The Cauchy-Dirichlet problem for the Moore-Gibson-Thompson equation is analyzed. With the focus on non-homogeneous boundary data, two approaches are offered: one is based on the theory of hyperbolic equations, while the other one uses the theory of operator semigroups. This is a mixed hyperbolic problem with a characteristic spatial boundary. Hence, the regularity results exhibit some deficiencies when compared with the non-characteristic case.
The three concepts of exact, null and approximate controllabilities are analyzed from the exterior of the Moore--Gibson--Thompson equation associated with the fractional Laplace operator subject to the nonhomogeneous Dirichlet type exterior condition.
In this paper, we consider several time-fractional generalizations of the Jordan-Moore-Gibson-Thompson (JMGT) equations in nonlinear acoustics as well as their linear Moore-Gibson-Thompson (MGT) versions. Following the procedure described in Jordan (2014), these time-fractional acoustic equations are derived from four fractional versions of the Maxwell-Cattaneo law in Compte and Metzler (1997). Additionally to providing well-posedness results for each of them, we also study the respective limits as the fractional order tends to one, leading to the classical third order in time (J)MGT equation.
We are interested in the Moore-Gibson-Thompson(MGT) equation with memory \begin{equation}\nonumber τu_{ttt}+ αu_{tt}+c^2\A u+b\A u_t -\int_0^tg(t-s)\A w(s)ds=0. \end{equation} We first classify the memory into three types. Then we study how a memory term creates damping mechanism and how the memory causes energy decay.
In this article we study the inverse problem of recovering a space-dependent coefficient of the Moore-Gibson-Thompson (MGT) equation, from knowledge of the trace of the solution on some open subset of the boundary. We obtain the Lipschitz stability for this inverse problem, and we design a convergent algorithm for the reconstruction of the unknown coefficient. The techniques used are based on Carleman inequalities for wave equations and properties of the MGT equation.
We prove global solvability of the third-order in time Jordan-More-Gibson-Thompson acoustic wave equation with memory in $\mathbb{R}^n$, where $n \geq 3$. This wave equation models ultrasonic propagation in relaxing hereditary fluids and incorporates both local and cumulative nonlinear effects. The proof of global solvability is based on a sequence of high-order energy bounds that are uniform in time, and derived under the assumption of an exponentially decaying memory kernel and sufficiently small and regular initial data.
We study a temporally third order (Moore-Gibson-Thompson) equation with a memory term. Previously it is known that, in non-critical regime, the global solutions exist and the energy functionals decay to zero. More precisely, it is known that the energy has exponential decay if the memory kernel decays exponentially. The current work is a generalization of the previous one (Part I) in that it allows the memory kernel to be more general and shows that the energy decays the same way as the memory kernel does, exponentially or not.
In this paper, we consider the 3D Jordan--Moore--Gibson--Thompson equation arising in nonlinear acoustics. First, we prove that the solution exists globally in time provided that the lower order Sobolev norms of the initial data are considered to be small, while the higher-order norms can be arbitrarily large. We study the Jordan--Moore--Gibson--Thompson (JMGT) equation, a third order in time wave equation that models nonlinear sound propagation, in the practically relevant setting of Neumann and absorbing boundary conditions. In the analysis, we pay special attention to dependencies on the coefficient $τ$ of the third order time derivative that plays the physical role of relaxation time. We establish local in time well-posedness and derive energy bounds that can be made independent of $τ$ under appropriate conditions. In this paper, we study the blow-up of solutions to the semilinear Moore-Gibson-Thompson (MGT) equation with nonlinearity of derivative type $|u_t|^p$ in the conservative case. We apply an iteration method in order to study both the subcritical case and the critical case. Hence, we obtain a blow-up result for the semilinear MGT equation (under suitable assumptions for initial data) when the exponent $p$ for the nonlinear term satisfies $1<p\leqslant (n+1)/(n-1)$ for $n\geqslant2$ and $p>1$ for $n=1$. In this paper, we study the Cauchy problem for the linear and semilinear Moore-Gibson-Thompson (MGT) equation in the dissipative case. Concerning the linear MGT model, by utilizing WKB analysis associated with Fourier analysis, we derive some $L^2$ estimates of solutions, which improve those in the previous research [46]. Furthermore, asymptotic profiles of the solution and an approximate relation in a framework of the weighted $L^1$ space are derived. In acoustics, higher-order-in-time equations arise when taking into account a class of thermal relaxation laws in the modeling of sound wave propagation. In this paper, we consider the Cauchy problem of a model in nonlinear acoustic, named the Jordan--Moore--Gibson--Thompson equation. This equation arises as an alternative model to the well-known Kuznetsov equation in acoustics. We undertake a regularity analysis of the solutions to initial/boundary value problems for the (third-order in time) Moore-Gibson-Thompson (MGT) equation. In this paper, we study the Moore--Gibson--Thompson equation in $\mathbb{R}^N$, which is a third order in time equation that arises in viscous thermally relaxing fluids and also in viscoelastic materials (then under the name of \emph{standard linear viscoelastic} model). We consider the MGT equation with memory $$\partial_{ttt} u + α\partial_{tt} u - βΔ\partial_{t} u - γΔu + \int_{0}^{t}g(s) Δu(t-s) ds = 0.$$ We prove an existence and uniqueness result removing the convexity assumption on the convolution kernel $g$, usually adopted in the literature. In the subcritical case $αβ>γ$, we establish the exponential decay of the energy, without leaning on the classical differential inequality involving $g$ and its derivative $g'$, namely, $$g'+δg\leq 0,\quadδ>0,$$ but only asking that $g$ vanishes exponentially fast.

In this paper, we are interested in the Cauchy problem for the viscoelastic damped wave equation with memory of type I. By applying WKB analysis and Fourier analysis, we explain the memory's influence on dissipative structures and asymptotic profiles of solutions to the model with weighted $L^1$ initial data.
