We reconsider a generation of up-type quark mass hierarchy in the standard model and clarify how a mechanism works to realize the hierarchy without severe fine tuning.
In this note we present a review of the little Higgs models that stabilize the electroweak by realizing the Standard Model Higgs as a pseudo-Goldstone boson.
A mechanism to have the quark mass hierarchy in the supersymmetric composite model is proposed. The source of the hierarchy is the kinetic-term mixing between composite quarks. Such mixing can be expected, if quarks are composite particles. A model in which the mechanism works is constructed, although it is not perfectly realistic because of some assumptions and unnaturalness.
We propose a dynamical mass-generation scenario which naturally realizes the mass hierarchy among the neutrinos, charged leptons and quarks, where the mass is dominated by the self-mass induced through the anomalous (i.e. non-minimal) gauge interactions.
The fact that quarks of the same electric charge possess a mass hierarchy is a big puzzle in particle physics, and it must be highly correlated with the hierarchy of quark flavor mixing. This review article is intended to provide a brief description of some important issues regarding quark masses, flavor mixing and CP violation. A comparison between the salient features of quark and lepton flavor mixing structures is also made.
A multiflavor model for dynamical chiral breaking reveals a solution highly suitable for stimulation of flavor mass hierarchy and mixings. The mechanism triggering the both phenomena simultaneously suppresses flavor changings. Thus, the main features of the observed quark system may spontaneously appear as inherent properties of a specific ground state.
$QCD$ renormalization for the top-quark mass is calculated in a mass geometrical mean hierarchy, $m_d m_b = m_s^2$ and $m_u m_t = m_c^2$. The physical mass, $m_t(m_t) = 160 {\pm} 50 GeV$ is obtained, which agrees very well with electroweak precision measurement.
The consequences of adding random perturbations (anarchy) to a baseline hierarchical model of quark masses and mixings are explored. Even small perturbations of the order of 5% of the smallest non-zero element can already give deviations significantly affecting parameters of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix, so any process generating the anarchy should in general be limited to this order of magnitude. The regularities of quark masses and mixings thus appear to be far from a generic feature of randomness in the mass matrices, and more likely indicate an underlying order.
In view of the quark mass hierarchy and in the assumption of the up-down parallelism, we derive two phenomenologically-favored patterns of Hermitian quark mass matrices from the quark flavor mixing matrix. We compare one of them with two existing {\it Ans$\it\ddot{a}$tze} proposed by Rosner and Worah and by Roberts {\it et al}, and find that only the latter is consistent with the present experimental data.
The possibility that the mass hierarchy is intimately associated with the compositeness level of the matters is proposed in supersymmetric gauge theory. This implies, for instance, that the preons constituting top quark consists of the ``prepreons'' binded by the same gauge force making the charm quark out of another preons. The exemplifying toy model illustrates how the hierarchy in the yukawa coupling constants in the up-quark sector is generated from the underlying gauge dynamics. It is also indicated that the incorporation of down-type quarks as elementary objects leads to unpleasant resul…
We discuss the quark masses in a top condensate model where not only two quark but also four quark composite states may exist. We show that the presence of the top color group SU(3)_1\times SU(3)_2 with the correct non anomalous quark representations can justify even in the absence of additional technicolor interactions a hierarchy of the quark masses where the light quark masses have the same size, the charm and bottom masses are higher and similar and the top is the heaviest.
In view of the observed strong hierarchy of the quark and lepton masses and of the flavor mixing angles it is argued that the description of flavor mixing must take this into account. One particular interesting way to describe the flavor mixing, which, however, is not the one used today, emerges, which is best suited for models of quark mass matrices based on flavor symmetries. We conclude that the unitarity triangle important for $B$ physics should be close to or identical to a rectangular triangle. CP violation is maximal in this sense.
Strong gauge and top-Yukawa couplings predicted in the presence of extra dimensions lead to a trickle-down effect of the top-coupling through the renormalization group equations for the quark Yukawa matrices. The matrix elements for the u and d-quarks get progressively smaller as one moves away from the dominant (33)-element revealing a hierarchical pattern for the mass matrices.
We introduce a new parameterisation of the effect of unknown corrections from new physics on quark and lepton mass matrices. This parameterisation is used in order to study how the hierarchies of quark masses and mixing angles are modified by random perturbations of the Yukawa matrices. We discuss several examples of flavour relations predicted by different textures, analysing how these relations are influenced by the random perturbations. We also comment on the unlikely possibility that unknown corrections contribute significantly to the hierarchy of masses and mixings.
It is shown that an idea proposed in 1996 that relates in a qualitatively correct way the inter-family mass hierarchies of the up quarks, down quarks, charged leptons, and neutrinos, can be combined with a predictive scheme recently proposed for relating quark mixing and neutrino mixing. In the resulting model, the entire flavor structure of the quarks and leptons is expressible in terms of two "master matrices": a diagonal matrix that gives the inter-family mass ratios, and an off-diagonal matrix that controls all flavor mixing.
A flavor structure with minimal parameters is proposed to address the fermion mass hierarchy and flavor mixing for quarks and leptons. Yukawa interaction is reconstructed in a new basis to show a homological flat structure for up-type quarks, down-type quarks, charged leptons and Dirac neutrinos. A $SO(2)_{LR}^f$ flavor symmetry is found from the hierarchy masses of quarks and leptons, which dominated CKM mixing for quarks and PMNS for leptons. Since the minimal flavor structure successfully addresses CKM and PMNS even in the mass hierarchy limit, mass hierarchy and flavor mixing are two indep…
We rewrite the Yukawa interactions of the standard model in terms of flavour-dependent vacuum structure to address the family mass hierarchy and CP violation in both the quark sector and lepton sector. It is realized for the first time that the Lagrangian only includes the same number of degrees of freedom as phenomenological observables with no requirement of extra particles or any new symmetry. The quark and lepton mass hierarchy arises as a natural result of the close-to-flat vacuum in flavour space. The CP violation in CKM and PMNS is explained as a general quantum phase between weak gauge…
Cascade global symmetry and multi-vacuum expectation values are combined to produce an {\bf initial} texture of the quark mass matrices. Required corrections to the initial texture zeros ({\bf ITZ)} are all at the order of $10^{-3}m_t$ or less. The possibility of {\bf radiative corrections} as the source of the complete mass matrices is briefly discussed.
A pattern of quark mass hierarchy and CP violation within the framework of low energy supersymmetry is described. By assuming some discrete symmetry among the three families, the quarks of the third family obtain masses at tree level. The second family obtains masses radiatively at one-loop level due to the soft breaking of the family symmetry. At this level, the first family remains massless by some degeneracy conditions of the squarks. As a result of R-parity violation, the sneutrino vacuum expectation values are nonvanishing. CP violation occurs through the superweak sneutrino exchange. Thi…
We stress that the observed pattern of flavor mixings can be partly interpreted by the quark mass hierarchy without the assumption of specific quark mass matrices. The quantitatively proper relations between the Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix elements and quark mass ratios, such as $$|V_{cb}| \approx |V_{ts}| \approx \sqrt{2} (\frac{m_s}{m_b} -\frac{m_c}{m_t}) [1 + 3 (\frac{m_s}{m_b} + \frac{m_c}{m_t} ) ],$$ are obtainable from a simple {\it Ansatz} of flavor permutation symmetry breaking at the weak scale. We prescribe the same {\it Ansatz} at the supersymmetric grand unified theory scale, and find…
We discuss the mass splitting between the the top and bottom quarks in a technicolor scenario. The model proposed here contains a left-right electroweak gauge group. An extended technicolor group and mirror fermions are introduced. The top-bottom quark mass splitting turns out to be intimately connected to the breaking of the left-right gauge symmetry. Weak isospin violation occurs within the experimental limits.
We study the mass spectrum of the quark sector in an special type I-like model with gauge symmetry $SU(3)_c \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)_X$. By considering couplings with scalar triplets at large ($\sim TeV$) and small ($\sim GeV$) scales, we obtain specific zero-texture mass matrices for the quarks which predict three massless quarks ($u,d,s$) and three massive quarks ($c,b,t$) at the electroweak scale ($\sim$ GeV). Taking into account mixing couplings with three heavy quarks at large scales predicted by the model, the three massless quarks obtain masses at small order that depends on the inv…
We propose a model for radiatively generating the hierarchy of the Standard Model (SM) fermion masses: tree-level top quark mass; 1-loop bottom, charm, tau and muon masses; 2-loop masses for the light up, down and strange quarks as well as for the electron; and 4-loop masses for the light active neutrinos. Our model is based on a softly-broken $S_{3}\times Z_{2}$ discrete symmetry. Its scalar sector consists only of one SM Higgs doublet and three electrically neutral SM-singlet scalars. We do not need to invoke either electrically charged scalar fields, or an extra $SU_{2L}$ scalar doublet, or…
The premise of an organizing quadratic hierarchy rule in lepton-quark flavor physics was used earlier for explanation of the hierarchy patterns of four generic pairs of flavor quantities 1) charged-lepton and 2) neutrino deviations from mass-degeneracy, 3) deviations of lepton mixing from maximal magnitude and 4) deviations of quark mixing from minimal one. Here it is shown that the quadratic hierarchy equation that is uniquely related to three flavor particle generations may have yet another important function. It determines two complementary values of the Dirac CP-violating phases in the qua…
Starting from the multi-local Klein-Gordon equations with Lorentz-scalar squared-mass operator we give a covariant quark representation of the general composite mesons and baryons with definite Lorentz transformation property. The phenomenologically observed hadron mass spectra is pointed out to satisfy possibly the approximate symmetry under the tilde U(4) transformation group concerning the spinor freedom of light constituent quarks, including the chiral transformation as a subgroup. This symmetry predicts the existence of new type of chiral mesons and baryons out of the conventional framewo…
Assuming the same form of all mass matrices as motivated by quark-lepton symmetry, we discuss conditions under which bi-large mixing in the lepton sector can be obtained with a minimal amount of fine tuning requirements for possible models. We assume hierarchical mass matrices, dominated by the 3-3 element, with off-diagonal elements much smaller than the larger neighboring diagonal element. Characteristic features of this scenario are strong hierarchy in masses of right-handed neutrinos, and comparable contributions of both lighter right-handed neutrinos to the resulting left-handed neutrino …
We construct a model realizing the inverse seesaw mechanism. The model has two types of gauge singlet fermions in addition to right-handed neutrinos. A required Majorana mass scale (keV scale) for generating the light active neutrino mass in the conventional inverse seesaw can be naturally explained by a "seesaw" mechanism between the two singlet fermions in our model. We find that our model can decrease the magnitude of hierarchy among the mass parameters by $\mathcal{O}(10^4)$ from that in the conventional inverse seesaw model. We also show that a successful resonant leptogenesis occurs for …
After the successful investigation and confirmation of non zero $θ_{13}^{PMNS}$ by various experiments, we are standing at a square where we still encounter a number of issues, which are to be settled. In this paper, we have extended our recent work towards a precise prediction of the $θ_{23}^{PMNS}$ mixing angle, taking into account the neutrino mass hierarchy. We parameterize the non-trivial correlation between quark (CKM) and lepton (PMNS) mixing matrices in quark-lepton complementarity (QLC) model as $V_{c}= U_{CKM}. ψ. U_{PMNS}$, where $ψ$ is a diagonal phase matrix. Monte Carlo simulatio…
We propose a new model which can naturally explain origins of fermion generations, quark mass hierarchy, and Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix simultaneously from geometry of an extra dimension. We take the extra dimension to be an interval with point interactions, which are additional boundary points in the bulk space of the interval. Because of the Dirichlet boundary condition for fermion at the positions of point interactions, profiles of chiral fermion zero modes are split and localized, and then we can realize three generations from each five-dimensional Dirac fermion. Our model allows fer…
In SO(10) models with a vectorial fourth generation of down quarks and leptons, the structure of the neutrino Majorana and Dirac mass matrices generically coincide with those of up- and down-quarks, respectively. Then the small neutrino mass hierarchy follows from the mismatch of the up and down quark mass hierarchies and we can accommodate naturally a normal hierarchy. The effective CP violating phases in the quark sector, neutrino oscillations and leptogenesis are unrelated.
We discuss a mechanism to generate hierarchy between masses of the top and bottom quarks without fine-tuning of the Yukawa coupling constants. In the framework of the two-Higgs-doublet model (THDM) with a discrete $Z_2$ symmetry, there exists the vacuum where only the top quark receives the mass of the order of the electroweak symmetry breaking scale $v(\simeq 246 {GeV})$, while the bottom quark remains massless. We show a model in which a small sofb-breaking mass $m_3^2 [\sim v^2/(4π)^2]$ for the $Z_2$ symmetry is generated by the dynamics above the cutoff scale of the THDM. The appearance of…
We extend the Gunion Bertsch calculation of gluon radiation in single scattering to the case of finite mass quarks. This case applies to the radiative energy-loss of heavy quarks of intermediate energies propagating in a quark gluon plasma. We discuss more specifically the dead cone effect as well as the mass hierarchy of the collisional and radiative energy loss and provide some predictions for observables sensitive to the mass hierarchy of energy loss in ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions.
Flavor physics is about particle mass-degeneracy-deviations (DMD) and mixing and especially about hierarchies of those deviations. On the one hand there is no established theory of particle flavor at present; on the other hand there are growing data indications on interesting empirical flavor regularities that are described here by two semi-empirical rules: quadratic DMD-hierarchy and Dirac-Majorana DMD-duality rules. First rule unites neutrino solar-atmospheric hierarchy parameter with charged lepton (CL) and quark mass-ratio hierarchies and simultaneously unites the hierarchies in the mixing…
We propose a novel mechanism to reproduce the observed mass hierarchy for the scalar mesons lighter than 1 GeV (called the inverse hierarchy) regarding them as mesons made of a quark and an anti-quark ($q\bar{q}$ mesons). The source is provided by the SU(3)-flavor symmetry-breaking induced by U(1) axial anomaly. In particular, the anomaly term including the explicit-chiral symmetry-breaking plays a significant role for the light scalar meson spectrum. To be concrete, we construct a linear sigma model for the scalar mesons of $q\bar{q}$ type together with their pseudoscalar chiral partners, inc…
The multiple point principle, according to which several vacuum states with the same energy density exist, is put forward as a fine-tuning mechanism predicting the exponentially huge ratio between the fundamental and weak scales in the Standard Model (SM). Using renormalisation group equations for the SM, we obtain the effective potential in the 2-loop approximation and investigate the existence of its postulated second minimum at the fundamental scale. A prediction is made of the existence of a new bound state of 6 top quarks and 6 anti-top quarks, formed due to Higgs boson exchanges between …
We introduce a new class of models describing the quark mass hierarchy. In this class, the dynamics primarily responsible for electroweak symmetry breaking (EWSB) leads to the mass spectrum of quarks with no (or weak) isospin violation. Moreover, the values of these masses are of the order of the observed masses of the down-type quarks. Then, strong (although subcritical) horizontal diagonal interactions for the $t$ quark plus horizontal flavor-changing neutral interactions between different families lead (with no fine tuning) to a realistic quark mass spectrum. In this scenario, many composit…
We revisit the gauge hierarchy problem with the emphasis on the chiral property of the Standard Model. We present a model realizing a gauge hierarchy. Along this line, we also comment briefly on the "very light" axions and the upper bound on $θ_{\rm QCD}$.
We present a viable flipped version of the SO(10) model consistent with the phenomenological requirements of having a non-trivial quark mixing matrix, natural doublet-triplet splitting, and a single pair of light electroweak Higgs doublet scalar bosons. In the presence of suitable non-renormalizable superpotential terms the model can reproduce the hierarchy observed in quark masses and mixings as well as an acceptable neutrino mass generated via the seesaw mechanism needed to explain dark matter and solar neutrino data.
We show that the observed quark/lepton mass hierarchy can be realized dynamically on an interval extra dimension with point interactions. In our model, the positions of the point interactions play a crucial role to control the quark/lepton mass hierarchy and are determined by the minimization of the Casimir energy. By use of the exact extra-dimensional coordinate-dependent vacuum expectation value of a gauge singlet scalar, we find that there is a parameter set, where the positions of the point interactions are stabilized and fixed, which can reproduce the experimental values of the quark mass…
In this talk, I present a new framework to understand the long-standing fermion mass hierarchy puzzle. We extend the Standard Model gauge symmetry by an extra local U(1)_S symmetry, broken spontaneously at the electroweak scale. All the SM particles are singlet with respect to this U(1)_S. We also introduce additional flavor symmetries, U(1)_F's, with flavon scalars F_i, as well as vectorlike quarks and leptons at the TeV scale. The flavon scalars have VEV in the TeV scale. Only the top quark has the usual dimension four Yukawa coupling. EW symmetry breaking to all other quarks and leptons are…
A non-supersymmetric grand unified theory can exhibit a "radiative fermion mass hierarchy", in which the heavier quarks and leptons get mass at tree level and the lighter ones get mass from loop diagrams. Recently the first predictive model of this type was proposed. Here it is analyzed numerically and it is shown to give an excellent fit to the quark and lepton masses and mixings, including the CP phase violating phase $δ_{CKM}$. A relation between the neutrino angle $θ_{13}$ and the atmospheric neutrino angle is obtained
A link is established between the observed (approximate) geometric mass hierarchy of quarks and leptons and the triangular structure of their tenable flavor representations. This singles out SU(3) as the horizontal flavor group, thereby linking the Fermi mass hierarchy with the threefold family replication. These linkages are exploited within a flavor-chiral SU(3) model, with fermions and Higgs bosons in the 3+6* representation. The model is Left-Right symmetric and utilizes the universal see-saw mechanism with a geometric mass suppression pattern. Given certain assumptions, the model produces…
We present a simple solution to the little hierarchy problem in the MSSM: a vector-like fourth generation. With O(1) Yukawa couplings for the new quarks, the Higgs mass can naturally be above 114 GeV. Unlike a chiral fourth generation, a vector-like generation can solve the little hierarchy problem while remaining consistent with precision electroweak and direct production constraints, and maintaining the success of the grand unified framework. The new quarks are predicted to lie between ~ 300 - 600 GeV and will thus be discovered or ruled out at the LHC. This scenario suggests exploration of …
In this paper, we realize the tri-bimaximal mixing in the lepton sector in the context of minimal seesaw in which only two right-handed neutrinos are introduced, with the discrete group $S4$ as the family symmetry. In order to constrain the form of superpotential, a $Z3$ symmetry is also introduced. In the model, the mass matrices for charged leptons and right-handed neutrinos are diagonal. The unitary matrix that diagonalizes the light Majorana neutrino mass matrix is exact tri-bimaximal at LO, and is corrected by small quantities of $\mathcal{O}(0.01)$ at NLO. The mechanism to get the partic…
It is shown that a fermion mass matrix changing in orientation (rotating) with changing scales can give a simple yet near-quantitative explanation for quark mixing, neutrino oscillations and the fermion mass hierarchy.
We provide a dynamical mechanism for the generation of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix in the context of a recently proposed model of flavor. The framework, based on the paradigm that Yukawa couplings are effective low energy couplings generated radiatively by dark sector interactions, is here extended to include a new scalar field which plays the role of a {\it dark flavon}. Being singlet under the Standard Model gauge group but charged under the $U(1)$ symmetry of the dark sector, this particle sources new two- and three-loop diagrams that result in off-diagonal Yukawa interactions, the…
The multiple point principle, according to which several vacuum states with the same energy density exist, is put forward as a fine-tuning mechanism predicting the ratio between the fundamental and electroweak scales in the Standard Model (SM). It is shown that this ratio is exponentially huge: $\sim e^{40}$. Using renormalisation group equations for the SM, we obtain the effective potential in the 2-loop approximation and investigate the existence of its postulated second minimum at the fundamental scale. The investigation of the evolution of the top quark Yukawa coupling constant in the 2-lo…
We have attempted to extend the parameter space of the elements of the texture 4 zero Hermitian quark mass matrices, to include the case of `weak hierarchy' amongst them along with the usually considered `strong hierarchy' case. This has been carried out by giving wide variation to the hierarchy defining parameters D_U and D_D, having implications for the structural features of the mass matrices. We find that not only the weakly hierarchical mass matrices are able to reproduce the strongly hierarchical mixing angles but also both the phases having their origin in the mass matrices have to be n…
We study quark and lepton masses and mixings in a double covering of modular $A_4$ flavor symmetry in which we search for common solution of a single modulus $τ$, applying chi-square numerical analysis under the as minimum framework as possible. We have found the common region of $τ$ within $5σ$ interval that is narrow in case of normal hierarchy, but not found in case of inverted hierarchy.
We study a hybrid model in which the Technicolor and fundamental heavy scalars live together. We concern extreme case, where electroweak symmetry breaking (EWSB) comes almost entirely from the strong dynamics of Technicolor, but the masses of the light fermions, e.g. leptons arises due to the weakly interacting scalars with one universal Yukawa interaction. We have found that SU(2) scalar two doublets, which are private but universal for each generation, offer a natural explanation of the vertical mass hierarchy. There is no large Yukawa coupling in the theory and the scalar masses are expecte…
The seesaw model of quark masses is studied systematically, focusing on its developments. A framework allowing the top quark mass to be of the order of the electroweak symmetry breaking scale, while the remaining light quarks have much smaller masses, due to the seesaw mechanism, is presented. The violation of the GIM mechanism is shown to be small and the tree level FCNC are suppressed naturally. In this model, there are many particles which could contribute to the FCNC in the one-loop level. Parameters of the model are constrained by using the experimental data on K^0-\bar{K}^0 mixing and ε_…
We show that a simultaneous explanation for fermionic mass hierarchy among and within the fermionic families, quark-mixing, can be obtained in an extension of the standard model, with real singlet scalar fields, which is UV completed by vector-like fermions and a strongly interacting sector.
Assuming that a horizontal abelian (gauge) symmetry is at the origin of texture zeros in the fermion mass matrices we show how realistic mass patterns can be generated stepwise with a small number of effective operators from GUT's and string theory. It is interesting to note that, in the minimal scenario, if the up quark and the down quark mass matrices are generated simultaneously their texture is formaquivalent and contains only two zeros. Textures with more zeros (and thus more predictability) emerge if the up and down sectors are generated stepwise. This last possibility leads to rather an…
The consequences of Gauge-Yukawa Unification (GYU) in supersymmetric unified models on low energy physics are analyzed. We find that the observed top-bottom mass hierarchy can be explained by supersymmetric GYU and different models can be experimentally distinguished if the top quark mass does not exceed the value $\sim 185$ GeV.
In the context of Fritzsch-like texture 4 zero Hermitian quark mass matrices, we have attempted to find an `exact' formula for sin2βwherein the dependence of βon the quark masses and the elements of the quark mass matrices is visible in a simple and clear manner. This has been achieved keeping in mind the strong hierarchy of the quark masses and assuming the weak hierarchy amongst the elements of the mass matrices. This `exact' formula represents a vast improvement over the leading order formula based on strong hierarchy of the elements of the mass matrices. Apart from showing the compatibilit…
The up-down splitting within quark families increases with the family number: m_u ~ m_d, m_c > m_s, m_t >> m_b. We show an approach that realizes this feature of the spectrum in a natural way. We suggest that the mass hierarchy is first generated by radiative effects in a sector of heavy isosinglet fermions, and then projected to the ordinary light fermions by means of a seesaw mixing. The hierarchy appears then inverted in the light fermion sector. We present a simple left-right symmetric gauge model in which the P- and CP-parities and an isotopical "up-down" symmetry are softly (or spontaneo…
Light vector-like quarks with non-renormalizable couplings to the Higgs are a common feature of models trying to address the electroweak (EW) hierarchy problem by treating the Higgs as a pseudo-goldstone boson of a global (approximate) symmetry. We systematically investigate the implications of the leading dimension five operators on Higgs phenomenology in presence of dynamical up- and down-type weak singlet as well as weak doublet vector-like quarks. After taking into account constraints from precision EW and flavour observables we show that contrary to the renormalizable models, significant …
The Multiple Point Principle, according to which there exist many vacuum states with the same energy density, is put forward as a fine-tuning mechanism. By assuming the existence of three degenerate vacua, we derive the hierarchical ratio between the fundamental (Planck) and electroweak scales in the Standard Model. In one of these phases, 6 top quarks and 6 anti-top quarks bind so strongly by Higgs exchange as to become tachyonic and form a condensate. The third degenerate vacuum is taken to have a Higgs field expectation value of the order of the fundamental scale.
We address two fundamental aspects of flavor physics: the mass hierarchy and the large lepton mixing angles. On one side, left-right flavor symmetry realizes the democratic mass matrix patterns and explains why one family is much heavier than the others. On the other side, discrete flavor symmetry such as A4 leads to the observed tribimaximal mixing for the leptons. We show that, by explicitly breaking the left-right flavor symmetry into the diagonal A4, it is possible to explain both the observed charged fermion mass hierarchies and quark and lepton mixing angles. In particular we predict a h…
