In previous work, black hole vortex solutions in Einstein gravity with AdS$_3$ background were found where the scalar matter profile had a singularity at the origin $r=0$. In this paper, we find numerically static vortex solutions where the scalar and gauge fields have a non-singular profile under Einstein gravity in an AdS$_3$ background. Vortices with different winding numbers $n$, VEV $v$ and cosmological constant $Λ$ are obtained. These vortices have positive mass and are not BTZ black holes as they have no event horizon. The mass is determined in two ways: by subtracting the numerical values of two separate asymptotic metrics and via an integral that is purely over the matter fields. The mass of the vortex increases as the cosmological constant becomes more negative and this coincides with the core of the vortex becoming smaller (compressed). We then consider the vortex with gravity in asymptotically flat spacetime for different values of the coupling $α=1/(16 πG)$. At the origin, the spacetime has its highest curvature and there is no singularity. It transitions to an asymptotic conical spacetime with angular deficit that increases significantly as $α$ decreases. For comparison, we also consider the vortex without gravity in flat spacetime. For this case, one cannot obtain the mass by the first method (subtracting two metrics) but remarkably, via a limiting procedure, one can obtain an integral mass formula. In the absence of gauge fields, there is a well-known logarithmic divergence in the energy of the vortex. With gravity, we present this divergence in a new light. We show that the metric acquires a logarithmic term which is the $2+1$ dimensional realization of the Newtonian gravitational potential when General Relativity is supplemented with a scalar field. This opens up novel possibilities which we discuss in the conclusion.
A quantum deformation of the conformal algebra of the Minkowskian spacetime in $(3+1)$ dimensions is identified with a deformation of the $(4+1)$-dimensional AdS algebra. Both Minkowskian and AdS first-order non-commutative spaces are explicitly obtained, and the former coincides with the well known $κ$-Minkowski space. Next, by working in the conformal basis, a new non-commutative Minkowskian spacetime is constructed through the full (all orders) dual quantum group spanned by deformed Poincaré and dilation symmetries. Although Lorentz invariance is lost, the resulting non-commutative spacetim…
We consider a family of non-commutative 4d Minkowski spaces with the signature (1,3) and two types of spaces with the signature (2,2). The Minkowski spaces are defined by the common reflection equation and differ in anti-involutions. There exist two Casimir elements and the fixing of one of them leads to non-commutative "homogeneous" spaces $H_3$, $dS_3$, $AdS_3$ and light-cones. We present the quasi-classical description of the Minkowski spaces. There are three compatible Poisson structures - quadratic, linear and canonical. The quantization of the former leads to the considered Minkowski spa…
I review some interesting features of massive gravity in two maximally symmetric backgrounds: Anti de Sitter space and Minkowski space. While massive gravity in AdS can be seen as a spontaneously broken, UV safe theory, no such interpretation exists yet in the flat-space case. Here, I point out the problems encountered in trying to find such completion, and possible mechanisms to overcome them.
We calculate small correction terms to gravitational potential near an asymmetric BPS brane embedded in a 5D AdS-Minkowski space in the context of supergravity. The normalizable wave functions of gravity fluctuations around the brane describe only massive modes. We compute such wave functions analytically in the thin wall limit. We estimate the correction to gravitational potential for small and long distances, and show that there is an intermediate range of distances in which we can identify 4D gravity on the brane below a crossover scale. The 4D gravity is metastable and for distances much l…
We construct in this paper a multi-brne model with Minkowski and AdS spacetime alternated in the fifth dimension and study the gravity on the brane of our universe. We will show that in this model there are both the graviton-like resonant states which generates the "quasi-localized gravity" and the resonant states of the massive KK mode. This model gives rise to gravity which deviates from the Newton gravitational potential at small and large scale which, however can be shown to be consistent with the observations in the absence of fine-tuning of the model parameters.
We formulate a prescription for computing Minkowski-space correlators from AdS/CFT correspondence. This prescription is shown to give the correct retarded propagators at zero temperature in four dimensions, as well as at finite temperature in the two-dimensional conformal field theory dual to the BTZ black hole. Using the prescription, we calculate the Chern-Simons diffusion constant of the finite-temperature N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory in the strong coupling limit. We explain why the quasinormal frequencies of the asymptotically AdS background correspond to the poles of the retarded …
In this paper, based on the $ AdS_{4}/CFT_{3} $ duality, we have explored the precise connection between the abelian Chern-Simons (CS) Higgs model in ($ 2+1 $) dimensions to that with its dual gravitational counterpart living in one higher dimension. It has been observed that the $ U(1) $ current computed at the boundary of the $ AdS_{4} $ could be expressed as the local function of the vortex solution that has the remarkable structural similarity to that with the Ginzburg-Landau (GL) type local expression for the current associated with the Maxwell-CS type vortices in ($ 2+1 $) dimensions. In…
In this work, we have analytically devised novel vortex solutions in a rotating holographic superfluid. To achieve this result, we have considered a static disc at the AdS boundary and let the superfluid rotate relative to it. This idea has been numerically exploited in [1] where formation of vortices in such a setting was reported. We have found that these vortex solutions are eigenfunctions of angular momentum. We have also shown that vortices with higher winding numbers are associated with higher quantized rotation of the superfluid. We have, then, analysed the equation of motion along bulk…
We find the response function and the transition rate for an Unruh-DeWitt detector interacting with a conformal scalar field in global two-dimensional anti--de Sitter (AdS) spacetime with different boundary conditions at its conformal infinities. We calculate the particle energy spectrum as seen by subcritical accelerated detectors and discuss how it depends on the choice of the boundary condition. We show that, despite this nontrivial dependence on the boundary conditions, the limit when the AdS length scale tends to zero is well defined and leads to the well-known results of 1+1 Minkowski sp…
The isometries of $AdS_5$ space and supersymmetric $AdS_5\otimes S_1$ space are nonlinearly realized on four dimensional Minkowski space. The resultant effective actions in terms of the Nambu-Goldstone modes are constructed. The dilatonic mode governing the motion of the Minkowski space probe brane into the covolume of supersymmetric $AdS_5$ space is found to be unstable and the bulk of the $AdS_5$ space is unable to sustain the brane. No such instablility appears in the non-supersymmetric case.
We classify Minkowski$_4$ solutions in type IIA supergravity, with N=2 supersymmetry and an SU(2) R-symmetry of a certain type. Many subcases can be reduced to relatively simple PDEs, among which we recover various intersecting brane systems, and AdS$_d$ solutions, $d=5,6,7$, and in particular the recently found general massive AdS$_7$ solutions. Imposing compactness of the internal six-manifold we obtain promising solutions with localized D-branes and O-planes.
Starting from the averaged null energy condition (ANEC) in Minkowski we show that conformal symmetry implies the ANEC for a conformal field theory (CFT) in a de Sitter and anti-de Sitter background. A similar and novel bound is also obtained for a CFT in the Lorentzian cylinder. Using monotonicity of relative entropy, we rederive these results for dS and the cylinder. As a byproduct we obtain the vacuum modular Hamiltonian and entanglement entropy associated to null deformed regions of CFTs in (A)dS and the cylinder. A third derivation of the ANEC in dS is shown to follow from bulk causality i…
We investigate topological effects of a cosmic string and compactification of a spatial dimension on the vacuum expectation value (VEV) of the energy-momentum tensor for a fermionic field in (4+1)-dimensional locally AdS spacetime. The contribution induced by the compactification is explicitly extracted by using the Abel-Plana summation formula. The mean energy-momentum tensor is diagonal and the vacuum stresses along the direction perpendicular to the AdS boundary and along the cosmic string are equal to the energy density. All the components are even periodic functions of the magnetic fluxes…
We use Weyl transformations between the Minkowski spacetime and dS/AdS spacetime to show that one cannot well define the electrodynamics globally on the ordinary conformal compactification of the Minkowski spacetime (or dS/AdS spacetime), where the electromagnetic field has a sign factor (and thus is discountinuous) at the light cone. This problem is intuitively and clearly shown by the Penrose diagrams, from which one may find the remedy without too much difficulty. We use the Minkowski and dS spacetimes together to cover the compactified space, which in fact leads to the doubled conformal co…
We describe how conformal Minkowski, dS- and AdS-spaces can be united into a single submanifold [N] of RP^5. It is the set of generators of the null cone in M^{2,4}. Conformal transformations on the Mink-, dS- and AdS-spaces are induced by O(2,4) linear transformations on M^{2,4}. We also describe how Weyl transformations and conformal transformations can be resulted in on [N]. In such a picture we give a description of how the conformal Mink-, dS- and AdS-spaces as well as [N] are mapped from one to another by conformal maps. This implies that a CFT in one space can be translated into a CFT i…
Gravity is not only able to be mimicked in flat spacetimes, but also in curved spacetimes. We study analogue gravity models in curved spacetime by considering the relativistic Gross-Pitaevskii theory and Yang-Mills theory in the fixed background spacetime geometry. The results show that acoustic metrics can be emergent from curved spacetimes yielding a Hadamard product of a real metric-tensor and an analogue metric-tensor. Taking \emph{quantum vortices} as \emph{test particles}, we evaluate their released energy ratio during the "gravitational binding". The $2+1$-dimensional flat Minkowski met…
We study geodesically complete, singularity free space-times induced by supersymmetric planar domain walls interpolating between Minkowski and anti-de Sitter ($AdS_4$) vacua. A geodesically complete space-time without closed time-like curves includes an infinite number of semi-infinite Minkowski space-times, separated from each other by a region of $AdS_4$ space-time. These space-times are closely related to the extreme Reissner Nordstr\" om (RN) black hole, exhibiting Cauchy horizons with zero Hawking temperature, but in contrast to the RN black hole there is no entropy. Another geodesically …
Motivated by the gauge/gravity duality, we introduce a numerical scheme based on generalized harmonic evolution to solve the Einstein field equations on asymptotically anti-de Sitter (AdS) spacetimes. We work in global AdS5, which can be described by the (t,r,χ,θ,ϕ) spherical coordinates adapted to the R{\times}S3 boundary. We focus on solutions that preserve an SO(3) symmetry that acts to rotate the 2-spheres parametrized by θ,ϕ. In the boundary conformal field theory (CFT), the way in which this symmetry manifests itself hinges on the way we choose to embed Minkowski space in R{\times}S3. We…
Recently the anomalous dimension of twist two operators in N=4 SYM theory was computed by Gubser, Klebanov and Polyakov in the limit of large 't Hooft coupling using semi-classical rotating strings in AdS_5. Here we reproduce their results for large angular momentum by using the cusp anomaly of Wilson loops in Minkowski signature also computed within the AdS/CFT correspondence. In this case the anomalous dimension is related to an Euclidean worldsheet whose properties are completely determined by the symmetries of the problem. This gives support to the proposed identification of rotating strin…
Using numerical and analytic methods, we study quantum tunneling from a Minkowski false vacuum to an anti-de Sitter true vacuum. Scanning the parameter space of theories with quartic and non-polynomial potentials, we find that for any given potential tunneling is completely quenched if gravitational effects are made sufficiently strong. For potentials where $ε$, the energy density difference between the vacua, is small compared to the barrier height, this occurs in the thin-wall regime studied by Coleman and De Luccia. However, we find that other potentials, possibly with $ε$ much greater than…
Asymptotic symmetries of AdS$_4$ quantum gravity and gauge theory are derived by coupling the dual CFT$_3$ to Chern-Simons gauge theory and 3D gravity in a "probe" large-level limit. The infinite-dimensional symmetries are shown to arise when one is restricted to boundary subspaces with effectively two-dimensional geometry. A canonical example of such a restriction occurs within the 4D subregion described by a Wheeler-DeWitt wavefunctional of AdS$_4$ quantum gravity. An AdS$_4$ analog of Minkowski "super-rotation" asymptotic symmetry is probed by 3D Einstein gravity, yielding CFT$_2$ structure…
We show that any conformal field theory in d-dimensional Minkowski space, in a phase with spontaneously broken conformal symmetry and with the dilaton among its fields, can be rewritten in terms of the static gauge (d-1)-brane on AdS_(d+1) by means of an invertible change of variables. This nonlinear holographic transformation maps the Minkowski space coordinates onto the brane worldvolume ones and the dilaton onto the transverse AdS brane coordinate. One of the consequences of the existence of this map is that any (d-1)-brane worldvolume action on AdS_(d+1)\times X^m (with X^m standing for th…
We classify $\mathcal N = 2$ Minkowski$_4$ solutions of IIB supergravity with an $SU(2)_R$ symmetry geometrically realized by an $S^2$-foliation in the remaining six dimensions. For the various cases of the classification, we reduce the supersymmetric system of equations to PDEs. These cases often accommodate systems of intersecting branes and half-maximally supersymmetric AdS$_{5,6,7}$ solutions when they exist. As an example, we analyze the AdS$_6$ case in more detail, reducing the supersymmetry equations to a single cylindrical Laplace equation. We also recover an already known linear dilat…
We show that D=4 Minkowski space is an emergent concept related to a class of operators in extended Hilbert space with no positive-definite scalar product. We start with the idea of position-like and momentum-like operators (Plewa 2019 J. Phys. A: Math. Theor. 52 375401), introduced discussing a connection between quantum entanglement and geometry predicted by ER=EPR conjecture. We examine eigenequations of the simplest operators and identify D=4 Minkowski space as to be spanned by normalized eigenvectors corresponding to the zero eigenvalue. Both spacetime dimension and signature of the metri…
We show the uniqueness of superpotentials leading to Minkowski vacua of single-field no-scale supergravity models, and the construction of dS/AdS solutions using pairs of these single-field Minkowski superpotentials. We then extend the construction to two- and multifield no-scale supergravity models, providing also a geometrical interpretation. We also consider scenarios with additional twisted or untwisted moduli fields, and discuss how inflationary models can be constructed in this framework.
We present ansätze that reduce the mass-deformed ABJM model to gauged Abelian scalar theories, using the fuzzy sphere matrices $G^α$. One such reduction gives a Toda system, for which we find a new type of nonabelian vortex. Another gives the standard Abelian-Higgs model, thereby allowing us to embed all the usual (multi-)vortex solutions of the latter into the ABJM model. By turning off the mass deformation at the level of the reduced model, we can also continuously deform to the massive $ϕ^4$ theory in the massless ABJM case. In this way we can embed the Landau-Ginzburg model into the AdS/CF…
We explicitly construct static black hole solutions to the fully non-linear, D=4, Einstein-Maxwell-AdS equations that have no continuous spatial symmetries. These black holes have a smooth, topologically spherical horizon (section), but without isometries, and approach, asymptotically, global AdS spacetime. They are interpreted as bound states of a horizon with the Einstein-Maxwell-AdS solitons recently discovered, for appropriate boundary data. In sharp contrast with the uniqueness results for Minkowski electrovacuum, the existence of these black holes shows that single, equilibrium, BH solut…
The AdS/CFT transformation relates two nonlinear realizations of (super)conformal groups: their realization in the appropriate field theories in Minkowski space with a Goldstone dilaton field and their realization as (super)isometry groups of AdS (super)spaces. It exists already at the classical level and maps the field variables and space-time coordinates of the given (super)conformal field theory in $d$-dimensional Minkowski space ${\cal M}_d$ on the variables of a scalar codimension one (super)brane in AdS$_{d+1}$ in a static gauge, the dilaton being mapped on the transverse AdS brane coord…
The coupling to gravity in D=5 spacetime dimensions is considered for the particle-like and vortex-type solutions obtained by uplifting the D=4 Yang-Mills instantons and D=3 Yang-Mills-Higgs monopoles. It turns out that the particles become completely destroyed by gravity, while the vortices admit a rich spectrum of gravitating generalizations. Such vortex defects may be interesting in view of the AdS/CFT correspondence or in the context of the brane world scenario.
We investigate probe limit vortex solutions of a charged scalar field in Einstein-Maxwell theory in 3+1 dimensions, for an asymptotically AdS Schwarzschild black hole metric with the addition of an axionic coupling to the Maxwell field. We show that the inclusion of such a term, together with a suitable potential for the axion field, can induce an effective Chern-Simons term on the 2+1 dimensional boundary. We obtain numerical solutions of the equations of motion and find Maxwell-Chern-Simons like magnetic vortex configurations, where the magnetic field profile varies with the size of the effe…
We present results from the evolution of spacetimes that describe the merger of asymptotically global AdS black holes in 5D with an SO(3) symmetry. Prompt scalar field collapse provides us with a mechanism for producing distinct trapped regions on the initial slice, associated with black holes initially at rest. We evolve these black holes towards a merger, and follow the subsequent ring-down. The boundary stress tensor of the dual CFT is conformally related to a stress tensor in Minkowski space which inherits an axial symmetry from the bulk SO(3). We compare this boundary stress tensor to its…
The holographic entanglement entropies (HEE) associated with four dimensional Schwarzschild and Reisner-Nordström black holes in asymptotically Minkowski spacetimes are investigated. Unlike the cases of asymptotically AdS spacetimes for which the boundaries are always taken at (timelike) conformal infinities, we take the boundaries at either large but finite radial coordinate (far boundary) or very close to the black hole event horizons (near horizon boundary). The reason for such choices is that such boundaries are similar to the conformal infinity of AdS spacetime in that they are all timeli…
In order to study the rotating strongly coupled Bose-Einstein condensations(BEC), a holographic model defined in an AdS black hole that duals to a coupled two-component condensations in global $U(1)$ symmetry broken phase with intercomponent coupling $η$ and internal coherent coupling $ε$ is proposed. By solving the dynamics of the model, we study the process of formation and also the crossover from fractional to integer vortex phases. With changing only $η$ from zero to a finite value, fractional vortex lattices undergo a transition from hexagon to square lattice and finally to vortex sheets.…
We study N=1 supersymmetric gauge theories coupled with higher derivative chiral models in four dimensions in the off-shell superfield formalism. We solve the equation of motion for the auxiliary fields and find two distinct on-shell structures of the Lagrangian that we call the canonical and non-canonical branches characterized by zero and non-zero auxiliary fields, respectively. We classify BPS states of the models in Minkowski and Euclidean spaces. In Minkowski space, we find Abelian and non-Abelian vortices, vortex-lumps (or gauged lumps with fractional lump charges) as 1/2 BPS states in t…
We paste together patches of $AdS_6$ to find solutions which describe two 4-branes intersecting on a 3-brane with non-zero tension. We construct explicitly brane arrays with Minkowski, de Sitter and Anti-de Sitter geometries intrinsic to the 3-brane, and describe how to generalize these solutions to the case of $AdS_{4+n}$, $n>2$, where $n$ $n+2$-branes intersect on a 3-brane. The Minkowski and de Sitter solutions localize gravity to the intersection, leading to 4D Newtonian gravity at large distances. We show this explicitly in the case of Minkowski origami by finding the zero-mode graviton, …
We discuss electrostatics in Anti-de-Sitter ($AdS$) spacetime, in global coordinates. We observe that the multipolar expansion has two crucial differences to that in Minkowski spacetime. First, there are everywhere regular solutions, with finite energy, for every multipole moment except for the monopole. Second, all multipole moments decay with the same inverse power of the areal radius, $1/r$, as spatial infinity is approached. The first observation suggests there may be regular, self-gravitating, Einstein-Maxwell solitons in $AdS$ spacetime. The second observation, renders a Lichnerowicz-typ…
String backgrounds of the form $\mathbb{M}_3 \times {\cal M}_7$ where $\mathbb{M}_3$ denotes $3$-dimensional Minkowski space while ${\cal M}_7$ is a $7$-dimensional G$_2$-manifold, are characterised by the property that the world-sheet theory has a Shatashvili-Vafa (SV) chiral algebra. We study the generalisation of this statement to backgrounds where the Minkowski factor $\mathbb{M}_3$ is replaced by ${\rm AdS}_3$. We argue that in this case the world-sheet theory is characterised by a certain ${\cal N}=1$ superconformal ${\cal W}$-algebra that has the same spin spectrum as the SV algebra and…
In $κ$-Minkowski spacetime, the coordinates are Lie algebraic elements such that time and space coordinates do not commute, whereas space coordinates commute each other. The non-commutativity is proportional to a Planck-length-scale constant $κ^{-1}$, which is a universal constant other than the light velocity under the $κ$-Poincare transformation. In this sense, the spacetime has a structure called as "Doubly Special Relativity". Such a noncommutative structure is known to be realized by SO(1,4) generators in 4-dimensional de Sitter space. In this paper, we try to construct a nonommutative sp…
While the standard construction of the S-matrix fails on Anti-de Sitter (AdS) spacetime, a generalized S-matrix makes sense, based on the hypercylinder geometry induced by the boundary of AdS. In contrast to quantum field theory in Minkowski spacetime, there is not yet a standard way to resolve the quantization ambiguities arising in its construction. These ambiguities are conveniently encoded in the choice of a complex structure. We explore in this paper the space of complex structures for real scalar Klein-Gordon theory based on a number of criteria. These are: invariance under AdS isometrie…
Starting from the geometrical interpretation of integrable vortices on two-dimensional hyperbolic space as conical singularities, we explain how this picture can be expressed in the language of Cartan connections, and how it can be lifted to the double cover of three-dimensional Anti-de Sitter space viewed as a trivial circle bundle over hyperbolic space. We show that vortex configurations on the double cover of AdS space give rise to solutions of the Dirac equation minimally coupled to the magnetic field of the vortex. After stereographic projection to (2+1)-dimensional Minkowski space we obt…
The AdS/CFT correspondence suggests that there is a point in the phase diagram of strongly interacting gauge-theory matter where the viscosity approaches zero. This paper analyses the possibility that this point represents a superfluid and that the the system near this point in the phase diagram can be described by a Landau fluid. Superfluid vortices are constructed and the AdS analogue of vorticity quantisation is described. The production of vortices in the quark-gluon plasma during heavy ion collisions is discussed.
For a massive scalar field with a general curvature coupling parameter, we investigate the finite temperature contributions to the Hadamard function and to the charge and current densities in the geometry of a magnetic flux carrying generalized cosmic string embedded in $(D+1)$-dimensional locally AdS spacetime with a compactified spatial dimension. For $D=4$, the geometry on the AdS boundary, in the context of the AdS/CFT duality, corresponds to a cosmic string as a linear defect, compactified along its axis. In contrast to the case of the Minkowski bulk, the upper bound on the chemical poten…
We provide a new general setting for scalar interacting fields on the covering of a d+1-dimensional AdS spacetime. The formalism is used at first to construct a one-paramater family of field theories, each living on a corresponding spacetime submanifold of AdS, which is a cylinder $R\times S_{d-1}$. We then introduce a limiting procedure which directly produces Luescher-Mack CFT's on the covering of the AdS asymptotic cone. Our AdS/CFT correspondence is generally valid for interacting fields, and is illustrated by a complete treatment of two-point functions, the case of Klein-Gordon fields app…
The eikonal phase which determines the Regge limit of the gravitational scattering amplitude of a light particle off a heavy one in Minkowski spacetimes admits an expansion in the ratio of the Schwarzschild radius of the heavy particle to the impact parameter. Such an eikonal phase in AdS spacetimes of any dimensionality has been computed to all orders and reduces to the corresponding Minkowski result when both the impact parameter and the Schwarzschild radius are much smaller than the AdS radius. The leading term in the AdS eikonal phase can be reproduced in the dual CFT by a single stress te…
We construct the full quantum algebra, the corresponding Poisson-Lie structure and the associated quantum spacetime for a family of quantum deformations of the isometry algebras of the (2+1)-dimensional anti-de Sitter (AdS), de Sitter (dS) and Minkowski spaces. These deformations correspond to a Drinfel'd double structure on the isometry algebras that are motivated by their role in (2+1)-gravity. The construction includes the cosmological constant $Λ$ as a deformation parameter, which allows one to treat these cases in a common framework and to obtain a twisted version of both space- and time-…
I review the relationship between AdS/CFT (anti-de Sitter / conformal field theory) dualities and the general theory of positive energy unitary representations of non-compact space-time groups and supergroups. I show, in particular, how one can go from the manifestly unitary compact basis of the lowest weight (positive energy) representations of the conformal group (Wigner picture) to the manifestly covariant coherent state basis (Dirac picture). The coherent states labelled by the space-time coordinates correspond to covariant fields with a definite conformal dimension. These results extend t…
We determine the Killing spinors for a class of magnetic brane solutions with Minkowski worldvolume of the theory of AdS Einstein Maxwell theories in d dimensions. We also obtain curved magnetic brane solutions with Ricci-flat worldvolumes. If we demand that the curved brane solution admits Killing spinors, then its worldvolume must admit parallel spinors. Classes of Ricci-flat worldvolumes admitting parallel spinors are discussed.
In this thesis, we investigate all warped AdS$_4$ and AdS$_3$ backgrounds with the most general allowed fluxes that preserve more than 16 supersymmetries in 10- and 11-dimensional supergravities. Assuming either that the internal manifold is compact without boundary or that the isometry algebra of the background decomposes into that of AdS and that of the transverse space, we find that there are no AdS$_4$ backgrounds in IIB supergravity. Similarly, we find a unique such background with 24 supersymmetries in IIA supergravity, locally isometric to $AdS_4\times \mathbb{CP}^3$. In 11-dimensional …
The microscopic description of AdS space obeys the holographic principle in the sense that the number of microscopic degrees of freedom is given by the area of the holographic boundary. We assume the same applies to the microscopic holographic theories for non-AdS spacetimes, specifically for Minkowski, de Sitter, and AdS below its curvature radius. By taking general lessons from AdS/CFT we derive the cut-off energy of the holographic theories for these non-AdS geometries. Contrary to AdS/CFT, the excitation energy decreases towards the IR in the bulk, which is related to the negative specific…
We show that the Drinfel'd double associated to the standard quantum deformation $sl_η(2,R)$ is isomorphic to the (2+1)-dimensional AdS algebra with the initial deformation parameter $η$ related to the cosmological constant $Λ=-η^2$. This gives rise to a generalisation of a non-commutative Minkowski spacetime that arises as a consequence of the quantum double symmetry of (2+1) gravity to non-vanishing cosmological constant. The properties of the AdS quantum double that generalises this symmetry to the case $Λ\neq 0$ are sketched, and it is shown that the new non-commutative AdS spacetime is a …
The anti-de Sitter C-metric (AdS C-metric) is characterized by a quite interesting new feature when compared with the C-metric in flat or de Sitter backgrounds. Indeed, contrarily to what happens in these two last exact solutions, the AdS C-metric only describes a pair of accelerated black holes if the acceleration parameter satisfies A>1/L, where L is the cosmological length. The two black holes cannot interact gravitationally and their acceleration is totally provided by the pressure exerted by a strut that pushes the black holes apart. Our analysis is based on the study of the causal struct…
We show that for every asymptotically AdS solution compactified on a torus there is a corresponding Ricci-flat solution obtained by replacing the torus by a sphere, performing a Weyl rescaling of the metric and appropriately analytically continuing the dimension of the torus/sphere (as in generalized dimensional reduction). In particular, it maps Minkowski spacetime to AdS on a torus, the holographic stress energy tensor of AdS to the stress energy tensor due to a brane localized in the interior of spacetime and AdS black branes to (asymptotically flat) Schwarzschild black branes. Applying it …
We study Yang-Baxter deformations of 4D Minkowski spacetime. The Yang-Baxter sigma model description was originally developed for principal chiral models based on a modified classical Yang-Baxter equation. It has been extended to coset curved spaces and models based on the usual classical Yang-Baxter equation. On the other hand, for flat space, there is the obvious problem that the standard bilinear form degenerates if we employ the familiar coset Poincaré group/Lorentz group. Instead we consider a slice of AdS$_5$ by embedding the 4D Poincaré group into the 4D conformal group $SO(2,4)$. With …
