Let $(X, J)$ be a complex manifold with a non-degenerated smooth $d$-closed $(1,1)$-form $ω$. Then we have a natural double complex $\overline{\partial}+\overline{\partial}^Λ$, where $\overline{\partial}^Λ$ denotes the symplectic adjoint of the $\overline{\partial}$-operator. We study the Hard Lefschetz Condition on the Dolbeault cohomology groups of $X$ with respect to the symplectic form $ω$. In \cite{TW}, we proved that such a condition is equivalent to a certain symplectic analogous of the $\partial\overline{\partial}$-Lemma, namely the $\overline{\partial}\, \overline{\partial}^Λ$-Lemma, which can be characterized in terms of Bott--Chern and Aeppli cohomologies associated to the above double complex. We obtain Nomizu type theorems for the Bott--Chern and Aeppli cohomologies and we show that the $\overline{\partial}\, \overline{\partial}^Λ$-Lemma is stable under small deformations of $ω$, but not stable under small deformations of the complex structure. However, if we further assume that $X$ satisfies the $\partial\overline{\partial}$-Lemma then the $\overline{\partial}\, \overline{\partial}^Λ$-Lemma is stable.
We present a construction (and classification) of certain invariant 2-forms on the real symplectic group. They are used to define a symplectic form on the quotient by a maximal torus and to "lift" a symplectic structure from a symplectic manifold to the bundle of frames. This is a by-product of a failed attempt to prove certain finiteness theorems for basic symplectic cohomologies. In the last part of the paper we include a valid proof.
We study the Morse-Novikov cohomology and its almost-symplectic counterpart on manifolds admitting locally conformally symplectic structures. More precisely, we introduce lcs cohomologies and we study elliptic Hodge theory, dualities, Hard Lefschetz Condition. We consider solvmanifolds and Oeljeklaus-Toma manifolds. In particular, we prove that Oeljeklaus-Toma manifolds with precisely one complex place, and under an additional arithmetic condition, satisfy the Mostow property. This holds in particular for the Inoue surface of type $S^0$.
We study generalized complex cohomologies of generalized complex structures constructed from certain symplectic fibre bundles over complex manifolds. We apply our results in the case of left-invariant generalized complex structures on nilmanifolds and to their space of small deformations.
We prove that, for some classes of complex nilmanifolds, the Bott-Chern cohomology is completely determined by the Lie algebra associated to the nilmanifold with the induced complex structure. We use these tools to compute the Bott-Chern and Aeppli cohomologies of the Iwasawa manifold and of its small deformations, completing the computations in arXiv:0709.3528v1 [math.AG] by M. Schweitzer.
We study symplectic Laplacians on compact symplectic manifolds with boundary. These Laplacians are associated with symplectic cohomologies of differential forms and can be of fourth-order. We introduce several natural boundary conditions on differential forms and use them to establish Hodge theory by proving various form decomposition and also isomorphisms between the symplectic cohomologies and the spaces of harmonic fields. These novel boundary conditions can be applied in certain cases to study relative symplectic cohomologies and Lefschetz maps between relative de Rham cohomologies. As an …
We review some cohomological aspects of complex and hypercomplex manifolds and underline the differences between both realms. Furthermore, we try to highlight the similarities between compact complex surfaces on one hand and compact hypercomplex manifolds of real dimension 8 with holonomy of the Obata connection in SL(2,H) on the other hand.
We introduce filtered cohomologies of differential forms on symplectic manifolds. They generalize and include the cohomologies discussed in Paper I and II as a subset. The filtered cohomologies are finite-dimensional and can be associated with differential elliptic complexes. Algebraically, we show that the filtered cohomologies give a two-sided resolution of Lefschetz maps, and thereby, they are directly related to the kernels and cokernels of the Lefschetz maps. We also introduce a novel, non-associative product operation on differential forms for symplectic manifolds. This product generates…
We introduce new boundary conditions for differential forms on symplectic manifolds with boundary. These boundary conditions, dependent on the symplectic structure, allows us to write down elliptic boundary value problems for both second-order and fourth-order symplectic Laplacians and establish Hodge theories for the cohomologies of primitive forms on manifolds with boundary. We further use these boundary conditions to define a relative version of the primitive cohomologies and to relate primitive cohomologies with Lefschetz maps on manifolds with boundary. As we show, these cohomologies of p…
We show that the exterior derivative operator on a symplectic manifold has a natural decomposition into two linear differential operators, analogous to the Dolbeault operators in complex geometry. These operators map primitive forms into primitive forms and therefore lead directly to the construction of primitive cohomologies on symplectic manifolds. Using these operators, we introduce new primitive cohomologies that are analogous to the Dolbeault cohomology in the complex theory. Interestingly, the finiteness of these primitive cohomologies follows directly from an elliptic complex. We calcul…
A sharp vanishing theorem for the $L^p$ cohomology torsion of Riemannian manifolds with pinched negative curvature is given. It follows that certain negatively curved homogeneous spaces cannot be quasiisometric to better pinched manifolds.
In this paper we define coeffective de Rham cohomology for basic forms on a $K$--contact or Sasakian manifold $M$ and we discuss its relation with usually basic cohomology of $M$. When $M$ is of finite type (for instance it is compact) several inequalities relating some basic coeffective numbers to classical basic Betti numbers of $M$ are obtained. In the case of Sasakian manifolds, we define and study coeffective Dolbeault and Bott-Chern cohomologies for basic forms. Also, in this case, we prove some Hodge decomposition theorems for coeffective basic de Rham cohomology, relating this cohomolo…
In this paper we relate the cohomology of $J$-invariant forms to the Dolbeault cohomology of an almost complex manifold. We find necessary and sufficient condition for the inclusion of the former into the latter to be true up to isomorphism. We also extend some results obtained by J. Cirici and S.O. Wilson about the computation of the left-invariant cohomology of nilmanifolds to the setting of solvmanifolds. Several examples are given.
We show that the complex cohomologies of Bott, Chern, and Aeppli and the symplectic cohomologies of Tseng and Yau arise in the context of type II string theory. Specifically, they can be used to count a subset of scalar moduli fields in Minkowski compactification with RR fluxes in the presence of either O5/D5 or O6/D6 brane sources, respectively. Further, we introduce a new set of cohomologies within the generalized complex geometry framework which interpolate between these known complex and symplectic cohomologies. The generalized complex cohomologies play the analogous role for counting mass…
A hypercomplex structure $(I,J,K)$ on a manifold $M$ is said to be $C^\infty$-pure-and-full if the Dolbeault cohomology $H^{2,0}_{\partial}(M,I)$ is the direct sum of two natural subgroups called the $\bar{J}$-invariant and the $\bar{J}$-anti-invariant subgroups. We prove that a compact hypercomplex manifold that satisfies the quaternionic version of the $dd^c$-Lemma is $C^\infty$-pure-and-full. Moreover, we study the dimensions of the $\bar{J}$-invariant and the $\bar{J}$-anti-invariant subgroups, together with their analogue in the Bott-Chern cohomology. For instance, in real dimension 8, we…
We give a topological interpretation of the space of $L^2$ harmonis forms of some QALE manifolds introduced by D. Joyce. We introduce a analytical criterium which make possible the used of Mayer-Vietoris sequence.
We consider several differential operators on compact almost-complex, almost-Hermitian and almost-Kähler manifolds. We discuss Hodge Theory for these operators and a possible cohomological interpretation. We compare the associated spaces of harmonic forms and cohomologies with the classical de Rham, Dolbeault, Bott-Chern and Aeppli cohomologies.
We analyze four-dimensional symplectic manifolds of type $X=S^1 \times M^3$ where $M^3$ is an open $3$-manifold admitting inequivalent fibrations leading to inequivalent symplectic structures on $X$. For the case where $M^3 \subset S^3$ is the complement of a $4$-component link constructed by McMullen-Taubes, we provide a general algorithm for computing the monodromy of the fibrations explicitly. We use this algorithm to show that certain inequivalent symplectic structures are distinguished by the dimensions of the primitive cohomologies of differential forms on $X$. We also calculate the prim…
For a symplectic manifold $(M,ω)$, not necessarily hard Lefschetz, we prove a version of the Merkulov $dδ$--lemma. We also study the $dδ$--lemma and related cohomologies for compact symplectic solvmanifolds.
We try to generalize the Poisson cohomology of a 2-dimensional Poisson manifold to the n-vectors on a n-dimensional manifold. We define several cohomologies and we compute locally some of them, in the case of germs at 0 of n-vectors on a real or complex vector field of dimension n.
We study cohomologies on an almost complex manifold $(M, J)$, defined using the Nijenhuis-Lie derivations $\mathcal{L}_J$ and $\mathcal{L}_N$ induced from the almost complex structure $J$ and its Nijenhuis tensor $N$, regarded as vector-valued forms on $M$. We show how one of these, the $N$-cohomology $H^{\bullet}_N (M)$, can be used to distinguish non-isomorphic non-integrable almost complex structures on $M$. Another one, the $J$-cohomology $H^{\bullet}_J (M)$, is familiar in the integrable case but we extend its definition and applicability to the case of non-integrable almost complex struc…
We show certain symmetry of the dimensions of cohomologies of the funda- mental groups of compact Sasakian manifolds by using the Hodge theory of twisted basic cohomology. As applications, we show that the polycyclic fundamental groups of compact Sasakian manifolds are virtually nilpotent and Sasakian solvmanifolds are finite quotients of Heisenberg nilmanifolds.
In this article, we summarize our recent results on the study of manifolds with special holonomy via the Frölicher-Nijenhuis bracket. This bracket enables us to define the Frölicher-Nijenhuis cohomologies which are analogues of the $d^c$ and the Dolbeault cohomologies in Kähler geometry, and assigns an $L_\infty$-algebra to each associative submanifold. We provide several concrete computations of the Frölicher-Nijenhuis cohomology.
In order to understand the structure of the cohomologies involved in the study of projectively equivariant quantizations, we introduce a notion of affine representation of a Lie algebra. We show how it is related to linear representations and 1-cohomology classes of the algebra. We classify the affine representations of the Lie algebra of vector fields of a smooth manifold associated to its action on symmetric tensor fields of type (1,2). Among them, we recover the space of symmetric affine linear connections and that of projective structures of the manifold. We compute some of the associated c…
We prove a blow-up formula for Dolbeault cohomologies of compact complex manifolds by introducing relative Dolbeault cohomology. As corollaries, we present a uniform proof for bimeromorphic invariance of $(\bullet,0)$- and $(0,\bullet)$-Hodge numbers on a compact complex manifold, and obtain the equality for the numbers of the blow-ups and blow-downs in the weak factorization of the bimeromorphic map between two compact complex manifolds with equal $(1,1)$-Hodge number or equivalently second Betti number. Many examples of the latter one are listed. Inspired by these, we obtain the bimeromorphi…
The goal of the memoir is to develop a new cohomology theory which encompasses De Rham and Dolbeault cohomology as well as Deligne Beilinson cohomology, in the context of general complex analytic manifolds. The special case of the Iwasawa manifold is investigated as a typical example of what occurs in the non Kähler case. Elementary applications to the Kodaira-Spencer deformation theory and to the calculation of Chern classes are given.
For every positive integer $r$, we introduce two new cohomologies, that we call $E_r$-Bott-Chern and $E_r$-Aeppli, on compact complex manifolds. When $r=1$, they coincide with the usual Bott-Chern and Aeppli cohomologies, but they are coarser, respectively finer, than these when $r\geq 2$. They provide analogues in the Bott-Chern-Aeppli context of the $E_r$-cohomologies featuring in the Frölicher spectral sequence of the manifold. We apply these new cohomologies in several ways to characterise the notion of page-$(r-1)$-$\partial\bar\partial$-manifolds that we introduced very recently. We also…
We obtain families of non-isotopic closed exact Lagrangian submanifolds in quasi-projective holomorphic symplectic manifolds that admit contracting $\mathbb{C}^*$-actions. We show that the Floer cohomologies of these Lagrangians are topological in nature, recovering the ordinary cohomologies of their intersection. Moreover, by using these Lagrangians and a version of Carrell-Goresky's integral decomposition theorem, we obtain degree-wise lower bounds on the symplectic cohomology of these spaces.
We use a sheaf-theoretic approach to obtain a blow-up formula for Dolbeault cohomology groups with values in the holomorphic vector bundle over a compact complex manifold. As applications, we present several positive (or negative) examples associated to the vanishing theorems of Girbau, Kawamata-Viehweg and Green-Lazarsfeld in a uniform manner and study the blow-up invariance of some classical holomorphic invariants.
We give the parallelism between locally conformal symplectic manifolds and contact manifolds. We also give the generalization of exact contact manifolds.
Let $X$ be a projective manifold, and $D$ be a normal crossing divisor of $X$. By Jost-Zuo's theorem that if we have a reductive representation $ρ$ of the fundamental group $π_{1}(X^{*})$ with unipotent local monodromy, where $X^*=X-D$, then there exists a tame pluriharmonic metric $h$ on the flat bundle $\mathcal V$ associated to the local system $\mathbb V$ obtain from $ρ$ over $X^*$. Therefore, we get a harmonic bundle $(E, θ, h)$, where $θ$ is the Higgs field, i.e. a holomorphic section of $End(E)\otimesΩ^{1,0}_{X^*}$ satisfying $θ^2=0$. In this paper, we study the harmonic bundle $(E,θ,h)…
We derive constraints on Lagrangian embeddings in completions of certain stable symplectic fillings with semisimple symplectic cohomologies. Manifolds with these properties can be constructed by generalizing the boundary connected sum operation to our setting, and are related to certain birational surgeries like blow-downs and flips. As a consequence, there are many non-toric (non-compact) monotone symplectic manifolds whose wrapped Fukaya categories are proper.
We consider closed symplectically aspherical manifolds, i.e. closed symplectic manifolds $(M,ω)$ satisfying the condition $[ω]|_{π_2M}=0$. Rudyak and Oprea [RO] remarked that such manifolds have nice and controllable homotopy properties. Now it is clear that these properties are mostly determined by the fact that the strict category weight of $[ω]$ equals 2. We apply the theory of strict category weight to the problem of estimating the number of closed orbits of charged particles in symplectic magnetic fields. In case of symplectically aspherical manifolds our theory enables us to improve some…
We show that a if a Riemannian manifold admits a universal cover with bounded geometry and if 0 does not belong to the spectrum or is an isolated point in the spectrum of the Laplacian on $\ell$-forms, then there exists $1<p<2$ such that for all $p<r<p^{\prime}$ the Hodge - de Rham decomposition for $L^{r}$-forms holds ($p^{\prime}$ denotes the conjugate of $p$).
We introduce new finite-dimensional cohomologies on symplectic manifolds. Each exhibits Lefschetz decomposition and contains a unique harmonic representative within each class. Associated with each cohomology is a primitive cohomology defined purely on the space of primitive forms. We identify the dual currents of lagrangians and more generally coisotropic submanifolds with elements of a primitive cohomology, which dualizes to a homology on coisotropic chains.
Let ${\cal F}$ be a complex affine Reeb foliation of dimension $1$ on the Hopf manifold ${\Bbb S}^{n+1}\times {\Bbb S}^1$. We prove that its foliated Dolbeault cohomology in degree $1$ is isomorphic to ${\Bbb C}$ by giving an explicit generator.
For a complete symplectic manifold $M^{2n}$, we define the $L^{2}$-hard Lefschetz property on $M^{2n}$. We also prove that the complete symplectic manifold $M^{2n}$ satisfies $L^{2}$-hard Lefschetz property if and only if every class of $L^{2}$-harmonic forms contains a $L^{2}$ symplectic harmonic form. As an application, we get if $M^{2n}$ is a closed symplectic parabolic manifold which satisfies the hard Lefschetz property, then its Euler characteristic satisfies the inequality $(-1)^{n}χ(M^{2n})\geq0$.
We introduce notions such as cdp presheaf, cds precosheaf, Mayer-Vietoris system, and investigate their properties. As applications, we study cohomologies with values in local systems on smooth manifolds and Dolbeault cohomologies with values in locally free sheaves on complex manifolds, where the compactness is not necessary for both cases. In particular, we write out explicit blow-up formulas for these cohomologies. Moreover, we compare the blow-up formula given by Rao, S., Yang, S. and Yang, X.-D. with ours, and then deduce that their formula is still an isomorphism in the noncompact case.
The weight $θ$-sheaf $\underline{\mathbb{R}}_{X,θ}$ helps us to reinterpret Morse-Novikov cohomologies via sheaf theory. We give several theorems of Künneth and Leray-Hirsch types. As applications, we prove that the $θ$-Lefschetz number is independent of $θ$ and calculate the Morse-Novikov cohomologies of projective bundles. Based on these results, we give two blow-up formulae on (\emph{not necessarily compact}) complex manifolds, where the self-intersection formulae play a key role in establishing the explicit expressions for them.
A theory of dg schemes is developed so that it becomes a homotopy site, and the corresponding infinity category of stacks is equivalent to the infinity category of stacks, as constructed by Toen and Vezzosi, on the site of dg algebras whose cohomologies have finitely many generators in each degree. Stacks represented by dg schemes are shown to be derived schemes under this correspondence.
We describe the deformation cohomology of a symplectic groupoid, and use it to study deformations via Moser path methods, proving a symplectic groupoid version of the Moser Theorem. Our construction uses the deformation cohomologies of Lie groupoids and of multiplicative forms, and we prove that in the symplectic case, deformation cohomology of both the underlying groupoid and of the symplectic groupoid have de Rham models in terms of differential forms. We use the de Rham model, which is intimately connected to the Bott-Shulman-Stasheff double complex, to compute deformation cohomology in sev…
We present some methods to construct smooth circle actions on symplectic manifolds with non-symplectic fixed point sets or non-symplectic cyclic isotropy point sets. All such actions are not compatible with any symplectic form.
In studying the Bott-Chern and Aeppli cohomologies for q-complete manifolds, we introduce the class of cohomologically Bott-Chern q-complete manifolds.
We establish various stability results for symplectic surfaces in symplectic $4-$manifolds with $b^+=1$. These results are then applied to prove the existence of representatives of Lagrangian ADE-configurations as well as to classify negative symplectic spheres in symplectic $4-$manifolds with $κ=-\infty$. This involves the explicit construction of spheres in rational manifolds via a new construction technique called the tilted transport.
The harmonic cohomology of a Donaldson symplectic submanifold and of an Auroux symplectic submanifold are compared with that of its ambient space. We also study symplectic manifolds satisfying a weakly Lefschetz property, that is, the $s$-Lefschetz propery. In particular, we consider the symplectic blow-ups of the complex projective space along weakly Lefschetz symplectic submanifolds. As an application we construct, for each even integer $s\geq 2$, compact symplectic manifolds which are $s$-Lefschetz but not $(s+1)$-Lefschetz.
We introduce scattering-symplectic manifolds, manifolds with a type of minimally degenerate Poisson structure that is not too restrictive so as to have a large class of examples, yet restrictive enough for standard Poisson invariants to be computable. This paper will demonstrate the potential of the scattering symplectic setting. In particular, we construct scattering-symplectic spheres and scattering symplectic gluings between strong convex symplectic fillings of a contact manifold. By giving an explicit computation of the Poisson cohomology of a scattering symplectic manifold, we also introd…
We compute the Yamabe invariant for a class of symplectic 4-manifolds of general type obtained by taking the rational blowdown of Kahler surfaces. In particular, for any point on the half-Noether line we exhibit a simply connected minimal symplectic manifold for which we compute the Yamabe invariant.
Log-symplectic structures are Poisson structures that are determined by a symplectic form with logarithmic singularities. We construct moduli spaces of curves with values in a log-symplectic manifold. Among the applications, we classify symplectically ruled log-symplectic $4$ manifolds (both orientable and non-orientable), and obstruct the existence of contact boundary components, in analogy with well-known theorems by McDuff. Moreover, we study certain log-symplectically ruled surfaces, using tools from symplectic field theory.
