We prove that, given integers $m\geq 3$, $r\geq 1$ and $n\geq 0$, the moduli space of torsion free sheaves on $\mathbb P^m$ with Chern character $(r,0,\ldots,0,-n)$ that are trivial along a hyperplane $D \subset \mathbb P^m$ is isomorphic to the Quot scheme $\mathrm{Quot}_{\mathbb A^m}(\mathscr O^{\oplus r},n)$ of $0$-dimensional length $n$ quotients of the free sheaf $\mathscr O^{\oplus r}$ on $\mathbb A^m$.
We study the moduli space of framed flags of sheaves on the projective plane via an adaptation of the ADHM construction of framed sheaves. In particular, we prove that, for certain values of the topological invariants, the moduli space of framed flags of sheaves is an irreducible, nonsingular variety carrying a holomorphic pre-symplectic form.
We provide generalizations of the notions of Atiyah class and Kodaira-Spencer map to the case of framed sheaves. Moreover, we construct closed two-forms on the moduli spaces of framed sheaves on surfaces. As an application, we define a symplectic structure on the moduli spaces of framed sheaves on some birationally ruled surfaces.
We prove a representability theorem for moduli functors of framed torsion-free sheaves on nonsingular complex projective surfaces, using formal geometry along a curve in the surface. This has as a consequence that a certain restriction morphism for moduli stacks of sheaves has fibers that are schemes.
We consider for structure groups ${\rm SU}(n)\,\subset\, {\rm SL}(n,\mathbb C)$ a densely defined toric structure on the moduli of framed parabolic sheaves on a three-punctured sphere, which degenerates to an actual toric structure. In combination with previous degeneration results, these extend to similar moduli for arbitrary Riemann surfaces.
We give a `geometrical' construction of an action of a Heisenberg algebra on the homology of the moduli spaces of torsion free sheaves on a complex smooth connected projective surface, framed along a smooth connected genus zero curve. This result generalizes Nakajima's construction for the Hilbert schemes of points.
Let $X$ be a smooth projective surface with a full strong exceptional sequence $\mathfrak{E}$. Under certain conditions, we describe the moduli spaces of framed sheaves on a line in $X$ via linear data, i.e. by realizing them as principal bundles over a stack of representations of the bound quiver associated to $\mathfrak{E}$.
A framed symplectic sheaf on a smooth projective surface $X$ is a torsion-free sheaf $E$ together with a trivialization on a divisor $D\subseteq X$ and a morphism $Λ^{2}E\rightarrow\mathcal{O}_{X}$ satisfying some additional conditions. We construct a moduli space for framed symplectic sheaves on a surface, and present a detailed study for $X=\mathbb{P}_{\mathbb{C}}^{2}$. In this case, the moduli space is irreducible and admits an ADHM-type description and a birational proper map into the space of framed symplectic ideal instantons.
This paper has been withdraw. A fully revised version with two new co-authors has been posted: "ADHM construction of perverse instanton sheaves", arXiv:1201.5657.
We construct monads for framed torsion-free sheaves on blow-ups of the complex projective plane at finitely many distinct points. Using these monads we prove that the moduli space of such sheaves is a smooth algebraic variety. Moreover we construct monads for families of such sheaves parameterized by a noetherian scheme S of finite type. A universal monad on the moduli space is introduced and used to prove that the moduli space is fine.
We show that there exists a fine moduli space for torsion-free sheaves on a projective surface, which have a "good framing" on a big and nef divisor. This moduli space is a quasi-projective scheme. This is accomplished by showing that such framed sheaves may be considered as stable pairs in the sense of Huybrechts and Lehn. We characterize the obstruction to the smoothness of the moduli space, and discuss some examples on rational surfaces.
We provide stacky generalizations of classical gauge-theoretic results inspired by Donaldson, the Uhlenbeck-Yau theorem and variants due to Bando and his collaborators. Moreover, we show an application of this machinery in the study of ALE spaces.
We define monads for framed torsion-free sheaves on Hirzebruch surfaces and use them to construct moduli spaces for these objects. These moduli spaces are smooth algebraic varieties, and we show that they are fine by constructing a universal monad.
We provide a generalization of Mehta-Ramanathan theorems to framed sheaves: we prove that the restriction of a $μ$-semistable framed sheaf on a nonsingular projective irreducible variety, of dimension greater or equal than two, to a general hypersurface of sufficiently high degree is again $μ$-semistable. The same holds for $μ$-stability under some additional assumptions.
In the first part of this paper we provide a survey of some fundamental results about moduli spaces of framed sheaves on smooth projective surfaces. In particular, we outline a result by Bruzzo and Markushevich, and discuss a few significant examples. The moduli spaces of framed sheaves on $\mathbb{P}^2$, on multiple blowup of $\mathbb{P}^2$ are described in terms of ADHM data and, when this characterization is available, as quiver varieties. The second part is devoted to a detailed study of framed sheaves on the Hirzebruch surface $Σ_n$ in the case when the invariant expressing the necessary …
In a previous paper, the first two named authors established an isomorphism between the moduli space of framed flags of sheaves on the projective plane and the moduli space of stable representations of a certain quiver. In the present note, we substitute one of the claims made, namely [5, Theorem 17], for a weaker claim regarding the existence of unobstructed points in the quiver moduli space. We also extend some of the results of the cited paper, concerning the maximal stability chamber within which the isomorphism mentioned holds, and the existence of a perfect obstruction theory for the qui…
Let $\mathbb{T}$ be the three dimensional torus acting on $\mathbb{P}^{3}$ and $\mathcal{M}^{\mathbb{T}}_{\mathbb{P}^{3}}(c)$ be the fixed locus of the corresponding action on the moduli space of rank $2$ framed instanton sheaves on $\mathbb{P}^{3}.$ In this work, we prove that $\mathcal{M}^{\mathbb{T}}_{\mathbb{P}^{3}}(c)$ consist only of non locally-free instanton sheaves whose double dual is the trivial bundle $\mathcal{O}_{\mathbb{P}^{3}}^{\oplus 2}$. Moreover, We relate these instantons to Pandharipande-Thomas stable pairs and give a classification of their support. This allows to compute…
Fix a ruled surface S obtained as the projective completion of a line bundle L on a complex elliptic curve; we study the moduli problem of parametrizing certain pairs consisting of a sheaf E on S and a map of E to a fixed reference sheaf on S. We prove that the full moduli stack for this problem is representable by a scheme in some cases. Moreover, the moduli stack admits an action by the group ${\mathbf C}^*$, and we determine its fixed-point set, which leads in some special cases to explicit formulas for the rational homology of the moduli space.
In this paper we show that the moduli space of framed torsion-free sheaves on a certain class of toric surfaces admits a filtrable Bialynicki-Birula decomposition determined by the torus action. The irreducibility of this moduli space follows immediately as a corollary. Moreover, using its filtrable decomposition we show that the moduli space shares the same homotopy type of an invariant proper compact subvariety having the same fixed points set. We start our study from the moduli space of framed torsion-free sheaves on the projective plane. Afterwards, we generalize the results to toric surfa…
Let X be a complex space and F a coherent O_X-module. A F-(co)framed} sheaf on X is a pair (E,f) with a coherent O_X-module E and a morphism of coherent sheaves f : F -> E (resp. f : E -> F). Two such pairs (E,f) and (E',f') are said to be isomorphic if there exists an isomorphism of sheaves g : E -> E' such that gof = f' (resp. f'og = f). A pair (E,f) is called simple if its only automorphism is the identity on E. In this note we prove a representability theorem in a relative framework, which implies in particular that there is a moduli space of simple F-(co)framed sheaves on a given compact …
We construct geometric realizations of the r-colored bosonic and fermionic Fock space on the equivariant cohomology of the moduli space of framed rank r torsion-free sheaves on CP^2. Using these constructions, we realize geometrically all level one irreducible representations of the affine Lie algebra \hat{gl(r)}. The cyclic group Z_k acts naturally on the moduli space of sheaves, and the fixed-point components of this action are cyclic Nakajima quiver varieties . We realize level k irreducible representations of \hat{gl(r)} on the equivariant cohomology of these quiver varieties.
We define complexes of vector bundles on products of moduli spaces of framed rank r torsion-free sheaves on the complex projective plane. The top non-vanishing Chern classes of the cohomology of these complexes yield actions of the r-colored Heisenberg and Clifford algebras on the equivariant cohomology of the moduli spaces. In this way we obtain a geometric realization of the boson-fermion correspondence and related vertex operators.
In the physicist's language, a brane in a hyperkahler manifold is a submanifold which is either complex or lagrangian with respect to three Kahler structures of the ambient manifold. By considering the fixed loci of certain involutions, we describe branes in Nakajima quiver varieties of all possible types. We then focus on the moduli space of framed torsion free sheaves on the projective plane, showing how the involutions considered act on sheaves, and proving the existence of branes in some cases.
Given a normal projective irreducible stack $\mathscr X$ over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero we consider framed sheaves on $\mathscr X$, i.e., pairs $(\mathcal E,ϕ_{\mathcal E})$, where $\mathcal E$ is a coherent sheaf on $\mathscr X$ and $ϕ_{\mathcal E}$ is a morphism from $\mathcal E$ to a fixed coherent sheaf $\mathcal F$. After introducing a suitable notion of (semi)stability, we construct a projective scheme, which is a moduli space for semistable framed sheaves with fixed Hilbert polynomial, and an open subset of it, which is a fine moduli space for stable framed sh…
Fix a scheme $X$ over a field of characteristic zero that is equipped with an action of a reductive algebraic group $G$. We give necessary and sufficient conditions for a $G$-equivariant coherent sheaf on $X$ or a bounded-above complex of $G$-equivariant coherent sheaves on $X$ to descend to a good quotient $X//G$. This gives a description of the coherent derived category of $X//G$ as an admissible subcategory of the equivariant derived category of $X$.
In the paper we use the theory of framed correpondences to construct Milnor-Witt transfers on homotopy modules. As a consequence we identify the zeroth stable $\mathbb{A}^1$-homotopy sheaves of smooth varieties with the zeroth homology of corresponding MW-motivic complexes and prove that the hearts of homotopy $t$-structures on the stable $\mathbb{A}^1$-derived category and the category of Milnor-Witt motives are equivalent.
When a reductive group $G$ acts linearly on a complex projective scheme $X$ there is a stratification of $X$ into $G$-invariant locally closed subschemes, with an open stratum $X^{ss}$ formed by the semistable points in the sense of Mumford's geometric invariant theory which has a categorical quotient $X^{ss} \to X//G$. In this article we describe a method for constructing quotients of the unstable strata. As an application, we construct moduli spaces of sheaves of fixed Harder-Narasimhan type with some extra data (an '$n$-rigidification') on a projective base.
We regard the pre-hyperkähler structure on the moduli space of framed flags of sheaves $\mathcal{F}(1,3,1)$ on the projective plane $\mathbb{P}^2$ via an adaptation of the ADHM construction of framed sheaves. Then, we study and categorize the degenerate points of the holomorphic pre-symplectic form presented in the moduli space.
We perform a study of the moduli space of framed torsion-free sheaves on Hirzebruch surfaces by using localization techniques. We discuss some general properties of this moduli space by studying it in the framework of Huybrechts-Lehn theory of framed modules. We classify the fixed points under a toric action on the moduli space, and use this to compute the Poincare polynomial of the latter. This will imply that the moduli spaces we are considering are irreducible. We also consider fractional first Chern classes, which means that we are extending our computation to a stacky deformation of a Hir…
We extend the methods of geometric invariant theory to actions of non--reductive groups in the case of homomorphisms between decomposable sheaves whose automorphism groups are non--reductive. Given a linearization of the natural action of the group $\Aut(E)\times\Aut(F)$ on Hom(E,F), a homomorphism is called stable if its orbit with respect to the unipotent radical is contained in the stable locus with respect to the natural reductive subgroup of the automorphism group. We encounter effective numerical conditions for a linearization such that the corresponding open set of semi-stable homomorph…
We show that the moduli spaces of stable sheaves on projective schemes admit certain non-commutative structures, which we call quasi NC structures, generalizing Kapranov's NC structures. The completion of our quasi NC structure at a closed point of the moduli space gives a pro-representable hull of the non-commutative deformation functor of the corresponding sheaf developed by Laudal, Eriksen, Segal and Efimov-Lunts-Orlov. We also show that the framed stable moduli spaces of sheaves have canonical NC structures.
We present a construction of framed torsion free instanton sheaves on a projective variety containing a fixed line which further generalizes the one on projective spaces. This is done by generalizing the so called ADHM variety. We show that the moduli space of such objects is a quasi projective variety, which is fine in the case of projective spaces. We also give an ADHM categorical description of perverse instanton sheaves in the general case, along with a hypercohomological characterization of these sheaves in the particular case of projective spaces.
We view the moduli space of semistable sheaves on a K3 surface as a global quotient stack, and compute its cotangent complex in terms of the universal sheaf on the Quot scheme. Relevant facts on the classical and reduced Atiyah classes are reviewed. We also define the notion of a symplectic stack, and show that it includes all moduli stacks of semistable sheaves on K3 surfaces.
In order to study wall crossing formula of Donaldson type invariants on the blown-up plane, Nakajima-Yoshioka constructed a sequence of blow-up/blow-down diagrams connecting the moduli space of torsion free framed sheaves on projective plane, and that on its blow-up. In this paper, we prove that Nakajima-Yoshioka's diagram realizes the minimal model program. Furthermore, we obtain a fully-faithful embedding between the derived categories of these moduli spaces.
We provide a description of the moduli space of framed autodual instanton bundles on projective space, focusing on the particular cases of symplectic and orthogonal instantons. Our description will use the generalized ADHM equations which define framed instanton sheaves.
The category of framed correspondences $Fr_*(k)$ and framed sheaves were invented by Voevodsky in his unpublished notes [V2]. Based on the theory, framed motives are introduced and studied in [GP1]. These are Nisnivich sheaves of $S^1$-spectra and the major computational tool of [GP1]. The aim of this paper is to show the following result which is essential in proving the main theorem of [GP1]: given an infinite perfect base field $k$, any $k$-smooth scheme $X$ and any $n\geq 1$, the map of simplicial pointed Nisnevich sheaves $(-,\mathbb{A}^1//\mathbb G_m)^{\wedge n}_+\to T^n$ induces a Nisne…
The category of framed correspondences $Fr_*(k)$, framed presheaves and framed sheaves were invented by Voevodsky in his unpublished notes [12]. Based on the theory, framed motives are introduced and studied in [7]. The main aim of this paper is to prove that for any $\mathbb A^1$-invariant quasi-stable radditive framed presheaf of Abelian groups $\mathcal F$, the associated Nisnevich sheaf $\mathcal F_{nis}$ is $\mathbb A^1$-invariant whenever the base field $k$ is infinite of characteristic different from 2. Moreover, if the base field $k$ is infinite perfect of characteristic different from…
We find locally free resolutions of length one for all semi-stable sheaves supported on curves of multiplicity five in the complex projective plane. In some cases we also find geometric descriptions of these sheaves by means of extensions. We give natural stratifications for their moduli spaces and we describe the strata as certain quotients modulo linear algebraic groups. In most cases we give concrete descriptions of these quotients as fibre bundles.
We prove a theorem classifying the equivariant $K$-theoretic pushforwards of the product of arbitrary Schur functors applied to the tautological bundle on the moduli space of framed rank $r$ torsion-free sheaves on $\mathbb{P}^2$, and its dual. This is done by deriving a formula for similar coefficients on Grassmannian varieties, and by thinking of the moduli space as a class in the $K$-theory of the Grassmannian, in analogy with the construction of the Hilbert scheme when the rank is one. Our motivations stem from some vertex operator calculus studied recently by Nekrasov, Okounkov, and the a…
The ADHM construction establishes a one-to-one correspondence between framed torsion free sheaves on the projective plane and stable framed representations of a quiver with relations in the category of complex vector spaces. This paper studies the geometry of moduli spaces of representations of the same quiver with relations in the abelian category of coherent sheaves on a smooth complex projective curve $X$. In particular it is proven that this moduli space is virtually smooth and related byrelative Beilinson spectral sequence to the curve counting construction via stable pairs of Pandharipan…
We develop a new approach to the study of supersymmetric gauge theories on ALE spaces using the theory of framed sheaves on root toric stacks, which illuminates relations with gauge theories on $\mathbb{R}^4$ and with two-dimensional conformal field theory. We construct a stacky compactification of the minimal resolution $X_k$ of the $A_{k-1}$ toric singularity $\mathbb{C}^2/\mathbb{Z}_k$, which is a projective toric orbifold $\mathscr{X}_k$ such that $\mathscr{X}_k\setminus X_k$ is a $\mathbb{Z}_k$-gerbe. We construct moduli spaces of torsion free sheaves on $\mathscr{X}_k$ which are framed a…
We decompose each moduli space of semistable sheaves on the complex projective plane with support of dimension one and degree four into locally closed subvarieties, each subvariety being the good or geometric quotient of a set of morphisms of locally free sheaves modulo a reductive or a nonreductive group. We find locally free resolutions of length one of all these sheaves and describe them.
We describe the closed strata that defines certain Quot schemes as closed subschemes in Grassmannians. The Quot schemes we consider are those parametrizing finite length $n$ quotient sheaves of the free, rank $p$ sheaf on projective $r$-space.
We study the moduli space of Gieseker semi-stable sheaves on the complex projective plane supported on sextic curves and having Euler characteristic one. We determine locally free resolutions of length one for all such sheaves. We decompose the moduli space into strata which occur naturally as quotients modulo actions of certain algebraic groups. In some cases we give concrete geometric descriptions of the strata.
Given a quasi-projective variety X with only Kawamata log terminal singularities, we study the obstructions to extending finite étale covers from the smooth locus $X_{\mathrm{reg}}$ of $X$ to $X$ itself. A simplified version of our main results states that there exists a Galois cover $Y \rightarrow X$, ramified only over the singularities of $X$, such that the étale fundamental groups of $Y$ and of $Y_{\mathrm{reg}}$ agree. In particular, every étale cover of $Y_{\mathrm{reg}}$ extends to an étale cover of $Y$. As first major application, we show that every flat holomorphic bundle defined on $…
We study Le Potier's strange duality on del Pezzo surfaces using quot schemes to construct independent sections of theta line bundles on moduli spaces of sheaves, one of which is the Hilbert scheme of n points. For n at most 7, we use multiple point formulas to count the length of the quot scheme, which agrees with the dimension of the space of sections on the Hilbert scheme. When the surface is the projective plane and n is arbitrary, we use nice resolutions of general stable sheaves to show that the quot schemes that arise are finite and reduced. Combining our results, we obtain a lower boun…
We show the existence of geometric quotients for the spaces of certain classes of morphisms of sheaves on projective space, modulo the canonical action of the group of automorphisms.
We construct good degenerations of Quot-schemes and coherent systems using the stack of expanded degenerations. We show that these good degenerations are separated and proper DM stacks of finite type. Applying to the projective threefolds, we derive degeneration formulas for DT-invariants of ideal sheaves and PT stable pair invariants.
We study the relationship between two stratifications on parameter spaces for coherent sheaves and for quiver representations: a stratification by Harder-Narasimhan types and a stratification arising from the geometric invariant theory construction of the associated moduli spaces of semistable objects. For quiver representations, both stratifications coincide, but this is not quite true for sheaves. We explain why the stratifications on various Quot schemes do not coincide and see that the correct parameter space to compare such stratifications is the stack of coherent sheaves. Then we relate …
