We discuss upper limits on the electric dipole moments (EDM) of the tau-lepton, heavy quarks, and W-boson, which follow from the precision measurements of the electron and neutron EDM.
Lepton flavor violation in tau and mu processes is studied in the littlest Higgs model with T-parity. We consider various asymmetries defined in polarized tau and mu decays. Correlations among branching ratios and asymmetries are shown in the following lepton flavor violation processes: mu+ --> e+ gamma, mu+ --> e+ e+ e-, mu- A --> e- A (A = Al, Ti, Au and Pb), tau+ --> mu+ gamma, tau+ --> mu+ mu+ mu-, tau+ --> mu+ e+ e-, tau+ --> mu+ P (P = pi0, eta and eta'), tau+ --> mu+ V (V = rho0, omega and phi), tau+ --> e+ gamma, tau+ --> e+ e+ e-, tau+ --> e+ mu+ mu-, tau+ --> e+ P, tau+ --> e+ V, tau…
As of version 8.150 of Pythia, the isotropic decay model of tau-leptons has been replaced with sophisticated tau-lepton decay machinery. The decays and spin correlations for tau-leptons in Pythia 8 are described, including the spin correlation algorithm, the available tau-lepton production processes, the tau-lepton decay models, the user interface, and the implementation.
TAUOLA is a Monte Carlo generator dedicated to generating tau-lepton decays and it is used in the analysis of experimental data both at B-factories and LHC. TAUOLA is a long-term project that started in the 90's and has been under development up to now. In this note we discuss the status of the predominant hadronic tau-lepton decays into two ($Br \simeq 25.52\%$) and three pions ($Br \simeq 18.67\%$).
It has been pointed out recently that current low-energy constraints still allow for sizable flavor-changing decay rates of the 125 GeV boson into leptons, h -> tau ell (ell= e, mu). In this work we discuss the role of hadronic tau-lepton decays in probing lepton flavor violating couplings in the Higgs sector. At low energy, the effective Higgs coupling to gluons induced by heavy quarks contributes to hadronic tau decays, establishing a direct connection with the relevant process at the LHC, pp (gg)-> h -> tau ell. Semileptonic transitions like tau -> ell pi pi are sensitive to flavor-changing…
The tau anomalous magnetic moment (a_tau) and electric dipole moment (d_tau) have not yet been observed. The present bounds on their values are of order 10^-2 and 10^-17 e*cm, respectively. We propose to measure a_tau with a precision of O(10^-3) or better and improve the existing limits on d_tau using precise tau- -> l- nu_tau \bar{nu}_l gamma (l=e or mu) data from high-luminosity B factories. A detailed feasibility study of this method is underway.
For some time the measured value of tau-lepton mass continues to approach closer and closer a particular figure 1776.80 MeV predicted by an intrinsically composite model of three generations of leptons and quarks, introduced almost two decades ago. In the framework of this model, we recall briefly the argument standing behind our prediction.
Bounds On Anomalous Magnetic And Electric Moments Of Tau Lepton From LEP And Lepton Flavor Violation
Status of tau lepton decay Monte Carlo generator TAUOLA, and its main recent applications are reviewed. It is underlined, that in recent efforts on development of new hadronic currents, the multi-dimensional nature of distributions of the experimental data must be taken with a great care. Studies for H to tau tau; tau to hadrons indeed demonstrate that multi-dimensional nature of distributions is important and available for evaluation of observables where tau leptons are used to constrain experimental data. For that part of the presentation, use of the TAUOLA program for phenomenology of H and…
The tau lepton plays important role in the correlation between the low-energy neutrino oscillation data and the lepton flavor structure in heavy neutrino decay. We investigate the lepton flavor signatures with tau lepton at hadron collider through lepton number violating (LNV) processes. In the Type I Seesaw with U$(1)_{\rm B-L}$ extension, we study the pair production of heavy neutrinos via a $Z'$ resonance. We present a detailed assessment of the search sensitivity to the channels with tau lepton in the subsequent decay of heavy neutrinos. For the benchmark model with $Z'$ only coupled to th…
Testing CP, T and (V-A) Symmetry through Tau Leptons
Theoretical description of inclusive tau lepton hadronic decay is performed in the framework of Dispersive approach to QCD. The significance of effects due to hadronization is demonstrated. The approach on hand is capable of describing experimental data on tau lepton decay in vector and axial-vector channels. The vicinity of values of QCD scale parameter obtained in both channels testifies to the self-consistency of developed approach.
Using the effective Lagrangian formalism, the anomalous magnetic and electric dipole moments of the tau-lepton in the $μ^{+}μ^{-} \rightarrow μ^{+}γ^{*} γ^{*} μ^{-}\rightarrow μ^{+}τ\barτμ^{-}$ process at the future muon colliders at the $\sqrt{s}=1.5, 3$ and $6$ TeV are investigated. In addition, the bounds at the $95\%$ confidence level on the dipole moments of the tau-lepton using different integrated luminosities are estimated. It is shown that the $μ^{+}μ^{-} \rightarrow μ^{+}γ^{*} γ^{*} μ^{-}\rightarrow μ^{+}τ\barτμ^{-}$ process leads to a remarkable improvement in the existing experimen…
The tau lepton plays important role in distinguishing neutrino mass patterns and determining the chirality nature in heavy scalar mediated neutrino mass models, in the light of the neutrino oscillation experiments and its polarization measurement. We investigate the lepton flavor signatures with tau lepton at LHC upgrades, i.e. HL-LHC, HE-LHC and FCC-hh, through leptonic processes from doubly charged Higgs in the Type II Seesaw. We find that for the channel with one tau lepton in final states, the accessible doubly charged Higgs mass at HL-LHC can reach 655 GeV and 695 GeV for the neutrino mas…
The tau-lepton plays an important role in the physics program at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). It offers a probe in searches for New Physics and to measure parameters of the Standard Model. Spin of tau lepton is an interesting phenomenological quantity for separation of signal from background or in measuring properties of particles. A proper treatment of tau spin effects in the Monte Carlo simulations is important for understanding the detector acceptance as well as for the measurements/use of tau polarization and tau spin correlations. The TauSpinner is a tool to modify tau$spin effects in…
We study the feasibility of the Type-X two Higgs doublet model (THDM-X) at collider experiments. In the THDM-X, new Higgs bosons mostly decay into tau leptons in the wide range of the parameter space. Such scalar bosons are less constrained by current experimental data, because of the suppressed quark Yukawa interactions. We discuss a search strategy of the THDM-X with multi-tau lepton final states at International linear collider and Large Hadron Collider. By using the collinear approximation, we show that a four tau lepton signature (e^+e^- -> HA -> 4τ) can be a clean signal.
We study the four-body tau^+- -> nu_tau l^+- l^+- X^-+ decays where l=e or mu and X=pi, K, rho and K^* mesons. These decay processes violate the total lepton number (|Delta L|=2) and can be induced by the exchange of Majorana neutrinos. We consider an scenario where these decays are dominated by the exchange of only one heavy neutrino which produces an enhancement of the decay amplitude via the resonant mechanism. Searches for these novel decay channels with branching fractions sensitivities of (10^-7) can provide constraints on the parameter space of the Majorana neutrinos which are stronger …
It is shown that the electric dipole moment of the tau lepton several orders of magnitude larger than predicted by the standard model can be generated from mixings in models with vector like mutiplets. The EDM of the tau lepton arises from loops involving the exchange of the W, the charginos, the neutralinos, the sleptons, the mirror leptons, and the mirror sleptons. The EDM of the Dirac tau neutrino is also computed from loops involving the exhange of the W, the charginos, the mirror leptons and mirror sleptons. A numerical analysis is presented and it is shown that the EDMs of the tau lepton…
We calculate the rates for the charged lepton flavour violating (LFV) decays l_i -> l_j gamma, tau -> l pi, tau -> l eta('), mu^- -> e^-e^+e^-, the six three-body leptonic decays tau^- -> l_i^- l_j^+ l_k^- and the rate for mu-e conversion in nuclei in the Standard Model (SM3) extended by a fourth generation of quarks and leptons (SM4), assuming that neutrinos are Dirac particles. We also calculate branching ratios for K_L -> mu e, K_L -> pi^0 mu e, B_{d,s} -> mu e, B_{d,s} -> tau e and B_{d,s} -> tau mu. We find that the pattern of the LFV branching ratios in the SM4 differs significantly from…
We first study the hadronic lepton flavor violating tau decays within the littlest Higgs model with T-parity (including one or two pseudoscalars, or a vector resonance). We consider the case where only T-odd particles and partner fermions contribute, and also its extension including Majorana neutrinos coming from an inverse seesaw. In both cases our mean values lie only one order of magnitude below current upper limits, strengthening the case of searching for these decays in the quest for new physics.
Discovery of the Higgs boson in any decay channel depends on the existence of event variables or cuts with sensitivity to the presence of the Higgs. We demonstrate the non-optimality of the kinematic variables which are currently expected to play the largest role in the discovery (or exclusion) of the Higgs at the LHC in the tau channel. Any LHC collaboration looking for opportunities to gain advantages over its rivals should, perhaps, consider the alternative strategy we propose.
The doubly-charged scalar boson H^{--} is involved in several new physics models for generating neutrino masses. Depending on new physics models, H^{--} has the Yukawa interaction with a pair of left-handed charged leptons or a pair of right-handed ones. In this talk, we see that these two Yukawa interactions can be distinguished by measuring energy distributions of charged pions produced by decays of tau leptons if pair-produced H^{++} H^{--} can decay sufficiently into four charged leptons which involve one or two tau leptons. The information on the Yukawa interaction of H^{--} will help to …
In this work we study the consistency of a possible non-vanishing coupling $Hμτ$ of the order of $3.6\times 10^{-3}$ as pointed recently by the CMS and ATLAS collaborations, with measured lepton flavor violation processes involving quarkonium. We show that the most promising channel to confirm this excess is to look for the lepton flavor tau decay into a $f_0$ and $μ$ where the experimental limit could strongly improved with the new B factories as Belle II.
