of the impact parameter in one-prong tau decay can be useful for the determination of the Higgs boson parity in the H/A --> tau tau; tau --> rho nu decay chain. We have estimated that for a detection set-up such as TESLA, use of the information from the tau impact parameter can improve the significance of the measurement of the parity of the Standard Model 120 GeV Higgs boson to 4.5 sigma, and in general by factor of about 1.5 with respect to the method where this information is not used. We also show that the variation in the assumption on the precision of th…
We study the observability of the $\tautau$ decay mode of a Higgs boson produced in the $s$-channel at a muon collider. We find that the spin correlations of the $\tautau$ in $τ\to πν_τ, ρν_τ$ decays are discriminative between the Higgs boson signal and the Standard Model background. Observation of the predicted distinctive distribution can confirm the spin-0 nature of the Higgs resonance. The relative coupling strength of the Higgs boson to $b$ and $τ$ can also be experimentally determined.
In this work we study the sensitivity on the anomalous magnetic and electric dipole moments of the tau-neutrino in the framework of the $SU(2)_L\times U(1)_Y\times U(1)_{B-L}$ electroweak model at future $e^+e^-$ linear colliders as the ILC and CLIC. For our study we consider the process $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow ( Z, Z', γ) \to ν_τ\bar ν_τγ$. For center-of-mass energies of $\sqrt{s}=1000-3000\hspace{0.8mm}GeV$ and integrated luminosities of ${\cal L}=500-2000\hspace{0.8mm}fb^{-1}$, we derive $95 \% \hspace{1mm}$ C.L. limits on the dipole moments $|μ_{ν_τ}(μ_B)| \leq 6.28 \times 10^{-9}$ and $|d_…
If neutral Higgs bosons will be discovered at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) then an important subsequent issue will be the investigation of their CP nature. Higgs boson decays into tau lepton pairs are particularly suited in this respect. Analyzing the three charged pion decay modes of the tau leptons and taking expected measurement uncertainties at the LHC into account, we show that the CP properties of a Higgs boson can be pinned down with appropriately chosen observables, provided that sufficiently large event numbers will eventually be available.
Weak boson fusion is a copious source of intermediate mass Higgs bosons at the LHC. The additional very energetic forward jets in these events provide for powerful background suppression tools. We analyze the $H \to ττ$ decay mode for the Standard Model Higgs boson. A parton level analysis of the dominant physics backgrounds (mainly $Z \to ττ$ and Drell-Yan production of $τ$'s) and of reducible backgrounds (from $W+$ jet and $b\bar{b}$ production in association with two jets and subsequent leptonic decays) demonstrates that this channel allows the observation of $H \to ττ$ in a low background …
The consecutive steps of cascade decay initiated by H to tau tau can be useful for the measurement of Higgs couplings and in particular of the Higgs boson parity. In the previous papers we have found, that multi-dimensional signatures of the tau^pm to pi^pm pi^0 nu and tau^pm to 3pi^pm nu decays can be used to distinguish between scalar and pseudoscalar Higgs state. The Machine Learning techniques (ML) of binary classification, offered break-through opportunities to manage such complex multidimensional signatures. The classification between two possible CP states: scalar and pseudoscalar, is n…
Weak boson fusion promises to be a copious source of intermediate mass Higgs bosons at the LHC. The additional very energetic forward jets in these events provide for powerful background suppression tools. We analyze the subsequent H -> tau tau -> e mu pTmiss decay for Higgs boson masses in the 100-150 GeV range. A parton level analysis of the dominant backgrounds demonstrates that this channel allows the observation of H -> tau tau in a low-background environment, yielding a significant Higgs boson signal with an integrated luminosity of order 60 fb^-1 or less, over most of the mass range. We…

We estimate the power of the LHC in probing effects of strongly-interacting symmetry breaking sector through vector boson scattering in a complete partonic analysis.
We calculate the CP-violating rate asymmetry of H^\pm decays into tau and neutrino at one loop in the MSSM with complex parameters. We find that the asymmetry is typically of the order of 10^-3, depending mainly on the phases of the trilinear coupling A_τand of the gaugino mass M_1.
The results of calculation of light gluino contributions to Gamma(Z--->hadrons) and Gamma(tau--->hadrons) to O(alpha_s^3) are presented. The net effect in the case of Z decay is noticeable. For the tau width the effect is very large and, if a light gluino exists, suggests that alpha_s increases by more than 15% relative to the Standard Model analysis.
We discuss the case of simultaneous mixing of gauge bosons and mixing of fermions in a model independent way and for a variety of extra-fermion representations. In this context we analyze a class of lepton family violating processes, namely Z --> e tau, Z --> mu tau, Z --> e mu, mu --> e e e, tau --> e e e, tau --> mu mu mu, tau --> e mu mu and tau --> mu e e in the presence of one extra neutral gauge boson, Z', with universal, non-universal or family changing couplings. We derive bounds on the combined effect of Z-Z' mixing and ordinary--exotic lepton mixing.
We present a very promising method for a measurement of the Higgs boson parity using the H/A -> tau^+ tau^- --> rho^+ nu rho^- nu --> pi^+ pi^0 nu pi^- pi^0 nu decay chain. The method is both model independent and independent of the Higgs production mechanism. Angular distributions of the tau decay products which are sensitive to the Higgs boson parity are defined and are found to be measurable using typical properties of a future detector for an e^+ e^- linear collider. The prospects for the measurement of the parity of a Higgs boson with a mass of 120 GeV are quantified for the case of e^+ e…
Several scenarios beyond the minimal extension of the Standard Model still allow light non-standard Higgs bosons evading LEP bounds. We examine the mixing between a light CP-odd Higgs boson and $η_b$ states and its implications on a slight (but observable) lepton universality breaking in Upsilon decays which could be measured at the percent level at a (Super) B factory.
We study the longitudinal, transverse, and normal polarization components of the tau lepton in the decays $\bar{B}^0 \to D^{(\ast)} τ^- \barν_τ$ and discuss their role in searching for new physics (NP) beyond the standard model (SM). Starting with a model-independent effective Hamiltonian including non-SM four-Fermi operators, we obtain experimental constraints on different NP scenarios and investigate their effects on the polarization observables. In the SM the longitudinal and transverse polarizations of the tau lepton differ substantially from the corresponding zero lepton mass values of $P…
We propose an experimental test of a scenario in the Next-to-Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model in which both the lightest scalar and the lightest pseudoscalar Higgs bosons have masses around 125 GeV. The pseudoscalar can contribute significantly to the gamma.gamma rate at the LHC due to light Higgsino-like charginos in its effective one-loop coupling to two photons. Such charginos are obtained for small values of the mu_eff parameter which also results in enhanced b.b-bar and tau+.tau- rates compared to those expected for a Standard Model Higgs boson. This scenario should result in a clear…
We evaluate the lepton flavour violating (LFV) decays of HIggs bosons H->li+lj in several extensions of the SM, including both the effective lagrangian approach and several specific models. For the effective lagrangian case, we focus on dimension-six operators that induce LFV vertices for the Higgs and or Z bosons. For those operators whose coefficients can not be constrained by present data, LFV Higgs decays can have a B.R. of order 0.1-0.01. Those cases when current bounds apply, induce strong bounds for e-mu transitions, and the b.r. for H->e mu is of order 10^-9; however H->tau mu, tau e, …
We show how the transverse tau tau spin correlations can be used to measure the parity of the Higgs boson and hence to distinguish a CP-even H boson from CP-odd A in the future high energy accelerator experiments. We investigate the subsequent decays of the tau into pi nu and rho nu. The prospects for the measurement of the Higgs boson parity with a mass of 120 GeV are quantified for the case of e+ e- collisions of 500 GeV center of mass energy. The Standard Model Higgsstrahlung production process is used as an example.
We formulate the equivalence between the longitudinal weak-boson and the Goldstone boson as a criterion for sensitively probing the electroweak symmetry breaking mechanism and develop a precise power counting rule for chiral Lagrangian formulated electroweak theories. With these we semi-quatitatively analyze the sensitivities to various effective operators related to electrowaeak symmetry breaking via weak-boson scatterings at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
The process of top quark pair production at the ILC with subsequent decays of one of the top quarks to a charged Higgs boson and b-quark is considered. The charged Higgs decays to tau leptons whose polarization is the opposite to those coming from W bosons. This difference is reflected in the energy distributions of the tau decay products in the top quark rest frame, which can be reconstructed at the ILC using the recoil mass technique. We present an analysis including spin correlations, backgrounds, ISR/FSR and beamstrahlung, and show that a fit of the shape of the pion energy spectrum yields…
The opposite states of the $τ$ polarization resulting from the charged Higgs boson and the $W$ boson decays can be exploited to enhance the $H^\pm$ signal in the inclusive 1-prong hadronic decay channel of $τ$. We suggest practical methods of sharpening up the $H^\pm$ signature in the top quark decay at LHC using this idea. As a result one can carry on the charged Higgs boson search to within $\sim 20 GeV$ of the parent top quark mass over the full parameter space of the MSSM.
We discuss new physics that can show up in the $τ^+τ^-$ production process at the LHC but not in the dimuon or the dielectron channels. We consider three different generic possibilities: a new resonance in the Drell-Yan process in the form of a non-universal $Z^\prime$; a new non-resonant contribution to $q\bar{q}\to τ^+τ^-$ in the form of leptoquarks; and contributions from gluon fusion due to effective lepton gluonic couplings. We emphasize the use of the charge asymmetry both to discover new physics and to distinguish between different possibilities
Machine Learning (ML) techniques are rapidly finding a place among the methods of High Energy Physics data analysis. Different approaches are explored concerning how much effort should be put into building high-level variables based on physics insight into the problem, and when it is enough to rely on low-level ones, allowing ML methods to find patterns without explicit physics model. In this paper we continue the discussion of previous publications on the CP state of the Higgs boson measurement of the H to tau tau decay channel with the consecutive tau^pm to rho^pm nu; rho^pm to pi^pm pi^0 an…
We identify a class of supersymmetric SU(4)_c x SU(2)_L x SU(2)_R models in which imposing essentially perfect t-b-tau Yukawa coupling unification at M_GUT yields a mass close to 122-126 GeV for the lightest CP-even (SM-like) Higgs boson. The squark and gluino masses in these models exceed 3 TeV, but the stau and charginos in some cases can be considerably lighter. We display some benchmark points corresponding to neutralino-stau and bino-wino coannihilations as well as A-resonance. The well-known MSSM parameter tan beta is around 46-52.
We investigate the production of the lightest neutral Higgs boson in association with tau sleptons in the CP violating minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) at future high-energy $e^{+}e^{-}$ linear colliders. In parameter space of the constrained MSSM, the production cross section of $e^{+}e^{-}\to h^0\widetildeτ^+_1\widetildeτ^-_1$ can be very substantial at high energies. This process would provide a new production mechanism of neutral Higgs bosons and open a window to probe the Higgs-stau coupling and some soft supersymmetric breaking parameters at next linear colliders.
The doubly-charged scalar boson H^{--} is involved in several new physics models for generating neutrino masses. Depending on new physics models, H^{--} has the Yukawa interaction with a pair of left-handed charged leptons or a pair of right-handed ones. In this talk, we see that these two Yukawa interactions can be distinguished by measuring energy distributions of charged pions produced by decays of tau leptons if pair-produced H^{++} H^{--} can decay sufficiently into four charged leptons which involve one or two tau leptons. The information on the Yukawa interaction of H^{--} will help to …
In this paper we examine thoroughly the Higgs boson to mu tau decay via processes involving R parity violating couplings. By means of full one-loop diagrammatic calculations, we found that even if known experimental constraints, particularly including the stringent sub-eV neutrino mass bounds, give strong restrictions on some of the R parity violating parameters, the branching ratio could still achieve notable value in the admissible parameter space. Hence, the flavor violating leptonic decay is of interest to future experiments. We present here key results of our analysis. Based on the analys…
The doubly charged scalar boson (H^{\pm\pm}) is introduced in several models of the new physics beyond the standard model. The H^{\pm\pm} has Yukawa interactions with two left-handed charged leptons or two right-handed charged leptons depending on the models. We study kinematical properties of H^{\pm\pm} decay products through tau leptons in order to discriminate the chiral structures of the new Yukawa interaction. The chirality of tau leptons can be measured by the energy distributions of the tau decay products, and thus the chiral structure of the new Yukawa interaction can be traced in the …
We investigate the potential for measuring the relative couplings of a low-mass Higgs boson at the Large Hadron Collider using WH, ZH, and ttbarH production, where the Higgs boson decays to tau-lepton pairs. With 100/fb of sqrt(s) = 14 TeV pp collision data we find that these modes can improve sensitivity to coupling-ratio measurements of a Higgs boson with a mass of about 125 GeV/c^2.
The decays D(s)+- -> mu+- nu and D(s)+- -> tau+- nu have traditionally been used to measure the D(s)+- meson decay constant f_D(s). Recent measurements at CLEO-c and the B factories suggest a branching ratio for both decays somewhat higher than the Standard Model prediction using f_D(s) from unquenched lattice calculations. The charged Higgs boson (H+-) in the Two Higgs Doublet Model (Type II) would also mediate these decays, but any sizeable contribution from H+- can only suppress the branching ratios and consequently is now slightly disfavoured. It is shown that constraints on the parameters…
Once it is discovered, the determination of the various couplings of a new neutral gauge boson at a hadron supercollider will not be an easy task. We review several recent studies that have begun to examine this issue for both the SSC and LHC.
We explore the prospect of charged Higgs boson search in top quark decay at the Tevatron collider upgrade, taking advantage of the opposite states of $τ$ polarization resulting from the $H^\pm$ and $W^\pm$ decays. Methods of distinguishing the two contributions in the inclusive 1-prong hadronic decay channel of $τ$ are suggested. The resulting signature and discovery limit of $H^\pm$ are presented for the Tevatron upgrade as well as the Tevatron$^\star$ and the Ditevatron options.
We establish model independent bounds on the anomalous magnetic and electric dipole moments of the tau-lepton using the two-photon processes $γγ\to τ^+τ^-$ and $γγ\to τ^+τ^-γ$. We use ${\cal L}=10, 50, 100, 300, 500, 1000, 1500, 2000, 3000 \hspace{0.8mm}fb^{-1}$ of data collected with the future $e^+e^-$ linear collider such as the CLIC at $\sqrt{s}=380, 1500, 3000 \hspace{0.8mm}GeV$ and we consider systematic uncertainties of $δ_{sys}=0, 3, 5\hspace{1mm}\%$. Precise bounds at $95\%$ C. L. on the anomalous dipole moments to the tau-lepton $-0.00015\leq \tilde{a}_τ\leq 0.00017$ and $|\tilde{d}_…
Any axionlike particle (ALP) intrinsically possesses flavorful couplings to the standard model (SM) fermions arising as a consequence of the right-handed flavor rotation within the SM. In this paper we discuss this intrinsically flavored ALP, and explore the correlation of a minimal set of the couplings in a view of coherence in flavor physics observables. We focus particularly on the tau-lepton flavor violation (LFV). The ALP is assumed to be tau-philic on a current-eigenstate basis, a la Pecci-Quinn. The ALP has the intrinsic flavorful coupling structure for fermions, which allows coupling a…
The vector and axial-vector ALEPH hadronic spectral functions from $τ$-decay are used to probe potential quark-hadron duality violations (DV). This is done in the framework of finite energy QCD sum rules (FESR). A pinched integration kernel is introduced in the FESR in order to (a) quench potential duality violations on the real axis in the complex squared energy $s$-plane, and (b) effectively extend the analysis well beyond the kinematical $τ$-decay end-point where there is no longer data, i.e.\ in the range $s = 3 - 10 \,{\mbox{GeV}}^2$. In the vector channel this procedure is supplemented w…
We investigate the prospects for the discovery at the CERN Large Hadron Collider or at the Fermilab Tevatron of neutral Higgs bosons through the channel where the Higgs are produced together with a single bottom quark and the Higgs decays into a pair of tau leptons, $bg \to bϕ^0 \to bτ^+τ^-, ϕ^0 = h^0, H^0, A^0$. We work within the framework of the minimal supersymmetric model. The dominant physics background from the production of $bτ^+τ^-$, $jτ^+τ^-$ ($j = g, u, d, s, c$), $b\bar{b}W^+W^-$, $W+2j$ and $Wbj$ is calculated with realistic acceptance cuts and efficiencies. Promising results are …
We discuss the implications of the excesses in LHC Higgs boson searches on the gauge mediated supersymmetric standard model, for the mass range 120-140\,GeV. We find that a relatively heavy lightest Higgs boson mass in this range can be reconciled with light SUSY particles, $m_{\rm gluino}<2$\,TeV, if there are additional fields which couple directly to the Higgs boson. We also find that the mass of this extra matter can be predicted rather precisely in gauge mediation for a given Higgs boson and gluino mass.
We show that a detector placed near a beta-beam storage ring can probe lepton number violating interactions, as predicted by supersymmetric theories with R-parity non-conservation. In the presence of such interactions, nu_tau can be produced during beta-decay leading to tau leptons through weak interactions. Alternatively, electron neutrinos from beta-decay of radioactive ions can produce tau leptons in a nearby detector through these interactions. The muons from the decay of these tau leptons can be readily identified in a small iron calorimeter detector and will signal violation of R-parity.
We analyze the kinematic conditions under which the scattering of equivalent massive spin-1 vector bosons factorizes out of the complete process. In practice, we derive the conditions for the validity of the effective W approximation, proposed long ago but never established on a firm basis. We also present a parametric estimate of the corrections to the approximation and explicitly check its validity in two examples.
Supersymmetry with bilinear R-parity violation provides a predictive framework for neutrino masses and mixings in agreement with current neutrino oscillation data. The model leads to striking signals at future colliders through the R-parity violating decays of the lightest supersymmetric particle. Here we study charged scalar lepton decays and demonstrate that if the scalar tau is the LSP (i) it will decay within the detector, despite the smallness of the neutrino masses, (ii) the relative ratio of branching ratios Br({tilde tau}_1 --> e sum nu_i)/ Br({tilde tau}_1 --> mu sum nu_i) is predicte…
